Why is this sudden concern for BBS leader?

Ravi Karunanayaka, Mano Ganeshan and Asad Sally, three non-Buddhists, went to see Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero in the prison hospital, and the dialogue ensued as reported by websites was as follows:

Monk:

I was sent to jail for 19 years on false charges. If you see the Video tape recording of what happened between me and the magistrate on that unfortunate day you can see how I was framed.

RaviK:

Please give leadership to save the country from breaking in to pieces and save Buddhism for eternity, when you come out of the prison.

Why did these three politicians go to see the monk? What is the open and hidden purpose? Why were they silent when there was high expectation that the monk would be released from prison along with the other prisoners released on February 4th? Did they try to prevent PM Ranil’s wife signing a petition against releasing the monk, which had false information?

This drama reminds one of the previous one by the American ambassador visiting the Nagaviharaya, Kotte, with atapirikara to the late Ven. Maduluwave Sobhita. Can it be a very faint, remote plan to get the monk excited for a bribe for freedom. This is not going to work, because the messengers are not honest. If they were honest, at least after the visit, they should have run to the minister of justice and watch the video tape together and request an explanation from the AG Dept why they framed the monk despite the overwhelming evidence against it.

The monk is not only in prison, but two SC judges put another prison around him. When the prisoner- monk petitioned the SC, seeking permission to appeal against his conviction by the Court of Appeal (CA), the three-judge bench denied the monk his right for natural justice.  Of the two judges who decided to deny the petition without considering its merits, one was an active anti-BBS officer of the SL Bar Association. SLBA hated BBS for some unknown reason, perhaps because BBS wants to remove the suddage neethiya, under which lawyers are thriving.

The video tape proves that the CA decision was factually wrong. There was simply no ground to decide that the monk had an intention to insult the court.

  1. CA says the monk did not apologize to the magistrate. The Video shows that he apologized not once but twice, without any conditions;
  2. CA says the monk called the govt. lawyer a Video shows this was no so.

Video clip clearly shows that the monk and the magistrate had a dialogue or exchange of views. CA thought that the monk threated the judge.  What actually took place was, when the discussion was over and the monk left the court house and  the judge began to take up his next case on the roster, the govt. lawyer who was outside the court house came to know about the incident and went back to insist the judge to take action against the monk.  The judge’s discretion of what he wants to do was taken away from him by the govt lawyer and the JVP lawyer who was appearing for Eknaligoda’s wife. They put the judge in an embarrassing situation in an open court.

This is a case Mrs. Chandrika wanting to put Bodu Bala Sena in balu kuudu. If the monk is not released soon, if a larger bench of SC is not going to re-hear this case, the monk has only one option, to go before the people’s court. At the next election, he should contest while in prison. At the next presidential election, he should contest from the jail, so that voters get an opportunity to register their disapproval of this corrupt system of green, blue, SLPP and red politics.

A hand bill explaining the injustice done to him must be distributed all over the country to educate people on the facts of the case. After all, all other communities also expressed their dissent against this unfair jail term. They now know that BBS was not what dishonest politicians tried to brand it. Most of what BBS has pointed out are now burning issues in the country. Look at this: half of MPs do not have even GCE (OL) level; half of them, including the SL Bar Association, took bribe-money from Arjun Aloysius; and now half of them took money from Madush! May be wish Madush killed by the Dubai govt. so the secrets will go with him.

I think it is time for Udaya Gammanpila to join with BBS informally, because BBS is not against any non-Buddhist community. He should submit the video tape which disproves CA ruling to the parliament for record.

In a corrupt system of governance, nobody will hand over justice on a platter, you have to fight for it.

    I agree with Chandrasiri.

    Not just Gammanpila even Weerawansa must join BBS and other patriotic forces to contest the 2019 presidential election on a nationalist agenda as a unified front. They should also contest the 2020 parliamentary election. They can win at least 15 seats.

    They are treated like dirt within the UPFA and SLPP.

  2. Randeniyage Says:

    @Dilrook,
    Sorry, my view is these to are opportunists, if not crooks.

  3. Christie Says:

    Putting Nanasara in prison for 19 years for the alleged crime is unbelievable.

    He has not done anything untoward the law or its administration. Just telling a judge to f#ck or landing a punch on a judge is not changing the cause of justice.

  4. Ratanapala Says:

    Agree with Christie fully. Rev Gnanasara has not committed such heinous crime that justifies a 19-year jail sentence. This is a clear attempt to silence the voice of Buddhists in Sri Lanka and nothing else. I cannot for any reason believe that the court system in Sri Lanka is such a holy place for all in Sri Lanka know how justice is meted out to different people in different stations in life and position. It has been voiced that it too is as corrupt as the rest of the corrupt political system that we have in Sri Lanka.

    Arjun Aloysius who was part and parcel of the biggest daylight robbery is a free bird and there is no concrete attempt to apprehend his father-in-law now absconding from justice perhaps UNP and Pohottuwa colluding on this matter. Nor is there a will on the part of politicians in power and in the opposition to bring about justice to these scoundrels headed by the very Prime Minister – Ranil Wickramasinghe who was handled with kid gloves during interrogation into Bond Scam investigation by the Attorney General himself.

    Rev Gnanasara is only a scapegoat of the system and Aappaya did not have the courage to release him on 4 Feb!

    That is true Randeniyage. They are highly opportunistic. But they are the norm, not the exception.

    Do these worthies consider themselves even above Lord Buddha in Sri Lanka. Those who desecrate Buddhist places of worship and deface Buddha statues and still get away with next to nothing in terms of punishment. Buddhist priest has an argument with a magistrate and he is condemned for 19 years in prison.

    What sort of people are we? The dumb and people of Sri Lanka who are majority Buddhists nor the priestly hierarchy have no pride in themselves to understand how they are vilified by this Jadapalana administration and their hirelings in the judiciary.

    It is only when they don’t get their promotions that they realise how they are handled simply because they are Buddhists. This is Catholic Action hard at work. It is time the nation understood that they are the hidden hand that manipulate anything to do with power – political or otherwise in Sri Lanka. Palu Gedera walang bindinne mun thamai!

    Now to add insult to injury now we have the likes of Ravi Karunanayagam, Asad Saaly and Mano Ganeshan visiting Rev Gnanasara in prison and asking him to about give leadership to save the country from breaking in to pieces and save Buddhism for eternity, when you come out of the prison. These are the very persons who are for all purposes and intents are going hell for leather to destabilise Sri Lanka and make it a failed state.
