දුෂණය නැති තැනක් ලංකාවේ කිසිම තැනක නොමැති බවත්, මෙරට පොඩිම පුද්ගලයාගේ සිට ලොකුම පුද්ගලයා දක්වා සියලුම දෙනා නීතිරීති උල්ලංඝණය කිරීමට පුරුදු වී තිබෙන බවත් අගරදගුරු අතිඋතුම් මැල්කම් කාදිනල් රංජිත් හිමිපාණෝ අද (09) අක්මීමණදී පැවසූහ.
අක්මීමන තල්ගස්යාය ශ්‍රි අශ්වත්ථාරාම විහාරස්ථ සිරිපවරකිත්ති දහම්පාසලේ 45 වැනි සංවත්සරය හා ත්‍යාග හා සහතිකපත් ප්‍රදානය කිරිමේ උත්සවයට එක්වෙමින් හිමිපාණෝ මේ බව පැවසූහ.
‘‘නිදහසින් පසු ලංකාවේ පොළව ලේ වලින් පිරිච්ච පොළවක් බවට හැරිලා තියෙනවා. මෙකට හේතුව තමයි දේශපාලන ලෝකය තුළ විනය නැතිවිමේ ප්‍රශ්නය. දේශපාලනය කරන අය මේකට වගකියන්න ඕනෑ. අපේ දහම්පාසල් දරුවන්ට විනය ගැන කථා කරලා වැඩක් නැහැ. පාසල් දරුවන්ට විනය ගැන කතාකරලා වැඩක් නැහැ.
අපේ වැඩිමල් අය අතරත් විනය තියෙන්නට ඕනෑ. මේ ලංකාවේ විනයක් නැහැ. පොඩිම කෙනාගේ සිට ලොකුම කෙනා දක්වා සියලුම නීතිරීති උල්ලංඝනය කරන්න පුරුදු වෙලා තියෙනවා. විශේෂයෙන්ම දුෂණය නැති තැනක් ලංකාවේ කොහෙවත් නැහැ. කොහේ හරිතැනක වැඩක් කරන්න ගියවිට හැමතිස්සේම කතාකරන වචනයක් තියෙනවා. පාරක් හදන්න යනවා කියමුකෝ…! එයට ටෙන්ටර් කැඳවන්න ඕක මොකක්ද දන්නවාද? ඒ ප්‍රසිද්ධ වචනය කොමිස්… කොමිස් ගැහිල්ල කියලා තමයි කියන්නේ… ‘‘ යැයි හිමිපාණෝ වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් කළහ.

Was there a single Sinhala-Buddhist Deshapremi leader ? No. If we had simply one man for one year this problem wouldn’t have arisen.
5,000 homes sans toilets in Welikanda

Some 5,000 people, living in 25 villages surrounding the Welikanda-Polonnaruwa Divisional Secretariat region, are without toilet facilities and are forced to use the open exposing them to the threats of serpents and even wild elephants, a top regional official conceded yesterday.
“This problem has been there for many years and most of the families live in wattle and daub abodes bordering thick forests that are infested with wild elephants, serpents and other animal species,” Welikanda-Polonnaruwa Additional Government Agent (AGA) M.M. Hairu Nisha said.
“These people could be located in the villages of Welikanda, Pollonnaruwa, Singhapura, Nagastenna, Mahaweli Thenna, Aselapura, Mahindagama, Nawa Menikdeniya, Mahasenpura, Kurulu Bedda, Maithrigama, and Kalingagama.
“While some of the people use tents made out of polythene and tin sheets, as makeshift toilets that are without roofs, others use umbrellas on rainy days while using the toilets,” she added.
She also said that the lack of toilets for some 5,000 people is a fact and they are currently working on some projects to provide water for their sanitary needs but there are several hurdles towards this end.
“It would be highly appreciated if would receive donations from members of the public, private organisations and philanthropists in a bid to construct moderate toilet facilities.
“Another issue is that a large number of people are not permanent residents of the area, they are known to have moved into the area from other places for whatever reason and now we are looking into that matter as well.
“Apart from the toilet issue, the villagers also lack other primary needs such as safe drinking water, roads, and better housing facilities among others,” Nisha added.
She further said that this toilet problem was mostly experienced in the Sinhala and Tamil homes and it was not an issue with the Muslim houses.
“The simple reason for this that wealthy Mulsims and related organisations have come out to help their community faced with this problem, but it is not the same with the other ethnic communities,” she lamented.
She added that she put a stop to foreign donors intending to help the Muslim community in the region such as building toilets and other complexes since it violates the law of the land.
“Any fresh constructions, let it be a toilet, drain or even a culvert, must receive prior approval from the local authorities and these donors had avoided that procedure.
Therefore, it cannot be allowed and it is up to the relevant authorities to address the matter at the very earliest,” Nisha further said.

Randeniyage is spot on. We Sri Lankans boasted about our sanitation facilities and ridiculed India. But now we lag behind India thanks to our politicians who built ports without ships, airports without planes, stadiums without matches, power stations without power, highways without drainage, irrigation schemes without water, reconciliation without peace, etc. That too with massive foreign loans.
Indians can now make fun of more Sri Lankans (15%) (as a percentage) defecating in the open than Indians (4%).

This is up from 38.7% in October 2014.”

Sri Lanka is cursed with politicians who are thinking the western way. Big things, loans, loans, loans and local people’s basic needs are not visible as these problems are not there in the west.
