Sri Lankan doctors have become very patriotic all of a sudden

The TV news item today was about Sri Lankan specialist doctors undergoing training in the UK desperately want to return home. It is quite strange that they all want to come back when only a small percentage of the doctors return after going abroad.

Some specialists trained in a lucrative specialty return to join the private sector while hardly discharging their duties in the state hospitals where they are assigned to.

It is obvious why these doctors want to return al of a sudden

Surely because  they are not safe in England and do not trust NHS in the UK

One consultant has already died

I wonder what GMOA is going to say about this.

What is the use of Dr’s who mix up politics and personal prejudice against those Sri Lankan specialist doctors who are faced with a life threatening situation in UK while their loved ones are back home stranded in a similarly precarious, though probably somewhat safer, situation? Aren’t these doctors (How many out one thousand people have the necessary intelligence and personality to become a physician, let alone a specialist among physicians?) any less human than the other normal people are? Don’t they love their families? their children? Aren’t their kind (doctors and paramedics) doing enough for the millions of ordinary Sri Lankans in this dreadful situation? for this handful to deserve our compassionate attention? The Sri Lankan president and government will do the needful to bring them down as quickly as humanly possible. The PM gave a special assurance a couple of days ago that the government will not forget a single Sri Lankan marooned abroad due to the global pandemic.

There are a few mercenary minded individuals among doctors, as there are in any profession, but they are outnumbered thousands of times by medical demigods in Sri Lanka.

I am an ordinary Sri Lankan, not connected with the GMOA. The GMOA, as a trade union, is also unique. Their conduct shows that to them their noble medical profession is more important than their trade unionism. While they represent the vast majority of government doctors, their patriotism is not fake.

They want to run away from death………..they went for gold, but now harvesting viruses.

GMOA is good but there are some in it working for publicity upsetting excellent work done by Doctors and othe Workers of the Medical Service to fight against Covid-19. Some of them forcing their pet discovery of fast checking of persons for Corona, should speak witht the Doctors engaged in anti Corana work Led by DrJasinha, instead of coming to the TV to show their faces. GMOA should suspend the membership of these stupids Doctors ckming to TV to discourage the activitie of our patriotic medical heroes.

    Vaisrawana,

This is what the GOSL should not do. Medicine is a noble profession. These people are experience doctors and have taken an oath to serve the humanity. Our medics have advantage over those from the others as can be seen from how they fared in Sri Lankan situation. So far one have died.

I therefore believe that these trainees should remain there and help as many as possible so long as the authorities provide the necessary protective gear etc. Those patients also have families and need help. Do not show to the world that we are a set of cowards. I too have relatives in this profession there. They are not thinking of running away. Anyway this is what I mentioned to them also.

Sorry, correction: So far no medic has died in SL.

The Covid-19 will pass, but the virus of Aversion/Hate (dosa/dwesha) of the triad raga, dosa, moha will linger forever in the human mind.
