Only four COVID-19 clusters active out of 31: DIG Ajith Rohana

Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said that out of 31 main Covid-19 clusters identified across the island, only four clusters still remain active.He said that according to the government intelligence service information, the total number of Covid-19 patients has been reported from 31 clusters, since the first Covid-19 infection was reported in Sri Lanka.

“Of those 31 clusters, only 4 clusters are currently operational. Out of those 4 clusters, three clusters are on the verge of becoming inactive. Therefore, people’s corporation is essential to control this situation,” he said.While addressing the media briefing at the National Operation Centre of Prevention of Covid-19 outbreak, he said that out of 649 cases which were reported, 14 cases were of drug addicts.

DIG Rohana said that the cluster from Suduwella in Ja-Ela was a special one and that drug addicts were main reason for the spread of virus in that cluster.”The number of clusters should be minimized and the people should assist to control this situation,” he said.

He also said that so far the Police had arrested 42,365 individuals and 11,000 vehicles for curfew violations and within the last 24 hours about 500 people have been arrested for curfew violations across the country.”In the past six hours, 264 persons have been arrested in the Western Province and Puttalam District,” DIG said.
