The Agriculture Ministry and the Health Ministry have decided to set up a special task force to study and submit a report on the effects of chemical pesticides and fertilizers on humans.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella and Mahindananda Aluthgamage at the Health Ministry.

During the meeting, it was noted that the said task force should consist of an independent team of experts representing multiple sectors and that a comprehensive study should be conducted on the matter.

Accordingly, the Director-General of Health Services has been instructed to start taking necessary measures in this regard by next week.

What a bunch of fools trying to teach the whole world that synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides are bad for humanity.

A move in the right direction, but with the wrong head. And there should not be too many cooks.

The bio-fertilizer (‘gu and malu pohora’) but with local inputs should be the way to go. I am sure our A’ level boys who have studied chemistry (organic) and biology should be engaged in the field to supervise the usage. Anyone who has done sewage treatment can understand why the fertilizer cans explode and how the chemical process also can be used to manufacture it using amines.

Perhaps the whole program is a move in the right direction, but some greedy fellows taking the opportunity to make a fast buck as usual. Remove them (including the troll that makes it possible) by applying some ‘dummala’!.
