I totally agree with the writer.

Gota will not tolerate corrupt politicians and pet them similar to Mahinda. Gota is not a politician like Mahinda and he is a straight forward person.

But the truth of the matter is, MR will not allow GOTA to do it his own way. It is already evident.

The Viyath Maga which Gota was conducting with a view to compile policies for the country to move forward in all aspects in line with the Global changes which taking place in Asia. He had a great view and was open minded so that the ideas given by intellectuals and entrepreneurs were taken seriously as a collection of ideas to implement a wider policy.

But what happened at the end after MR attending the Viyathmaga anniversary? He declared that is an extension of “Mahinda Chintanaya”. MR did not want to give the due credit to GR for coming with new ideas. He also made GR declare that it was an extension of the Mahinda Chinthanaya,.

It looks like that he is trying to come back selfishly and jeopardise that good vision and take away a great opportunity for Mother Lanka to get a straight forward leader like GR in the driving seat.

The biggest loss for Mother Lanka with this move, in my view is, 13A will stay if MR comes back. Only hope we had that it will be abrogated if GR comes to power will get destroyed at the same time. The biggest burden politically and financially imposed by force on us by India is going to be staying for ever.. There will never be a person like GR who can do it in the close vicinity. If 13A stays for another 10 years, separation of this Island can not be avoided.

I feel sad for GR and wider public who were waiting for him to come to power and deliver a great future for all our citizens.

I agree with Lionel and Hiranthe.

Post-war Mahinda was a complete disaster. Having won 66% of seats in April 2010 (with allies), his popularity collapsed to 47% in January 2015 – in less than 5 years. No one has suffered so much drop in popularity in such a short time. Gotabaya is the only worthwhile Rajapaksa today. If Gotabaya is not contesting, it is better to field someone outside the clan.

Mahinda cannot win a presidential election again. Although he is popular, he is not sufficiently popular to get 50%. While there is no change in minority votes any Rajapaksa could get, the percentage of Sinhala votes is higher for Gotabaya.

However, blindly supporting Gotabaya is another disaster. He must promise to abrogate 13A. If he fails to promise, a rival candidate must take it up and defeat him by splitting votes. UNP cannot divide the country (though it wants to) because if divided, UNP can never win a presidential election again. JHU was getting ready to field General Janaka Perera in 2005 if Mahinda refused to agree to the nationalist agenda of the JHU and the JVP led by Weerawansa. Mahinda knew his numbers and agreed.

  3. Ananda-USA Says:

As Dilrook says, Yes, Gotabhaya MUST PROMISE to REPEAL the 13A, and to DISSOLVE ALL Sub-National Regional Governments in favor of a UNELECTED District Administration APPOINTED by the ELECTED National Government.

ONE LEVEL of ELECTED Government at the CENTER is GOVERNMENT ENOUGH for its CITIZENS! OUT with the MULTIVARIOUS PIG SPECIES FEEDING at the Government TROUGH!

NO MORE Proto-EELAMS should be allowed to raise their UGLY HEADS EVER AGAIN, and NO MULTIPLE LAYERS of Local Government bureaucracies should be setup to FEED OFF the people and HINDER their PROGRESS!

We NEED Streamlined LEAN & MEAN GOVERNMENT designed for the FUTURE!

  4. Hiranthe Says:

By the way, Nagananda is already telling that he will get rid of 13A.

The only thing is, he doesn’t look trustworthy, promising and serious about anything else for Mother Lanka except for refining the legal system, only his strong field.

I can’t see any depth in him. Only superficial as I can see with his supporting buddy Sugandika.

But I may be wrong. who knows??

  5. Christie Says:

Namaste: The 2015 Sri Lankan Presidential election: How it happened? What it means for Sri Lanka (Ceylon)? What it means for the Indian Empire (Indian Union & its colonies)?
How it happened? Another Indian job. The former President called an early election. The Indian imperialists (Indian Union) were ready to correct its mistake in 2005 when it backed Mahinda Rajapaksa over Ranil Wickramasinge. Then, Indian imperialists advised Indian block vote in the island to abstain from voting. The reason for the preference was Indian imperialists thought it will be easier to negotiate with Mahinda an unknown matter for India. When profiling Mahinda they did not take in to account his brothers, in particular Gotabaya who was in the USA at that time. Unfortunately for India, Mahinda did not follow Indian directions as former Sri Lankan leaders did since 1956. In 2010 India enrolled General Sarath Fonseka as a presidential candidate against Mahinda and failed. So behind the scene as Indian imperialist always do they were planning for years and had got former governor Chandrika Bandaranayake-Kumaranatunge to do the job and succeeded with doing a repeat of what India did with her father Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranayake in 1951. India did not have to wait for four years this time. India managed to divide the non-Indian vote and got the Indian block vote for Maithripala Sirisena the new Indian governor of Sri Lanka who may be the proxy for the real governor Chandrika.
What it means for Sri Lanka? Nothing much. It will be the same as what the island nation had from 1956 to 2005 and before from 1792 to 1948. The Indian minority will run the country with the privileges they enjoyed since their arrival under the cover of the British fire power and their own nonviolent aggression and oppression. They will claim they are the victims of Majority Sinhala Chauvinists; the same claim that they make in other colonies from Fiji to Guyana. For example; finance and justice; most important ingredients in the world and heads of these two institutions in the island now are from the victimized minority and one of them has been brought from another colony.
What it means for the Indian Empire? It means a lot to the Indian Empire. The former partner of the British-Indian Empire from Fiji to Guyana; that is all former tropical colonies of the British-Indian Empire. India lost its control over the island nation since 2005 as the new government of the island nation managed to wipe out the Indian terrorist arm; trained, armed, financed, managed and branded Tamil Tigers by India. Since the election of the new governor Indian cars and food have become cheaper with reduced tax on Indian products. Indian Imperialists have already indicated massive investments and projects in all sectors of the economy. This will not be a hard act as the island nation’s economy has been in their hands for more than two centuries and the business language in the country is an Indian language spoken by more than 75 million of them in India. The wealthiest in the island are Indian though their wealth is not stored in the island but most of it in India. Reclaiming the control over the island nation will supplement its control over the Indian Ocean and Indian Ocean countries. With its unchallenged military power; with ICBMs, Aircraft Carriers, Nuke Subs, Nuke (Peace) bombs and purchase of hundred billion dollars’ worth of military hardware the island nation provides the best step with Mauritius a third State of India to lay a drag line across the Indian Ocean.

  6. Randeniyage Says:

Shouldn’t it be our duty to spread demand of dropping 13A promise as compulsory for the next president regardless of who he is ? Unless we take this stance none of the current politicians including great MR will not hack care about doing it and working for Sinhalese.
