We thank India for not attending CHOGM – Lessons not learnt by Sri Lanka

‚ The present Government will go down in history as giving India the biggest stakes in Sri Lanka-â„¢s post-conflict despite being rewarded with consecutive humiliations by India. None of these humiliations have even remotely pushed Sri Lanka-â„¢s leaders to realize that India CANNOT be TRUSTED or made Sri Lanka-â„¢s leaders resolve to secure the country of Indian incursions. Its best response has been to give India backseat position at CHOGM. These childish antics will get the Government or the country nowhere. It has certainly been a testing process for Sri Lanka-â„¢s policy makers. But they have put the brakes every time calls are made by patriots of the country to secure Sri Lanka without exposing it to India knowing that with or without Eelam, India wishes to turn Sri Lanka into a satellite state and the buttons pressed for this ultimate goal are many and our leaders seem to be doing exactly what India wants them to do. Keeping traitors and giving them VIP positions has not helped the country or the leaders in the least -” as proof is in the CHOGM pudding. We need to bring history into the scenario for during ancient times despite sporadic invasions from India-â„¢s South, Sri Lanka-â„¢s Kings had made necessary allegiances with either of the Pallava, Chola or Pandya kings who helped ward off the enemy from Sri Lanka. Have we not learnt lessons from history at least? Never was Sri Lanka ever under Indian rule what a shame if our leaders are allowing such to take place now.

‚ Sri Lanka has suffered many a humiliation by India over the years. The list should now make Sri Lankans ask what the present leaders are going to do about new humiliations.

  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  voting against Sri Lanka in Geneva -” not once but twice
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  Indian Premier issuing statements of India-â„¢s decision on Geneva prior to vote to influence other nations to also vote against Sri Lanka
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  twice boycotting international events in Sri Lanka (SAARC Summit during President Premadasa-â„¢s tenure who outsmarted India by personally calling the SAARC neighbors and getting their assurance of attendance and holding the Summit without India and the present CHOGM 2013 which guaranteed presence of India for Sri Lanka-â„¢s assurance of holding elections in the North and signing the Sampur coal power plant). With both signed India went back on its promise and decided to not attend and even got puppet states to not attend CHOGM as well.
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  Wasting Sri Lankan taxpayers money in having to send Sri Lankan officials up and down virtually every other day to brief India of the military efforts during the final phase of the war when India did not give a single weapon to fight the war.
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  Forcing Sri Lanka to delay the final assault on the LTTE so that Congress could win elections thereby compromising the lives of Sri Lankan soldiers who died.
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  Using its global status to influence US, UK and other foreign governments against Sri Lanka so that on behalf of them India would secure all that they and India strategically desire in Sri Lanka.
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  Economically, post-conflict India has made inroads into virtually every sector in business. Indian companies have invested nearly USD2billion worth FDI for the next 5 years under what tax concessions and grants and at what cost has this been to Sri Lanka?
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  India-â„¢s Central Government has simply watched Tamil Nadu abuse Buddhist monks, pelt Sri Lanka-â„¢s Deputy Mission in Chennai, refuse to hold IPL matches if Sri Lankan players are involved and claim in no uncertain terms that the Sinhalese are not welcome in Tamil Nadu (no variance from what Chief Minister Wigneswaran now says in the North despite him living virtually all his life in Colombo amongst the Sinhalese, working and even schooling amongst the Sinhalese)
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  Tapping the Defence Secretary-â„¢s phone yet our leaders continue to grace the company event that was responsible!
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  These recent humiliations are all connected to the initial stab in the back when India started to clandestinely train, arm and finance Sri Lankan Tamil youth turning them into armed militants to strike terror in Sri Lanka under guidance of India-â„¢s intelligence agency.
  • ‚·‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚  India-â„¢s tryst with the tiger ended up in devouring its own former Premier Rajiv Gandhi which seriously should make even David Cameron, Harper and a host of others regularly gathering at pro-LTTE events somewhat cautious because Rajiv Gandhi himself trusted LTTE leader Prabakaran to even hand over his own bullet proof vest to him! Therefore, with Channel 4 linked to LTTE in more ways than UK, Canada and US are likely to admit for their safety we would caution them to keep a distance from these figures. Rajiv Gandhi never thought he would become a target of LTTE suicide attack and there are plenty of -ËœWhite Widow-â„¢s around which is why the country was aghast when the Channel 4 came so close to Sri Lanka-â„¢s President! Moreover when Dr. Subramaniam Swamy says that Congress chairperson has been smuggling Indian artifacts out of India through the LTTE we have to wonder what type of influence that connection had on Indian premier not attending CHOGM.

We can continue with the list but the gist is that the humiliations have not resulted in any reaction for the country appears to lack a policy on handling India and India-â„¢s immediate neighbors would all advise Sri Lanka that its better to draw up one before Sri Lanka ends up annexed to India.

If Sri Lanka is to protect itself from India yet continue its diplomatic relations which certainly can once the boundaries and no-go areas are properly drawn and conveyed clearly, Sri Lanka needs to

1.‚ ‚ ‚  Abrogate the Indo-Lanka Accord -” nothing India promised in the clauses have been honored by India and now 25 years on it is time to say quits to a document that is no longer functional and both signatories are dead. The Government must at lease now cease the opportunity to take a firm decision.

2.‚ ‚ ‚  Repeal the 13th amendment -” repeatedly said, this provision creating the provincial council system is simply eating up the wealth of the country and depositing in the personal accounts of its elected officials as well as leading the country towards balkanization given that the North Chief Minister is not only calling for the removal of the Governor, he wants no Sinhalese to enter the North and prefers to directly deal with India rather than the President of Sri Lanka. These will be used as basis for a separate state one that would suit the pan-Christian state that the West are trying to create aligned to Tamil Nadu and so long as Italian-Congress chairperson is in power India will do what the West wants India to do.

3.‚ ‚ ‚  Relook at all Indian investments and see how far the connection of each equates to the subjugation of the entire country in time to come. Do the calculations and see how a flooding of Indians to Sri Lanka under whatever excuse -” work, residential permits, tourists, illegals etc will ultimately lead to another illicit immigration nightmare and a demographic imbalance. Just a simple example is how Sri Lanka is planning to allow electricity to be given from India, a country that is eternally having electricity cuts, what if India decides to put Sri Lanka in darkness doing another Geneva or CHOGM on us?

4.‚ ‚ ‚  IOC, Sampur, Oil are the other stakes that Sri Lanka has given undue leverage to India. We cannot be so naƒ¯ve not to ignore that the Indo-Lanka Accord was signed merging North with East not for anything else but for India to secure the Trincomalee natural harbor and Sampur has been another ruse for India to get closer to the point that is the strategic desire of any country.

If India chose domestic politics, when we know how policy-less these celluloid politicians in Tamil Nadu are, it means India cares little for Sri Lanka or the Rajapakse Government. If this is the reality, why are we going behind India when it has shown that we are not even as important as the jokers in the southern state?

‚ Sri Lanka now needs to start looking at drawing policies that serve the interests of Sri Lanka and its citizens who want to be Sri Lankan and not those with one foot here and another elsewhere. Sri Lanka must now either completely do away with the Indo-Lanka Accord or repeal the 13th amendment. It is now no time for half-hearted solutions or thinking luck will turn upon us.

    PLUS.

    Training, arming, etc. the LTTE.

    Exporting Tamil kallathonis to SL.

    Robbing SL’s fish everyday.

    Flooding SL with DIRT.

Disrupting SL’s good relations with China.

Endia is SL’s enemy #1 right from the start. The shitty country that invaded us MOST times.

  2. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

There is an article in Asia Times “India’s Lanka policy” 11/17/13. That point to the abysmal foreign policy of India towards Sri Lanka and that President Rajapakse has hard evidence of the role that the Indian army played. It goes on to point that Sri Lanka is now becoming a nation “on the world stage”

Keeping this in mind and the article mentioned above Sri Lanka has little to worry from India and has much to gain from the CHOGM meeting to her growing relationship being “on the world stage”

Another article in the same internet magazine “India down” shows another picture of the economic catastrophe taking place in India. In my opinion if that article is right India has a lot to lose if her economy continues this downward path since 60% of her population live on a dollar and fifty cents per day and of that 37% live on 2 dollars per day. India could face mass starvation to even a destabilizing of of her social fabric.

  3. Nanda Says:

    Lorenzo,
“Endia is SL’s enemy #1 right from the start.” – Agreed only 5% human donkeys do not agree.

” The shitty country that invaded us MOST times.” – Not correct !

This shitty Endia existed only for 60 years. One shitty woman Indira started shitting us and Rajiv to Mokery Singh continues shityting.
Brit-Shits started India, there was not Endia before that. Top part of the body of the country did not generate shitys and was very friendly to us all the time, from Emperor Asoka to a lot Bharat kings. It is the shtty producing lower parts that invaded us all the time and left in a hurry shittying their vettits.

As Shenali said ” The present Government will go down in history as giving India the biggest stakes in Sri Lanka’s post-conflict despite being rewarded with consecutive humiliations by India.”

However, as I predicted, Maharanee has reclaimed his tool, we shall start calling him with the correct term now on.

  4. Nanda Says:

    Lorenzo,
We should build a big sewage treatment channel next to Setu smelly channel to purify waste from ShittyLand.
I will provide free engineering , can you supply free Lorenzo pumps which can withstand aggressive Endian shtt ?

    NO Half-Hearted Solutions! NONE!

    1. REPEAL the 13th Amendment
    2. DISMANTLE the Provincial Council System
    3. ELIMINATE Indian Involvement in Reconstruction & Rehabilitation efforts in the North & East
    4. REDUCE Indian Involvement and Investment in Sri Lanka’s economy
    5. END Military cooperation with India; they can’t and don’t help SRi Lanka with any weapons ANYWAY!
    6. SECURE Sri Lanka’s coastline with coast guard and naval bases within EYESIGHT of each other to protect Sri Lanka’s Maritime resources and PREVENT illegal immigration, gun running, and goods smuggling
    7. LAUNCH a thorough investigation of the CITIZENSHIP STATUS of the residents of Sri Lanka to IDENTIFY & DEPORT upto 1.6 ILLEGAL aliens from TAmil Nadu as indicated by the 2012 Census.
    8. ADOPT Ethnic Integration as National Policy with the goal of achieving a UNIFORM ETHNIC DISTRIBUTION nationwide, without REGIONAL ethno/religious concentrations.
    9. INCREASE the number of Armed Forces camps and Personnel in former LTTE-infected territories, PERMANENTLY SETTLE military personnel AND their FAMILIES in the North and East as part of Ethnic Integration, providing land, good hmes, schools, hospitals and other INFRASTRUCTURE to INCENTIVIZE PERMANENT SETTLEMENT by Sinhala people in these areas. In the Final Analysis, Ethnic Integration of this kind is the only permanent hope for peace and security of the people of Sri Lanka.

The END of CHOGM, and the CLEAR DISPLAY OF ENMITY by India, Tamil Nadu, and Western Nations with large Sri Lankan Eelamist Tamil Populations, has given the GOSL the PERFECT OPPORTUNITY to IMMEDIATELY IMPLEMENT the above 9-POINT PROGRAM in the National Interest.

During Cold Wars, India gets wagged Left or Right. If Sri Lanka doesn’t wag along with India, India slams Sri Lanka via Tamil Nadu.

Sri Lanka has to gradually get as Independent (Self Sufficient) as possible re Labor (Tamil labor) and Goods from India.

  8. Lorenzo Says:

    Nanda,

    Sure.

A quick search of periods of TAMIL (ENDIAN) invasions of SL gives me an addition of 200 years. Bri-shits were in SL for 152 years. Portuguese next and Dutch next.

So the enemy ranking of SL.

    1. Tamils (Endia)
    2. Brishit (It was BRISHIT ENDIA company that ruled SL so there is an ENDIAN element in this too.)
    3. Portuguese (Operated from GOA in ENDIA so there is an Endian element here too.)
    4. Dutch (Brought down tobacco slaves from ENDIA so there is an ENDIAN element here too.)

The BRISHIT-ENDIA anti SL nasty and evil axis has come together once again!

This is worse than cold war. During cold war these 2 were divided now they are united against SL. We need another cold war to divide these enemies.

  9. Lorenzo Says:

    Ananda,

Absolutely, MR should seize the opportunity from both hands, legs and balls.

Everything is perfectly placed to HAMMER Endia. Otherwise we wil be taken for granted.

  10. SA Kumar Says:

Indian trained Tamil militants & wipped out them with out blood in their hand !
Now India are playing very cool game now !!! before We realised what game they are playing game should have been finised !

  11. Fran Diaz Says:

Sri Lanka can become more Self Sufficient as far as possible without getting angry with India. India too was caught in the Colonial net and wishes not to get wrapped up in neo-colonialisation.

Whichever we slice the problem, Sri Lanka has to become more and more Self Sufficient.

One wonders what was British Prime Minister David Cameron’s agenda when he not only castigated the Sri Lankan government for its alleged human rights abuses but also made a visit to Jaffna “to see for himself” what had transpired. My understanding of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), currently being concluded in Sri Lanka, was that it was a meeting of leaders of the Commonwealth, a more or less toothless body, and not used by the former empire to chide subjects, particularly natives, for bad governance.

I cannot recall another instance of a Commonwealth head of state interfering so blatantly in the internal affairs of another country. It is somewhat rich for Cameron to castigate Sri Lanka. The British didn’t have much of a human rights record when they ruled the colonies. More recently, its role in the wars against Iraq and in Afghanistan as part of the coalition of the willing leaves a lot to be desired.

And hours before coming to Colombo to upstage everyone else, the British prime minister had said in a statement in India that “it would be good to meet Narendra Modi”. That statement itself is chilling.

Let us be honest at least. Canada and Mauritius stayed away from CHOGM also because of the human rights record of the Sri Lankan government. The fact that what they said was both countries have sizeable Tamil populations doesn’t seem to have raised eyebrows it seems. The biased coverage of this controversy as seen on the BBC, an otherwise favourite news channel of mine, indicates that the days of independent public broadcasting seem to be coming to an end in the UK.

India was at least pragmatic. Facing an election in the coming year, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s party cannot upset its allies in the south. There was no talking down to Sri Lanka. Possibly India learnt its lessons earlier on and doesn’t want to burn its fingers again.

All wars have casualties and human rights abuses. There is no denying that. And Sri Lanka should be encouraged to set up an independent human rights commission to investigate the allegations of atrocities. They have enough right minded people to head it.

But for the British PM to take it upon himself to investigate these allegations on his own suggests that he may be angling for something other than justice for the victims. Sri Lanka has a capable system that should be able to do what is needed. One does not need to embarrass the country into this.

One must recall that Sri Lanka is that country which finally shunned all international intervention when it went for its military offensive against the LTTE. Do not try and force it into a situation where it does the same again. Because the last time it did this, it succeeded in fixing the problem.

For me, the most powerful statement in CHOGM came from Sri Lankan president Rajapaksa. In an angry response to the statements made by Cameron and others, he said killings had taken place in Sri Lanka not only in 2009, as his government crushed the LTTE, but for 30 years up until then. Since the past four years, “there has been no terrorist attack in the country.”

Sitting in strife-torn Pakistan, this statement itself was enough to inspire me. I wish the same could be achieved in my country, where terrorism is eating away from inside while other countries pay lip service to our problems.

As far as the conflict in Pakistan is concerned, it is not enough for Mr Cameron to pump money into the government machinery here as part of the British contribution to our war. There must be some ownership. We don’t see that. In fact, the British treat Pakistan and Pakistanis quite shabbily.

Ours is a war that your government and its allies helped create in the first place. Britain has many stakes in Pakistan, as I am sure it did in Sri Lanka when that country was at war, but that would be transgressing. The fact is that when Sri Lanka was fighting its war, the British government did little to help. CHOGM was silent on the issue.

Maybe the anger is more directed to the fact that the Chinese have been given lucrative contracts in Sri Lanka. But best not to speculate and question the motives of great powers.

  13. Wijesinghe Susantha Says:

FRAN !! Yes, Sri Lanka should be self sufficient, and can be in many ways. There is so much land to cultivate. The Army should get more involved with Agricultural Projects all over the Country. Vavuniya is very fertile land. I had 100 acres in Vavuniya, Jungle land which I leased out from the Vavuniya Kachcheri. The land was between Cheddikulam on the Vavuniya Mannar Road, and Poorvasanakulam on the Vavuniya Jaffne road. There were many Sinhalese Villagers cultivating on this stretch of land. I lost a lot of money and I came out. Later I heard that LTTE killed all the Sinhalese on that stretch of Land. Now the Army must take over and cultivate. I remember putting some cucumber seed in the little land we cleared, and truly, we were walking on cucumber. So much of it. There was no collection method for the market. Villagers were asked to bring a gunny bag of cucumber to Medawachchiya at Rs3.00. it was not profitable and all the vegetable that was planted rotted on the fields. Politicians were not helpful at all. The richest man in Cheddikulam at that time was Salahu Mohammed, who had over 300 goats, while cultivating his fields. Very hard working man.

  14. Christie Says:

It is a pity we cant see what India and Indians overseas are up to. India could only managed to keep Mauritius out and British Canadian PM out all dominated by Indian colonial parasites and Indian vermin.

If we stand up to Indian there ate a lot follow us.

  15. Fran Diaz Says:

    Susantha,

Here’s my take on matters, for what it is worth.

At that time, it was probably due to inexperience in growing and marketing vegetables that brought about losses. Also, the type of crop matters. A veggie such pumpkin may keep longer on the shelf than cucumber. A crop of cucumber ought to be picked and used up soon, unused crop turned into dill pickles popular in the west (part of bbq food), and with tourists in the east. As afar as I know, local folk consume fresh cucumber usually as a ‘salad’ with tomato, onion and green chillies to be eaten with rice and curries.

When Sri Lanka had the Marketing Dept in operation, their lorries used to go and collect the vegetables. The Department’s canneries processed the excess veggies into james and pickles, which were canned & bottled. UNP boss RW did away with the MD lorry collection ? Some things are best left untouched and the UNP has yet to learn that. The other peoples establishment done away with was the CWE. Who benefitted from all this – certainly not the people, but a handful of individuals ?? !!

Sri Lanka ought to bring back the CWE and the MD lorry collections of perishables such as veg and milk.

Sri Lanka is a Social Republic.

I had pointed put the DANGER of India’s National Oil Corporation involvement in Offshore Oil Exploration & Production in Sri Lankan waters, and the ONGC bidding for new oil blocks off Mannar. I suggested giving them to Vietnam or China, instead.

A high-powered Vietnamese Trade Delegation is NOW visiting Sri Lanka …. CUT AN OIL Exploration & Production deal with Vietnam and KICK INDIA OUT!

    ………………………………..
Vietnam trade delegation in Sri Lanka to hold B2B meetings today

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 18, Colombo: A 17-member high powered business delegation from Vietnam is in Sri Lanka to participate in a Business Networking Event organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The visit of the delegation is organized by the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Embassy in Colombo.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in association with the Sri Lanka-Greater Mekong Subregion Business Council has organized the B2B meetings on Monday, November 18. The meetings will take place at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on Nawam Mawatha in Colombo at 10 a.m.

The delegates’ areas of business interests include Agricultural machinery, engines and parts, agricultural products, such as: coffee, pepper, rice, Batteries, Diesel engines, Handicrafts, Medicines, Chemicals, Vietnamese agricultural products, instant noodles Oil, gas, petroleum products, Power Cables, Sugar Vegetable processing and maintaining, Supply the Agri-solutions from farming to finish products, Seedling producers and Rubber foam insulation among other things.

  17. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

YES FRAN !! It was then ad hoc Agriculture. There was no collection of vegetables from areas that had an abundance of it. I wrote to Anuruddha to have collection centres in all these outstation area Railway Stations, to collect Vegetables that are rotting in the fields. He was my good friend and relation, but he apparently threw my letter away, thinking that I might be a NUT. Nobody cared for the poor villagers THEN AND EVEN NOW. So it is best if the Army takes interest in developing Agriculture to make Sri Lanka self sufficient in many items, presently imported from India, permission granted, with evil eye on Commissions. Political hypocrisy and lethargy.
