End Sinhala Monopoly, Says Kumaratunga

Former Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga said here on Saturday, that the dismantling of Sinhala majoritarian politics, government structures and laws, is essential for the establishment of durable peace in the island nation.
In her SJV Chelvanayakam oration on Winning the war is not establishing peace” held under the auspices of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi, Kumaratunga said the root cause of the unending ethnic conflict in Lanka is the monopolisation of the political, economic and social resources of the country by the majority Sinhala community to the exclusion of the minority communities.
In her view, the Sinhala Only Act of 1956 is not the root cause. The root cause is that the other two languages, namely Tamil and English, were neglected. The country’s ancient genius will have been truly and fully realised if the Act had been an inclusive one, she said. In the context of the fear and distrust plaguing ethnic relations in Lanka, Kumaratunga urged Lankans not to harp on the bitter past and indulge in a blame game but get down to building an inclusive, democratic and cohesive society.

This is utter absurd.
Quite the oppositte. The root cause of the so called ethnic conflict is the monopolisation of the political, economic and social resources of the country by the minority Tamil community to the exclusion of the Sinhala and Muslim communities. Take Jaffna district for instance. Does it allow Sinhala and Muslim communities to use its political, economic and social resources? No. Only Tamils use them. The very same is true about Colombo City, Batticaloa, Trincomalee town, etc. Sri Lankan Tamils making up only 11% of the population dominate all important faculties of taxpayer funded universities by occupying over 30% of opportunities. Every District has atleast 20,000 Tamils but there are at least 4 districts without 20,000 Sinhalese.
Chandrika has shown she is akin to an Apartheid agent trying to deprive the majority of what is rightfully due to them and turn Sri Lanka into an Apartheid era South Africa.
ITAK has done well to invite her for the address. For the record, there was no Sinhala Only Act. It was the Official Language Act.

Sinhela monopoly is not there in the country in general.
Except in north the people from all three ethnic groups, Sinhela, Tamil and Muslims are living as brothers and sisters and in hand in hand with no issue.
Remove ‘THESAWALAME’ law from Jafna and develop roads from Colombo to Jafna allowing Sri Lankans, the so called general public from Sinhela, Muslim and Tamils to move freely across the country then the so called minority issue of Jafna Tamils will be solved. Remove Thesawalame law first and install one law in the country.

CBK expertly says that the language act is not the root cause of the issue. How very kind since it was her father that implemented it.
Sri Lanka is a democracy, hence the majority rule. Where in the world does 10% of the population get so many benefits. Tamils get their fair share and then some. Unfortunately, they are still unhappy and forever will be unhappy until they carve out a piece of SL. Once upon a time, CBK almost gave them all of the North. Fortunately for the people of SL, that dumb bastard VP rejected it. If he had half a brain, he would have taken it. Once the initial offer of 10 years was up, Sri Lanka would never have regained that territory. The North would be a separate country today.
I cannot believe that the people of SL are still putting up with CBK. To make matters worse, Vimukthi, the man who was ashamed to be called a Sri Lankan, now wants to get into politics in SL.

I agree that with Dikrook that the Sinhala masses are at the bottom of the pile in the socio-economic ladder. They have to be prepared to undergo pain to achieve gain and do ‘kaisan’, and prepared to work hard as Tamils and others do.

Namaste: This woman grew up in a home where the Non Indian people had dealings with the household from the Official areas while the Indians were entertained in the Home areas. She went to St Bridget’s and guess who her friends were. Then they relied on Indian money to carryout their profession the politics. Jai Hind

Chandrika, You are a shame on your mother land. You became the President, thanks to your parents plus there was nobody to lead the country after (LTTE & JVP) eliminated Premadasa, Athulathmudali, Gamini Dissanayake, Ranjan Wieratne etc etc. Do you think we are proud of you? NO. You were the worst Executive President SL ever had. We have to wait and see about MS.
