Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine, Dr Rajitha Senaratne was to be flown to Singapore for an emergency heart bypass surgery from Lanka Hospitals yesterday night after he was admitted to the hospital with chest pains.

Medical sources revealed that Dr Senaratne had come to Lanka Hospitals Thursday night (18) complaining of chest pain and he had returned home after being treated.

Sources said the Health Minister had returned to Lanka Hospital yesterday morning complaining that the chest pain persisted. After further tests it was decided that he should be flown to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for an emergency surgery.

They said at the time of going to press a team from Singapore was on its way to Sri Lanka to accompany Dr Senaratne. A medical team from Lanka Hospitals, too, was also on standby, sources said.
