Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed Parliament yesterday that the Supreme Court by a majority vote had determined that the 20th Amendment to the Constitution was inconsistent with several Articles in the Constitution and would have to be passed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament and approved by people at a referendum.

Speaker Jayasuriya said: “I wish to announce to the House that I have received the determination of the Supreme Court in respect of the bill titled ‘Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution’ which has been challenged in the Supreme Court in terms of Article 121(1) of the Constitution.

“The majority of the court has determined that clauses 2, 3 and 4 of the Bill are inconsistent with the Articles 3, 4, 12(1) and 14(1) of the Constitution and under Article 83 the Bill shall become law if the number of votes cast in favour thereof amounts to not less than two-thirds of the whole number of Members (including those not present) approved by the People at a Referendum and a certificate is endorsed thereon by the President in accordance with Article 80.

“I order that the determination of the Supreme Court be printed in the official report of today’s proceedings.”

Joint Opposition MPs thumped their desks welcoming the announcement of Supreme Court decision.

Of course, the 20-A needs approvaal via aa nationwide referendum.

But, will the Yamapalanaya HEED the Supreme Court? Like the OMP Bill, they will try to RAM-THROUGH the 20-A with their 2/3 majority, and hope to cope with the fall-out in the next elections in some devious way that bribes everyone having a vote, no matter what it will do to the national economy thereafter.

That is what has brought Sri Lanka to its kness now; they will REPEAT all the BOONDOGGLES we have witnessed in the last 2 1/2 years.

Will the PATRIOTS of Sri Lanka STAND and WATCH while their Motherland is brought to its kneews? I VERY MUCH DOUBT IT. A BASTILLE IS LOOMING for these TRAITORS! They KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO!

20-A needs 2/3 majority, approval at referendum-Supreme Court- Now You understand what need to remove 13A ?

let me put in different way ,We-Tamil also against this Indian 13A baby because this is not good for our Thani (separate) TE day dream , so never know We-Tamil may support 2/3 & referendum to remove 13A to start our Eelam war V !

    Ane….

    Kumar,

First, INDIA, the country that forced the 13-A under Duress on the JRJ govt in 1987, has to approve the removal of the 13-A.
    INDIA is the regional boss.
The 13-A is leading to Lanka Separatism.
Does INDIA want a separate Tamil Eelam at their Southern tip ?
It is logical to think that it will serve INDIAN interests to remove the 13-A.

Lanka can next have the 2/3 majority vote in Parliament plus the Referendum.
Tamil Eelam is in Tamil Nadu Nilgiris.

    Kumar,
More accurately, “Tamil Eelam” the truest Tamil Homeland of high spiritual ascent, is in your Hearts, within you.
In the same way, Truth/Nirvana for Buddhists is within us. “Truth is within you” said the Buddha.
Same for Hindu people, as stated in the Bhagavad Gita, Truth is in the Hearts, within them.
The motto on the INDIAN flag says “Truth wins” – Sathya Meva Jayathe !
Also, Heaven is within the Christian/Catholic people – Christ said “the Kingdom of Heaven is Within You”.
    Islam means Peace, within.

More accurately, “Tamil Eelam” the truest Tamil Homeland of high spiritual ascent, is in your Hearts, within you.- NOT true , Chignkala Theevu ( Sinhela island) is for Majority Buddist sinhelese and they have lived with Saiva Tamils & Tamils Muslim for long period at least 2,500 years according to Great Mahavamsam also When ever Saiva Tamils get chance to rule Mother Lanka they always respect Buddisum & Sinhela people (Eg: Elra to Sampanthan / CM Viggie).

If We-Tamil identify as Tamil nothing else than We do not need Home land TE because We already have home land TN (Naadu mean country) of course it run by other (Delhi/Telugu) people now.

But If We-Ilankai Tamilar identify as Eelavar (Eelam in sinhela Hela) than We need United Sinhela Mother Lanka where We happily live with Bhuddist Sinhelese .

Live & let’s live in United Sinhela Lanka for ever , No need Eelam war V !!!
