APPOINT MR MAHINDA RAJAPAKSE AS A NATIONAL LIST MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT- OVERWHELMING DEMAND OF NATION, UPFA AND SLFP MPs
Posted on February 21st, 2015

By M D P DISSANAYAKE

The vast majority of the general public and the UPFA parlimentarians have realised the dangers of lop-sided results of the recently held Presidential Election in Sri Lanka.   The outcome resulted in punishing the Wrong Man ( His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapakse) and rewarding  Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe, the well known anti-Nationalist.

The realisation of the grave error of judgement on  the election day has come sooner than expected.  The public demand for the re-instatement of Mr Mahinda Rajapakse is outpouring.  Efforts of the Opposition Leader Mr Nimal Siripala de Silva, National Organizer Mr Susil Premajayantha, President Maithireepala Sirisena and former President Mrs Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumatunge to ignore the public demand will be futile.   So far Mr Nimal Siripala de Silva has failed in his duties as the Opposition Leader.  His No Confidence Motion signed by the majority of Parlimentaries against Minister Mr John Amaratunge has been put into the back burner at the request of Prime Minister. It is highly unlikely that Mr Siripala will be able to hold onto his power base in Badulla.  Even though in 1994 Elections Mr Siripala obtained the highest preferential votes, the current trend clearly indicates erosion of his popularity.  He is providing lip service to the Prime Minister instead of standing firm as the Opposition Leader.

The  change of the Constitution should not be carried out in a hurry to pass on Executive Powers on a silver platter to Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe.  Instead, the majority in the Parliament currently sitting as Opposition, should pave way to bring back the former President Mr Mahinda Rajapakse, prior to making any changes to the Constitution.

The current wave of public sympathy towards the former President is converting into public anger against the SLFP leaders who are determined to block any efforts to bring back the former Leader.  A resolution demanding the appointment of former President  as a National List MP is being processed as a priority.

Instead of repenting for the error of judgement on the 8 January, the majority Parliamentarians of the opposition should raise their hands immediately to instal Mr Mahinda Rajapakse.

MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA SHOULD STEER CLEAR OF THE SLFP, PERIOD.

IN THE MINDS OF ALL SRI LANKANS, IS THAT MR IS NOW ****THE NUGEGODA MAN****It has to continue that way.

NIMAL SIRIPAL IS STOOPING TO BE A SEVALEYA. He thinks, when Ranil becomes President, he will be Prime Minister. WISHFUL THINKING.

  2. Ananda-USA Says:

I agree with Susantha that MR should AVOID MS like a PLAGUE, BUT disagree with Susantha in that MR should take CONTROL of the SLFP/UPFA NOW by OUSTING MS from the Party Leadership, EMERGE as PM at the Next General Election!

Who would TRUST MS, the BACK-STABBER, while the knife he used IS STILL PROTRUDING from our BACKS? Any TAKERS??

  3. callistus Says:

“NUGEGODA MAN” will go from strength to strength in the coming months. There is a fair chance the July election which is not yet announced, will be postponed, and they have done that before. This will give them time to reduce prices of more commodities bringing the economy to its knees. “Nugegoda Man” does not have media support at the moment because of fear of Yahapalanaya. Nalin and Lankaweb (except Kotiya Lorence)are the only brave people at the moment. But others will no doubt join.

    Callistus,

Nandawathi has disappeared for a while … the kitchen got too hot for her; but after a REVERSIBLE sex-change operation she has been replaced by another!

Can you guess who has replaced Nandawathi? You have to look closely not only at what is written, but how it is expressed, and the underlying emotions!

You see, it is very difficult to hide the fingerprints of the actual wolf under the sheepskin over a long period of time, especially when provoked and emotions rise!

  6. Christie Says:

Namaste: “Any TAKERS??” . Yes Ananda USA. The Coolie went and worshipped the Emperor, haven’t you watched and followed the pilgrimage? Media sys Governor is in UK feeding the future Governor.

  7. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

ANANDA !!IN MY VERY FIRST COMMENT, I HAVE CLEARLY STATED ****MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA SHOULD STEER CLEAR OF THE SLFP, PERIOD. ****

SO, ANANDA, HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT ***I HAVE STATED THAT MR SHOULD TAKE CONTROL OF SLFP/UFPA ETC***

WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR MIND ??? IN SOME OTHER ARTICLE ALSO YOU SAY THE SAME THING. YOU HAVE DEFINITELY GOT YOUR WIRES MIXED UP.

ARE YOU ON A VENDETTA TO BELITTLE ME IN THIS FORUM.

PRINT MY WORDS AND GIVE REFERENCE TO THE COMMENT, I HAVE SUPPOSED TO HAVE MADE. YOU MUST BE REALLY SICK.

  8. Ananda-USA Says:

    Susantha,

Terribly Sorry if my LANGUAGE got too convoluted in the second part of my statement, to wit:

“I agree with Susantha that MR should AVOID MS like a PLAGUE, BUT disagree with Susantha in that MR should take CONTROL of the SLFP/UPFA NOW by OUSTING MS from the Party Leadership, EMERGE as PM at the Next General Election!”

    What I meant was:

    1. I agree with Susantha that MR should AVOID MS like a PLAGUE, and

    2. I disagree with Susantha that a new party should be created by MR. Instead, MR should to take CONTROL of the SLFP/UPFA NOW by OUSTING MS from the Party Leadership, and EMERGE as PM at the Next General Election.

You want MR to create a NEW political party, while I would like him to WREST BACK control of the EXISTING SLFP from MS, and lead it to Victory in the next General Election.

This should be done with minimal splitting of the SLFP, because the General Election is TOO CLOSE now to repair any damage caused by a significant split of the SLFP.

  9. Ananda-USA Says:

    Susantha,

I hope I have CLARIFIED my stand to your satisfaction.

It was I, NOT YOU, who wants MR to take control of the SLFP/UPFA from MS and contest the General Election as the SLFP/UPFA Leader and candidate for the future PM position!

  10. Ananda-USA Says:

    Susantha,

While I, like you, want MR to be restored to the Executive Presidency, how can that be achieved?

MS can be REPLACED as Executive President by MR by

    1. MR contesting the Presidential Election 6 years from now and defeating MS. That will require a 6 year wait until the NEXT Presidential Elections and preventing elimination of the Executive Presidency in the interim.

    2. IMPEACHING MS and ousting him from the Office of President by Vote of Parliament. That requires a valid and compelling cause for IMPEACHMENT, and (I think) a 2/3 MAJORITY VOTE in Parliament.

    3. MR WRESTING control of the SLFP/UFPA from MS NOW, leading the party to VICTORY in the next General Election, becoming the PRIME MINISTER in Parliament and PREVENT MS from eliminating the Executive Presidency by exercising his leadership in Parliament, and RECAPTURING the Executive Presidency in the Presidential Election 6 years from now.

Now, there is a POSSIBILITY that to PREVENT Option 3 from being exercised successfully, MS would APPOINT a member of the MINORITY party (say, Ranil from the UNP as he has now) instead of allowing MR to become the PM. In that case, the MAJORITY party (presumably the SLFP) in the Opposition can DEFEAT EVERY BILL that comes up for vote in Parliament, bringing the government to a standstill. If MS continues to allow a hung Parliament in which the bills of his minority government are DEFEATED, that would be SUFFICIENT CAUSE for IMPEACHMENT for FAILURE to PERFORM his DUTIES as Executive President and OUST him from the Executive Presidency.

What path do you propose to bring MR to the Executive Presidency??

  11. ranjit Says:

If these power hungry S.L.F.P politicians do not listen to the public demand we should think of a way to bring “NUGEGODA MAN” back to politics and give our wholehearted backing to him to lead the country once again. People like Nimal Siripala calling MY3 my President is shameless. How can we in the S.L.F.P. call him my President or our President. He left the party back stabbing the leader of the party and contested against the Party President then how come these lunatics call him “My President or Our President”? We would have ousted this UNP backed Govt on the first day itself by voting against the budget. Why they gave their vote? Did UNP voted anytime for Rajapksa budgets for nearly ten years? We shouldn’t support these traitors on any issue because they never cooperated with us at any time except protesting for everything.

My view is Bring our great son of Mother Lanka His Excellency Mahinda Rajapksa back to politics on a new brand with a new team of truly experienced,Educated lot with a new vision to the country. Nobody can trust this ugly evil trio Ranil,Chandrika,MY3. They were all traitors who have ignored the Sinhala Buddhists. They were all paid agents of the west and India. They were all LTTE sympathizers who have helped LTTE more than anybody in the history of Sri Lankan politics. They were responsible for killing fields in 70’s & 80’s and they should be brought to justice for treason in the first place. Wake up people.Wake up to save our land of birth.

  12. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

ANANDA !! OUR IDEAS CAN BE DIFFERENT< BUT MIS-REPRESENTATION WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME.

LET US CLOSE THE CHAPTER AND GET ON. TREAT IT AS A FLAT TYRE ON THE WAY.

  13. Ananda-USA Says:

    Susantha,

I did not “MISREPRESENT” ANYTHING … I NEVER do that! The wording of what I wrote was not clear to you and you misunderstood it; so I MADE IT ABSOLUTELY CLEAR.

We AGREED on ONE item and DISAGREED on ONE other item; There was NO INTENTIONAL MISREPRESENTATION of any kind!

  14. Independent Says:

Yes. I too think this should be done immediately. I repeatedly said there is no logic in letting this government to run against the will of SLFP MPs. There are few MPs greedy for future positions, but if majority come form Nugegoda Man , surely this can be done.

  15. Independent Says:

    Susantha,

“MR should AVOID MS like a PLAGUE” – You did not say that. You said very clearly MR should form a new party no need to try and manipulate SLFP. Your statement was very clear to anyone who understand English.

But I think he should grab the power if possible , now. This is because majority of current SLFP MP’s still support him underground. They should defeat UNP government and let a election to be held ASAP. More delay, more “parties” held by Nugegoda Man will come into the picture.

  16. Ananda-USA Says:

THIS IS THE THIN END of THE WEDGE in DISMANTLING Sri Lanka’s Powerful Armed Forces!

Gotabhaya ACTED UPON suggestions made by a host of PATRIOTS to OFFSET the cost of MAINTAING a LARGE Sri Lanka Defence Force by using them in National Development work such as CONSTRUCTION of Civilian Infrastructure.

In that way it would be possible to Maintain Battle-Ready Armed Forces to defend the Nation against ANY & ALL LOCAL & FOREIGN enemies. That is CALLED DETERENCE! Now, that Ran Weta DEFENDING our Motherland is being DISMANTLED!

Next will come AN EXCUSE that the COST of DEFENCE is TOO HIGH, UNSUSTAINABLE and the numbers of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Coast Guard men MUST BE REDUCED to BALANCE the BUDGET! A self-fulfilling Prophecy since the Development Funds used to maintain them was taken away!

    WHO WILL BENEFIT from This?

The TAMIL Eelamist SEPARATISTS demanding REMOVAL of Army bases in the North, and the emerging Hard-Core MUSLIM SEPARATISTS demanding the “Return of Land to Muslims” in the East … OF COURSE!

Aiyooooo Sirisenaaaa …. You are WRECKING the DEFENCES of our MOTHERLAND built as such great COST in BLOOD & TREASURE!

Sri Lankan government directs thousands of soldiers engaged in labor work back to their regiments

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 22, Colombo: The government of Sri Lanka has reassigned close to 18,000 soldiers who were deployed to work on development projects under the former government back to their regiments.

The former government had deployed around 18,000 military personnel to work in most of its development projects and most of them worked as laborers.

Deputy Urban Development Minister Dunesh Gankanda told the media that the objective was to ensure that their jobs were protected and their services were not used for labor work.

He said that only soldiers required for skilled work such as technicians would be retained in projects and the others will be sent back to their units.

President Maithripala Sirisena during the election campaign pledged to ensure the dignity of forces personnel by not deploying them for laborers’ work.

Sri Lanka Muslim party expresses concerns over land issue in the Eastern Province

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), an ally of the Sri Lankan government has expressed concern over the land issue in the Eastern Province.

The SLMC has written to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe about the concerns over land yet to be returned to Muslims in the Eastern Province.

SLMC General Secretary M.T. Hassan Ali has stated in the letter that the Muslims want a solution to the issue ahead of the announcement of general elections.

The SLMC has noted that the illegal dispossession of land is affecting thousands of Sri Lanka’s citizens in the Eastern Province.

“This land has been occupied, cultivated and improved over the last thirty years by these citizens. But today they are being forcibly and irregularly dispossessed and denied the ability to exercise their rights to utilize their lands in freedom and without restriction, despite having done so for a very long period of time,” Hassan Ali has stated, adding that repeated representations to relevant authorities have failed to secure return of the respective lands.

The SLMC has pointed out that the failure to resume possession of, use and enjoy respective lands by the Muslims in the area has drastically affected their lives and those of their families.

“Thus, these citizens remain denied of their rights and in relation to lands that their families occupied/cultivated/improved for over three decades. This continuous denial of their rights is referable to failure of the authorities to take proper steps and measures,” Hassan Ali has noted in the letter.
