Focusing on youth empowerment at social business day

Guwahati: Emphasizing on all round youth empowerment, the 6th annual Social Business Day was organized by Yunus Centre on 28 May 2015 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka of Bangladesh.
The daylong event with the theme titled ‘We Are Not Job-Seekers, We Are Job-Givers—Turning Unemployment into Entrepreneurship’ was hosted by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, which was attended by more than 1600 delegates including 250 international participants from around 30 countries.
Addressing the auspicious gathering in his keynote speech, the Bangladeshi peace Nobel laureate, emphasized on breaking the curse of poverty and unemployment by using creative power of youths and scientific knowhow.
Though the Social Business Day is observed every year on June 28, it has been preponed this year because of Ramadan. Next year, also for the same reason, the Day will be celebrated on 28 May 2016, said a statement issued by the Yunus Centre based in Dhaka.
Three plenary sessions including ‘Meet Nobin Udyoktas (new entrepreneur)’, ‘Sharing Experiences in Social Business around the World’ and ‘Road Map Forward’ were comprised in the Day, which was kicked off with a beautiful performance by Grameen Shiksha School.
Various speakers visiting Dhaka from different parts of the world gave their insights in the discussions, which were moderated by Prof Yunus.
There was a social business marketplace showcasing the products and programmes with a fair comprising new entrepreneurs’ products and was organised a panel on social business in greater China. Over 90 participants from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong joined in the panel discussion covering the concept & best practices, present status, future plans of social business around the globe.
