බුදු හිමියන් විසින් පළමුවෙන් හ ඳුන්වා දුන් පසු දෙවනුව මිහිඳු මා හිමියන් විසින් බුසසුන සිංහල දේ ශයේ ස්ථාපිත කරන ලදී හෙළයෝ සහ සිංහලයෝ වසර තුන්දහසකටත් වඩා කාලයක සිට මේ නිසා බෞද්ධයෝ වුහ . වෙනත් ආගමිකයෝ ආගිය අ ය වුහ . එහෙව් අ යද අතලොස්සකි . එනිසාම සිංහල දේශය දහම් දිවයින වුනේය පරයින්ගෙන් පසුව බිහිවූ කිතුනුවන් පවා හැඳින් වුනේ ”’ ආගම් කාරයින් ”’ ලෙසය බෞද්ධයෝ තමන්ගෙන් ඔවුන් වෙන්කර හඳුනා ගත්තේ එසේය . බුදු දහම අනෙක් ආගම් වලින් වලින් වෙනස් බව ත් ආගමික ලකුණකට වඩා තවත් විශේෂ දෙයක් බුදු දහමේ ඇති බවත් එකල සාමාන්‍ය බෞද්ධයෝ පවා දන සිටියහ . සිංහලයන්ගේ ජීවන ක්‍රමය සංස්කරණය වුනේ හෙවත් ”’කෘත්‍යය ‘ සැකසුනේ බුදුදම අනුසාරයෙනි එනිසාම සිංහල සංස්කෘතිය බෞද්ධ සන්කෘතියක් ම විය .
අදටත් බෞද්ධයෝ 70% ක් රටේ ඇත . ඔවුන් විසින් නඩත්තු කරන සංඝයා වහන්සේලා 30000 ක් පමණ රටේ ඇත . පන්සල් 10000 ක් පමණ ඇත . පේදුරු තුඩුවේ සිට දෙ වුන්දර තුඩුව දක්වා විහිදුනු බෞද්ධ නටබුන් කියා පාන්නේ මේ රට බෞධ්ධයන්ගේ රට බවය් බලහත් කාරයෙන් පැමිණි පරයින් විසින් එ හෙව් රට මේ වන විට 30% ක්පමණ අන් ලබ්ධිකයන්ගෙන් පුරවා ඇත .
මේ මහා පින් කෙත දිහා බලා ඉන්නට බැරි ඉරිසියාවෙන් පෙළුන පරයෝ එක එක දෙසින් මෙහි පැමිණ සරු කේත පුරන් කරන්නට විවිධ උපක්‍රම යෙ දුහ. පරංගි ලන්දේසි හා ඉංගිරිසින් මෙන්ම චෝලයන් ගැනද අපි දනිමු නීල පෙරුමාල් පරපුර ගැන ද ඔබ අසා ඇත .මහිදී කිතුනුවන් බවට පත්වූ ඔවුහු සුද්දන්ගේ හොඳ ගෝලයන් බවට පත්වුහ .. එක අයෙක් පමණක් මොන හේතුවක් නිසාදෝ උන්ගෙන් බින්දී බෞධ්ධවී සින්හලා බෞද්ධයන් වෙනුවෙන් වැඩ කරන්නට ඉදිරි පත්විය .ජන හදවත් ගැහෙන අයුරු ඔහු වටහා ගත්තේය ඔහු වංක වුනත් අවංක වුනත් කලේ කලයුතු නියම දෙයය් .ඔහට බෞද්ධ බිරියක්ද ලැබීම අපේම හොඳට සිදුවුවකි . එහෙත් ඔවුන්ට අති ජාත තබා අනුජාත , සහජාත දරුවන් වත් සිටියේ නැත . සතියේ අනෙක් වර්ගයේ උන්ය . මින් එකියක් චින්චිමානවිකාවටත් වඩා කුපාඩිය චින්චි ට උවමනා වුයේ බුදු හිමියන්ට අපහාස කිරීමටය එහෙත් මේ කිට අවශ්‍ය මුළු බෞද්ධ රටම කණපිට පෙරලා අබෞද්ධ රටක් කිරීමටය ..”” ආගම්කාර ”’ නළුවෙක් හා විවාහවී උගේ බහට නතුවී දෙමල බෙදුම් වාදීන්ට රට පාවාදීමට ය තවලමේ ගියාය . ඒ තවල ම හැර තවත් අවලම් ගමන් කීයක් නම් යන්නට අත්දය් බොහෝ ය දනිති වර ක් යසට පාලනය වූ වෙක් සමග නටන විට හසුවී නළුවාගෙන් ගුටිකවේය .වරක් ”ගුණත් සනේ ” අල්ලාගෙන ඔහුගේ ජීවිතයම විනාශ කාලය . ඇය නුතන ක්ලියෝපට්‍රාව ලෙස දැන් ගුණත් සනේ විසින් හදුන්වන්නේ එහෙයිනි හරි හැටි ඇස නොපෙනුනත් ඇය බෞධ්ධයින්ගේ ඇ දනම් අතගගා හරි සොයය් . මේ ඉන්දියානු වෙල්පාසි ලංකාවට ගෙනවිත් බොදු පින් කෙ ත විනාශ කරන්නට අයව යොදවන්නේ මරු සිරා සහ අලුගෝසුවා විසිනි .මේ සඳහා හොඳම තැනැත්තිය ය බවොවුහු තේරුම් ගෙන ඇත .
සන්හින්දියාවේ නාමයෙන් අපේ දරුවන්ට බුදු දහම පාසලේදී ඉගෙනීමට ඇති ඉඩත් නැතිකිරීමට මය දැන් කටයුතු කර ය් සංහිඳියාවක් අවශ්‍ය නම් කලයුත්තේ 75% ක භාෂා ව වන සිංහල අන් හැමදෙනාම ඉගෙන ගැනීමත් මේ රටේ සංස්කෘතියේ ප්‍රධාන සංරචකය වන බෞද්ධ සංකෘතිය ගැන අන් හැම දෙනාම වැටහීමක් ලබා ගැනීමත් ය . 70% කට සුලුවාර්ගිකයන්ගන ඉගෙන ගනී මට බල කිරීම අ න වශ්ෂ්‍ය දෙයකි ඔවුන් කුපිත කරවන්නකි ඔස්ට්‍රලියාව එංගලන්තය හා ඇමෙරිකාව වැනි රටවල සිටින හැම දෙනාම ඉංග්‍රීසි ඉගෙන ගෙන ඒ බසින් කටයුතුකරන්නේ සන්හින්දියාවට එසේ කල යුතු බැවිනි . ඉතින් ලංකාවේ එසේ නොවන්නේ බොහෝ දෙනා වෙල් පාසි වලින් දුෂණය වී ඇතිනිසා විය හැක
ගෑවුන තැන කසන වෙල්පාසි මුළු රටෙන් ම තුරන් කිරීමට සියලු දෙනාම කැපවිය යුතුය . බෞද්ධ අම්මලාගෙන් කිරි බී හැ දුන වැඩු න සියල්ලෝම මේ අවස්ථාවේ ඒකරාශී වියයුතුය .. ”මා මරන්නට අන්‍යාගමික කුමන්ත්‍රණයක් ඇත ‘ය් ””””” සෝම හිමියෝ අන්තිම සිය දේශනයේදී පැවසුවා ඔබට මතකද . සියල්ල සිදුවූ පසු අනේ අනිච්චන් කියන්නට ගිහින් වැඩක් නැත .

එය ඉකුත් 2000 වර්ෂය විය. චන්ද්‍රිකා කුමාරතුංග මහත්මිය මෙරට පළමු විධායක ජනාධිපතිවරිය ලෙස රට පාලනය කරනු ලැබුවාය. පැවතියේ සන්ධාන රජයකි. එය මෙරට දේශපාලනයේ බොහෝ හැලහැප්පීම් සිදු වූ කාලයක්‌ද විය. හරියට අද වගේමය.
එකල යාපනය අර්ධද්වීපය එල්ටීටීඊ ත්‍රස්‌තවාදීන්ගෙන් රැක ගැනීම සඳහා වීරෝදාර රණවිරුවන් සිටියේ නිරන්තර සටනක යෙදෙමිනි. ශ්‍රී ලංකා යුද හමුදා විශේෂ බළකායේ රාජකාරි කළ සාජන් මේජර් සුනිල් රත්නායකද එකී සටනේ කොටස්‌කරුවකුව සිටියේය.
යාපනය මිරුසුවිල් ප්‍රදේශයේ ස්‌ථානගතව සිටි සුනිල් රත්නායක ඇතුළු රණවිරුවන්ට ඒ දිනවල මුහමලෙයි හා පලෙයි ප්‍රදේශයේ සිට එල්ටීටීඊ ත්‍රස්‌තවාදීහු දැඩි ප්‍රහාර එල්ල කරන්නට වූහ. එහෙත් එකී ප්‍රහාරයන්ට සාර්ථකව මුහුණ දුන් ඔවුහු ලේ, දහදිය, හෙළමින් ජීවිත පරදුවට තබා රට වෙනුවෙන් සටන් වදින්නට වූහ.
නමුත් එදා එසේ උපන් බිමේ විමුක්‌තිය උදෙසා සතුරු වෙඩි වරුෂා මැද නුහුරු ඉසව්වක සිට සිය හිරිමල් තාරුණ්‍යය ගෙවා දැමූ සාජන් මේජර් සුනිල් රත්නායකට අද කුමන ඉරණමක්‌ අත්ව තිබේද?
ඒ පිළිබඳ අමුතුවෙන් සටහන් කළ යුතු නැත. එය දැන් මුළු රටම දන්නා කතාවක්‌ බවට පත්ව ඇත. එදා උපන් බිම වෙනුවෙන් මිරුසුවිල් යුද බිමේ සිට සතුරා සමග සටන් වැදුණු සුනිල් රත්නායක අද සිටිනුයේ පෝරකයට නියමවූ සිරකරුවකු ලෙස වැලිකඩ බන්ධනාගාරයේ බිත්ති අතරට මැදිව ය. ඒ මිරුසුවිල්හිදී සිදුවූ සමුහ ඝාතනයක වරදකරුවකු ලෙසිනි.
මීට මාස කිහිපයකට පෙර ඔහු වරදකරුවකු බවට තීරණය කර මරණීය දණ්‌ඩනය නියම කරනු ලැබුවේ අධිකරණය මගිනි. එහෙයින් අපි ඒ පිළිබඳ කිසිත් කතා නොකරන්නෙමු. නමුත් එදා එකී තීන්දුව ප්‍රකාශ කිරීමත් සමග සාජන් මේජර් සුනිල් රත්නායක සමග කෙටි පිළිසඳරක යෙදෙන්නට රහසේම අපට හැකි විය.
එහෙත් එය රටට කියන්නට අපි මඳක්‌ ඉවසා සිටියෙමු. ගිරි කුළෙන් ඇද වැටුණු සුරා සොඬා සේ “ගත දැවටෙන මේ සීත පවන් රැළි අනේ සැපයි” කියනවා හැරෙන්නට පසුගිය කාලයේ වෙන කරන්නට දෙයක් නොවීම අපේ ඒ ප්‍රමාදයට හේතු විය.
එදා එසේ වුවද දැන් එය රටට හඬගා කියන්නට කාලය එළැඹ ඇත. තමන්ට මරණීය දණ්‌ඩනය හිමි වීමෙන් පසු සාජන් මේජර් සුනිල් රත්නායක හිස්‌ බැල්මකින් යුතුව ඔහේ බලා සිටියා දැනුදු මගේ මතකයේ ඇත. දැඩි අසරණ කමකින් ඒ දැස තෙත් වී තිබිණ.
මාධ්‍යකරණය හමුවේ යුද බිමේ ඇවිද ගියකු ලෙස රණවිරුවන්ගේ දුක වේදනාව ඇති තරම් මම දැක තිබුණෙමි. නමුත් රණවිරුවකු හදවතින් කඩා වැටී සිටිනු දුටු පළමු වතාව සුනිල් රත්නායක හමුවූ මොහොත බවද මෙහිදී විශේෂයෙන් සටහන් කළ යුතු වේ.
“ඉතින් සුනිල්.. මොකද වුණේ..” මම එදා ඔහුට හදවතේ ඇති බර වචන කරන්නට ඉඩ විවර කරමින් පළමු වචන කිහිපය මුදා හැරියේ එසේය. එතැන් පටන් සුනිල් කතා කරන්නට විය.
“මම යුද හමුදාවට බැඳුණේ 1995 දෙසැම්බර් මාසේ 12 වැනිදා. මගේ පවුලේ අම්මයි තාත්තයි සහෝදර සහෝදරියෝ හතරදෙනයි අපි ඔක්‌කොම ඒ දවස්‌වල ජීවත් වුණේ මහියංගනයේ අ¹උල්පොත ගමේ. ඉගෙන ගත්තේ ආ¹උල්පොත ජාතික පාසලේ..
“අපේ තාත්තා ගොවිතැන් කරලයි අපිව හැදුවේ.. අධ්‍යාපන කටයුතු ඉවර කරලා මම විතරයි අපේ පවුලෙන් හමුදාවට බැඳුණේ.. මට පොඩිකාලේ ඉඳන්ම හමුදා සෙබළෙක්‌ වීමේ ආශාව හිතේ තිබුණා.. ඒ දවස්‌වල මම හමුදාවට බැඳෙනවට අම්මයි තාත්තයි කැමති වුණේ නැහැ.. එල්ටීටීඊ ප්‍රහාරවලින් හමුදා සොල්දාදුවන් හත්අට දෙනා මැරුණු ප්‍රවෘත්ති උදේ හවස කියෑවුණා.
ඉතින් මොන අම්ම තාත්තද ඒ වගේ කාලෙක තමන්ගේ දරුවෙක්‌ හමුදාවට යනවට කැමති වෙන්නේ.. අම්මයි තාත්තයි යන්න එපා කිව්වා.. ඒත් මම හමුදාවට බැඳුනා.. යුද හමුදාවට එකතු වුණාට පස්‌සේ මාස කිහිපයක පුහුණුව අවසන් කරලා මාව යාපනය ගුරුනගර්වල රාජකාරියට දැම්මා..
“හැම තැනින්ම ඇහෙන්නේ වෙඩි හඬ.. ඒත් මට බයක්‌ දැනුණේ නැහැ.. අනිත් සෙබළුන් එකා පිට මැරිලා වැටුණත් සටන් කරන විදිහ දැක්‌කහම මගේ හිතට ආවේ ලොකු හයියක්‌.. අන්තිමට හිතේ ඉතුරු වුණේ මේ මගේ රටනේ කියන හැඟීම විතරයි.. ඉතින් අපි ටෙරාලා කොච්චර ගැහුවත් පස්‌සට යන්නේ නැතුව සටන් කළා..”
ඒ වචන කිහිපය පිට කිරීමත් සමග මා දෙස මොහොතක්‌ නිහඬව බලා සිටි සාජන් මේජර් සුනිල් රත්නායක ගැඹුරු හුස්‌මක්‌ ගෙන දිගු සුසුමක්‌ පිට කළා දැනුදු මට මතකය. ඇතැම්විට එදා මරණය අතට ගෙන රට වෙනුවෙන් සතුරා ඉදිරියේ සිටගත් තමන් වෙත මෙදා දඬුවමක්‌ ලෙස මරණය ළඟා වීමේ වේදනාව සුනිල් එසේ පිට කළා විය හැකිය.
සුනිල් රත්නායක හමුදාවට එක්‌ වනුයේ යාපනය අර්ධද්වීපය එල්ටීටීඊ ත්‍රස්‌තවාදීන්ගෙන් මුදා ගැනීම සඳහා චන්ද්‍රිකා බණ්‌ඩාරනායක රජය 1995 වසරේ “රිවිරැස” 1-2 මෙහෙයුම් ක්‍රියාත්මක කළ කාලයේදීය. ඒ හේතුවෙන් එකී මෙහෙයුම්වලටද සිය දායකත්වය දෙමින් අභීත විරුවකු සේ ක්‍රියාත්මක වන්නටද ඔහුට වාසනාව හිමි විය.
“ඔව් මම “රිවිරැස” 1-2 මෙහෙයුම්වලටත් සහභාගි වුණා.. පස්‌සේ 1997 ආරම්භ වුණු “ජයසිකුරු” 1-2 මෙහෙයුම්වලදීත් සටන් කළා.. ඒ වෙනකොට මම යුද හමුදා හයවන ගජබා රෙජිමේන්තුවේ සෙබළකු විදිහටයි රාජකාරි කළේa.. පස්‌සේ මාව යුද හමුදා විශේෂ බළකායට අනුයුක්‌ත කළා..
“මේ දවස්‌වල තමයි එල්ටීටීඊය අලිමංකඩ ප්‍රහාරය එල්ල කළේ.. ඒ අතරේ අපේ කණ්‌ඩායමක්‌ වලිකාමම් මුදා ගැනීමේ මෙහෙයුමට සම්බන්ධ වෙලා හිටියේ.. අපි වලිකාමම් ජයගත්තා.. එහෙම ඉන්න අතරේ 2000 වසරේ මුලදී මට මාන්කුලම්වලදී එල්ටීටීඊයේ මෝටාර් ප්‍රහාරයක්‌ වැදුණා.. ඒකෙන් මාත් එක්‌ක හිටපු රණවිරුවන් ගණනාවක්‌ මිය ගියා..
ඒ බව මම දැනගත්තේ දවස්‌ ගණනාවකට පස්‌සේ.. මෝටාර් ප්‍රහාරයෙන් මට සිහි නැතුව ගියා විතරයි මතක.. මට බරපතළ විදිහට තුවාල වෙලා ප්‍රතිකාර කරන්න කොළඹට ගෙනත් තිබුණා.. දවස්‌ ගණනාවකට පස්‌සේ කොළඹ මහ රෝහලේදී තමයි මට සිහිය ආවේ..
පස්‌සේ මාසයක්‌ විතර රෝහලේ ඉඳලා සනීප වෙලා මම මහියංගනේ ගෙදරට ගියා.. අම්මයි, තාත්තයි හොඳටම ඇඬුවා.. තුවාල වුණාට පස්‌සේ මට හමුදාවෙන් දවස්‌ දාහතරක නිවාඩුවක්‌ දුන්නා.. නිවාඩුව ඉවර වෙලා ඕනෙනම් මට හමුදාවේ සාමාන්‍ය රාජකාරිවලට සම්බන්ධ වෙන්නත් අවස්‌ථාව තිබුණා.. මොකද මගේ ඔලුවට ගොඩක්‌ තුවාල වෙලා තිබුණේ..
ඒත් නිවාඩුව ඉවර වෙලා මම ආයෙත් පුලියන්කුලම කෑම්ප් එකට ගිහින් රාජකාරියට වාර්තා කළා.. මම ගෙදරින් එනකොට අම්මා මාව බදාගෙන ඇඬවා.. පස්‌සේ උඹට තුනුරුවන්ගේ පිහිටයි කියලා මට යන්න දුන්නා..
එහෙම ඇවිත් දවස්‌ දෙකකට පස්‌සේ පුලියන්කුලමෙන් චාවකච්ෙච්රි ගියා.. ඒ වෙනකොට චාවකච්ෙච්රි ප්‍රදේශයේ සටන් ඇවිළිලා.. ටෙරාල අපිට ඇටෑක්‌ කරනවා.. ආයෙත් ඉතින් ගේමට බැස්‌සා.. චාවකච්ෙච්රියේ ඉඳන් නගර්කොවිල් පාර දිගේ අපි ටෙරාලට ගගහා මිරුසුවිල්වලට ඇවිත් මිරුසුවිල් ඇල්ලුවා.. ඒ 2000 අවුරුද්දේ අන්තිම කාලේ..
ඔය අතරේ තමයි මේ කියන සිද්ධිය වුණේ.. මිරුසුවිල් ඇල්ලුවට පස්‌සේ අපි අපේ ඩිෙµaන්ස්‌ ලයින් එක හදා ගත්තා.. ලයින් එකෙන් මීටර් සීයක්‌ විතර එහායින් ටෙරාල හිටියේ.. සැරින් සැරේ උන් ඇටෑක්‌ කරනවා.. අපිත් කොහොම හරි අල්ලගෙන හිටියා..
මිරුසුවිල් ටවුන් එරියා එකේ ඉඳන් ගොඩක්‌ දුරට යනකම් සම්පූර්ණ ප්‍රදේශය අපේ අතේ තිබුණේ.. ටවුන් එක කිව්වට ඒක අපි හිතන විදිහේ ටවුන් එකක්‌ නෙමේ.. ගරා වැටුණු ප්‍රදේශයක්‌.. මිනිස්‌සු කවුරුවත් නැහැ..
හමුදාව විතරයි හිටියේ.. ඉස්‌සරහින් තිබුණේ කැලේ..
“මෙහෙම අපි මිරුසුවිල් අල්ලගෙන ඉන්න අතරේ දවසක්‌ අපේ ඩිෙµaන්ස්‌ ලයින් එකෙන් අපි හිටිය පැත්තට ආපු මිනිස්‌සු කට්‌ටියක්‌ හමුදාවට අහුවෙලා තිබුණා.. කැලේ හැම තැනම ටෙරාලා ආයුධ හංගලා තිබ්බා.. ඒ දවස්‌වල සමහර වෙලාවට අපි ඉස්‌සරහට ගිහින් ටෙරාලට ගහනකොට හොරෙන් අපේ ලයින් එකෙන් ඇතුළට ඇවිත් හැංගිලා හිටිය කොටි හංගලා තිබුණ ආයුධ අරගෙන පිටිපස්‌සෙන් අපිට ඇටෑක්‌ කරනවා..
“එහෙම පහර දීලා උන් පැනගන්නවා.. ඒ වගේ ප්‍රහාරවලින් යුද්දෙදී හමුදා සෙබළුන් දහදොළොස්‌ දෙනා එකපාර මියගියා.. ඒක අපිට හිසරදයක්‌ වෙලා තිබුණේ.. ඒ වගේ තත්ත්වයක්‌ තියෙද්දී තමයි මිරුසුවිල්වලදී මේ මිනිස්‌සු ටික හමුදාවට අහුවෙන්නේ..
“අද සමහරු කියන්නේ උන් ආවේ දර කඩන්න කියලා.. මට ඒ හැමෝගෙන්ම අහන්න තියෙන්නේ එකම එක කතාවයි.. ඒ යුද්දේ කාලේ ඕමන්තෙන් එහාට දර කඩන්න කැලේට ගිය කවුරු හරි ඉන්නවද කියන එක විතරයි.. ඕමන්තෙන් එහාට එදා කවුරු හරි ගියානම් ඒ ගියේ එල්ටීටීඊ එකට ගහන්න.. සටන් කරන්න.. එහෙම නැතුව කිසිම මිනිහෙක්‌ ඒ දවස්‌වල දර කඩන්න කොටින්ගේ ඒරියා එකට ගියේ නැහැ..” ඒ වගේම තමයි උන්ගේ කවුරුවත් දර කඩන්න හමුදාdව ඉන්න තැන්වලට ආවෙත් නැහැ.. උන් ආවේ අපිව මරන්න..
ඔහු කියන ඒ කතාව තර්කානුකූලය. කිසිවකුත් එදා දර කඩන්නට එල්ටීටීඊ ත්‍රස්‌තයන් රැඳී සිටි ප්‍රදේශයකට ගියේ නැත.. නිකමට හෝ ගියේ නම් පණපිටින් එන්නට ලැබෙන්නේද නැත.

Well said. The enemies will do their best to destroy us, this woman is the ideal pawn for it. All what we heard in the last few years was the robberies done by Rajapakse’s. After being in power for almost a year, nothing has gone to courts. The true Lanka lovers should identify the traitors and rally round the patriots. It will be a hard task to get rid of the cancer, but it has to be done.

On Saturday 13th there was an unprecedented gathering at Madihe
Pannaseeha Mahanayake Thero’s cremation. All over the country there
were yellow flags on house tops, three wheelers, cars, busses and
across the roads. This was of course a tribute to the monk. But it was
more than that. It was a reflection of Buddhists rallying against a
nearly twenty year campaign to denigrate and marginalize Buddhists and
Sinhalese. The funerals of equally significant monks Walpola Rahula
and Ananda Maithriya Nayake Theros did not arouse such deep reaction.
If they passed away today, they indeed would. The mood is such.
There is a growing Buddhist defiance in the country today especially
against the Christian political structure that rules the country
today. This includes both the President’s and Prime Minister’s
factions. Significantly both of them, President and Prime Minister –
symbols of the Christian hold – were absent from the cremation
ceremony. The 7% Christians today rule over the 93% Buddhists, Hindus
and Muslims. It is they, who support separatism and have covertly set
the other communities against each other. It is they who fall over
each other to invite Norwegians and others to rule over us.
Who rules us? All the key places in the Sri Lankan government are
held by the 7% Christians. Please read the bare facts. President
Chandrika Kumaratunge’s husband was a Catholic and her children are
widely believed to be baptized. Her grandfather Solomon was the
leading Christian in the country then. She shows no concern for
Buddhism. She dissolved the Buddhist Monks’Advisory body.
The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe is an Anglican Christian. His
father was an Anglican Christian and his father’s elder brother,
Bishop Laxhman Wickremasinghe was actually the head of the Anglican
Church. Prime Minister’s brother owns the TV station TNL which
broadcasts in all three languages on Sundays the most fundamentalist
Christian programme. This TV station allows the Catholic missionary
Lalith Kotelawala to change Buddhists’ minds away from Buddhism.
The Interior Minister John Amaratunga is a Catholic. He is also the
Minister of Christian Affairs. Sri Lanka is the only country in the
world where the Minister of Christian Affairs holds the key post of
the Interior Minister. Even before he became Minister, Amaratunga
sponsored the entry of many of fundamentalist Christian organizations
into Sri Lanka to convert the Buddhists. In December, as the Interior
Minister, he ordered the Police to light up all the streets in Sri
Lanka for one month. The Police compelled Buddhist businessmen to
light their buildings for one month for Christmas. Before this, by
government order, lighting for Vesak celebrations in May were limited
to three days.
The Foreign Minister Tyrone Fernando is an Anglican Christian. It has
been reported that Fernando has replaced many Buddhists in the Sri
Lankan embassies in other countries with Christian staff. The Defense
Minister Tilak Marapona, born a Buddhist, married a Catholic. His
children are believed to be baptized, and are Christians. His
Secretary for the Ministry, Austin Fernando is a God fearing Catholic.
Defense of the country is once again in Christian hands. The Trade and
Commerce Minister Ravi Karunanayake is an Anglican Christian. The
Ethnic Affairs and Rehabilitation Minister, Jayalath Jayawardene is a
Catholic. The Economic Reforms and Science Minister, Milinda
Moragoda’s father was a good Christian. Moragoda is married to an
American Catholic. The Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Johnston

Your comment relates to 2003 when ven Madihe Pannaseeha Mahanayake Thero’s cremation took place. It relates to the UNP cabinet at that time not today.
Today MOST ministers are Buddhists.

To protect Buddhism it has to be made the STATE RELIGION.
We had 15 prime ministers (MOST of them Buddhists) and 6 presidents (ALL of them Buddhists) since 1948 but NO ONE had the guts to make BUDDHISM THE STATE RELIGION.
That is the problem.

SL is the ONLY COUNTRY Buddha visited by choice.
Not once but 3 times.
Jesus, Mohammad or Krishna didn’t visit SL. The only other “gods” to visit SL from outside are Raman and Hanuman who destroyed SL!!

70% of SLs follow Buddhism.
These reasons make it COMPULSORY to make it the state religion. But politicians are mode concerned about BRINGING THE POPE, VISITING THIRUPATHI BEFORE ELECTIONS and even trying to GIVE A FREE TRIP TO MECCA TO POOR MUSLIMS.
Some Buddhists have REJECTED KALAMA SUTRA and started to worship these POLITICIANS.

Gentle Philosophy of Buddhism can survive only in isolation ?
When there is high competition regarding jobs, education, money, marriage, travel, upward social mobility from the aggressive others, can Buddhism survive even if it is the State religion ?

Buddhism is not an animal or a human to survive.
Buddhism is “the path” to cessation of suffering. It is like technology or electricity. It always exist, eternal, no need of a Buddha. When that path is not visible to public, it is called “dark era”.
Question that should be asked “Can the Sinhalese survive without Buddhism?”. Or, better still “Can Sri Lanka survive without Buddhism ?” or even “will Sri Lanka be better off without Buddhism ?”
There are more Buddhists in other parts of the world than in Sri Lanka. Buddhism is the fastest growing religion in Australia and possibly in USA too.

CBK stopped the teaching of Sinhala history in schools when she was in power. When she removed the teaching of Sri Lankan history to children the Sinhala kids have no idea of their 2600 year old history. She is a greedy woman who is supposed to have played out money in the Waters Edge land deal and is supposed to have pocketed the insurance money from the 11 Sri Lanka air lines planes which were destroyed by LTTE.

I am sure she is behind the suggestion to stop teaching Buddhism. In USA Christian theology is used so much that in some states they do not teach Evolutionary theory and teach children that the world was created 5000 years ago which is utter nonsense in line with biblical teaching.
The Chaura Rajini used even the death of her husband for political gain by accusing UNP of the crime. The one eyed bandit queen is bad luck for all right thinking people of Sri Lanka. She as a patron of the SLFP should NOT be batting for a UNP candidate. It is an act of treachery. She must immediately resign from the SLFP party or be removed. She is as bad as MY3 who left the party, ran for President then after he won became leader of SLFP but is batting for Ranil W and the UNP. What a pair!
CBK’S destroyed the Sinhalese, some of it quite inadvertently. First her father SWRD brought in Sinhala Language Act (1956) to make Sinhalese the Official language overnight. It was not a bad thing on the surface of things. But what it did was it gave Tamils and even Muslims freedom to choose the language of education while the Sinhalese HAD TO study all subjects in the Sinhala language. This would have been somewhat acceptable if there had been a great deal of preparation and entire libraries of translation done in many subjects into Sinhala language and new research made possible using the Sinhala language. But that was not so. It was Sinhala overnight, almost. People had no time to adapt to the new situation, both Sinhala people and others.
As a result our people, the Sinhalese, got handicapped. What made matters worse was that he then made Tamil a National language in 1958. Our children should have got a good grounding in Sinhala language with a strong knowledge of English also, so that they had access to the world of commerce and business. She removed the teaching of Sri Lankan history to children as a result the Sinhala kids have no idea of their 2600 year old history.
When SWRD was assassinated by Somarama, his wife became Prime Minister and she made matters worse. With all the Marxist academics as her advisors such as NM Perera she brought the Land Reform Act (1972 ) which decimated the Sinhala land owners. Traditionally Sinhalese were not traders. They were mainly farmers and landowners. There was a good relationship between the villagers and the land owners with land owners looking after the villagers and vice versa. Many of the Sinhala landowners lost all they had and some of them committed suicide. It takes a long time to develop plantation estates and many of them had inherited the estates from their ancestors and had put in a lot of effort and money to develop them. The emotional attachments to their land and connections to the villagers were removed overnight. Overnight it was all taken away. The landowners no longer could support the villagers.
Net result was that the village youth felt unsupported and decided to revolt. The JVP launched a military type attack to take over power by force. Mrs. SWRD Bandaranaiyake should have at this point invited them for a discussion to look into their grievances. Instead she ordered the Military to kill JVP. The military and police were merciless. More than 60,000 Sinhala youth are estimated to have been killed. Many were completely innocent youth who were just rounded up by Military and asked to dig pits and then shot so that they fell into the pits which were covered up. The UNP came into power with Premadasa as President and he did the same. Ranil W was put in charge of the youth. He did not help the youth but set up Batalanda where either with his knowledge or without his knowledge JVP people were tortured and killed. Then when SLFP came into power and CBK became President with Ranil W as Prime Minister they bungled the entire military operations against the LTTE. She appointed her uncle as Minister for Defence and her nephew Rohan Daluwatte as the Military commander. This man had no military experience and would run off to see Sai Baba whenever there was trouble. She kept the war with LTTE dragging on and thousands of our Sinhala soldiers were brutally killed by LTTE. She had a preset idea that it was not possible to beat the LTTE along with Ranil W. Ranil W kept trying to hand over the North and East to appease Prabahakaran. She is so full of hatred and anger that it distorts her face where she looks like a Yakshani when she talks about MR. She may be harboring anger towards Sinhalese since her father and her husband were killed by Sinhalese. The Bandaranaiyake family has been a blot on the Sinhala people. It is a curse we have had to suffer for so long. Even now long after the election she is still speaking ill of President Mahinda Rajapakse even though he never utters a word against her.

We think that there will be no great identity for Lanka without Buddhism. Survival is possible without ANY religion, anywhere. But how very empty and fearful it would be as death is certain and without a Teacher/Guide (Buddha, Jesus, and other Teachers) to comfort us about that inevitable event, life would be rather unbearable. The process of Evolution of Mankind has brought to us from time to time, Great Teachers who give meaning and purpose to Life on Earth.
The Teacher/Guide also shows us how best to live a fulfilling life with no harm to others. If we fail to do so, the failure is
ours and not that of the Teacher/Guide. ‘Dark Eras’ happen when Ignorance overrides Knowledge (Knowledge of the Self).

Nanda is correct. Buddhism does NOT need SL.
Actually some in USA (notably some Jews) practice a purer form of Buddhims NOT POLLUTED BY HINDUISM.
But SL needs Buddhism.
1. IF SL became an ISLAMIC country, Endia will destroy it as Endia simply cannot tolerate another Isalmic neighbor.
2. IF SL became a HINDU country, China, USA and Pakistan will destroy it. They cannot have an extension of HINDUSTAN.
3. IF SL became a CHRISTIAN country, Endia and China will consider it a US PAWN and destroy it.
So SL has to remain a Buddhist country.

VIJAYA was a strong anti-SL uneducated actor.
Like Tamil Madu people BUT to a lesser extent, SL people were FOOLED by his acting career.
He used his popularity to the detriment of SL.
1. In early 1980s VIJAYA met LTTE leaders and made a LTTE PROPAGANDA FILM. IF you watch that you will be convinced SL could NOT defeat the LTTE.
2. Against all others, he told everyone there is a POLTIICAL SOLUTION.
3. Vijaya and his wife were the ONLY idiots to support the Endia-SL peace treaty (apart from Endian JR and Endian Ronnie).
4. VIJAYA was sent to jail for having connections with NUXELITTE south Endian terrorists.
WHY?
SL film industry was DOMINATED by Tamils!!! These Tamils worshipped Tamil Madu film stars MOST IMPORTANTLY MGR. Truth to be told these Tamils DID NOT support LTTE. They were AGAINST the LTTE. But their worship of MGR was used by TULF crowd to get their support.
At that time TV was only developing and FILMS were the MOST POPULAR audio visual (MOST POWERFUL) media. Tamils ruled it so they could frame Singhala people’s opinion. Today Maharajah are doing the same thing.
They helped Vijaya at an early stage by giving him acting roles. That made him PERMANANTLY INDEBTED to Tamils.
IF Vijaya was NOT put out of business in 1988 SL could have ended up in deep trouble. A GOOD and KIND HEARTED MAND no doubt but with seriously TWISTED political views against SINGHALESE.
LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING.

The problems of Buddhist countries in the SE Asian region go beyond political personalities.
The SE Asian tragedy was that all the Buddhist countries (except Thailand which still has a royal family for stability, as far as I know), in the region went with Communism.
Since both Russia & China are the regional giants that went with Communism, the smaller countries fell in line with that. The ideas in Communism appealed to the poverty stricken masses of the SE Asian region.
The same thing happened in Christian East European countries. India’s poverty ridden masses are also drawn to Communism, though their Hindu politics draws the vote to Hindu political parties and also toward parties perceived as progressive.
It is not the fault of the Teachings of Buddha or Christ, or the mass thinking moving away from poverty through extreme methods. It is unequal distribution of wealth. Socialism is the best way to ensure some fairplay in the distribution of wealth.
Going with Fascism or Communism are now accepted as extreme. Socialism is the middle way and so far the best method to ensure delivery of goods and services in a fair manner. Europe, after two World Wars, has settled into Socialist states.
It is far kinder to give FREE birth control material to any adults who needs them, to contain huge population growth, rather than have wars and diseases to remove vast numbers.
True Buddhism & true Christianity can co-exist in any Socialist country.
