COLOMBO: Indian Foreign Secretary Dr S Jaishankar told the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R.Sampanthan here on Wednesday, that India would like Sri Lanka to build on what has already been achieved in the area of devolution of power when it drafts its new constitution.
Jaishankar was alluding to the devolution package contained in the 13 th. Constitutional Amendment which was inspired by the India-Sri Lanka Accord of 1987.
Sampanthan, who had breakfast with Jaishankar, told Express that that during the free and frank” exchange of views on the recent political developments in Lanka, the Indian Foreign Secretary recalled the steps already taken in the direction of devolving power to the provinces, and suggested that Lanka should build on this rather than start from scratch.
Jaishankar was keen to know about the government’s bid to re-write the Sri Lankan constitution and the process being adopted to turn the present parliament into a Constitutional Assembly for that purpose.
It was a useful conversation,” Sampanthan said

Whilst Indian VIPs encourage SEPARATISM in Lanka, Tamils of Sri Lanka will NEVER KNOW PEACE !
*. Is this how breakaway Tamil Nadu is being punished by India ?
*. Is this how Lanka is being punished by India for going pro-west during Cold War times (JR times) ?
Sri Lanka’s Tamils will know a lasting peace only when they feel a true BELONING with the rest of the Others in Lanka. As long as they are in breakaway mode, they will never know peace or true belonging, and therefore happiness and a sense of security.
Sri Lanka’s Tamil leaders have thus far misled the Tamils of Lanka.
Time to re-think strategy for a lasting peace for Tamils. Time to psychologically breakaway from INDIA. Time to co-operate with India only on life supportive strategies such as Green Energy/Renewable Energy re Climate Change, security on the high seas, safe and offered cost free family planning/birth control methods, etc. etc.

Kumar,
How do Tamil folks who have gone abroad from Lanka as Refugees (after trumped up 1983 Riots) live in those strange lands, far away from Tamil Nadu ?
Tamil folk in Lanka have “bitten the hand that fed them” ! Lanka has been ‘bitten’ after showering Tamils with lots of favors and welcome mats …..

Every year thousands of Tamils come to Sri Lanka illegally. Indian politicians must ask themselves why so many “Kallathonies” come to Sri Lanka. The obvious reason is Sri Lanka is a heaven compared to the huge cess pit India is. Those crooked and stupid pollies in India should think of the millions of Indians living those un human conditions there and stop shedding crocodile tears about the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
