   Although it is a great speech, Wimal got his explanation wrong.

   In his given example, the family will pay 1,100 rupees in VAT now and 1,500 rupees in VAT under increased VAT. The increase is 1,500 / 1,100 = 36% increase or 40% as he said. His charge is correct, VAT paid will increase by 40% but his explanation is not clear.

   %15 now increased from 11% is 4/11 = 0.363 or 36% or approximately 40% increase in tax, he is right.
   Money paid to UNP via Mahendran has to be taken back from people. Very “clean” way of cheating.

   Dilrook,

   I don’t see why Wimal’s explanation is unclear.

   To me, his explanation is crystal clear and correct, within 4%, which is which is good enough for govt work!

   As Gonsal pointed out, the % VAT increase in Wimal’s example is 100×(1500 – 1100)/1100 = 36.4, or approximately 40%, just as Wimal said.

   I understand what Dilrook is saying. He was trying to use “yearly pay ” method to make the numbers bigger !

   In the end he could not put the message properly , as he was (scared of numbers ?) refering to a piece of paper to make sure he doesn’t make a mistake. What he was saying is a family with Rs 10000 Rs income per month has to pay additional Rs. 4800 per year ( why did’t he use 10 years ?) , which is correct. But even the man next to him was confused and made the confusion bigger. UNP Pal Horu are saying 4% increase in VAT which is WRONG AND CHEATING !
   He should have simply said VAT has increased by almost 40 % which is 10 fold the number UNP Pal Horu are saying
