I plead Sri Lankan nationalists to carefully read what this says in the context. It is very important as the nation faces grave threats.
Why did they wait till those sub committees produced 6 reports and even came up with a draft new constitution to resign? Now it is too late. The draft constitution is ready and the reports are out. The damage is done. Even the little consolation one may have is lost as they only say they have decided to leave these sub committees (even when it is too late). In other words, they have not yet left even at this stage!
They should have resigned initially. Then the sub committees would not have validity. These people are just fooling the people. One should not be surprised at all. In the panel are 3 well known hardcore federalists – GL Pieris, Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Tissa Vitharana. Dayan is missing.
Dilrook, No stop being desperate. I also did not understand why they the JO joined these committees in the first place. But on second thought they atleast made their opposition heard even if the reports did not include their proposals. Nothing is too late. This is the only valid opposition we have in the parliament and if we discourage them, under value the role the play there wouldn’t be any opposition to distructive force of Yahapalanaya. The Yahapalanaya is able to steamroller all opposition to them. Only possibility to stop this disaster is to get Maithripala Sirisena to open his eyes and make him get rid of CBK, Ranil Mangala and Ravi etc. How can this be done ? This is what we have to think out.
The JO is not going anywhere with federalists like GL Pieris, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Tissa Vitharana and Dayan.
Should we support all follies of the JO and put up with federalists in it? I don’t think so. Even if we do, a majority of Sinhala voters will not at the next election. I’m at a loss to understand why some Sinhala voters continue to vote for parties (including UNP) that have influential federalists in them. If we want a unitary country, we cannot have federalists in parties that scream to protect unitary Sri Lanka.
Dilrook we have nothing else to do we have to support the JO. These Federalists as you call them are not dangerous. They are the only ones we have against the destructive gang of Yahapalanaya goons. Please understand and be with them for the sake of Sri Lanka.
Most MPs and others in the JO are not federalists. But the 4 I mentioned are. They have to remove these federalists. Otherwise people will reject them. There is no compromise. It is not just what I think. This is how people look at it.
How can the JO blame the government for federalism when there are 4 top federalists among them? Voters will not change. They are the kingmakers. JO should change. These 4 carry no votes. They are outdated and unable to win voters’ confidence. The JO has nothing to lose by dropping them.
No Dilrook, please, we cannot afford to get rid of any one in the JO or any one sympathetic to JO. Numbers are already reduced we can settle issues of federalism later but inorder to get rid of the menace of Yahapalanaya we have to protect everyone staying arround us and keep them all together. Even Karuna Amman with his new Political Party would be an asset.
Lets say we all support the JO. Does that mean people will do same? No. People are very sharp on these, especially the youth. It is a problem of credibility. On one hand the JO condemns (further) federalisation of the nation but on the other they harbour federalists. It is a severe blow to credibility.
When it comes to crunch time in the unitary verses federal battle JVP will gain. There is a huge opportunity for a nationalist party to come up and exploit this vacuum. A party that stands for unitary status without compromise can win at least 5% of the national vote.
