HELPING THE AFFECTED SANS PUBLICITY

While the Sinhala Buddhists, the members of Sangha, the saffron robe and even the tenets of Buddhism were subjected to indiscriminate vilification by some sections of the print and electronic media as well as many writers and public speakers in reference to the recent communal disturbances, we can report that many Buddhist temples in Kandy district acted responsibly to help the affected Muslim civilians.
The Buddhist temple in Gonigoda, Muruthalawa, Kurugama. Dehiamga and Nellogolla handled an excellent program to look after the welfare of the needy. The members of the Sangha , Ven Ganegoda Sri Jinalankara, Wartrukumbure Dhammartana theros played an examamplery roles in establishing links with the Islamic institutions by opening the doors of compassion . Nayaka theros of main Buddhist institutions made public appeals for peace and harmony among all.
It has to be accepted that the fringe groups of both ethnicities worked extra hard to cause the tensions before and during the troubled times. To generalize and target the Sinhala Buddhists and their value systems by painting them as villains of the deepest dye cannot be justified when considering the religious tolerance etc enjoyed by all Sri Lankans compared to what is prevailing in many countries in the developing world.

There is no country in the world where minorities enjoy all the rights and privileges, like in Sri Lanka.
Even so called freedom loving, HR’s boasting, democratic countries like US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc., don’t respect or treat the minorities the way SL does, though these hypocritical countries are the first to criticize countries like SL.

Very well stated Ranjith. It is always Sinhala Buddhists when there is a problem but anything good it is the Sri Lankans not the Buddhists. People forget that there are Sinhala Christians also in Sri Lanka much more than Tamil Christians.
Why is that no one talks about all the racial/religious discriminations and carrying out illegal things by the Muslims in Sri Lanka. Tamils respect the law of the country. Why don’t people go to Gampola and see how Muslims have built a Mosque over the public road (Babile Road) making the Sinhalese and Buddhist monks to walk under these Allah’s men’s feet. If Sinhalese did that what would be the reaction from the Muslims and the whole world. It is the law of the country that no one can fill the paddy fields or built anything on that. It is only the Muslims have filled all the paddy fields in Gampola and building houses. Who is stopping that or talk about it. These discrimination acts create hatred and later violence when Sinhalese can’t get what Muslims are getting. Tamil people are very law abiding respectful people compared to the Muslims. Tamils treat and support Sri Lanka as Sinhalese but only very Muslims do that. Their am is to make Sri Lanka also a Muslim country as they have done to many other countries in the world. Moors and Javanese Islamic people are so different to those “Muslims” who blinded and brain washed by these extreme Islamic 15+ verses which says to hate non-believers either misinterpreted or translated into other languages including English incorrectly. I have the English version of the Koran given to me by a Muslim friend.

No point keeping on blaming Muslims, LTTE, USA, UK etc.
How on this earth a mosque can be build over a public road ? Whose fault is the lawlesness ?
Was there a governement when they built it ? Was it UNP governement ?
Muslims are going on doing business whilst greedy of their votes, Sinhala politicans DO NOT CARE.
When a foriegn country donate money, Sri Lnaka should accept it only if no racially biased conditioned attached to it. Should not accept a cent to build Muslim colonies or Tamil only aid.
