It is true King Parakramabahu the Great imposed very high taxes. But that was to upkeep a world class irrigation system and to support the war effort in Burma and South India against Tamil Cholas.

But he didn’t allow anyone to rob state coffers, waste taxpayers’ funds on the enemy and waste it by ridiculous means.

If someone else were in power, it could have been even higher production.
King Parakramabau did not sign ceasefire agreements with Tamil Cholas.
He did not visit Thirupathy or seek blessing from Pope.

Our para kings made our people work for nothing, only the kings’ henchmen had the privileges like the boot lickers of our dirty politicians.
Those scoundrels had a good life for themselves and the innocent people not even had a privilege of a public toilet until the colonials came where they put toilets, schools, court houses ,hospitals, etc etc, Sadly we are on the way to those dark ages, bond scandals is a stark reminder which could be the beginning of our end, the good and orderly life left behind by the last colonials.
