Dear Friends,

ජිනීවාවල මොකද වෙන්නේ? -විදේශ ඇමති පැහැදිලි කරයි

GO TO INFOLANKA AND LISTEN TO THIS 90-MINUTE MEDIA CONFERENCE IN GENEVA – I know you are very much interested, so, have patience and listen to this.

Socrates once said: The only wisdom is in knowing you know nothing”. What does Socrates mean when he said this: Socrates was considered by many to be the wisest man in ancient Greece, his spoken words are still listened to and followed today. Meaning of – An unexamined life is not worth living. Through this statement, Socrates means that an unexamined human life is deprived of the meaning and purpose of existence.

Then, I’ll quote you what former U.S. Defense Secretary – America’s minister of defense – said, and refer to the last expression in the last two lines:

 There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don’t know we don’t know”.

I quote the above because – listening to this 90-minute media event – I strongly felt (1) Foreign Minister Ali Sabri ‘did not know what he did not know’ (2) Still with all these years – past two decades – Sri Lanka does not know how to combat global misinformation/misinterpretations unleashed by both the Western Powers and separatist elements within the Tamil Diaspora (3) How Sri Lanka – insinuated by Foreign Minister Sabri – is damn scared of the United States and other Western powers to tell the truth while saying that the US and other Western Powers are still ignorant of  the ground situation in Sri Lanka (4) Sabri told at this media event – referring to the Prevention of Terrorism Act – that the U.S. too has a similar one – the PATRIOT ACT – but has not done his homework to examine and study the obnoxious elements of the PATRIOT ACT because the feeling one get is that Sri Lanka is damn scared of these Western Powers, especially the U.S.

PLEASE HAVE PATIENCE TO LISTEN TO THIS.

Dilrook Says;

Sabry is being reasonable. He was the minister of justice, finance and foreign affairs within a very short time and it seems he understands how they are all inter-related. Well done!

UNHRC resolutions are only symbolic. So no use harming trade and other interests over them. Countries that vote against SL are SL’s most important export partners, top tourism dollar sources and largest weapons suppliers/donors. They also hold key votes in IMF decisions.

UNHRC is driven by geopolitical interests, not human rights or humanitarian concerns. If not for this, they will find another excuse to bash SL.

This is just a bi-annual distraction. SL should not change anything. Nothing happens even if SL doesn’t deliver on these resolutions.

If they are serious, they will pass a resolution at the UN Security Council. They cannot because China will veto it. Until then SL should do nothing. Go for the circus and drop the matter.
