SECURITY FORCES FOIL PLOT TO KILL SRI LANKA’S SUSPENDED POLICE CHIEF

Security forces have reportedly uncovered a plot to assassinate Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.

Security officials have informed IGP Tennakoon about the threat, with initial reports suggesting that the assassination plot is being orchestrated by an organised crime figure and international drug trafficker Kanjipani Imran.

During his tenure as IGP, Deshabandu Tennakoon spearheaded a special program aimed at eradicating drug trafficking in Sri Lanka.

However, due to ongoing legal proceedings, he is currently suspended from his duties as the IGP.

Tennakoon was previously held in remand prison for nearly a month in connection with a shooting incident near a Weligama hotel, but was released on bail by the court on April 10.
