AND THE WINNER IS…!!!

Mahinda Weerasinghe

Now I have to respect for His Excellency Mr President Maithripala Sirisena. Indeed he took the bull by the Horn when he stood up to challenge the status quo! What is more, if he lost the election he; would have to face the music all alone; just as the good General had to do after the last election!

All his so call friends and Hangers on would have melted away like the early morning dew if he had lost!

What is more vital, there are no lingering corruption accusations which have touched him as far as I know!

In fact I am happy concerning Sarath Foneska and Champika Ranavka getting their place in the Sun.
But it is that fellow filling The Prime Minister’s shoes which is hard for us to figure out!

While hanging on to the coat tail as Leader of the opposition” Ranil Wickramasinghe effortlessly grabbed the post of Prime Minister!

Here are some of the howlers he dropped along the trail in his bid to grab for power!

It is only denizens with Alzheimer who can forget his classic uttering such as when Thoppiagala fell Ranil, exclaimed that it was; ‘a useless exercise as (Thoppiagala) had only a singular function, a place for collection of firewood.’

Indeed after the army cleared the Eastern Province of LTTE terrorists, UNP leader publicly ridiculed the capture of Thoppigala by claiming that it was a jungle area with no strategic importance. He even questioned the map reading skills of the ground commander in the East, who had pooh-poohed his claim.

While the army was taking the battle into the heartland of LTTE terrorism and in the process losing, men and resources, and battling, as it is, in an extremely hostile terrain, UNP spokesman Lakshman Kiriella proclaimed at a media briefing in Colombo that any fool could wage a war. UNP MP and the then current Party Organiser Ravi Karunanayake ridiculed such victories in Parliament. He asserted that the army had lost its bearings and was moving in the direction of Medawachchi instead of Kilinochchi and claimed that the army had mistaken Pamankada for Alimankada (Elephant Pass). It was also at the height of war that the Chief Opposition Whip at that time Joseph Michael Perera (UNP) accused the then Army Commander Gen. Sarath Fonseka of having set up a special army unit under his personal supervision to attack journalists!

In other words according to this coterie of Christian UNP leadership; the terrorist groups should be allowed to run these ‘fire wood collecting’ places as these patches were not good enough to be included as a part of mother Lanka. It goes to show therewith that, Ranil was not a simple bonehead; here he surpassed his own level of imbecility.

In his 2005Mahaweera Day speech, the terror boss Vellupillai
depicted Ranil Wickramasinghe as a calculating fox who tried to deceive everyone by entering into a ceasefire agreement with LTTE.

Which would mean that Vellupilla was a bigger donkey than Ranil Wickramasinghe, for by his very declaration he acknowledged his own lapses of rational analysis? Indeed by allowing an imbecile like Ranil to take him for a right royal ride he was the bigger of the two idiots. This goes only to prove one thing and that is Velluupillai was only good at butchering innocent defenceless civilians, but had lost his marbles at that point of history!

Ranil assertion that Thoppigala as being useless, was bizarre, considering that when he signed a MoU with the SLFP, Ranil claimed that under the Wijetunga-Wickremesinghe regime, Thoppigala was captured by the security forces.

Such conflicting and contradictory information is confusing for any normal mortal; but we have to assume that what he meant probably is that: Thoppigala was strategically important at that point of history but now it was a place only useful to just collect ‘firewood’! If one accepts such an assessment then the statement can be digestible?

On the other side Vellupillai description of Ranil was a typical red herring. By his accusation of Ranil ‘as a calculating fox’ he thought Lankans would assume that Ranil was cleverer than MR and we should vote that imbecile in.

We notice that he came to power only by riding on  the piggy back of  HE Maithreepala’s or  he will never be able to see the inside of any government cabinet?

Now add to this gross comic posturing of the current PM, the then his Catholic Interior Minister MR John Amatunga’s, betrayal which led to the massacre of out patriotic snipers in millennium, a fact no self respecting national can ignore!

How Ranil the Prime Minister, who is a Christian can disguised as Buddhist, was hell-bent on making a grand celebration of 500 hundred years of landing and occupation by Catholics, as Prime Minister in 2003 is absurd in any nation but in Lanka !

It is time we eject this un-ejectable Ranil from his ‘opposition leader for life’ post, and give him a Judas kiss in order to get rid of him from his entrenched location!

Beat him and this clique in the next general election! This can be easily achieved by HE not attending any of the political rallies he appears in! In such a manner he will be able to distance himself from Ranil-Chandrika twoika! If he failed to do this he will receive the same fate as MR. Who kept Ranil the Opposition leader” as a patsy, and thought he had the situation under control!

It is time we had clean transparent and applicable laws and not who you know; to solve ones problems!  Indeed no question about it if HE accepts all crossovers, without discrimination, he would fall into the same trap and in time pay a similar price as MR?

In the meantime Lankans will be justifying that famous adage people deserve the leaders they get”!

“If that money had been brought into the country legally, they should have declared it to the CID,” Weerawansa said.

He said that though Maithripala Sririsena and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe asked for a police investigation against the agreement revealed by former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake alleging that it was a forged document, but they did not deny the points in the document.

Weerawansa challenged Sirisena’s camp to deny the agreement which was inimical to national security as it promised to dismantle high security zones and pull out troops from the North.

“Sirisena did not include a single word about national security, 13th amendment or giving land and police powers to the Northern Provincial Council in his manifesto,” Minister Weerawansa said, adding that his silence proved he had a secret pact with the pro-LTTE Tamil National Alliance.

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said Srisena had not made any pledge to protect free education in his manifesto.
