OPPORTUNE TIME FOR THE POPE TO SEEK FORGIVENESS

It would be a most opportune time and a gracious gesture on his part, if the Pope seeks forgiveness from the Buddhists and Hindus of Sri Lanka, for the widespread injustices and human rights violations and offences the Catholic church has committed in the distant and recent past in our motherland.
SRI LANKA : BRUTALITY OF CATHOLICS
The CATHOLIC PORTUGUESE with their gun powder and soldiers, brought in a reign of terror to Sri Lanka, our motherland. They resorted to ruthless torture and killing of local inhabitants, especially the Sinhala Buddhists, destroying and plundering their settlements, buildings and property, their shrines and places of learning, setting fire to libraries and thousands of ola manuscripts. Buddhist and Hindu shrines and religious edifices which had taken generations to build, renowned Buddhist education institutions and large monasteries were razed and their priceless treasures looted. All Buddhist temples and places of learning in the maritime areas under the Catholic Portuguese control were demolished.
The Portuguese Catholics plundered and destroyed the Citadel of Kotte, which was the administrative capital of the Sinhala Kings from 14th century. It was a fortified city known as Jayawardanapura Kotte, and by the 15th century during the reign of the famous Sinhala King Parakramabahu VI (1411-1467CE), it had expanded and developed to be a fabulous city. King Buwanekabahu’s five storied Royal palace and the seven storied palace called Kithsimewanpaya were demolished.
In 1575, the Portuguese Catholics set fire to the Historic Kelani Raja Maha Viharaya and destroyed it completely. It was the most important shrine and monastery complex of the island’s Buddhist community, who accounted for almost 99% of the population of the country. All lands that belonged to this Raja Maha Viharaya were taken over and given away to the Catholic Church by Portuguese Catholics. The Colombo fort was constructed with the stones of the destroyed and plundered Kelaniya temple.
The three storied Sri Dalada Maligawa of Kotte, which was at that time, one of the most spectacular Buddhist structures in the country, was completely destroyed by Portuguese Catholics. Among other monumental Buddhist vihare and Monastery complexes completely destroyed by Portuguese Catholics were:
Mapitigama Raja Maha Viharaya, Wattala Raja Maha Vijharaya, Devinuwara Raja Maha Viharaya and related buildings besides the Munneswaram Kovila in Chilaw, Ratnapura Saman Devalaya.
The Portuguese Catholics plundered and destroyed all prominent Buddhist Seats of Learning, most notably – The famous Vijayaba Pirvena of Totagamuwa, the Padmavathi Pirivena of Keragala and the Sunethra Devi Pirivena of Pepiliyana.
These were seats of learning associated with reputed Sinhala Buddhist scholars and literary icons at the time, such as Most Venerable Totagamuwe Sri Rahula and Most venerable Veedagama Maitreya Nayaka Theras.
All lands that belonged to these seats of learning were taken away and given to the Catholic church. The valuable books in temples and places of learning were destroyed. The great Poet monk Weedagama Maithree Thero who wrote Lowedasangarawa and Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula were living in their temple at the time of its demolition by Catholics.
All Buddhist temples, monasteries and places of learning along the coastal belt were plundered and destroyed by the Portuguese Catholics, and Buddhist monks associated with these sites were subject to untold harassment and ill-treatment. Lands belonging to these Buddhist sites were taken over and given to Catholic establishments.
Never were a glorious civilization and a noble culture more brutally destroyed. The work of centuries was undone in a few years. The Catholic Portuguese period (1505 – 1658) constitutes a long and poignant chronicle of oppression and injustice meted out to the Sinhala Buddhists. The Catholic Portuguese were the first colonial power to pave in this country the way to almost continuous religious tensions – the repercussions of which is felt to this day in Sri Lanka.
HORROR AND KILLINGS that Mark the History of Christianity
The Vatican’s Holocaust”, the book authored by Avro Manhattan, published by Ozark Books of Springfield, Montana, USA, contains a sensational account of the most horrifying religious massacre of the 20th century. Startling revelations of forced conversions, mass murder of non-Catholics, Catholic extermination camps, disclosures of Catholic clergy as commanders of concentration camps; documented with names, dates, places, pictures and eyewitness testimony.
The ordinary individual cannot accept as yet the startling facts that only a few years back, for instance, the Catholic Church advocated forcible conversions, helped to erect concentration camps, and was responsible for the sufferings, torturing and execution of hundreds of thousands of non-Catholics – deeds coolly perpetrated by her lay and ecclesiastic members. Furthermore, that many of such atrocities were carried out personally by some of her Catholic priests.
One of the main purposes of this book is to relate where, when and by whom such atrocities were committed. It took the author almost half a decade of painstaking investigation before he accepted what seemed unbelievable. The result is this account, documented from as authoritative and as varied sources as possible. Among them, people with whom the present writer became personally acquainted. Some of these played no mean role in the religious, political and military events herein narrated. Others were eye-witnesses. Indeed, not a few even victims of the incredible atrocities sanctioned and promoted by the Catholic Church.
The names of most of the participants, Catholic laymen, military, priests, friars, bishops, archbishops and cardinals, as well as those of their non-Catholic victims, men, women and children, including clergymen, are as genuine as the names of the localities, villages and cities where the atrocities took place.
Their authenticity can be verified by anyone willing to do so. Documents and photographs of Catholic concentration camps, Catholic mass executions and Catholic forced conversions, some of which are in this book, are kept in the archives of the Yugoslav Government, of the Orthodox Church, of the United Nations and of other official institutions.
The Ecumenical revolution, although seemingly alluring, has shown itself to be nothing more than a Trojan Horse via which Catholic power, apparelled in contemporary garb, continues to assert itself as effectively active as ever. The striking samples of contemporary Catholic terrorization which occurred in Malta and Vietnam, many of which took place during the days of good old Pope John” and, indeed, under the pontificate of Pope Paul VI, need no elucidation.
They are the most damning proof that the Catholic Church, notwithstanding all her alleged liberalization, fraternization and up-to-dateness, basically, has not changed an iota. The portentous significance of what is here described, therefore, should be carefully scrutinized. Lest the past be repeated in the future. Indeed, now. In the present.
The Author of this book- Avro Manhattan was the world’s foremost authority on Roman Catholicism in politics. A resident of London, during WW II he operated a radio station called Radio Freedom” broadcasting to occupied Europe. MORE THAN 251 MILLION KILLED
History is replete with evidence of horror and death owing to Christian/Catholic extremism and brutality. The following is a mere outline of the history of ruthlessness and killings by the Christian Church, in particular by the Catholics, led by the Pope.
The total number of people killed by the Christian/Catholic church up to the year 1945, or roughly the end of World War II, amounts to more than 251 million (Reference: Deceptions and Myths in the Bible by Lloyd M. Graham, Citadel Press, 1997). In addition to this figure, several more millions were killed in Christian religious wars/genocides since the WWII, in places such as Vietnam, Rwanda, and elsewhere in the world, including Sri Lanka.
KILLINGS DURING THE EUROPEAN DARK AGES”
Countless millions were killed in religious wars initiated by Catholics during 1400 years of European dark Ages” from 380 to 1812 CE. During the Crusades, from 1095 to 1291 CE, about 7 million people were killed for Christian religious reasons. One million were killed in the first crusade alone. Thousands were annihilated In the Fourth Crusade – the plunder of Constantinople in 1204 CE (Ref: H. Wollschlager: Die bewaffneten Wallfahten gen Jerusalem” Zurich 1973).
The European Dark Ages” was a long period of severe repression extending to over 1400 years. It caused utter misery and feelings of hopelessness for the peoples of the so-called Holy Roman Empire” (The Norman Conquest, 1066 CE, only reinforced this repression in Britain. Ref: Walter Scott’s Ivanhoe). These people lived in pain and fear. They were owned nothing except their clothes being villains or serfs working for and owned by the bishop or the aristocrat who lived a life of luxury. People were not allowed to think outside the scriptures and were not permitted to talk and share their thoughts, hopes and desires with others. Those accused of such action were considered as criminals and were taken away by monks for torture firstly in their Hell-Holes” and then to a maximum cruelty death. People led lonely, heartbreak lives in which all hope and dreams had died in the struggle to survive in these austere, grim conditions of religious repression.
In France, during the so called Albigensian Crusade from 1209 -1229 CE, Catholic invaders killed about a million people who were Christians but not Catholic. St Anthony triggered this horrendous massacre by declaring them ‘heretical’ to Catholicism. Pope Innocent- III, ordered their elimination which led to the massacre of these innocents. It was mass-murder and for twenty years the killing went on until almost all were killed and the Vatican much enriched!
About 60,000 were killed at the conquest of Jerusalem in 1099CE. They included Jews, Muslims, men women and children. In the battle of Askalon, in August 1099, some 200,000 heathens were slaughtered in the name of ‘Our Lord Jesus Christ’. In the Fourth Crusade the sack (plunder) of Constantinople” in 1204 CE, thousands were killed including Orthodox Christians (Ref: H. Wollschlager: :Die bewaffneten Wallfahten gen Jerusalem” Zurich 1973).
In the Albigensian Crusade in Southern France during 1209 -1229 CE, against the Christian Albigensians (Cathars) of Languedoc, France, about a million innocent people were killed by the Catholics. An Inquisition was established to search out and destroy the last surviving, hiding heretics. The last of the Cathars was burned at the stake in 1324 CE. The Inquisitions were so ruthless; about 10 million people were killed by means of this judicial farce. They were never told the charges against them nor who made them. Most of the accused were first severely tortured in the Dominican (Domini Canes = God’s guard dogs) or Franciscan monks monasteries’ Hell Holes.” That is how the phrase came into common usage. After the judgment, many were publicly burned alive or strapped into iron body cages and suspended on gibbets to die in public as a reminder to all to ‘believe and baptize – or be damned’ – perish in hell- fire everlasting. (Mark Ch.16. Vs.6)
Spanish Inquisitor, Torquemada, a former Dominican friar, working between 1480 until 1495 CE was responsible for 10,220 burnings of witches and 97,371 hangings of heretics and otherwise disposed of a total of 114,000 people. Their property was confiscated and handed over to Papal Rome. The wealth of the Vatican is from such activity. (Ref: K-H. Deschner Opus Diaboli Pg. 28). Such a proto-Stalinist state existed for 1400 years until Napoleon swept away the aristocrats in his wars to liberate the slaves of Europe at the start of the 19th century.
RELIGIOUS WARS IN THE 15 – 17th CENTURY
During this time, the Catholic Vatican was fighting the heresy of Protestantism. The North-South 30-years war between the Protestants and Catholics led to 18 million killings in Germany alone. In the 15th century a crusade against the Hussites of mid Europe resulted in the slaying of thousands of people (Karl-Heinz Deschener Opus Diaboli Pg.30). In 1572, in France, about 20,000 Huguenots were killed on the command of pope Pius V and 200,000 fled France to England, and other places [Ref: K-H. Deschner Opus Diaboli, Pg.31].
In the 17th Century, Catholics sacked the city of Magdeburg, Germany and roughly 30,000 Protestants were slain. In a single church some fifty women were found beheaded reported poet Friedrich Schiller, and the infants still suckling the breasts of their dead mothers” (Stannard: American Holocaust,” Oxford University Press 1992).
KILLINGS IN AFRICA AND SOUTH AMERICA
From about the mid 15th century until about the 19th century about 55 million African Negro slaves were shipped to the America’s by Christians, of whom some 40 million died on the way due to mistreatment by their Christian captors.
In the late 15th century, Spanish conquests of the New World – the Central and South America was made possible by the massacre of some 60 million indigenous people. They were subject to religious torture and slaughter, or diseases were introduced to kill them. After the Pope allocated the Americas to the Spanish crown with the instructions to colonize on authority from GOD, and to bring the conquered people to GOD, the Conquistadores had an unlimited license to kill and plunder.
They exterminated the magnanimous Inca, the Aztec and the Mayan Civilizations considered to be among the most civilized and intelligent people that lived on earth at the time. They obliterated the harmless native peoples of the Caribbean (Stannard: American Holocaust” Oxford University Press 1992).

A total of about 60 million Native Americans were killed through religious torture and slaughter, or forced, unnatural Christian clothing or diseases introduced by the Conquistadores. As a result, the Negro slave trade became necessary to develop these countries and exploit the agricultural wealth they found.
These Spanish Catholics now needed labourers for their new plantations and building of Spanish towns in the Americas. African Negro slaves being unbaptized” were considered little more than animals to be used, beaten or disposed of by their Bible-believing European Christian owners. Negro Slave labour was necessary to exploit the resources of these countries and to develop them to serve the needs of the Christians.
AFRICAN NEGRO SLAVES
Of the 55 million African Negro slaves-shipped to the Americas about 40 million died in transit, due to mistreatment by their Christian captors. Why African Negros? – because the Conquistadores had killed off most of the peoples of Central and South America – millions! Now they needed labourers for the plantations and building of the Spanish towns. African negro slaves were UNBAPTISED, so in those days, considered as little more than animals to be used, beaten or disposed of as the owner wished. It was all of no importance to Bible-believing Christians.’
THE NAPOLEONIC WARS (1800-1815 CE.)
It all started with the French Revolution (1789-1799 CE.) against trade cartels, the Catholic King and the aristocrats. The Revolution rolled back the influence of the Catholic aristocracy, first in Paris, then with Napoleon’s help in France in general. When Napoleon invaded Spain in 1808 CE., he put an end to the Inquisition there. In the monastery of Dominican Monks in Madrid Nepoleon’s troops found torture chambers full of prisoners, all naked and many were insane. The French troops being used to cruelty and blood, could not stomach the sight. They emptied the torture chambers, laid gunpowder to the monastery and blew the place up. Wars with other countries of Europe then drew in the European powers and Russia into conflict with Napoleon and he was defeated in battle in 1815.
FASCIST World War II
In CROATIA 1942-43, Dictator Ante Pavlek, a close friend of the Pope, had numerous extermination camps run by the Catholic Ustasha. Many of the killers were Franciscan friars who stabbed, shot or burned alive about 700,000 Greek Orthodox Serbs. The process yielded the conversion of 250,000 Serbs to Catholicism – even acculturalising them as Croats. Pavlek was given 20 Kgs. of human eyes afterwards, to relish. The Pope knew about these camps but did nothing to stop them. (A.Manhatten – The Pope’s Holocaust, Springfield, 1986)
Fascism has its roots in early Christian Rome with its Fasces” axe the symbol of authority. Early Catholics wanted: One God, One Religion for all” and strength from unity” by which means they could impose centralized control and order.” These ideas were adopted by the leaders of Hitler’s Germany and Mussolini’s Italy, and Pavlec’s Croatia (and Franco in Spain) – all attained authority with the help and blessings of the Pope. World War II has caused the death of a grand total of 51,000,000 people.
CATHOLIC TERROR IN VIETNAM
From mid 1950’s onwards, Catholic terror in Buddhist VIETNAM led to the killing of about a million people. Fanatic Catholic dictator Ngo Dinh Diem issued U.S. Food Aid only to Catholics. Buddhists had to pay for what they received. Thousands of Buddhist protesters and monks were imprisoned in detention camps.” Huge numbers are involved: 500, 000 were incarcerated, 80,000 were executed, etc. Soon, the prisons became no-nonsense death camps. Out of protest, dozens of Buddhist teachers – male and female – and monks, poured petrol over themselves and burned themselves to death. And, what is important to note is that to support this ruthless Catholic regime, thousands of American GIs lost their lives.

Vietnam is a traditional Buddhist country that faced more than three decades of armed aggression by imperial powers. Even after the country was liberated it stood divided since the French Catholics held on to its south. Even after the ignominious defeat of the French following the epic battle of Dien Bien Phu and their evacuation the United States stepped in to replace French occupation.
The Vietnamese did not give up or surrender. They fought the world Super Power relentlessly in face of carpet bombing which scorched out entire villages. They matched the superior technology of the United States’ war machine with innovation, skill and international solidarity. The US lost one third of its Air Force in Vietnam. It taught the world a lesson. That is, no nation united in its resolve to defend its sovereignty can be defeated. It is not by resolve alone that they won. They won through sacrifice, immense sacrifice.
RWANDA MASSACRES 1994 CE.
In 1994, Up to 3 million people were massacred in religion based genocide, all aided and abetted by Christian priests. B.B.C. News April 19, 1998 announced that A court in Rwanda has sentenced two Roman Catholic priests to death for their role in the genocide of 1994 in which a million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed. Pope John Paul said the priests must be made to account for their actions. Different sections of the Rwandan Church have been widely accused of playing as active role in the genocide of 1994 …
It would be a most opportune time and a gracious gesture on his part, if the Pope who plans on visiting Sri Lanka in the near future, seeks forgiveness from the Buddhists and Hindus of Sri Lanka, for the widespread injustices and human rights offences the Catholic church has committed in the distant and recent past in our motherland.

Come of it man, let our Catholic brothers and sisters rejoice and welcome their head of religion.
Look at what the Hindus are doing to the Sinhalese be they Buddhists, Christians or Islam. Look at the election results of this presidential election. Nonviolent aggression and oppression is much worse than violent aggression and oppression with the former you see it and feel it but with the latter you don’t see it or feel it and the suffering is worse.

Sri Lanka is a BUDDHIST country, not a Catholic one (Catholics are only about 6% of population). The ONLY reason we have any Catholics in Sri Lanka is because of Portuguese COLONIZATION (forced subjugation), and for this the Pope should apologize just like Popes in the past have apologized for the Crusades which killed anyone who did not regard Jesus as their lord and savior.
This idea that certain white people have that they can FORCE their religion and their rulership on distant lands MUST be challenged upfront. If Buddhists behaved in the same way, we would never hear the end of criticism and condemnation, so why are we silent when it comes to Catholic and Christian efforts to force their religion on us and subjugate our people to THEIR rule?
Jesus would never approve of the behavior of the Catholics whose pomp, excessive materialism, and fascination with how many people they can control would actually disgust him. Lusting for more power and material things is not part of the teachings of Jesus, and if the Pope is a true follower of Jesus he MUST speak out against these un-Jesus-like features of Catholicism and the the Christian faith.

Christie, Referring to this election results, I am sure you’ll appreciate that its a clear reflection of the vast majority of ‘the minority’ 30% of the population and the minority of ‘the majority’ 70% of the population.
As for current Pope’s visit to Sri Lanka, we who do not have faith in the creator God or his emissaries take it purely as a gesture of goodwill extended to our catholic brothers and sisters to meet their aspirations. Anyway, I am sure, all Sinhala Buddhists are happy that Pope Francis is accorded and treated with the highest respect.
At the same time, its up to the God’s emissary not just to bring his God’s grace to us but to apologize for the horrendous crime that his ancestors, the Dominican and Franciscan monks had inflicted on our ancestors with the Portuguese pirates that washed to our shores, just as his predecessor Pope, John Paul II apologized in 1979 for his predecessor, Pope Urban V111’s wicked acts on Galileo Galilee.

මෙම පරමාර්ථය නිතරම සිතේ ඇතිව පොත් ලියා ඇති ලේඛකයින් දෙදෙනෙක් වන කොලට් සේනානායක හා නාරද කරුණාතිලක විසින් අළුතෙන්ම මුද්රණය කරණ ලද, “කොන්කිස්තදෝස්: ශ්රී ලංකාවේ ක්රිස්තියානියට මුල පෑදීම” (බෝධි සභාව, 2014) යන කෘතිය ඉතාමත් කාලෝචිත වන්නේ, රෝමයේ වටිකන් පල්ලියේ ඉතිහාසයේ ප්රථම වරට බෞද්ධ රටක බෞද්ධ ජනාධිපති කෙනෙක් විසින් පෝප්තුමාට තම රටට සැපත්වන ලෙස ඔහු ලඟටම ගොස් කල ආයාචනය පිළිගෙන එතුමා 2015 ජනවාරි මැද ලංකාවට ඒමට නියමිත නිසාය. ඒ ආ විට ජෝෂප් වාස් නම් අවුරුදු 500 කට පමණ පෙර ලංකාවේ විසූ ඉන්දියන් ——පූජකයෙක් ලංකාවෙන් පහලවුණ සාන්තුවරයෙක් ලෙස නම් කිරීමටද නියමිතය.
පෝප්තුමා විසින්, කතෝලික පෘතුගීසීන් විසින් ලංකාවේ සිදුකල අමානුසික මිනිස් සංහාර වලට, එතුමා මීට පෙර වෙන රටවලදී කලා මෙන් ලංකාවේදීද මෙරට බෞද්ධයින්ගෙන් සමාව ගතයුතු යයි පෝප් කෙනෙකු ලංකාවට ආ සැම වේලාවේදීම කෙරෙන ඉල්ලීම මෙවරද ඉදිරිපත්වී ඇත. ඒ ගැන කොළඹ තරුණ ක්රිස්තියානි සංවිධානය විසින් කියා ඇත්තේ පෘතුගීසින් කල සංහාර ගැන සමාව දිය යුත්තේ පෘතුගාලයේ පෘතුගීසී අගමැති මිස පෝප් විසින් නොවේය කියා ය. ලංකාවේ මුස්ලිම් සංවිධානයක්ද මෙම ක්රිස්තියානි සංවිධානයේ මතය අනුමත කලේය. ලෝකයේ මුස්ලිම් ආක්රමණ ඉතිහාසයද එවැනි මිනිස් හා වස්තු ඝාතන සංහාර වලින් පිරි ඉතිහාසයක් නිසා මෙය එක වර්ගයේ කුරුළ්ලන්ගේ රංචු ගැසෙනවා වැනිය. කොලට් හා නාරද ඉතා සරල භාෂාවෙන් පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ පෘතුගීසී සංහාර කතෝලික පල්ලියේ උවමනාවට කල කතෝලික ආක්රමණ බවය.
මෙම සංහාර කොතරම් දරුණු වූවාද යත් ඒ කාලයේ සිටි කතෝලික ලේඛකයෙක් කියා සිටියේ මේ ක්රියා නිසා කුරිරු කතෝලික පෘතුගීසීන්ට ලංකාව තබා ගැනීමට ඉඩ නොදී දඬුවම් කිරීමට දෙවියන්වහන්සේ තීරණය කලාය යනුවෙනි (——-). ප්රසිද්ධියේ පිරිමි දරුවන් ලවා ඔවුන්ගේම මව්වරුන් දූෂණය කරවීම කතෝලික ලබ්ධියට නොෙන අයට දුන් එක් දඬුවමක් විය (—-). විදේශ රටවල් යටත් කර ගැනීමට ගිය පෘතුගීසි හා ස්පාඤ්ඤ භටයින් ජාතික වීරයන් ලෙස කොන්කිස්තදෝස් හෙවත් ජයග්රාහයකයෝ, රටවල් ජයගත්තෝ යනුවෙන් හැඳින්වුවත්, ඔවුන් ලංකාවේ හැඳිවූයේ මුහුදු කොල්ලකරුවන් ලෙසය. කොලට් හා නාරද ඔවුන්ගේ කෘතියට දී ඇත්තේ මේ නමය.
සංවිධානාත්මකව යම් ක්රිස්තියානි කොටසක් විසින් කරගෙන යන ව්යාපාරයක් නම් ලංකාවේ ක්රිස්තියානි ලබ්ධිය ආරම්භවූයේ 1505 දී නොව සීගිරි මුගලන් රාජ කාලය තරම් ඈතකදී යන කතාවය. අනුරාධපුරයේ හමුවු කේරළ කුරුසය ලංකාවට ආ වෙළෙන්ඳන් ගෙන ආ දෙයක් මිස ඒ උඩ ඒ කාලයේ සිටම ලංකාවේ ක්රිස්තියානි ජන සමාජයක් තිබුණා යයි තර්ක කිරීම දුප්පත් කතෝලිකයින් හා බෞද්ධයින් නිරපරාදේ නොමඟ හැරීමකි. ඉන් ඒත්තු ගැන්වීමට තතනන්නේ ක්රිස්තියානි ලබ්ධිය ආරම්භවූයේ මිනිස් ඝාතන සංහාර හරහා 1505 දී සිට නොව ඈත අතීතයේ අනුරාධපුර යුගයේ දීමය කියා ය (කොලට් හා නාරද, පෙරවදන).
යුරෝපයෙන් පිට ක්රිස්තියානි ආගම තිබුණායයි 1505 කාලයේදී විශ්වාස කලේ ඉතියෝපියාවේ ප්රෙස්ටර් ජෝන් රජු යටතේය. යුරෝපීයයින් 1407 දී ඉතියෝපියාවටත් ඉතියෝපියන්වරු 1306 දී යුරෝපයටත් ගොස් ඇත. ඉතියෝපියාවේ සිටිනවා යයි කියන ක්රිස්තියානි රජු හා එකතුව මුස්ලිමුන්ට විරුද්ධව සටන් කිරීම (කුරුස යුද්ධ) පෘතුගීසි අභිප්රාය විය. එසේ නම් ඉතියෝපියාවට අමතරව අනුරාධපුරයේත් ඈත අතීතයේ සිට ක්රිස්තියානි ජනාවාස තිබුණානම් ඒ බවද ඒ කාලයේ සඳහන් වනවා නිසැකය.
කොලට් හා නාරදගේ කෘතිය මාතෘකා 20 ක් යටතේ අප බොහෝ දෙනා නොදන්නා තොරතුරු ඉදිරිපත් කර ඇත. පාඨකයාට පහසුවෙන් වටහා ගත හැකි කෙටි විස්තරයක් එක් එක් මාතෘකාවට අඩංගු කර ඇත. මෙම මාතෘකා පහතින් සඳහන් ආකාරයට කොටස් හයකට බෙදා ඇත.

මාලදිවයිනෙන් බුද්ධාගම විනාශකර එය අල්ලාගත් මොහමදිකයන් මෙන් රජ පවුල් හරහා ලංකාව අල්ලා ගැනීම පෘතුගීසි උපාය විය. දොන් ජුවන් ධර්මපාල ලංකාවේ ප්රථම හා එකම කතෝලික රජු විය. දෝන කතිරිනා උඩරට රජු කිරීම ඊලඟ අවස්ථාවය. එහෙත් ඔවුන් පුහුණුකල දොන් ජුවන්ට සිංහල බෞද්ධකම මතුවීම නිසා ලංකාව කතෝලික රටක්වීම වැළකුණි. විමලධර්මසූරිය නමින් රජවී රට ජාතිය බේරාගත්තේ මේ දොන් ජුවන් ය.
කතෝලික අධිකරණය තම ලබ්ධියට නොහැරෙන අයට දඬුවම් කිරීම සඳහා යොදාගත් ක්රමය විය. ඉන්කියුසිසaaෝ නම් මේ කතෝලික ආගමික උසාවි පිලිම වන්දනා කරණ මිනිසුන්ට දරුණු වධ දෙන ලද්දේ කතොලික ආගමට නොහැරුණු නිසාය. කොට්ටේ රජු භුවනෙකබාහු ගැන ප්රැන්සිස් සේවියර් පූජකයා පෘතුගාල රජුට දන්වා ඇත්තේ ඔහු විශ්වාසකල නොහැකි රජෙකු බවත් ඒ නිසා කතෝලික ආගම පැතිරවීමට වඩා බලවත් ලෙස, දරුණු ලෙස ක්රියාකලයුතු බවත් ය. 1594 දී ලංකාවට ආ ජෙරනිමෝ අසවේදු මෙසේ ඇරඹුණ කෲර ක්රියාකලාපයේ යක්ෂයෙක් වැනි විය.
මේ ක්රිස්තියානි සංවිධානය පැතිරවූ මෙවැනිම තවත් විකෘති අදහසක් නම් සිංහල අළුත් අවුරුද්ද සිංහල කතෝලිකයින්ට අයත් නැත, ඔවුන්ගේ අවුරුද්ද ජනේරුව යන්නය. මෙසේ කතෝලිකයින් සිංහලයින් නොවේ යයි ව්යංගයෙන් කීම ඓතිහාසිකව සිංහල බෞද්ධයින් සිංහල කතෝලිකයින්ට පෙන්වූ මිත්රශීලීභාවය අමතක කර දැමීමකි. උදාහරණයක් වශයෙන් අනාගාරික ධර්මපාලතුමා කියා සිටියේ සිංහල ජාතිය ගොඩනඟා ගැනීම සඳහා ක්රිස්තියානී හා බෞද්ධ දෙකොටසම එකමුතුව ක්රියාකල යුතු බවය (පෙරවදන). මෙහි සත්යතාවය එලිවූයේ ප්රභාකරන්ගේ හා පසුකාලීනව මුස්ලිම් ෂාරියා/වහබි ප්රහාර වලට ක්රිස්තියානී හ බෞද්ධ යන සිංහල දෙකොටසම එකසේ ලක්වූ විටය.
පෘතුගීසීන් තෝම්බු ක්රමය යොදාගත්තේ ඒ මඟින් ආගම පැතිරවීමටය. ක්රිස්තියානි වන අයට ඉඩකඩම් දීමත්, බෞද්ධයින්ගෙන් බදු අයකිරීමත්, විවාහ රෙජිස්ටර් කිරීමත් මේ මඟින් සිදුවිය. පෘතුගාලයේ අනාථවූ ගෑණුන් ගෙනැවිත් ලංකාවේ ප්රාදේශීය නායකයින්ගේ පුත්තුන්ට විවාහ කරවා දෙන ලදී. ඒ සඳහා ලොකු ඉල්ලීමක් රටතුල තිබිණ! විවාහය පල්ලියේ කල නිසා උපදින දරුවන් ඉබේම කතෝලික විය.
මුහුදුබඩ ප්රදේශයේ තිබූ සියළුම විහාර ස්ථාන, පිරිවෙන්, දේවාල (මුන්නේශ්වරම පැගෝඩාව, දෙවිනුවර නාථ දේවාලය) පෘතුගීසීන් විසින් විනාශකර ඒ ඉඩම්වල කතෝලික පල්ලි ගොඩනැඟීම හෝ කතෝලිකයින්ට බෙදාදීම කරණ ලදී. පත්තිනි දේවාල මරියා වන්දනා ස්ථාන බවට පෙරලීමේ හොඳම නිදසුන මඩු පල්ලිය ය. මුලදී හෙලා දකින ලද පිලිම වන්දනාව, පැගෝඩා, පත්තිනි වන්දනාව අන්තිමේදී කතෝලික වන්දනා ක්රම බවට පෙරලීම කොලට් හා නාරද පෙන්වා දේ. අවලෝකිතේශ්වර බෝසතුන්ගේ පතිනියවූ පත්තිනි දේවිය කොපිකර, මරියා මාතාව සුරුපී දෙවඟනක ලෙස පෙන්වීම ක්රිස්තියානි ආගම බුද්ධාගමෙන් කොපිකර ගන්නා ලද ජනප්රිය අදහසකි. මේ ආකාරයට දායක සභාව, කිතුනු සංඝ, සසුන, හිමිපාණෝ, පින්දීම, දානය, අසපුව, පැවිදි, ආරණ්යය, වැඩමකිරීම යනාදී බෞද්ධ වචන කොපිකරමින් පවතී. කුස්තන්තීනු හටන කන්නි මරියා ලෝකය රකින්නේය යනුවෙන් බයිබලයට පටහැනි මතයක් ඉදිරිපත් කරයි (56-57 පිටු)
කොළඹ සිට පුත්තලම දක්වා දිගටම දක්නට ලැබෙන්නේ කතෝලික පිලිම වන්දනාවයයි කොලට් හා නාරද පෙන්වා දේ. කටුනායක ගුවන් තොටුපලේ සිට ආ විදේශිකයින් (අධිවේගී මාර්ගයට පෙර) ලංකාව කතෝලික රටක් කියා සිතුවේ මේ නිසාය. 1547 දී පෝප් විසින් ප්රැන්සිස් සේවියර්ගේ උපදෙස් උඩ නිකුත්කල බුල්ලාවට අනුව “පිලිම වන්දනාකරුවන්ගේ පැගෝඩා (විහාර) පෙරලා දැමීම, පොත්පත් ගිනි තැබීම, පූජකයින් (හාමුදුරුවරු) පුළුස්සා දැමීම, මිසදුටුවන් නසමින් ආගම පැතිරවීම” ආගමික රාජකාරි විය. එහෙත් අද කතෝලිකයින් පිලිම වන්දනාවේ පමණක් නොව පල්ලි ඇතුලේ යක් බෙර ගැසීම පවා කරයි.
මන්නාරම පෘතුගීසි බලකොටුවේ කෝට්ටේ, සීතාවක හා මහනුවර රජපවුල්වල අය බෝඩිම් කර (සිරකර) තබාගෙන ජෙසුයිට් පූජකවරුන් යටතේ ක්රිස්තියානීකරණයට ලක් කල හැටි එහි අරක්කැමියෙකුව සිටි ලේඛකයෙක්වූ පේදුරු ද බැස්තෝ විසින් ලියූ විස්තර ක්වේරෝස් පියතුමාට කියවීමට ලැබිණ (එස් ජී පෙරේරා පාදිලිතුමා විසින් මේවා කොපිකර ඇත). ඒ අනුව පේදුරු කියා ඇත්තේ පෘතුගීසීන් ලංකාවේ කල මහා සංහාරය නිසා දෙවියන් ඔවුන්ට දඬුවම් කර ලංකාව ඔවුන්ට අහිමිකල බවය (45 පිටුව).
ජෝෂප් වාස් හා ප්රැන්සිස් සේවියර් මෙහිදී වැදගත් නම් දෙකකි. සේවියර් පැරිසියේ පල්ලියක මිලිටරි සංවිධානයක් පිහිටුවාගත් ස්පඤ්ඤ ශිෂ්යයින් හත් දෙනාගෙන් එක් අයෙකි (62 පිටුව). කතෝලික ආගම බේරා ගැනීමට හා පතුරවා හැරීමට බිහිකල මේ සංවිධානය වත්මන් කාලයේ ත්රස්තවාදී සංවිධානයක් වැනිය. දිනකට 20,000 ක් කතෝලික ආගමට හැරවීම දිව්යමය (මැජික්) බලයක් තිබුණා යයි කියන සේවියර් ලංකාවටද පැමිණ ඇත. අසවේදු මිනිසුන් කිඹුලන්ට දමා බලා සිටීම, ගැහැණුන්ගේ පියයුරු ගැලවීම කලේ මෙේ සේවියර්ගේ ඝාතන ක්රමයේ කොටසක් වශයෙනි. සේවියර් චීනයට යමින් සිටියදී වයස 46 දී උන රෝගයකින් (වසූරිය?) 1552 දී මිය ගියේය. ඔහුගේ සේවය නිසා ඔහුව 1625 දී ශාන්තුවරයෙක් ලෙස පෝප් විසින් නම් කරන ලද නමුත් ඉන්දියාවේ හින්දූන් ඔහුව සැලකුවේ මුහුදු කොල්ලකාරයෙකු ලෙසය. පෝල්ට පසු ඉතාමත් සාර්ථක ලෙස අස්වැන්න නෙලාගත් දේවගැතිවරයා ඔහු යයිද වාර්තාවේ (71 පිටුව).
1978දී පමණ ඇරඹුණ ජෝෂප් වාස් නම් ගෝවේ උපත ලැබූවා යයි කියන (ඔහු කොචින්හි උපන අයෙකි) පූජකයා ශාන්තුවරයෙක් කිරීමේ ව්යාපාරය, 2015 ජනවාරි මස ලංකාවේදී සිදුවීමට නියමිතය. යාචකයෙකු සේ වෙස්වලාගෙන ලංකාවට පැමිණි ඔහු ඔත්තුකාරයෙකු සේ සැකයට පත්වී පසුව දෙවන විමලධර්මසූරිය රජු විසින් අභයදානය දෙන ලද්දෙකි (67 පිටුව). ලංකාව ආපසු පෘතුගීසීන්ට ලබාගැනීම සඳහා කටයුතු කිරීමට ගෝවේ සිට කරණ ලද උත්සාහයට එක්වූ ඔහුට යේසුතුමාට මෙන් නොපෙනී අතුරුදහන් වීමේ බලයක් තිබුණා යයි කියවේ.
ආසියාවේ රටවල් අතරින් වැඩියෙන්ම ක්රිස්තියානිකරණයවූ රට ලංකාවය. එහෙත් අවුරුදු 500 කට පසුව ලංකාවේ එම ආගමට හරවා ගෙන ඇත්තේ සියේට 10 කට අඩු පිරිසකි. දහනායක, ප්රේමදාස හා විජේතුංග යන තිදෙනා හැරෙනවිට අන් හැම ලංකා අගමැති/ජනාධිපති කෙනෙක්ම මව/බිරිය/පියා ක්රිස්තියානිවූ අයය. මේ නිසා ලංකාවේ මහානායකවරුන්ගේ එක්මුතු කියමනකට වඩා කාඩිනල්ට ලංකාවේ බලයක් ඇත.
බෞද්ධයා කාරුණික වන්න වන්න ක්රිස්තියානි බා ගැනීම තීව්ර වෙමින් පවතී (83 පිටුව). අතීතයේදී අනුරාධපුර ශුද්ධ නගරය මුස්ලිම්, දෙමල හා ක්රිස්තියානි මිසදුටුවන්ගෙන් බේරා ගැනීමට බ්රහ්මචාරී වලිසිංහ හරිස්චන්ද්රතුමාගේ 1901 දී ඇරඹූ සටන නිසා ඔහු හිරගෙදර (වසදී?) මිය යැමට සිදුවිය. ඔහුට විරුද්ධව බෞද්ධ විරෝධී පුරාවිද්යා කොමසාරිස් එච් සී පී බෙල් ශාක්ෂි දුන්නේය (105 පිටුව).
කතෝලික ආගම දේශීයකරණය කල යුත්තේ සිංහල බෞද්ධ සංස්කෘතියට අනුකූලව මිස හරහට සිට නොවේ (97 පිටුව). උදාහරණයක් වශයෙන් අල්ලා යන වචනය ක්රිස්තියානි ආගම විසින් භාවිතා නොකල යුතුයැයි මැලේසියාවේ උසාවියක් තීන්දු කලේය. සිංහල කවි සම්ප්රදාය පල්ලිය විසින් කොපිකල යුත්තේ සුහදශීලී අන්දමට මිස ආක්රමණශීලී ලෙස නොවේ. අලගියවන්න මුකවැටිතුමා බෞතීස්මවී කුස්තන්තීනු හටන ලිව්වාද යන විවාදය මෙහිදී සඳහන් කල හැකිය (101 පිටුව).
සෙනරත් පරණවිතාන මහතාගේ යේසු බුද්ධා කතාව තවත් එවැනි සිද්ධියකි. මුගලන් රජුගේ කාලයේ සිට දකුණු ඉන්දියාවෙන් ක්රිස්තියානීන් පැමිණ ඇතැයි ඔහු පැවසුවේය. ඔහු මිය ගොස් නොබෝ දිනකින් ඔහුගේ ක්රිස්තියානි වැන්ඳඹුව රුපියල් 30,000 කට දෙමල ව්යාපාරිකයෙකුට ඔහුගේ පුස්තකාලය වෙන්දේසි කලේය. මෙහි තිබූ පන්සල්වලින් ලබාගත් වටිනා ඉතිහාසය අද කා ලඟද? තවත් ක්රිස්තියානියෙකුවූ ලෙස්ටර් ජේම්ස් පීරිස්, සීගිරි කාශ්යප චිත්රපටිය මඟින් පරනවිතාන අදහස් ප්රචාරය කලේය (108 පිටුව).
සිංහල කතෝලිකයින්, සිංහල බෞද්ධ පවුලේම කොටසක් වශයෙන් සිතිය යුතු කාලය පැමිණ ඇතැයි පෙන්වාදීම කොලට් හා නාරදගේ අභිප්රායවී ඇත. මේ සඳහා බොහෝ අප නොදන්නා කරුණු ඔවුන් අප ඉදිරියේ තබා ඇත. තොරතුරු සඟවනවා වෙනුවට තොරතුරු එලිදරව් කල යුතුය. උදාහරණයක් වශයෙන් ගෝවේ වල කොන්කානි ක්රිස්තියානි සරණාගතයින් නම් සංවිධානය, ෆැන්සිස් ක්ෂේවියර් සාන්තුවරයාගේ යයි කියමින් අවුරුදු 500 ක් තිස්සේ වන්දනාමාන කරන මෘත දේහය ගෝවෙන් ඔහු උපන් රටවන ප්රංශයට යවන ලෙස ඉල්ලා සිටින්නේ ක්ෂේවියර් විසින් කොන්කානින්ගේ මුතුන් මිත්තන්ට අවුරුදු 500 කට පෙර කරණ ලද කෲර සංහාර දැනගැනීමෙන් පසුවය.
මෙම මෘත දේහය ලංකාවේ ජීවත්වූ තොටගමුවේ ශ්රී රාහුල හිමියන්ගේ (1409-1491) දේහය කියා පැවසෙන්නේ රාහුල හාමුදුරුවන් සුවිශේෂ බෙහෙත් තෙලක් සදා බිව් නිසා ය. ලංකාවේ ඇල්පිටිය අසල අම්ඹන, ඉඳුරුගිරි ගුහාවෙන් සොරාගත් එම දේහය මුහුදින් චීනයට ගෙන යන අතර ක්ෂේවියර් පාචනය රෝගයෙන් මිය ගිය බවත්, ඉන්පසු දේහය ක්ෂේවියර්ගේ දේහය සේ ගෝවට ගෙනා බවත් කියැවේ. දැනට ගෝවේ ඇති දේහයේ එක අතක් නැති අතර, ඒ අත 1949 මැයි 27දා ජපානයේ වටිකන් තානාපති විසින් පරමාණු බෝම්බය දැමූ නාගසාකි නගරයේ කතෝලික පල්ලියේ තැන්පත් කරන ලදී. ඩී එන් ඒ පරීක්ෂණයක් මඟින් මෙම නාගසාකි හා ගෝවා මෘත ශරීර කොටස් කාගේද යන්න තීරණය කල හැකි නිසා ලංකාවේ ආණ්ඩුව මෙම ඉල්ලීම යුනෙස්කෝවට ඉදිරිපත් කල යුතුය. එය යුරෝපීය නොව ආසියානු ජාතිකයෙකුගේ නම් එය රාහුල හාමුදුරුවන්ගේ නොදිරණ දේහයය.
ඇමෙරිකා එක්සත් ජනපදයෙන් පමණක් වසරකට ඩොලර් බිලියන් 170 ක් ඩොනේෂන්ස් වශයෙන් වටිකන් කතෝලික පල්ලියට ලැබුණත් චැරිටි වශයෙන් වටිකන් වලින් ආපසු දෙන්නේ ඉන් සියේට 2.7 පමණය. මේ ධන සම්භාරය ටැක්ස්වලින් නිදහස් ය. ලංකාවේ පල්ලිවලින්ද මෙසේ වාර්ෂිකව වට්කන්වලට ඩොනේෂන් යවයි. ලංකාවේ දුප්පත් කතෝලිකයින් මෙම තොරතුරු දැනගත යුතුය.

If this is the same Hewapathiranas’ from Canada, they are nothing but fascist, bigots living in Vancouver. They enjoy the Western culture but pretends to be champions of the Buddhist faith. Avro Manhattan, is a reknown atheist. Atheists love taking pot shots at religions. Mr. Hewapathirana is talking of atrocities committed by the Catholic church, but he very conveniently forgets the 26 year ethinic conflict we had in Sri Lanka, where thousands of Tamils were killed by our Sinhalese Buddhist mobs. How about the radical buddhist monk Ven. Wirathu from Rangoon, Burma? Is not he responsible for killing Burmese Muslims in 2013 and 2014? If you are throwing stones don’t live in a glass house. When you are criticising another rfeligion or ethnicity don’t forget the skeletons in your own cupboard. How about the BBS monks going on rampages in Colombo? Yes, all Catholics should admire the Buddhist hospitality the Sinhalese bestowed on the Pope. We Sinhalese have a reputation for hospitality. If you have read Robert Knox’s “Eda Heladiwa”, it is apparent how generous are the Sinhalese. But bigots like you and Waduge do nothing but go back to history. Why go back to centuries of Christian atrocities when you can recall very vividly what happened in our own nation in the very recent past.

Lorenzo, I will stand corrected re killing of thousands. But didn’t Sinhalese mobs kill Tamils in Colombo and other areas? I am fully aware of the LTTE atrocities.They killed eveybody and anybody who were against their ideology and separation. I am not a LTTE sympathiser. But when somebody constantly thrash another religion or ethnicity, do you think he/she is doing the proper thing. Why go back to 500 years or more, when we ourselves had committed atrocities in the recent past. Where were you living in 1978 and 1983? I am a Sihalese but had friends from all communities.
Couple of my friends were killed at Dehiwela junction. They both had Sinhalese wives and were not LTTE sympathisers.
Have not you seen on youtube the maniacal behaviour of BBS monks? How about Ven Wirathu the renegade Burmese monk, who is also known as Bin Laden of Burma. I do not belong to any organised religion to take sides.

People killed by those mobs are NOTHING SIGNIFICANT compared to the numbers killed by TAMILS!
MORE people died in the same place Dehiwala when Tamils detonated bombs in trains, etc. than due to mob violence!
Mobs would have killed a few thousands AT MOST but Tamil TERRORISTS killed HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS!!

Same here. I have the courage to tell the BITTER truth. I was kicked out of MANY websites for telling the TRUTH which the owners of those websites found UNNERVING.
I’m a Christian but I’m NOT CONDITIONED by my circumstances. I can see BEYOND that. I charge the entire CATHOLIC CHURCH for harboring child sex offenders and denying it for thousands of years and other WORSE crimes including the Inquisition.
Don’t mix the CHURCH with the faith. Keep the faith not the church!
