“Uncle” Ranil-gay Aan-duwa Bang(s)a-well-la!
Posted on March 15th, 2015

H. L. D. Mahindapala

When Arjun Mahendra was appointed as Governor of the Central Bank he, being a shrewd PR operator, made it known to all and sundry that he was on very close terms with Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Prime Minister, by referring to him as Uncle Ranil”. Every other sentence began with Uncle Ranil told me….this and this” And ended with I told Uncle Ranil this and that..” But within  days of his appointment the Nephew” has pushed his Uncle” over the precipitous cliff. The  Uncle”-Nephew” team is now going down in a free fall. It proves all over again the old dictum of W. Dahanayake that the UNP is an Uncle” – Nephew” Party.

Uncle Ranil” must take responsibility for the fiasco of the mega-million deal in which his Nephew” is  involved. Thjis is another example of Uncle Ranil” has gone out of  his way to tuck under his sarong stray snakes running elsewhere.(Aha-ka yana nye aran redda ass-say da-gan-nawa).  R. Paskaralingam, the other so-called financial wizard who runs away each time Ranil falls from power, has also come back and is now inside Uncle” Ranil’s sarong. His reputation is well-known to businessmen who had dealt with him. It is common knowledge that he leads a life of splendid isolation in UK. On whose money? So why did Uncle” Ranil bring these snakes from abroad and tuck them inside his sarong?  What is it that they can do – or have done – which the locals can’t do? Why is he trying to commit suicide so early when the due date for his natural demise is at the end of  April 23, 015, the end of the magic 100-days which he promised would usher in the political nirvana.? When the next election campaign begins After 23rd will he dare go before the business community and promise to deliver another nirvana with a cleaner administration?

No one is to be blamed for ruining the image of  the Yaha-pala-naya” (good governance) other than Uncle” Ranil. He is the one who is running the Maithripala Sirisena, the SLFP  and the government. He is the one who recruited his Nephew” from Singapore, knowing his relationship with Raja Rajaratnam, the jailed insider trader in US. Clearly, insider trading is nothing new to Mahendra. It can’t get any closer than that of his son-in-law grabbing  the lion share of the bond market. And Uncle Ranil” alone should take responsibility for the insider trading scandal.

As if that is not bad enough his Finance Minister, Ravi Karunanayake, has, flouting all known decent  norms – forget the promises of running a clean administration within 100-days  – appointed his brother-in-law, T. M. R. Bangsa Jayah, an ex-Police Sergeant to a Rs. 600,000 per mensem directorship in the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation. This is the last straw that breaks the charter of a pure administration within 100-days. Uncle Ranil” has appointed Ravi Karunanayake into the key position of Finance Minister knowing that there is case of money laundering linked  – surprise!! surprise! – to Raja Rajaratnam, the jailed insider trader in US. This is as good as Uncle Ranil” appointing Gonawila Sunil, convicted rapist, as an assistant in his Ministry of Education in the days when his uncle, J. R. Jayewardene, was President. Everyone knows  that it was his Nephew’s intervention that influenced his Uncle JRJ” to release Gonawila Sunil.

All this adds up one simple fact:   the Wickremesinghe-Sirisena government is now Bang(s)a-well-la”! The Central Bank scandal and the appointment of  a Police Sergeant as a director of the state run insurance company are sufficient to make the accusations against Mahinda Rajapakse look like pin pricks. The disillusionment in the electorate, particularly among the middle class, will ensure the return of Mahinda Rajapakse. a one-horse race.

It can be reasonably assumed that Nephew” Mahendra would not have fallen into disgrace before he could even warm the seat of the Central Bank if he was not banking on the support of Uncle” Ranil. It is also absolutely clear that Nephew” Mahendra’s bonds (pun intended) with his son-in-law, Aloysius, is far stronger than with his Uncle Ranil”. This marks the beginning of the end of Uncle Ranil” claim to run a pure administration. His promise of delivering the pure and uncorrupted political nirvana within 100 days has come to an end within almost 50 days. What a fall for a man who boasted of his capacity to run the economy efficiently and without corruption! Unless the committee appointed to whitewashes the mega-million deal there is no way that Uncle” Wickremesinghe can bring back his Nephew” to head the Central Bank again.

What is alarming is that Uncle Ranil” has so far not asked for the resignation of his Nephew” nor has he resigned as the head of the Finance Ministry. Since he knows the Westminster rules like the back of his hands he should know that even a whiff  of scandal of this magnitude should oblige him to resign. Nor has Ravi Karuanayake justified the  appointment of his brother-in-law, Bangsa, to the directorate  of the Insurance company.

The appointments made by Uncle Ranil” and Ravi Kruananayake raise three questions: 1. Aren’t there competent Sri Lankans who are better than Arjuan  Mahendra and Paskaralingam to handle the finances of the nation? 2. What is President Maithripala Sirisena, the High Priest of Yaha-pala-naya”, doing to remedy the situation? and 3, Has the President’s own action of appointing his brother to head the Sri Lankan Telecom tied his hands and prevented any possibility of taking action against his Prime Minister and Finance Ministers for violating the basic principles which he preached as if they are the revised precepts of political dasa seela”?

The shenanigans of the two leaders of the Yaha-pala-naya” makes a mockery of the pure principles promised to the electorate. The President and the Prime Minister have jointly sabotaged their own future. They stand exposed not as members of a pure regime willing and able to change the corrupt political system but as abusers of power to feather their own nests.

The entire campaign of the President and the Prime Minister was based on the single slogan of making a difference” – when-a-suck. But the electorate is still waiting for the promised when-a-suck”.  The rate at which the two leaders are violating the principles announced in the when-a-suck” makes it amply clear that the promised when-a-suck” will never see the light of the day – not in 100 days. Nor in a another 1000days or more.

In short, the two leaders played out the electorate with bogus promises they could never achieve. Instead of giving the promised when-a-suck” they have they have taken the electorate to the biggest ride of their lives. There is no when-a-suck” in sight. They have jointly created only a disillusioned electorate of when-a-suckers” who are now repenting for the change they made unwittingly.

Namaste: Look mate Indian imperialists have sealed our future for the next six years and only way is 2/3 in parliament or a referendum. Hi folks Malaysia is lucky the majority Malays united and stood up to minority Chinese and Indian colonial parasites. In the island nation Indian colonial parasites and Indian Empire divided the Sinhala majority in 1951 by funding SWRD. Please read what the current Indian Empire said in various forums and interviews when he was here. Please stop blaming each other among us. Our enemies are Indian Empire, Indian colonial parasites and vermin in the world and here. Jai Hind.

I like the headline! I also saw a picture in the daily mirror where Ranil was surrounded by a bunch of boys. Looks like he likes the company of young boys.

HLDM, not sure about the promise ending in almost 50 days. It ended the moment RW appointed Ravi K to be the Minister of Finance.

    Mahindapala
Don’t show your stupid ignorance by running down a political leader. You people are vicious as the separatist scum. Just get a life. I am no supporter of him but I respect him and I doubt likes of Mahindapala would never get the attention or standing as of that man got. Please contribute in a civilized manner. Just because you are behind a key board doesn’t mean that you are a brave person you contribute to the country’s welfare and pay heavy taxes like us. We the responsible tax payers will not bring doom or gloom of any sort to the country that will jeopardize our well being Comments should be measured and not get personal.

  8. Fran Diaz Says:

A govt led mostly by Exec PM Ranil W. is not a good thing for the whole of Lanka. He s stuck in Cold War politics, same as CBK. Foreign interests matter more to him than local interests. For him, local folk seem to exist to be USED for foreign interests ! It appears that he has no respect for local folk. Therefore, as things are, he is not suitable to be a lead figure in Lanka politics.

Folks ! Sannity prevails from the Leader of the Opposition, Nimal Siripala de Silva ! Read on …

From the Daily Mirror, Mar 16, 2015

The main opposition UPFA today reiterated that there would be no Parliamentary Elections before introducing Constitutional and Electoral reforms and it would not let Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to force President Maithripala Sirisena’s hand to dissolve Parliament soon after April 23 as he had already announced.

Leader of the Opposition, Nimal Sirisipala De Silva told a hastily called press conference at his office that the constituent partners of the UPFA took the decision to introduce Constitutional and Electoral reforms in one go and not to go for an election after a lengthy discussion with President Sirisena last morning.

Asked whether President Sirisena was agreeable to their stance, he said ‘We are confident that he would agree as those arrangements are included in his 100-day programme. What we want is these two legislative arrangements to be passed in Parliament in one go and not piecemeal.”
“The demands to abolish the executive Presidency or at-least to prune its draconian powers and also to introduce a mixed electoral system have been floating among politicians, political parties, professionals, media and among the public for several decades but no government was able to go ahead with this vital reforms.

“Therefore, this is the last opportunity to do this as all political parties in Parliament, including the UNP, are in agreement to do this as early as possible.

“This exercise will not be difficult as the UPFA with 139 members in Parliament are fully supportive for the reforms,” Mr. De Silva stressed. (Sandun A Jayasekera)

This exercise will not be difficult as the UPFA with 139 members in Parliament are fully supportive for the reforms,” Mr. De Silva stressed.
Leader of the Opposition, Nimal Sirisipala De Silva , if you have UPFA 139 MP than why the hell ( sorry for my language) you are siting in opposite side Sir ???
    very difficult mathematical formula 225 dived by 2 = 115 greater than 139 !!!

  10. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

Nimal: “comments should be measured and not get personal” you write as you use your keyboard to get as personal and hurl insults at the writer and for what? for writing an article sharing his own opinion in a website of the SINGHALESE NATIONALIST MOVEMENT. Your comments are not “measured” and they certainly are “personal attacks” on the writer”

one more thing Nimal. IN A WEBSITE OF A SINGHALESE NATIONALIST MOVEMENT IT IS THE DUTY TO GET PERSONAL, PROVOCATIVE AND MAKES STATEMENTS THAT WILL OUTRAGE THOSE WHO ACT LIKE SHEEP.

IF YOU WANT A CIVILIZED MEASURED IMPERSONAL COMMENT OR ARTICLE THEN GO TO THE MAIN MEDIA OF SRI LANKA. I SUGGEST THE MIRROR. SEE HOW YOUR “MEASURED IMPERSONAL”COMMENTS WILL BE EVEN AIRED. PLEASE TRY NOT TO BE A HYPOCRITE ON TOP OF TRYING TO WORM YOUR WAY INTO THIS ORGANIZATION TO SILENCE ANY DISSENTING VOICE TO YOUR BOYFRIENDS ARJUN AND RANIL.

  11. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

I NOTICE THAT THIS ***NIMAL*** IS AN IMPOSTER ON LANKA WEB. SOUNDS LIKE AN IMBECILE TO ME. DISGUSTING, EVEN TO READ THE COMMENTS. TAMILS WRITE UNDER THE GUISE OF SINHALESE NAMES. THIS IS ONE SUCH DECEPTION. EVEN ON OTHER ARTICLES, IT IS THE SAME TONE OF INSULT.

This FELLA should get a job in Mahindapalas Bungalow to clean the Toilets and sweep the garden. The best he could get.

  12. Independent Says:

    Well said Runil
Mar 16 (CP) Colombo- Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe again expressed his stance that the country’s Navy has the right to shoot any intruders entering its waters. In an interview with India’s NDTV the Sri Lankan PM reiterated that Sri Lanka and India are working to resolve the fishermen’s issue, but the country’s navy has the right to shoot anyone who intrudes into its territorial waters. “The Lankan navy has the right to shoot in any part of the country if anyone enters territorial waters, this is nothing new,” the PM told the NDTV.

  13. Independent Says:

    Susantha,
No. Nimal is a true COLOMBIAN. He has acknowledged this long time ago. He has been here for some time. He likes England and UK education, he appreciates good qualities of Suddas which he argued out with me long time ago.

  14. Lorenzo Says:

    SW,

I EXPOSED it a long time ago.

  15. Sooriarachi Says:

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and his boss Ranil are trying to say the Central bank bond issue is above board but they will investigate.?
What I have gathered, reading various articles on this scandal, are noted below.

Raj Rajaratnam was jailed in America for carrying out one of the biggest insider trading frauds in the USA. He was convicted and jailed in the USA
There were also allegations that Raj Rajaratnam was contributing to both the LTTE as well as to the election funds of Democratic Presidential candidates (Clinton and Obama) in the USA
Before, his jailing, Rajaratnam apparently contributed US$5 million to an account managed by Ravi Karunanayake for the UNP. At the time Ranil refused to say how the money would be used. This was under investigation by the Central Bank, at the time this Interim Government was appointed by Sirisena, this year.
Raj Rajaratnam is a childhood friend of Arjun Mahadevan.
Arjun Mahadevan’s son in law (or nephew), Arjun Aloysius’s company in Colombo had been involved in many scandals and there were allegation of corrupt bond trading and dealings by this company.
Ranil appoints Ravi Karunanayake as Minister of Finance but transfers Central Bank to his ministry.
Ranil Appoints his friend’s son Arjun Mahadevan as Central Bank Governor, amidst major protests.
Ranil appoints a UNP member (his private lawyer some say) as the Bank of Ceylon or a state bank Chief.
Central Bank under Arjun Mahadevan auctions one billion 30 year bonds at interest not exceeding 9.75%.
Arjun Aloysius’s company made a last minute bid for 3 billion through Bank of Ceylon at an unprecedent rate of 12.5% and this company further requests a state bank (Bank of Ceylon?) to bid on behalf of his company, few more bids at 12.5%, all adding up to 15 billion?.
Central Bank accepts 10 billion of which 4 billion at 12.5% for 30 years is from Arjun Aloysius’s company.
The traders protested and opposition demanded an investigation and reversal of this Bond Sale.
CB Governor and Ministers say they needed this cash to settle urgent bills, even though urgent funds are collected normally through the issue of short term Bonds and not 30 year Bonds.
Ranil appoints a 3 man investigation panel, all of whom are lawyers who are associated with the “UNP Lawyers Collective” and has no Financial expertise. (Due to more protests, I believe the President has now asked for the appointment of independent investigators).
Some say the profit for Arjun Aloysius’s company would be a staggering 9 billion, which is greater than the money spent on road construction by the previous Government.
This cant be the Yahapalanya, the people who voted for the President expected.
Ravi Karunanayake claims there was no irregularity in this transaction even before a report is received.

  16. Mr. Bernard Wijeyasingha Says:

    Independent:

My grand pappy was a Buddhist and Buddhist Scholar. He was more connected with the Buddhist Sanga than most Singhalese. I am an ardent supporter of the Singhalese nationalist movement. I have proved that time and time again on this website and in Indian websites.

but that DOES NOT GIVE ME THE RIGHT TO USE THIS WEBSITE TO PROMOTE TAMIL DOCTRINES LATER ON. THE SIRISENA COALITION WAS BORN OUT OF THE TAMIL WOMB FOR THE TAMIL CAUSE. THAT IS THE MAIN REASON THEY ARE IN POWER. ANYONE CRITICIZING RAJAPAKSE WHILE SUPPORTING SIRISENA AND MODI INCLUDING MYSELF MEANS ALL MY CREDENTIALS MEAN A HELL OF BEANS

  17. Nimal Says:

    Wijesinghes
Stupid comments and insults to me doesn’t bother me, being a Colombian and a person who appreciate the modern life and reality doesn’t bother me.I am no homo, but happily married had many lady friends that was beyond any of you in numbers, but brought up properly unlike some who bark for the sake of barking.
Truth hurts but to insult our leaders is to insult the wish of the people. Don’t worry because we will have the last laugh in every aspect. By principle we Colombians are brought up to tolerate idiots and odd one but we will win at last.

  18. Lorenzo Says:

    Nimal,

NO ONE voted RUN-NIL to become PM!!
NO ONE voted RAVI to become finance minister!!
NO ONE voted MANGALA to become FM!!

    Who are these PARASITES?

That was NEVER the wish of the people.

People only voted for the SLFP GENERAL SECRETARY to be president. That’s all. And he is NOT a Colombian.

  19. Independent Says:

    Lorenzo,
You are right on two of the above only. Ranil managed to include he becoming PM in the 100 day program , as I remember. But this is limited to 100 days only and he is not refusing it. He himself asking for an election.
He knows he can win if he can get MR to compete with MS. Very few people see this trick of Runil.

I have had enough of MR, Runil , Rajita, Mangala and CBK. All eveil forces have been made use of to defeat another, stronger evil.

We need a strong true Nationalist leadership to force MS to correct path. Unlike MR , he will bend. But the foolish have fallen to Runil’s trick.

  20. Nimal Says:

Wait for the next elections and let the people decide and we must respect their decision, whatever that will be.It’s our patriotic duty to support which ever government in power and the elected leaders must serve the country but not themselves and stash the stolen money of the taxpayers of a poor country. I write as a Colombian who cares for the country of birth and proved that point by investing and happily paying taxes and employing people and demands standards that are in line with the developed countries, where some hypocrites love to live and write rubbish. I am glad the humble people in SL has the same expectations and standards that we enjoy in the West, but sadly our two-tone politicians deny that to them. That’s wrong like denying to our humble people that the wheel is round.
