A majority has mandated to continue the January 08 revelation. No winners or losers. We will develop the country together as one family, the Prime Minister said. PM Ranil Wickramasinghe made the observations in a statement issued on Tuesday (18).Wickramasinghe also thanked all those who helped ensure the holding of a free and fair election.
Former president Mahinda Rajapakse told AFP today that he had conceded defeat in parliamentary elections, but he will work as an opposition member of the legislature.
“My dream of becoming prime minister has faded away. I am conceding. We have lost a good fight,” Rajapakse told AFP. Rajapakse accepted that his United People’s Freedom Alliance had lost even before Elections Chief Mahinda Deshapriya could announce the final results.
“We have won eight districts and the UNP (ruling United National Party) has 11 (out of a total of 22), it means we have lost. It was a difficult fight, ” Rajapakse said.
Official figures showed the same breakdown of results. Remaining three districts were dominated by a minority Tamil party, officials said, adding that no party was set to secure an absolute majority of 113 seats in the 225-member parliament following Monday’s election.
Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said he expected the release of the final party positions by midday Tuesday, while individual votes garnered by candidates would be announced later. Rajapakse cast his ballot on Monday, he expressed confidence that he could return to power as Sri Lanka’s prime minister just months after he was toppled as president.election commissioner Deshapriya said the vote, called a year ahead of schedule by President Maithripala Sirisena who ousted the veteran leader in January, had been one of the most peaceful in Sri Lanka’s history. UNP (45.66%) 5,098,927 Votes and Seats 93 won with all the Muslim Parties amalgamated to UNP (Total with National List -106)
UPFA (42.38%) 4,732,669 Votes Seats 83 won (Total with National List -95)
UNP won by only 366,258
I think UPFA has done very well considering the amount of money the Western agents supposed to have poured into the elections campaign and the destructive and vicious campaign done by President Sirisena himself against his own party and who kept on pulling MR’s leg at every move.
The Real loser is JVP who could win only 4 seats((Total with National List -6) considering that they were promising their vote base that they will form a JVP government in 2020

Neela Maha, A win is a win even by one vote. MR came in late and with KAVI and Viridu could not win elections. Let’s talk about the CRIMINAL the election commissioner. Why did he stop the computer? Who were the experts he had in his office. One has to focusing capturing him before he leaves the country by a people force and not by Political police.

It’s very sad to see the election results. The voters have been lured into voting the UNP and its allies, by various forces, inside and outside of Sri Lanka. It is the first time in history, a party president has campaigned against the main candidate of his own party, all the while claiming that he would be neutral in the election. Whatever the results maybe, irrespective of the defeats in elections as winning and not winning are the norms in elections, the one achievement by MR is, and will be unmatched by any one in history, which is defeating terrorism in Sri Lanka. It’s because terrorism was eradicated from the soil of Sri Lanka, that all these politicians were able to carry out the election campaign freely and without fear of being killed. We have to be ever indebted to MR for it!

I blame the Sinhalese my own race for the defeat of the most courageous and charismatic leader we had in years. I want him to continue and stay on track to defeat all the reactionary forces within and foreign. No need him to stay too long as an MP because this western backed Govt of Ranil the pimp will fall within a year same like before. I bet because they have to give the Tamils and Muslims what they have promised before the election as everyone knows. Let them enjoy for few days or years but not five years.
It is impossible to defeat Mahinda in Kurunegala by a amateur like Akila Viraj. This commissioner did some thing same like last time and he should be investigated and punished before he retires. He too is an agent of the west. The whole election is a farce and I do not trust anyone and I don’t believe that UNP thugs have won it. My beloved country has lost a good,kind,fearless leader for a weak,cunning fox who has lost 29 times before this election.

I think Mahinda has WON AGAINST THE DARKEST POLITICAL FORCES IN LANKA. He has kept to his VALUES, for the Country and himself & family, in spite of dark deeds initiated by CBK/Ranil/Sirisena trio. This to us, is a WIN for Mahinda and the UPFA !!
All the main Elections of 2015, so far, seem flawed and cheated. The meesage coming out of the two Elections (Presidential & General) appear to be to tell MR to keep out of politics ! How can this be, when all the enthiusiastic and huge meetings beforehand for MR & the UPFA proved otherwise ? In both elections, he appears to have lost by a relatively small margin.
Lanka is being weakened Politically and Economically for some sort of ‘take over’ on a long term basis. To serve whom and for what purpose ?

In many peoples mind they feel there has been cheating. For example there were news paper reports of many lots of UNP ballot papers found by the Police in at least 4 areas. Wonder how many lots were not detected. What the Elections Commission must do to clear peoples mind is to prepare a documents which lays out clearly each step involved in the election and how the votes are counted, who is there to observe the counting and how the final tally is done. What steps were taken to prevent cheating in the computer. This way the whole process becomes transparent. He should do it quickly to remove doubt in peoples minds.

A suggestion :
Introduce an English stream of learning and an Information Tech (IT) stream in all major Sinhala/Buddhist schools in ciites and outstation. JVP & BBS ought to see to this type of change happen BEFORE the Conversion folk enter the villages on a large scale and Ranil’s ‘Pokuru’ village idea is implemented. After all, Conversions take place for opportunity in education & jobs. The Sinhala/Buddhist people can learn some English and Information Tech etc without all the Conversion stuff. There is no need to Convert to other religions to learn English & IT education.

It is a tragedy. I have been informed by friends in SL that the whole country seems lost today. A charismatic leader has been defeated because the Sinhalese did not show their courage against the dictator, Sirisena. it is he who did this horrible act of betrayal.
He took his own personal vengeance by writing a 5 page letter and releasing it to the media. This Brutus will be dealt with Karmic laws.
Have we ever seen any president of any country working against his own party? I am ashamed that Sirisena is the President.If we have a way, we should impeach him.

Sri Lanka 2015 parliamentary elections: Final Results
Aug 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe’s United National Party (UNP) emerged as the winner at the parliamentary elections held Monday to elect a new parliament.
The United National Party claimed victory receiving 5,098,927 votes, 45.66 percent of the votes and 93 seats in the 225- member parliament.
The main opposition United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) which backed the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to regain power as the Prime Minister received 4,732,669 or 42.38 percent of votes and 83 seats.
Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK), the major constituent in the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) claimed victory in the Tamil-dominated Northern Province receiving 515,963 or 4.62 percent of votes and 14 seats.
Sri Lanka’s Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna received 4.87 percent of the vote amounting to 543,944 and gained 4 seats.
Eelam People’s Democratic Party and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress each received one seat.

Sri Lanka ruling party gets majority in parliament with106 seats
Aug 18, Colombo: The ruling party of Sri Lanka’s minority government got the majority in the next parliament by winning 93 seats at the general elections held Monday and with the 13 bonus seats has secured 106 seats in the 225-member legislature.
Although falling short of the 113 seats expected, the UNP more than doubled its presence in the new parliament from the 40 seats it had before.
The UNP leader and incumbent Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe is expected to form his government once all the election results including preferential votes are released and confirmed by the Election Commissioner.
The Prime Minister has stated that he will form a national government with the members of other political parties.
However the Tamil party Tamil National Alliance (TNA), which has secured 16 seats inclusive of the 2 bonus seats, and the Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna with a total of six seats including the two bonus seats have indicated that they will not join a national government. They will sit in the opposition and support the government for key legislations on a case by case basis.
The opposition United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), which staged the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s comeback bid as prime minister, has received a total of 95 seats with the 12 bonus seats. The former leader will sit in the new parliament as an opposition MP.
It is speculated that several UPFA members, who are loyal to President Maithripala Sirisena will join the government giving a clear majority to the Prime Minister Wickremasinghe’s government.

Challenge the Election results ! So many people have agreed with us that the Elections (both) were flawed and cheated. It is NOT a case of ungrateful Sinhala people, it is a case of CHEATING AT ELECTIONS, twice, using computers !!
It is great shame that those who know computer operating have not yet challenged the Elections Office.
It will be the Sinhala/Buddhists who will pay a heavy price, again, if a Fed. state is formed for Tamil folk. Others will also get dragged down too, though they think they will not ….

I don’t think there was large scale cheating. TRUTH TO BE TOLD. MR accepted the result.
We have to CORRECT our approach without blaming others at least now.
Had MR promised to scrap 13 amendment (as SWORDB promised SINGHALA ONLY) he would have won 125+ seats and trumped Maru Sira.
UPFA has many UNPers – Thonda, Radhakrishnan, Grero, etc. They will crossover. UPFA has non-UNP My3 people too. They too will play hell.
We have a difficult journey ahead. FIRM POLICIES and UPRIGHT POLITICIANS are needed. The GOLD STANDARD of upright politicians is 1956 SWORDB SINGHALA ONLY IN 24 HOURS.
The time of HENRY FORD who said YOU CAN HAVE A FORD IN ANY COLOR AS LONG AS IT IS BLACK is gone.
People to parliament LINK is TOOOO LONG now. They have to go through this council, that council, this MP, that minister, this secretary, etc. It has to be shortened. This is what VOTERS mean when I talked to many in MR voting areas. This was why MR was not aware of what was going on down there.

Whatever the ugly machinations of CBK, the crafty and cruel game played by Pres. Sirisena surpasses all of this election’s manipulations, in the way he has succeeded in splitting the SLFP – tha nationalist party which carried the brunt of responsibility for the preservation of Sri Lanka’s history by using his divided loyalties to favour ONE SIDE in order to bring about the split, and this result. He did this without any sense of moral conscience and without understanding the oath of Office that he had taken.
The split that he created will determine Sri Lanka’s Future in ways that are too worrisome to imagine.
He permitted and joined in with CBK’s Game of Vengeance being played out on the Party that represented most of the people of Sri Lanka, just in order to wreak vengeance on ONE person – ex-President Mahinda Rajapakse..
President Sirisena demonstrated that his selfishness far exceeds his sense of responsibility for the TRUST the people placed on him in January 2015, towards preserving the security and integrity of the COUNTRY.
Now it will be up to the Opposition to counter any moves to dismember the country and permit the international conspiracy to take effect. If ex-President Mahinda Rajapakse is called upon to lead the Opposition at least there will be possibility of some Peace of Mind for those dedicated to preserving the Unitary status of the island and who have shed tears for this tiny island’s political plight pitted against all the conspiracies and tyrannies over the centuries and now being plotted against it.
WHY and HOW, despite all the disastrous aspects of the conspiracy/political association which was marketed as Yahapalana, that took the country through a 6month hiatus with a focus on a witch hunt and NO DEVELOPMENT, somehow managed to mesmerise the people into voting the way they did, is the most BAFFLING FACT of ALL….

Moda-Lorenzo is still trying to get others to believe the FICTION that he ACTUALLY WORKED to bring VOTES to the UPFA, whereas he only WORKED to FURTHER DISRUPT and DESTROY everything the UPFA achieved and built under MR.
Even “Independent” says Lorenzo is TRYING TO CREATE “BIG TROUBLE” for Sri Lanka, but knows not what.
Independent has not been studying and analyzing LORENZO and his TEAM of Avatars (eg. Moshe Dayan and, Kumar Moshe, to name but two he values) as I have over two to three decades of hosting and bogging at Patriotic websites and bulletin boards before the advent of the Web! He embedded these avatars decades ago deep in the bowels of patriotic websites including one or two of my own, and these avatars are functioning under deep cover even at LankaWeb!
So, the Independent covers up his lack of knowledge by adopting the “everyone has a right to express his opinion” dishwater standard. Hey, by that “who cares, anything goes, what me worry?” standard, even child abusers have a right to advocate child abuse … because they were born that way … and would have an inalienable “birthright” to ply their trade!
Independent, you sound like a lukewarm fly-by-night patriot who cares little for what happens to Sri Lanka, but many of us, in addition to our own personal love for our Motherland, have very large families, and thousands of friends and colleagues whose survival is at stake in Sri Lanka. Too bad you are unwilling to fight fiercely for your Motherland; that is your choice, but don’t try to make EXCUSES and DEFEND the PROVEN TRAITOR and BACKSTABBER LORENZO!

The Sirisena will walk into infamy as the greatest traitor in Sri Lanka’s chequered history. He has definitely tampered with the outcome of the election by disturbing the smooth functioning of a political party on the eve of an election. Step by step what happened and the legality of his actions should be investigated. He has completely betrayed the trust of the nation, the decency of the due process and the honesty expected of a President of a nation – when he has already mentioned that he will be a neutral party to the electoral process.

100% agreed!! This is the need of the hour!! I believe Ananda USA has done or is doing something along these lines as well.
As for myself, I intend to start a blog to highlight the wisdom and culture that is our heritage from the ancient Hela times.
All I have to go on at the moment are the writings of Prof. Nalin (and google of course!), but will probably need more help in finding data. Since I am not resident in SL at the moment, I will have to wait until i go back home for holidays to talk to folk who are in touch with traditions handed down through the years.
If someone can point me towards any resources, I will kindly appreciate it. I will add a link here once I am on the way with the site..

What is needed here is to keep our age old VALUE SYSTEM intact, within our Sinhala/Buddhist culture. Language and Religion matters, but the villager has to have some knowledge of the English Language in order to know what is going in the now Globalised World. Also IT Education i.e. knowledge of the computer.
I recall that it was Karuna (ex-LTTE, Eastern Prov) who said that “give us what Colombo has”.
Re absorbing ideas from abroad : We need to identify what is good and what is bad for Lanka society, and let grow ONLY what is good from abroad. Lanka Sociologists will have to do this task and get the information to Grass Roots Organisations of all in Lanka, especially the Sinhala/Buddhists. We have to bear in mind that young minds can get ruined with the wrong type of information from abroad. Example : How to remove porn from computers.
We shall have to use modern methods to keep our age old Value System intact.

For NON-POLITICAL Grass Roots Organisations (cutting right through the Politicial Parties), a friend of mine suggests education of the villager on the following topics :
(1) Teaching of the correct HISTORY of Lanka in Sinhala/Buddhist schools (and all schools too).
(2) Protection of the Environment & Water Rights : With Ranil’s ideas of Privatization (Profit Motive) even regarding Water, and Pokuru villages, the Sinhala/Buddhist village folk in particularl had best be aware of the troubles ahead.
(3) Swearing Allegiance to the Nation of Sri Lanka and singing at least one part of the National Anthem daily in all schools all over Lanka, in front of the National Lion Flag of Lanka. I am adding that the authorities ought to give new meaning to the stripes in front of the Sword held by the Lion. The Sword for Justice and Stripes the problems common to all, to cut through and eliminate.
To digress : We might ask at this point in time at least – What has happened to the container loads of GLYPHOSATE that Killi Mahendran had imported through his company.
Lankans ought to search out and expose this poisonous material to the authrities before it is too late.

Chandrasena Pandithage …. Thank you for looking at this. I myself have not verified the data you presented, but those increases in the number of REJECTED VOTES are TRULY ASTOUNDING!
Already, the Elections Commissioner and the so called foreign “Election Monitoring Agencies” and even the IGP are singing Hosannas and whitewashing the Election Results as PERFECT!
This is in addition to the ILLEGAL Election Day INTERVENTIONS by the highest official in the land … the IL Presidente’!!
I think if all of this is TRUE, it SMELLS TO HIGH HEAVEN, and the UPFA should demand an INVESTIGATION and FILE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS cases at the SUPREME COURT on ALL of these issues!

Yes I certainly will. I think there is evidence on the contribution for example of tamil artisans, in the construction processes of the ancient kingdoms through the centuries, which will shows communal harmony.
I am not a trained historian. Just a guy with a desire to show something of his ancestors so that our future generations would know,learn from and build upon that knowledge. So any help anyone can give me will be much appreciated.
