SINHALESE PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE FULL CONTROL OF THE POLITICAL DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IN SRI LANKA.
Posted on April 11th, 2018

By Noor Nizam, Peace and Political Activist, Political Communication Researcher, SLFP Stalwart and Convener – The Muslim Voice – April 11th., 2018.

POLITICAL PARTIES BASED ON COMMUNITY, RELIGION AND COMMUNAL BASIS HAS TO BE BANNED IN SRI LANKA BY THE MAJORITY SINHALESE COMMUNITY AND NATIONALIST SINHALA FORCES IMMEDIATELY UNDER ANY NEW CONSTITUTION TO BE PRESENTED IN PARLIAMENT. FOR THIS ALL SINHALA FORCES, INCLUDING THE MAHA SANGHA, THE SLFP, UNP, JVP AND OTHER PATRIOTIC POLITICAL PARTIES INCLUDING THE SLPP/JO SHOULD GIVE THEIR FULLEST SUPPORT. 72% SINHALA MP’s (voters) CAN EASILY DO THIS. MINORITY REPRESENTATION IN THE NATIONAL PARTIES SHOULD BE BY MEMBERSHIP AND BY BEING ELECTED FOR OFFICE IN THOSE PARTIES.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY VOTE BANK CREATION BY MINORITY COMMUNITY POLITICAL LEADERS WHO TRADE THE VOTE BANK FOR SELFISH PERSONAL BENEFITS FORGOING THE REAL BENEFITS FOR WHICH THE MINORITY GROUPS, ESPECIALLY THE MUSLIM VOTERS CAN REAP THE TRUE BENEFIT OF THEIR POLITICAL ASPIRATIONS AND INSPIRATIONS.

In 1994, when it found an opportunity to supported by R. Premadasa to reduce the cut-off point in proportional representation from 12.5 to 5 per cent, the SLMC joined the UNP. That was the beginning of the “DEMOCRATIC DOWNFALL” of the aspirations and inspiration of the Sri Lanka Muslim community, because the late M.H.M. Ashraf started to trade with the Muslim vote bank to gain ministerial and deputy ministerial positions, high government statutory post, diplomatic posts and many other perks for his stooges/henchaiyas.

Today this has become a MENACE and a SICKNESS in the democratic political process of our country. THIS HAS TO STOP FORTHWITH FOR A HEALTHY POLITICAL PROCESS TO TAKE PLACE IN OUR COUNTRY and the RIGHT for the voters to decide what their parties and the majority who are SINHALA VOTERS to decide what is best for the country they should do.

I very much agree with you.

The only thing that I do not agree is praising SLFP.

It was India and Indian Colonial Parasites who got hold of Banda and lead us Sinhalese Buddhists, Muslims and Christians to the current situation.

It is time all Sinhalese forget their religious differences and unite and stand up to India, Indian Empire and Indian Colonial Parasites.

  2. Kumari Says:

I agree with the writer. Apparently it was CJ K Siripavan who approved the 19th A and the 5 year term of the government which has robbed the people of their right to get rid of the Yahapalanaya for five years.

Nizam, You and Kanthar Balanathan have very positive thoughts about Sri Lanka and making it again a country where we all can live like members of the same family as it had been before G.G.Ponnambalams and Chelvanayagams. If not for the likes of them we would never have had the unfortunate terrorism to face with. What is the ultimate result ? Are we better off today than we were before the advent of the adventurous idea of a separate Eelam State for the Tamils.

Even the Muslim politicians began thinking differently after these stupid separatist ideology of the Tamil politicians.

Did you see what happened in Geneva when Dr.Nalaka Godahewa tookup the case of the Sri Lanka Armed Force and the USA Resolution against Sri Lanka. The Tamils of the Diaspora were the enemies. There language was rude and abusive. They made no effort to be friendly; They were aggressive like the terrorists themselves. So how can we ever think of having reconciliation with these Tamils of this mentality.

We can go back to what Sri Lanka was only by a U-turn of the Tamils’ mental attitude. If there are intelligent more understanding Tamils, who will accept that as every country in the world has a majority and minorities, in Sri Lanka the Sinhala are the Majority. Accepting that fact is not selling the self respect, or their own cultural and religious back ground, nor giving up the Tamil identity. It is merely becoming one with the rest of the people of Sri Lanka without the bias of majority and minority, sharing every thing both in joy and in sadness.

I think it is now for a group of good hearted intelligent and generous Tamils to force the Tamil politicians and the Tamil people make a U-turn from separatism and the Eelam Dream to become Sri Lankans.

Both the executive presidency and proportionate representation must be removed. These two are the biggest threats to democracy. Sadly, most people are foolishly short-sighted that they don’t see the distance. When politically beneficial to their crooks, they support executive presidency not able to understand how minorities are made kingmakers by it.

President Sirisena can do a national favour by keeping him promise (and the promise of Chandrika and Mahinda) in abolishing executive presidency.

  6. NAK Says:

Exactly! The only sure way to rid this country of the plagues of race, religion and party divisions.

  7. Ratanapala Says:

Golden words from Noor Nizam. Minority selfish politics has been the bane of Sri Lanka for almost a century and more. The imperialists and after them India is meddling in Sri Lanka on this excuse. This must stop.

Only way this can stop is by patriotic Sinhalese both in the SLFP and the UNP joining hands to support a common candidate such as Gotabhaya from a third party such as Pohottuwa to become the President and form a strong government that need not rely on the meddlsome minorities who try to be power brokers to fulfil their selfish, unpatriotic and traitorous demands.

UNP and SLFP have passed their “use by date” or the date of expiry. These two parties who got mired in minority politics have led Sri Lanka to what it is today. There is nothing in these two parties to salvage. It is far better for Sinhalese to realize that by and large there are no major differences between those who subscribe to their politics. This is also a good way to get rid of the “bulky, stenchy, smelly garbage” that the two parties have collected over the years as ‘politicians. Sri Lanka needs new educated disciplined patriotic politicians who are not out to enrich themselves and laws to keep any black sheep in dungeons for long periods without parole.

Democracy and Human Rights are only refinements in our social contract with soceity to have better standards of living and personal freedom. They are no where to be found in this world. We can see how politicians in the US, the UK and elsewhere keep ordinary voters hoodwinked and igonorant by telling them unvarnished lies. One can only work towards these goals as peace and higher standards of living become possible.

These are now used by countries who call themselves “Exceptional” and “Unique” – meaning that they are above the others. to castigate smaller countries and communities to get them to bend to thier ways so that they can rob and steal resources at their will and pleasure. This too only to enrich themselves and not the common people in their own countries.

Countries such as Sri Lanka must go through a period of disciplined hard work forgetting common place politics. Sri Lanka needs a new political culture and new politics away from racist minority ideologies. As Noor Nizam says only way this can be done is through Sinhalese uniting first and electing a government that need not rely on the minorities – most of whom are working for outside powers such as India, US, UK and a few Middle Eastern fiefdoms.
