Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa along with Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and MP Basil Rajapaksa visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy today (14).

A large crowd of Kandy public and several Joint Opposition members had organized a warm welcome for the Presidential hopeful Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

After paying homage to the Temple of the Tooth, he received the blessings of the Chief Prelates of the Asgiri and Malwatu chapters as well.

Later, he visited the Sri Thelwa Vinayagar Pulleyar Kovil in Katukele. He received the blessings of the Chief Guardian of the Kovil Swami Ramachandran Sri Krishnamurthi. He was joined by Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa as well.

Former Defense Secretary, then, visited the Meera Makkam Mosque with the Opposition Leader. The President of the mosque Hilahi Abdeen conducted a special ritual to invoke blessings on the two brothers.

Later in the day, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa visited the Gatambe Rajopavanarama Viharaya and had a cordial discussion with the Chief Incumbent of the Vihara, Ven. Kappetiyagoda Siriwimala Thero.

The Thero advised the Presidential Candidate stating, This is the last chance. If you miss this chance, the country, all of us, will be over”.

Rohana Hettarchchi, the director of the PAFFREL organization, says that this time it is likely that 1, 2 and 3rd prefernces will have tobe counted because it seems likely that because of many strong candidates over 5 laks of votes will be lost to the two majority party candidates.

However, that is predicated on the assumption that the remaining votes will be nearly evenly split between the two major candidates.

This ASSUMPTION is also SEVERELY FLAWED, because it fails to recognize the MASSIVE SHIFT in major party allegiance that has taken place among the Sinhala voters.

Gota will win by a MASSIVE SHIFT of Sinhala votes towards him, and a much smaller, but positive, shift of minority votes towards him as well!

This is an election in which the BEAN COUNTING STATISTICIANS who analyze past data of normal elections but exclude outlying landslide election data, and who do not account for the sea change in voter sentiment, will be caught with their PANTS DOWN below well below their knees!

  2. Vaisrawana Says:

Totally agree with @Ananda-USA. I also think that PAFFREL Director Rohana Hettiarachchi’s assumption is flawed because it is unlikely that the voters will mark preferences when voting at any presidential election including particularly the upcoming one. The situation is different at a parliamentary election, where the preferential system has some meaning.

“This is an election in which the BEAN COUNTING STATISTICIANS who analyze past data of normal elections but exclude outlying landslide election data, and who do not account for the sea change in voter sentiment, will be caught with their PANTS DOWN below well below their knees!”

    Exactly!

The sea change is found not only among the Sinhalese voters. It is found among the ordinary Tamils and Muslims as well in the wake of the April 21 bombings. Security concerns are a common factor for all communities. Under the present regime, the national security issue is entirely forgotten. Gota’s credentials in that respect are unquestionable. So, I am even more optimistic about a higher pro-Gota voter turn out among them than was normal in previous elections for a presidential candidate.

Gatambe Rajopavanarama Viharaya and its Chief Incumbent of the Vihara, Ven. Kappetiyagoda Siriwimala Thero
advised the Presidential Candidate stating, “This is the last chance. If you miss this chance, the country, all of us, will be over”. Of course this could happen unless Gota keep away those former & present Government corrupted politicians.
