A two-thirds majority in Parliament is needed at the forthcoming the General Elections to amend the Constitution in order to sort out issues in the country, Prime Minister and SLPP Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday.

Speaking at an SLPP representatives’ meeting at Baddegama last morning, Mr. Rajapaksa said a good team was needed to execute the proposals made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during the presidential election campaign.

The country’s development, which was growing rapidly, collapsed during the previous government’s tenure. This was due to the fact that the President and the Prime Minister of Yahapalana Government represented two different camps. The President disregarded the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister didn’t pay attention to the President. As a result, the people suffered and not even a culvert was built,” he said.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa said a group of legislators who know how to get the job done should be elected to parliament. We have fielded a set of candidates who posses the knowledge of not only about the country buts also the world. They know how the world is evolving,” he said.

Ven. Baddegama Samitha Thera, Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Mohan P. Silva, Isuru Dodangoda, Sampath Athukorale and other SLPP members attended the meeting. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
