Basil Rajapaksa has handed over his resignation letter to the Secretary General of Parliament.

The letter of resignation was handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake at the Parliament premises today (09).

Former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa stated that he handed over the letter to the Secretary General of Parliament this morning stating that he has resigned from the post of National List MP.

He said the decision was taken to allow the most suitable person to be summoned to Parliament through the national list.

Speaking at a special media briefing held at the SLPP party headquarters this morning, he stated that he will no longer be involved in political and public administration activities in the country.

Meanwhile, the wife of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa also left for the United States this morning.

Basil Rajapaksa was elected to the Ninth Parliament on July 08, 2021 from the National List representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna as a Member of Parliament.

He then served as the Minister of Finance for several months.
