Belgian Govt. to provide European technology to develop SL’s ports

The Belgium Government expressed consent to provide modern European technology required to develop Sri Lanka’s ports.

The decision was announced during a special discussion held between Belgium Ambassador to Sri Lanka Didier Vanderhasselt and Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva this morning.

The Minister requested Belgium’s support in the development of the ports of Trincomalee and Galle, while also extending lucrative opportunities for Belgian investors to actively participate in these undertakings.

Discussions were also held seeking possibilities to train local youth at the Belgium yacht  boatyard in southern Sri Lanka aiming at providing employment and also to establish a yacht  marina at the Galle Port. 

The minister said discussions were taking place for plans to strengthen maritime development activities between Sri Lanka and Belgium and expressed gratitude to the Belgium Ambassador for all the support and assistance extended to make such efforts successful. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
