ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ සංගමය විසින් නිකුත් කර ඇති මාධ්‍ය නිවේදනයක් මෙහි දැක්වෙයි.
දේශපාලන වේදිකාවන් වල ජනාධිපතිවරණ අපේක්ෂකයින් විසින් ඔවුන්ගේ දේශපාලන රැස්වීම වලදී ඔවුන් බලයට පත්වූ විට ඉරිදිරියේදී රටේ ගැටළු විසදීමට කෘතීම බුද්ධිය වැනි නවීන තාක්ෂනය භාවිතා කිරීමට සුදානම් බව පවසින් ඒ සදහා ඔවුන් සතුව එම ක්‍රියාවලීන්ට යොදාගතහැකි පරිගණක වැඩසටහන් පවතින බව සදහන් කරමින් දැවැන්ත පුළුල් තිරවල නියැදී ප්‍රදර්ශනය කිරීමක් දක්නට ලැබේ.
ජනතාවගේ ගැටළු නිරාකරණයට කෘතීම බුද්ධිය වැනි තාක්ෂණයන් භාවිතා කීරීමට ජනාධිපතිවරණයට ඉදිරිපත්වෙන පිරිස් පෙළබිම ඉතා කාලෝචිත ක්‍රියාවක් ලෙස අප ශ්‍රී ලංකා තොරතුරු තාක්ෂණ සංගමය අගයන අතර එහෙත් අන්තර්ජාලයේ වීඩියෝ පට සංස්කරණය සදහා තිබෙන සංරචක උපයෝගී කරගනිමින් දෘශ්‍ය ප්‍රයෝග ජනතාවට ඉදිරිපත්කොට ජනතාව නොමග යැවීමට ජනාධිපතිවරණ අපේක්ෂකයින් කටයුතු කිරීම කිසිසේත්ම අනුමත කල නොහැක.

I take my hat off to Sajith for at least trying to do something which is current.
To my mind our local IT professionals are only coders which anybody can do once he/she knows a few languages which operate at the highest level. I haven’t seen a single forum maintained by Sri lankans on matters connected with technology. Nor have I seen SL names appearing in IT or engineering forums that I have visited. It is mostly Indian or ME names besides the european once that one may find. I have inquired from couple of IT graduates as to how much they have learnt on Hardware part, but they seem to have done very little. To my mind it is the ‘digital logic level’ and the ‘microarchitecture level’ that are most important in digital technology; not coding. I find that there is lot of enthusiasm among parents to direct their children for digital technology.
During the last few days I have been trying to reset the data in the toner chip of an expensive digital printer using a thing called I2C protocol common in many electronic devises and for that I needed something like a USB port to connect the chip. I had to roam places like Pettah, Borella etc to search a suitable device. In all these places the shops were full of customers and I had to wait at least fifteen minutes to get a chance to speak. However I found that the customers were either students with their parents of just technicians looking for parts.
I appeal to this community (IT professionals) to launch a website and create a forum for those who are interested to communicate. Sri lankans should be encouraged to make a habit to visit such sites and exchange information like the Indians do.

I mostly Agree with your commentson AI, but disagree on the importance and relevance of programming/coding.
First, Sajith’s proposal to popularize and use AI in SL is good. But, is he talking about AI with any level of personal and appropriate/relevant knowledge? I don’t think a GCE O/L failure who received a PIN PASS degree in the UK without attending courses or passing exams like other students, just because he was the then President’s son, would be a CREDIBLE advocate for AI. Ignorant KEYWORD spouters pretending to be knowledgeable are the bane of scientific organizations as well. They are dime-a-dozen and usually ridiculed.
Yes, digital logic level and microarchitecture level issues are critical, especially in electronic hardware, that is where most money lies in that field. But, what makes them “smart” is the “software” that is either loaded on demand from some form of storage, or is embedded in the hardware itself. As a result, efficient programming/coding is as important in hardware as much as software executing on general purpose computers. Digital workers are casually divided into “hardware” and “software” types but, speaking as a person involved in developing ROBOTIC devices, I find both to be equally important and indispensible.
On the other hand, I STRONGLY agree that currently most Sri Lankan students in IT related fields are ignorant of hardware issues. That is gradually changing now with the advent of low-cost robotics. There is not only a dearth of high-level information sources in Sri Lanka on digital hardware, but very few places to acquire digital electronics parts. The places that do sell such products, have a VERY LIMITED inventory, compared to what we can get in the USA from places such as Digi-Key, Mouser, Arrow Electronics, etc. and of course for those of us shopping for bargains, eBay and Amazon.
I also agree that there is a disturbing deficiency of Sri Lankans contributing to articles and discussions on these topics in online fora.

An AI program, or a device in which the program is embedded, is only as good as the quality of the “training” and “learning” that went into making the AI program functional.
Many common devices, for example the now omnipresent Roomba Robotic Vacuum cleaner, have embedded AI programs made functional by many thousands of hours of training.
There are also many AI programs available to analyze Stock Market data for making investment decisions.
But, unanticipated events that lie outside the training database, can completely confuse the AI program and wreck the device or use that depends on it.
Many political parties also use AI programs to predict the outcomes of elections. But, these programs are completely confused by VOTER SENTIMENTS that they have not been trained on.
That is why the world was ASTONISHED by the Election of President Donald Trump in the USA, to such an extent they still trying to figure out who manipulated the Election!
The looming Presidential Election in Sri Lanka on Nov 16, 2019 has all the hall marks of just such an election that may CONFOUND traditional election forecasters using statistical models and AI programs, but ignoring wide swings in VOTER SENTIMENT!

Yes, I agree that software is also important. Even the ISA (Instruction Set Architecture) at the lowest level is a form of software. By manipulating it the creators of ARM company of UK have made huge gains (US Dollars 70 billion) for a company that started off with a bank loan of just 10,000 pounds. Our guys who claim to be super intelligent should capitalize on the opportunities available. I think they are trying.
Yesterday I visited the Engineering exhibition sponsored by IESL at BMICH which believe is a huge success. I found two Colombo university guys displaying an app that sends messages automatically to an ambulance from the ECU of a car in case of a serious accident. They were using an Arduino uno board. I asked them whether they can do an app that would stall a car through ECU if the driver fall sleepy. They immediately said that such an app has already been developed by a Sri Lankan team from Moratuwa uni. This shows that these guys are in touch with current trends and practices.
The funny thing is what our guys develop are being sold to us by foreigners. One example is the that face recognition system that was developed by Moratuwa guys in association with Dialog was employed by a Malaysian company to do street lighting plus identification of road users. That Malaysian company has been hired either by CMC or the Port City.
Though I commended Sajith in this case, that does not mean I endorse him for the presidency. He cannot simply synchronize with our culture and religion. As you know sincing (the term used in software development for connecting various packages) is very important. And that is what our former leaders including MR has failed to do. For their children visiting night clubs has been more important than learning the culture and Sri lankan values through avenues such as daham pasala. Perhaps it is still not too late.
