“For the Fallen”
Posted on May 16th, 2015

(From the Poem by Robert Laurence Binyon(1869-1943)

They went with songs to the battle; they were young,

Straight of limb, true of eye, steady, and aglow

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,

They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.”

As we approach another anniversary of the Humanitarian Operations by the security forces, let us pay tribute to those we lost in the 33- year conflict in Sri Lanka.

Let us not forget their sacrifice, their pain and their determination to rid this country of the LTTE. For those who perished in those 33 years, and for those who bear the cruel scars of war, let us be ever grateful.

In recent weeks, there has been an effort by some to belittle the gargantuan task performed by Sri Lanka’s security forces to rid the nation of the cancer of terrorism. This is unacceptable. In spite of political differences and personal grudges, all Sri Lankans of every ethnicity should be grateful to those who gave their lives, limbs, and blood for the preservation of peace in Sri Lanka.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM!
