Expressing disappointment over the unprecedented delay in appointing the Cabinet, Ven Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera told The Nation that he was appalled by what has been happening in the political arena in the post-election period.
The Ven. Thera, who heads the National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) and is a strong advocate of good governance who openly supported the coalition led by the United National Party (UNP) at the recently concluded general election, expressed absolute disappointment with the conduct of politicians, especially after the election results were released. They are fighting for ministerial posts and don’t seem to care about the country,” he said.
While conceding that there were some positives achieved during the 100-Days Program, especially in the conduct of a free and fair election, Ven. Sobitha Thera said that he was disappointed by President Sirisena’s decision to get involved in party activities. This has distracted him,” Sobitha Thera said.
The Thera also expressed serious concern over what he feels is a general tendency for politicians to betray the trust of the people. The NMSJ, along with representatives of other civil organizations in the good governance initiative, met with the Prime Minister on Thursday and urged him to ensure that the unfinished work of the 100 Days Program gets done as soon as possible. They have also urged the Prime Minister to go for a new Constitution turning the Parliament into a Constitutional Assembly instead of going for amendments.

What is this crook is talking about. If there is justice how come all these Colombo Wallahs are so super rich with their wealth stacked away in India and the West.

Rev. Sobitha, Sir,
I am glad your eyes have opened however belatedly. With your ideas for a perfect snow-white government which only exists in your imagination you along with others have ruined this country. President Mahinda Rajapakse was doing so well but so many were jealous and told various stories about his corruption, how he has mansions all over the island, how he has race horses from Buckingham palace, Lamborghinis for the sons to race and $18 Billion in his savings account etc. So a noble and great leader was toppled by a set of lies uttered by people like you, Rev. Rathana, Champika, Anura Dissanayaka etc. My3 did intense investigations with help from the West, India and the FCID which was created specifically for this purpose. At the end they found MR only had one house in Medamulana, not a house even in Colombo, none of the things they had accused him of were found to be true.
Then you got your protégé My3 installed as President who promised to bring Yahapalanaya in 100 days. What happened in the 100days? My3 installed Ranil W as Prime Minister stating that he was forced to do so by India and Britain. This was done while there was already a Prime Minister in Parliament. Then he installed Shirani Bandaranaiyaka as Chief Justice for a day by passing all normal procedures while we already had a Chief Justice. She then resigned after one day and he installed another one without any due procedure.
Ranil W installed a Catholic/Christian Cabinet which proceeded to remove all the appointments done by MR from Govt Depts and Corporations. After complaining bitterly about MR having family members in Govt, MY3 installed his brother as Head of Telecom Dept, while Ravi Karunanaike (Karupaiah) decided to install his BIL who was a Police Sergeant as the head of the insurance corporation. But the worst was yet to come. Ranil W brought the Ministry of Finance under him and installed Arjun Mahendran as head of Central Bank and Paskaralingam as head of Treasury. Arjun then pulled a bond scam on which much as been written which is supposed to have cost the country $5000 million. It was a clear case of insider trading. For a similar crime Raj Rajaratnam LTTE financier is in jail in USA. Please correct me if my numbers are wrong. The COPE report which was produced was not published since My3 decided to dissolve the parliament to save Ranil W because there was a no confidence motion against him and also to prevent the COPE report being published. My3 has told reporters that he had asked Ranil W to remove Arjun M. To date noting has been done.
MR retired to his home and was enjoying retirement when lakhs of people began to come to his house begging him to run for the Parliamentary elections. My3 did not want to even nominate MR for UPFA. However very reluctantly he did. Then what he did out does all the wrongs he had done earlier. My3 took a court injunction to prevent Central Committee of UPFA from meeting, sacked the two General secretaries. He got information from National Intelligence that UPFA is going to win 113 seats. To prevent his own party from winning and to ensure that UNP wins he wrote a 5 page letter to MR telling him that he will not be appointed as Prime Minister under any circumstances. He then went on tv and read his 5 page letter to reinforce it and sacked 13 members of the CC and appointed his own. All these activities were completely illegal and may be the reason why UPFA lost by a narrow margin. The Election Commissioner or the Supreme Court has grounds to annul the election based on My3’s actions.
