Eliminate threats to National Security

A few years ago our beloved motherland was a country more dangerous to live in than the contemporary Syria or Iraq due to terrorist threats that loomed all over the country from Kebbitigollawa in the North Central to Moneragala in the Uva and Godapitiya in the South.

Five leaders of this country miserably failed to eliminate the 30 years of terrorist menace.  One of them gave arms, ammunition, funds and made over 600 security service personnel (Police officers) to surrender in the hope of bribing Prabhakaran to give up terrorism  and two of them yet alive made every efforts to bow down to the terrorists by offering them more than what they demanded.

It was in a country where people had lost all hopes of a tomorrow, people refrained from undertaking any form of community or family travel and even travelling alone to distant places even when the death of a close relative occurred, parents were highly worried until the safe return of their schooling children, husbands and wives restrained from travelling together with the hope of at least one of them being alive for the sake of their children, that people elected Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa as the President of the country in the year 2005 trusting in his pledge to rid the country of 30 years of the terrorist menace. He gave this pledge despite the entire coastal areas of the country being devastated by the 2004 Tsunami disaster, and the whole world being drastically affected by the global economic, banking, and financial crises and the local economy being ruined by the old hag bandit queen with a commode face.

As it was pledged the former President vanquished terrorism from the soil of this country within a short period of 3 ½ years freeing us from terrorism, and established a peaceful atmosphere making it possible for anyone to travel to any part of the country at any time of the day without any form of fear and suspicion.

The accidental finding of a new suicide jacket and a cache of arms and ammunition from a house in Chavakachcheri and another cache of ammunition including an RPG from the Mannar area show that the terrorists have not given up their terrorist objectives despite this government’s shameless genuflecting before the TNA who were proxies of the terrorists during the war time, more or less similar to the three former rulers mentioned above.  It is reported that there are more than 4,000 former terrorists who have escaped the rehabilitation mechanism.

It is highly appreciable that the former President who considers safety and security of the motherland and its people more important than his own life and anything in the world became highly alarmed about the new findings and immediately called Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and cautioned him about the new findings and urged him to take immediate appropriate action to thoroughly investigate about these findings.

Despite that the government seems to be making jokes about the findings, and politicize the matter instead of handling it as a serious security issue. The myopic Prime Minister belittling the gravity of the issue has said that it is normal to find such cache of arms in countries where there were wars and even a bundle of World War II love letters have been found in a European country.  It has been found during the preliminary investigation that the suicide jacket and the cache of arms and ammunition were destined to be transported to Wellawatte in Colombo and when this fact was mentioned by the former Minister Prof. G.L.Peiris in a media conference in Colombo, the myopic Prime Minister has ridiculed the former Minister and we understand that he is to be grilled in this connection.

At the same time the pro-devolutionist and the lapdog of Eunuch Sirisena, Governor of the Northern Province Reginald Cooray has made a statement saying that the suicide jacket had been destined to attach the President.  He has also attributed that those who could not stomach the reconciliation process had been engaged in a campaign to sabotage the process, and implied that this issue is one such attempt. Therefore he should be thoroughly interrogated on the authenticity of this statement.

The terrorist proxy TNA and the red elephant JVP hooligans remain silent on this issue but megalomaniac Prabhakaran’s Brother-in-Law, Northern Provincial Councillor Sivajilingam has attempted to attribute that the suicide jacket and the cache of arms belong to an undisclosed party in the South.

The Defense Secretary Mr. Karunasena Hettiarachchi, who is grossly unfit to hold this highly responsible post, even before the commencement of investigations, has said that the Chavakachcheri cache poses no threat to national security, although it has been pointed out that the arms cache had been moved there recently by the suspect in custody. He has irresponsibly said that such findings are being made on and off.

The Former Defence Secretary Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has also called for a comprehensive investigation into the detection. He has said those who hadn’t surrendered to the military at the conclusion of the conflict hadn’t undergone rehabilitation and they could pose a serious threat to National security.  It should also be recalled that the Mahinda Rajapaksa government in early April, 2014 thwarted an attempt to revive the LTTE. In this incident troops killed three LTTE operatives, including Kajeepan Ponniah Selvanayagam alias Gopi and Sundaralingam Kajeepan alias Thevian during a skirmish in a jungle area at Nedunkerny in the Vanni.

Commenting on the current situation, Defense analysts claim what is needed is not a war of words and not politicizing the issue but a concerted effort to get to the bottom of it and take action to preempt possible threats to national security.

It is a matter of prime importance that all peace loving people of this country should join together to demand the government to conduct a thorough investigation on this matter, as it has been emphasized the former President and the former Defense Secretary, eliminate all forms of threats to national security, and ensure that the country will not fall once again to terrorist threats.(End)
