British Opposition Leader, Jeremy Corbyn said that until Sri Lanka’s Tamils achieve justice and self-determination the “war is not over”.

Addressing a meeting organized by ‘Tamils for Labour’ at the committee room in the Houses of Parliament last week, Corbyn said the Labour Party is committed to the cause of the Tamil people.

Although it is said that 2016 marks the seventh anniversary of the end of the conflict, it was not the end until Tamils achieve justice, self-expression and self-determination, he said.

Corbyn, who is also the Leader of UK’s Labour Party, further noted: “You have to go into the question of the human rights abuses, the camps that were set up, the missing people, the lack of freedom for journalists and independent observers, and about the issue being properly being taken up at the UN.

“Those issues have to be dealt with. Unless you solve the issue of the rights of people for their cultural identity, their rights, their language, their freedom, their ability to organise themselves as a community, then the war is not over, the conflict is not over. The situation will only rear its head again.

“Thousands have died during that war, thousands have lost their lives and families have suffered. Do we say it’s all over? No we don’t.

“When it comes to trade treaties, they must include a very clear definition of what human rights abuses are. If the trade partner is abusing human rights…then quite simply, we should not be treating them as a normal equal trading partner, we should put all the demands and pressure we would put for anybody else where there is abuse of rights going on. We, as a party, are very committed to the issues of human rights and justice.

“We are very committed to the rights of peoples, Tamil people, in this case, to achieve their justice, their self-expression and their self-determination.

“When I was first elected to parliament in 1983, there was a useful rule that any MP could take up any immigration case in the country, wherever it was. So every MP had the power to intervene on behalf of an asylum applicant to make representations to the home office. Because of the work of volunteers that did hundreds of cases

“As a result of this hard work, a very large number of people were not deported to Sri Lanka in 1983, ‘84 and ‘85. They were able to remain in this country, build their lives, run their businesses and be active in Tamils for Labour.

“When we had the camp in parliament square, people were staging hunger strikes to draw attention to the situation in Sri Lanka. 200,000 people marched through the streets of London and I was one of very few people who were not part of the Tamil community to join that march. I remember to this day, and am still angry about it, the utter silence of the majority of British and world’s media to the demonstration as well as the cause on the issue.

“The meeting tonight draws attention to the abuse of human rights and attention to the demands you are making. I hope ‘Tamils for Labour’ continue ensuring that we, as a party, remain committed to the needs and justice for the Tamil people”.

Responding to Corbyn’s speech, President of the Sinhala Association in the United Kingdom, Douglas Wickremaratne, said that the Sinhalese living in London should not vote for Labour at the forthcoming London Mayoral election. “They should not do so at the general election as well”.

Dev H Says;

Dear Douglas

This man makes my blood boil. What is our Yahapalanaya doing about it. Nothing By not appointing a High Commissioner capable of tackling LTTE supporting idiots  like Corbyn they are making things worse for us . I dont know why he wont appoint the present deputy HC who is doing an excellent job as our HC I hear Minister Chapika is having a meeting in London today. Perhaps you could go there and discuss how to reply to Corbyn)

I support your initiative   . Lets start to campaign among Srilankans not to vote any Labour man in future elections including the Mayoral. I mean we must have at least 80,000 Srilankns living in UK to take a stong stand .

Before that a delegation from our community  must go and meet Cameron and tell him that not to play in LTTE hand by  making statements favourable to Diaspora like at last election time. He should know LTTE Tamils would never vote for  any of the Tory candiadtes , Cameron should know  at every election time they play a double game and pretend to vote Conservatives during the campaign to get them to make anti Srilankan statement . Then  on election day they all go and vote for Labour

If Corbyn becomes  PM in 4 years time God helps Srilanka

Nowadays those free loaders are thriving in supporting Tamil terrorists supporters receiving kickbacks. When the leaders are having overseas bank accounts in their farther’s name what can we expect from other free loaders?

War is not over until we get rid of Tamil identification of ownership with any part of Sinhale once and for all

In 2009 we thought all finished. What had happened was one door closed with great celebrations ( with a huge cost of Sinhala lives) just to open another door secretly. Tell me why I am wrong.

Funny how the roles have changed. The British pirates took Tamils to every country they invaded to do their dirty work. Now these crooked British politicians have become the slaves of the Tamils, do their dirty work for a few votes and their bloody money. Who gives a shit about them. Remember how our brave president Mahinda treated that Miliban (Mr Bean) like a piece of shit?

  4. NAK Says:

Corbin should learn from what happened to Milliband borthers.
They supported the tiger rump for few votes and today they are nowhere to be seen.
There is no reaon why it shouldn’t happen to Corbin unless he learns the lesson sooner than later.

Many Sri Lankans are gravely concerned about the TNA proposal to partition Sri Lanka into four pieces with a huge chunk (28% of the land area, 66% of the coastline and 66% of the ocean comprising the North and the East of Sri Lanka) going to the TNA racists and separatists as a merged North East federal state (but craftily disguised as ‘unitary’) with full powers.

We are wondering why did over 43,000 both Sri Lankan Forces and civilians die at the hands of the LTTE and that megalomaniac Prabhakaran, if now, the TNA is being handed over an ‘Eelam’ so easily constitutionally?

When looking at a GIS Map of Sri Lanka, it is amply clear that most of the forested areas of Sri Lanka are situated in the North and the East. Do not these forests belong to all the citizens of Sri Lanka? Do not the same principle apply to the ocean too or even the whole island, that the oceans and the whole island belong to all the people of Sri Lanka? Mr. Vigneshwaran has ‘created’ a fake history (stating that Tamils lived in Sri Lanka for 2000 years). Yet, there are no ancient ruins in Jaffna, in the North nor any ancient Dravidian writing to prove these fake claims. History of the Tamils commence mainly with the Dutch and the British bringing in large numbers of people from Tamil Nadu to work in tobacco plantations commenced by the Dutch and the British. There was the so called Jaffna Kingdom set up by an invader just prior to that but then Jaffna was only very sparsely populated. Our question is, can people such as Mr. Vigneshwaran ‘create’ his own fake history like this? He is ignoring the many Buddhist ruins, the many ancient Buddha statues, ancient Sinhala prakrit writing, the many ancient irrigation reservoirs built by Sinhala kings in the North and the East which proves an earlier indigenous Sinhala habitation in the North and all over the island. We would like to tell Mr. Vigneshwaran to be objective when it comes to history and archaeology and accept once and for all the fact that the Sinhala people lived all over the island for thousands of years and continue to do so. I would like Mr. Vigneshwaran to note that the provincial boundaries were drawn up by British colonialists for their administrative purposes with no input whatsoever from the Sinhala people and does not tally at all with the earlier history of the island which was unitary in nature.

The Kandyan Kingdom (1400AD-1815) comprised almost all of the island inclusive of the East and almost all of the North. The earlier Kingdom of Rajarata (600BC-1400 AD) comprised the North Central, North Western, Northern and Eastern Provinces or the dry zone of Sri Lanka.

We are gravely concerned regarding the drawing up of a new constitution where due to the pressure of the TNA, the US, EU, UK, Canada, Norway, Sri Lanka is in grave danger of being divided up on ethnic lines into four, five or even six different pieces. Is this not crazy?

The TNA proposals were drawn up by experts which the TNA hired from the UK, Canada, Belgium, Canada, US and the like. Is this not an interference in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs by foreign powers, even to the extent of trying to draw up Sri Lanka’s constitution?

Can any organization in Sri Lanka go to the supreme court and stop, once and for all, the merger of the North and the East since it is critical to stop this once and for all? Can any organization in Sri Lanka also go to the supreme court and stop, once and for all the, dividing up of this small island on ethnic or any other lines?

The only way to stop this madness is to go to the supreme court and get a verdict which would prohibit the merger of any provinces and to stop once and for all the dismemberment of this small island on ethnic or any other lines.

Mr Corbyn can first give the Irish their Independence and then talk of Tamil Problems !

People such as Mr Corbyn have never visited INDIA and do not know of the problems there or Tamil Nadu, or the problems of Sri Lanka.
Likely he is well funded by the Tamils of UK !

  7. Fran Diaz Says:

The Sri Lanka so called Tamil Problem goes on and on because the Root Causes of the so called Tamil Problem has not been addressed !

The Tamil Problem was born and now nurtured in Tamil Nadu, perpetuated through the Caste lines on the birth certificates issued in Tamil Nadu.

Take the problem to the source. All the rest of the current events is mere distraction and attempts to acquire all of Lanka for Tamil Nadu & other interested parties.

  8. Nimal Says:

Why only Tamils and what about the rest of us? We too need justice and fair play that is denied by the people in power.

  9. Fran Diaz Says:

The most crazy part of this exercise is that if Eelam is formed or all of Lanka acquired, it will be the Tamil Nadu culture that will prevail and with it the Caste System re-imposed on any Eelam.
