Democracy in the mouth of Maithripala Sirisena  or Ranil Wickramasinghe is a meaningless word?

A country’s Constitution is sacro sanct. Writing Constitutions each time a new government is formed by a new political party  is not healthy for democracy. If there is some thing wrong it should be put right by bringing in an Amendments. But until then the Constitution has to be respected, and the  Judiciary should be independent.

But what is happening in Sri Lanka post 8 January,2015. The Constitution has been breached, at the pleasure of the new President Sirisena  and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe.  The Judiciary has been ridiculed.

After the election of Maithripala Sirisena , the Constitution was ignored appointing Ranil Wickramasinghe as the Prime Minister when there was  already a Prime Minister –D.M.Jayaratne and his Cabinet of Ministers. The unconstitutionally appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe appointed a new cabinet of UNP Ministers. All this was done arbitrarily and unconstitutionally and therefore illegal and undemocratic.

The new President again ignored the Constituition and re appointed a Constitutionally , therefore legally impeached Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike, and then allowed her to retire, and unconstitutionally therefore illegally appointed K.Siripavan as the new  Chief Justice  dismissing the Chief Justice Mohan Pieris who was appointed Constitutionally, by a letter signed by the President Sirisena.

Where is Democracy in all this ?

After, all this exercise of the new President  Sirisena and his unconstitutionally appointed Prime Minister, there are in Sri Lanka two governments one functioning and lead by an unconstitutionally appointed therefore an illegal Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and a non functioning  constitutionally appointed therefore a legal Government lead by D.M.Jayaratne.

And despite this ridiculous situation, an unconstitutional therefore illegal UNP Government has appointed a FCID to prosecute all suspected  of bribery and corruption and put them in Ramand Jail. This unusual government even got its illegal FCID (illegal because appointed by an unconstitutionally appointed Prime Minister) to prosecute the former President his wife, brothers, sons, friends,  the managing  Directors of Companies that functioned when the previous government was in power.

All these actions were  not democratic, constitutional or legal. But in a Speech on the 14 July,2015 the President Sirisena spoke of the Democratic revolution that  occurred on the 8th January,2015.

Mark Antony said in his oration at the funeral of Caesar, referring to the Senators who murdered  Caesar stabbing him to death, But Brutus said they are all honourable men.”

There is a genral election scheduled for the 17th August,2015 , normally under a Democratic system the President being the President of every one without distinction of race, colour , religion or political affiliation , should remain impartial and independent ?

But the President of Sri Lanka Sirisena shows his partiality to one political party and write to  a Candidate Mahinda Rajapakse, even before the election is held , that he will not be appointed the Prime Minister.

This is strange coming from a  President who said in a long speech on 14 July,2015,  “I will remain impartial in the coming election and urge the people to select those who are suitable to march forward with the January 08 mandate”

Democracy! Democracy !! thy name is smeared.

The President Sirisena continued his speech, Along with these developments, there came the Controversial Central Bank Bond issue. A Committee was appointed and the report was came out. The parliamentary Audit Committee too started the working on this issue. Generally, Mr. Ranil Wickramesinghe has a reputation among the people as a person free of corruption. However, on several occasions, I suggested to the Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe that it would do good to his reputation if the Central Bank Governor resigns his post.”

But did his Prime Minister the clean Mr.Ranil Wickramasinghe listen to him ? If he did  it would have shown how much  Mr.Clean Ranil respect him after some of his  Executive powers were taken away !!!

Then the President Sirisena  speaks poetically about  democracy. Your criticism of me in the past few days reflect the blossoming of democracy in this country and how you are making use of the massive outpour of democracy in this country.”

Is democracy in Sri Lanka blooming as he pretends it to be or is there a massive outpour of democracy?

Well the reader is to Judge.

Recently the President Sirisena who likes long speeches and long letters wrote a long letter to Mahinda Rajpakse a candidate at the forth coming General election saying again that he will not be appointed Prime Minister even if the party under which he gets a majority of Votes. That must be in terms of his blooming” Democracy.

Mahinda Rajapakse who when he was the President respected both Democracy and the Constitution  has written to him  a short letter in reply stating that as he bowed to the  people and accepted their decision on the 9th January , he hopes that the President Sirisena would do the same.

The President Sirisena who had been in office for nearly seven months  should know that he is the guardian of the Constitution of the country, and should be really democratic instead of paying lip service to democracy.

Finally another act of democracy by the President ?

The Colombo District Court today issued an enjoining order preventing Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and Susil Premajayantha from acting and discharging duties as the General Secretaries of the SLFP and UPFA respectively until August 28, 2015.

President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Chairman of the SLFP and UPFA has suspended the party memberships of Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and Susil Premajayantha and has also removed them from the posts of General Secretary.

Independent Judiciary ?

tensed situation erupted in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday as Lawyers accused each other in abusive language when they argued as to why former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral cannot be summoned to Court for misappropriation of Rs 34.7 billion in Greek Bonds issue.

The incident erupted when Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandima Liyanage issued summons on the Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and his son-in-law Arjun Aloysius over the misappropriation of Rs 30 billion in issuing Treasury Bonds, while postponing the case until 30 October.

The Voters on the 17 August, 2015, please reflect what it would be if the Elephant Symbol gets a greater number of Votes, than the Betel Leaf.

IT APPEARS THAT THE PRESIDENT IS ACTING LIKE A BULL IN A CHINA SHOP. If he is breaching the Constitution, who or what is the AUTHORITY to check him ??? What are the Legal Luminaries doing, without taking the matters to courts ? Governance in Sri Lanka has become a kitchen business.

President is writing long letters to Mahinda, and attempting to tarnish his name during Election Time, but it is going to back-fire on him like a ton of TNT. People are sick of MY3s insane fury and antics, acting like a mad man. HIS MIND IS A VERY TROUBLED MIND. IT IS GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY. It appears that he does not know what he is doing. Is he going Loony ? I think he is already there.

He has brought the Country into a bloody MESS. He is totally responsible for any impending disaster. Ran ill says that many FOREIGN COUNTRIES are coming to help him to build up the country. He has put the Country up for sale. He does not know how to govern a Country. He is always depending on someone to help him. He is allegedly involved in the Central Bank Bond, Grand Larceny. Murderer, and Fraudster. Ideal qualification for a Prime Minister. Sri Lanka is terribly short of such personalities. Come August 17th, and these mad men will be eliminated.

  2. LANKAPUTHRA Says:

Charles, this time you hit the bulls eye. You have written this government is an illegal Government. Ranil Punk openly stated that he does not want a constitution to govern Sri LANKA . So think for a moment, can he understand democracy? He never did. It was why JRJ distanced him self from RANIL PUNK. Can you remember what he did with Erick Solderhime?
JRJ knew that RANIL PUNK was not a mentally stable person, and he was a adopted child! MR did many mistakes I hope he will not repeat them. When USA and UK calls him a dictator. He should tell them and the UN “I will be a dictator until the country is governed by the SL constitution”.

This insane creature is downgrading the post of Presidency to the lowest level by doing all unconstitutional things which no other President has done. When you appoint an uneducated person to a high post like this without knowing or thinking is more dangerous than the Atom bomb. Because he doesn’t know how to run the country he always look up to an educated guy for advise. Who are the advisers and Financiers? Those who put him there by a conspiracy. America and the west who always look to grab our rich resources chose this guy and Ranil to do their dirty work. They have almost done their work and it will be very easy for them if UNP wins the General election therefore we must unite and defeat all reactionary evil forces on Aug 17th by all means.

Think hard,Think wisely,Think of your future,Compare the work done by previous Govt and this Jarapalanaya. Think whom we can trust more?Ranil or Mahinda. Who has the best team to work? Who has the experience? Who has the courage and stamina to lead the country? Mahinda is far more better leader than any of those Gobbels therefore go early morning on Aug 17th and vote to the BETEL and M A H I N D A.

Sri Lanka WINS the 1st Test against India by 63 runs, bundling out India for 112 in the 2nd innings! Rangana Herath bags 7 wickets in the 2nd innings! AMAZING WIN! Hooray!

Now if MR/UPFA can match this feat in the Election on the 17th, I will dance till I drop! Jayawewa!

  7. Hiranthe Says:

    Imagine other way around,

MR being the president does all these things, including removal of CJ by thugs… Every Tom, Dick and Harry from US, UK, Norway, Canada and UN will start commenting saying it is ‘DICTATORSHIP” at practice.

Not only them…. those parasite NGO’s will cry from top of their voices.. Now where are they.. because it is their planted puppet doing all these “YAHA PALANAYA” things.

What a joke is this world. Some people says they are the INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY!!

  8. Ananda-USA Says:

Let us IGNORE this TOUTING by the Indian Express of POLL RESULTS RIGGED by PAID PUPPETEERS anointing Ruinous Ranil as the election front runner, and hoisting the BACKSTABBER Somarama Sirisena upon us as “Sri Lanka’s most trusted politician” and paint them for who they are:

    1. Ruinous Raml is a SERIALLY FAILED politician CONSISTENLY unable to get elected or run an efficient government without being DISMISSED from OFFICE,

    2. His BACKSTABBING Presidential pambaya, Somarama Sirisena, is permanent party back bencher who has NEVER led from the fronts mismanaged the Governance of Sri Lanka into a shambles. Never has Sri Lanka has such an inept sorry figure as a President. Good as a puppet to emit emotional outbursts, but for very little else!

On August 18, Ruinous Ranil will be out on his ASS, and Somarama Sirisena will have an uncertain future ahead of him as a totally powerless non-entity twiddling his thumbs in the dark! SUCH is the FATE of Anti-National TRAITORS!

    ……………………….
Looking at Lanka: Rajapaksa hears ‘cry of people’, is 100% confident of party’s victory

Aug 15 (IE) Despite his crushing presidential election defeat just eight months ago, former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa says he is “100 per cent confident” of a victory for his party, the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), and that he will become the next prime minister.

If elected, Rajapaksa said, he would invite India to “join China” and finish projects in Sri Lanka. This includes a controversial project in Colombo, awarded to China, that the Maithripala Sirisena government has suspended pending an environmental impact assessment report.

On the closing day of the campaign in Kurunegala, from where he will contest Monday”s elections, Rajapaksa told The Indian Express that “it was the cry of the people” that made him want to lead the country as prime minister.

Monday”s contest between the UPFA and the United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG), led by Ranil Wickremesinghe, is expected to be close. However, an opinion poll conducted last month found Wickremesinghe to be the preferred candidate.

The UNFGG is also expected to benefit electorally from its association with Sirisena, who is widely viewed as “Mr Clean”.

Rajapaksa, who has faced allegations of corruption, was voted out of office in January. He dismissed the allegations against him, saying “the government went to India, US and England to get their help but they have found nothing” against him.

The former president described the investigation into the death of Wasim Thajudeen, a Lankan rugby player found dead three years ago, and the subsequent media reports that his sons were being investigated for murder, as “nonsense”.

On Thursday, Sirisena wrote an open letter to Rajapaksa, saying he would not nominate him to the PM”s post even if the UPFA won the election. But Rajapaksa replied that the president would have no choice.

“If we get 113 seats, he must give (the prime ministership) to me,” Rajapaksa said. “He must listen to the cry of the people.”

With Sirisena seen as one of Lanka”s most credible politicians, voters may want to bring in someone who would partner with him constructively. Wickremesinghe, who has worked with Sirisena in bringing about constitutional reform, fits the bill, while fears are that Rajapaksa might create a paralysis in government.

But the former president says he is prepared to work with Sirisena. “I will have a cordial relationship with him. I know him well,” he said, dismissing the rivalry as something of the past. “In politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies,” he said.

Neither party is expected to win enough seats to cross the half-way mark in the 225 seat Parliament and the grouping with the most number of seats may need to nimbly stitch up post-poll alliances.

Rajapaksa says he is confident about the UPFA”s prospects, adding that minority parties would join hands with him after the elections.

But the prospects of that seem dim; Rajapaksa”s two terms have alienated the Tamil minority over alleged atrocities against civilians during the war against the LTTE. Besides that, Sri Lanka”s Muslim population has also been put off by attacks by a Sinhalese hardline group.

At the Kurunegala rally, Rajapaksa recalled how he had protected the “matrubhoomi” from the LTTE”s separatist designs, how the Tigers had recruited Tamil boys some even as young as 10 and forced them to wear cyanide capsules around their neck, and how the group had expelled Muslim residents of Jaffna. The LTTE”s military defeat came in his first term as president.

Rajapaksa told The Indian Express that there had been no military excesses against civilians during his rule. “(The LTTE) were terrorists. Can you differentiate between a terrorist and a civilian? Take India in Kashmir. You are also fighting terrorists. When a terrorist drops his gun, he is a civilian”.

Rajapaksa arrived at the rally in presidential style. A motorcade of security cars accompanied him as he waved out from his car to supporters lined up on the road. The venue was cordoned off after his arrival due to security reasons.

Kurunegala is not Rajapaksa”s traditional constituency, but he decided to contest from here because his family seat, Hambantota, in the coastal south, was a district in which he fared poorly in the presidential elections.

Kurunegala is also an almost entirely Sinhalese area that sent many soldiers to the fight against the LTTE. As a larger constituency, it could provide him a victory with a larger number of votes than Hambantota.

One supporter at the venue said Rajapaksa was a “strong” leader, while “Ranil and Sirisena “are very weak, like NGOs”.

Brimming with confidence, Rajapaksa told The Indian Express that as a prime minister under the newly-amended Constitution, he would expect to have a significant role in running the country, and would play a role in shaping its foreign policy.

“It is all LTTE propaganda that I am anti-India and pro-China,” he said. If he becomes PM, Rajapaksa said, he would “invite India to participate in the Port City project along with China”.

The controversial project, to reclaim and develop land off the Sri Lanka capital”s main sea-front, has been suspended by the Sirisena government pending an environmental impact assessment. Rajapaksa said the project “is half-done” and that he wants “Indians to come and join the Chinese to complete it”.

Sri Lankans who worked to defeat Rajapaksa in the presidential election also view the contest as close. But they believe that the UNFGG has an edge due to the positive changes that the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe combine has brought about in the last six months, as well as the fears that a comeback by Rajapaksa would lead to a reversal of these changes.

  9. Kumari Says:

I wonder what the Yahapanala leaders and their media circus would have done if Mahinda ever did anything even close to what Sirisena is doing now. Without any such high handed acts Mahinda was called a Dictator. What do you call this mentally retarded President?

  10. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

ANANDA !! DONT FORGET THAT MARU SIRAA IS THE ONLY ONE WHO SHOOK HANDS WITH THE QUEEN , WHEN SHE WAS BARE HANDED WITHOUT GLOVES. THIS WAS GREAT FOR A GRAMA SEVAKAYA. SERVILITY PERSONIFIED.

THEN THIS IS THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO EXPOSE THAT RAJAPAKSES IMPORTED HORSES FROM BUCKINGHAM PALACE IN USA. WHERE HE STUDIED HIS GEOGRAPHY, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. HIS GENERAL KNOWLEDGE IS FASCINATING.

RIGHT NOW, HE IS IN A STATE OF INSANITY. **PISSU KELINAWA**

  11. vyasan Says:

Democracy is also a meaningless word for the foreign agencies, the NGOs, and foreign regimes as long as the happenings serve their agenda. If Mahinda Rajapakse has done, what Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickramasinghe have been doing and saying since they elected president and appointed as prime minister, the above named sources would have made a hue and cry over the quality of democracy prevailing in Sri Lanka and ask that measures should be taken by (the so-called) international communities to correct him. But now it happened to be their puppets doing what have been expected them to do on their behalf, so a complete silence prevail on their part in the quality of democracy.

  12. nilwala Says:

PRESIDENT SIRISENA HAS NO UNDERSTANDING OR RESPECT FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS… OR THE CONSTITUTION. AS HE BLUNDERS THROUGH BRINGING MORE SHAME ON SRI LANKA BY HIS SHENANIGANS THAT CONTINUE TO ENDORSE HIS IGNORANCE AND VINDICTIVENESS, HE SHOWS AN UTTER LACK OF CONCERN FOR THE WELL-BEING OF THE NATION.
HE WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE MOST DICTATORIAL AND IGNORANT OF ALL RECENT PRESIDENTS, WHO AT THIS CRUCIAL JUNCTURE HAS THROWN DECENCY TO THE WINDS GRASPING FOR POWER IN THE SLFP/UPFA WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY STRADDLING INTO SUPPORTING RW/UNFGG.
WHAT A MESS AND CHAOS HAS BEEN CREATED!
AS A SENIOR PARLIAMENTARIAN HE SHOULD KNOW THAT IF MAHINDA RAJAPAKSE GETS A MAJORITY VOTE, THERE IS NO WAY HE CAN PREVAIL ON KEEPING MAHINDA OUT WITHOUT RISKING HIS OWN IMPEACHMENT.
THE SRI LANKA CONSTITUTION MAKES CLEAR THAT THE PEOPLE ARE SUPREME. IT IS THEIR VOTE THAT COUNTS, AND THEIR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES CAN LEGALLY ASSERT THAT RIGHT ON THEIR BEHALF, WHEN CONFRONTED WITH AN UNCOOPERATIVE PRESIDENT.
WHO ADVISES HIM TO MAKE THESE BLUNDERS?

Susangtha yousaid, RIGHT NOW, HE IS IN A STATE OF INSANITY. **PISSU KELINAWA**

I was thinking aboutit yesterday. We cannot rule out that he is suffering from some sort of psychological Anxiety, which he cannot get rid of. It may be he thinks overly about the office to which he has ben cast, and the fear that he will fail to command the respect due to him. See the length of his speeches, and there contents . It is more or less about the same thing his fears and what he had been, what would happen to him, his obligations to others. He also wrote lon letter to Mahinda, he repeats more or less the same things he had said before. Then yesterday he met a delegation came to ask about holding fair and orderly election. To them also he made a long speech about what happened to him at the Presidential election and the wrongs done by the previous President.

Is it really necessary for him to speak at length and write at length if he is at peace with himself and that he is able to control his thoughts. Even Ranil Wickramasinghe too is psychologically ill . His obsession is Rajapakse. Can you imagine Sri Lanka under two guys like this ?

  14. Charles Says:

Susantha Wijesinghe, Please pardon me I had spelt your name wrong. I make lot of typing errors now as my eyesight is not too good. I am getting on to be 83.
