This is a very serious agreement. It will affect the national security of the country, future ethnic composition of the country, the livelihood & employment of Sri Lankans, the question of resources to meet a large flow of Indians arriving in Sri Lanka & the capability of laws to protect the fundamental rights of Sri Lankans, conflicts of interest arising, land ownership & the sovereignty, territorial integrity of Sri Lanka in agreeing to sign an agreement with India legally allowing Indians to set up business & live without any restrictions.

In what India must feel was a windfall when in 2002 then PM Ranil Wickremasinghe pushed for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India successive governments managed to dodge the clause including allowing ‘service sector’ to enter Sri Lanka.

India has reached consensus with PM Ranil again whose other idea of a road/rail link with India has quickly advanced to feasibility studies and ADB funding stage. The people’s opinion on the road/rail link as well as Indians being allowed to set up business and live in Sri Lanka has been totally ignored.

Nonetheless, whatever fancy stories are being sold about the good that will come out of enabling Indians to start businesses in Sri Lanka, we cannot ignore the practical realities.

These realities affect all of us and will shatter the lives of Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims who within time will realize they have lost the sovereignty and independence of Sri Lanka as well as the territorial integrity! Sri Lankans at every level professional, skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled are likely to be affected when a massive influx of Indians start pouring into Sri Lanka.

Some facts

• Chapter 4 of Article 2 under the proposed CEPA refers to the movement of natural persons.
• India’s population is 1.3billion / Sri Lanka’s population is 20million
• There are 56million unemployed in India / Sri Lanka’s unemployed are 500,000
• 5 million students enrolled in Indian higher education in 2014-15 and 9 million graduates.
• Most multinational corporations already in Sri Lanka are owned by Indians or have their headquarters based in India. They send Indians to work in Sri Lanka without proper work permits and they quickly return to evade immigration and send a replacement. Some Indian companies in Sri Lanka give work to Indians on tourist visas! They go back & forth and the Tourist Board is happy logging entry but totally ignoring the violation.
• Indians are masters at finding loopholes in laws & manipulating them
• 60,000 Indians now work in Sri Lanka legally, we don’t know how many are in Sri Lanka illegally (note LTTE Tamilselvan is on record for saying 33% of LTTE cadres were from Tamil Nadu, how many of their families are pretending to be Sri Lankan Tamils!)
• India is using its position at the UNHRC/UN and the resolutions against Sri Lanka to leverage control over Sri Lanka using guarantees of assistance for support against the resolutions (such bribery tactics is unwarranged and unfair)
• Sri Lanka has always been considered a paradise by Indians who suffer regular droughts, excessive rains/floods, excessive cold – Sri Lankans enjoy better living conditions than Indians at any economic level.

Here are some questions to ask yourself

Indian businesses setting up in Sri Lanka

• Tragically the Sri Lankan businesses some of whom are cut throats will automatically view this as a golden opportunity to gain bigger profits by employing cheap labor from India. Before long Indians who will immediately set up their own ventures employing the cheap Indian labor will completely wipe out Sri Lankan businesses who will find they will end up having no business! (for their cheap thinking they lost their own business and livelihood as well!)
• All seven copper industries operated by Indians had unskilled Indian labourers as their managers.
• Will the self-employed Sri Lankans have a chance when Indians arrive?
• Will the farmer survive already Ranil speaks about farmers in jeans which invariably means there will be no farmers in time to come.
• What will happen to the indigenous industries – they will probably be taken over by the Indians.
• How about the computer/software and similar other ventures of locals how will the Indians impact their businesses. We all are aware of the highly competitive Indian software/hardware market & IT technology.

Indian education

• Of course Sri Lanka will serve to gain via Indian education but these will be at a price and again Sri Lankans will end up competing with Indians in a market that Indians will control inside Sri Lanka

Where will all these Indians live?

• Initially many would think it a windfall to make additional money from rent but when more and more Indians start coming and there is no legally allocated number or visa restrictions what is going to happen when accommodation becomes an issue and relying on flats/condominiums would invariably mean Sri Lanka would create a concrete Island completely destroying the natural environment.

Marriage – nationality / land status

• When Indians begin to marry and over period of time this increases in the case of Indian men marrying Sri Lankan women the child will automatically take the father’s name then the question of citizenship will arise
• What about when a Sri Lankan female marries and Indian and her ownership of land can be transferred to the Indian husband, with time what will happen?
• How will the ethnic composition of Sri Lanka change!

Legal status of the International Maritime Boundary Line

• Having approved a road/rail link while CEPA only allows deep sea fishing it has not stopped Indians from poaching and stealing fish in Sri Lankan waters and no amount of diplomacy has worked in stopping Indians using illegal bottom trawlers to soon destroy the marine bed belonging to Sri Lanka.
• Therefore a question arises with Indians arriving to set up businesses in Sri Lanka the level of influence they will exert on Sri Lanka and officials in securing what merits India and Indians and the eventual

Have Sri Lankans benefitted by doing business with India/Indians?

• Many a Sri Lankan would agree that doing business with Indians have left them bankrupt, profitless or profit stolen!
• Enough of examples prevail to showcase that Sri Lankan industries have become poorer after business dealings with India.

Isnt the BOI able to do what CEPA is pretending to do?

Cultural impact

• CEPA clause also includes 40% cinema to Indian movies which invariably aims at changing the Sri Lankan cultures and values to Indian and with time the entire indigenous cultures will be wiped out

Do we need CEPA?

• While Indians can easily create jobs in Sri Lanka it will be only a handful of already established Sri Lankan businesses that can do the same in India – compromising the rights of an entire nation for the lucrative gains of a handful of companies in Sri Lanka is unethical. Besides these companies have already established themselves in India without CEPA therefore the companies that wish to venture in India have already ventured we do not need CEPA which in current context sees profit and benefit only for India and long term detrimental to Sri Lanka at every level.

BOI agreements enable a revocation but CEPA being bilateral cannot be changed or revoked and if India is being a bully forcing Sri Lanka to sign the delayed clauses it is not difficult to imagine the pressures India will exert if Sri Lanka does not stick to terms after realizing too late the folly it has made.

American robber barons” at the turn of the century were families like the Duponts, the Carnegies, the Rockefellers and the Morgans, whose fortunes were made through tax evasion, bribery, corruption and outright murder and Indian white collar criminals come very close! What we see today is under the guise of trade liberalization a manipulation and hijacking of the country’s financial system to finance corporate robbery. It is their subsidiary companies/think tanks etc who come forward chirping the benefits of these liberal programs and attempt to use media to build public opinion in favor of the robbery being planned. Sri Lanka’s initial sojourn with capitalist liberal economy ended up with 100,000 people being fired just because they sought a Rs.10/- salary increase!

There is no ‘can I have a little more please’ in the liberal corporate world and when we are having a giant next door that has been historically trying to invade and occupy Sri Lanka we would be very daft to jump at the idea. Whatever signed on paper when an influx of people come legally is our army to shoot them down! So it is in viewing the practicality of these agreements that CEPA should be thrown into the dustbin for good

Yet with UNP Leader being the architect of both the CEPA clause & road/rail link will this become a reality if UNP is voted into power and Ranil does have a habit of ignoring people’s opinion including that of his own cabinet as proven by the manner he signed territory to LTTE in 2002 without even the sanction of the then President.

Chandrikka Kelinne Okkoma Pissu” ( Sirimavo Bandaranaiyike 1994)

Could anyone imagine of a better evaluation of Chandrika Bandaranayike Kumaratunga (CBK) than this all time truth that comes from her own mother? As I was carefully watching the mess Chandrikka is currently making in the political situation in this country these days, it reminded me the truism deeply embedded in the above golden words of her mother, that Great Lady  of the nation, used to tell me way back in 1994 when I was her Ministry Secretary. The real value of the mother’s evaluation of her daughter’s behavior and character has become more relevant and obvious today when we see her rather fanatic behavior displayed by her these days against the very political party founder by her father and nurtured by her own mother, two of the greatest leaders this country has ever produced. Her behavior is nothing short of murdering her own parents.

As the man who suggested to call her back from England to Mrs Bandaranaike in 1993 (25^th Dec 1993 at Rosemead Place) I now deeply regrets for the historic blunder I made that day. (You can verify this incident form Rev Keppetiyagoda Seelawimala Thera High Priest of Getambe temple Peradeniya and Prof Visva Warnapala my good friend who were there at the time it took place on that day). At that time I did not know CBK. I only knew her only as the, potentially worthy, daughter of so and so, which alone made me to think she will also act like the Father and the Mother.

The first time the above bitter comments about CBK came out from Mrs B one day when I told her my views regarding the appointment of Vasantharaja Perumal as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation. As the Secretary to her Ministry it was my duty by her as well as by my country to give her the correct advice on matters of State. I knew Vasantharaja was an LTTE man or at least a sympathizer. As such I knew it’s would be broader implications and dangers that were bound to arise both in the short run and the long run. Therefore I suggested to the old lady that she ask Chandrikka who was Prime Minister at that time, to immediately remove Vasantharaja and appoint someone trustworthy to be in charge of this key media institution in view of the danger and the risk of putting a man like that, that will have a direct bearing on the security of the country. Hearing the news she was annoyed and disturbed and said Sudath Chandrikka Kelinne Okkoma Pissu Mama Kiyana kisi deyak ahanne ne}”.  These words implied two things. Firstly, her great disgust and secondly, her honest assessment of the daughter’s work by that time.

Even on the 25^th of Dec 1993 when I suggested her to recall the daughter from England she hesitated. Sudath man kiyana de Chandrikka ahaida, then she posed? Hari kathawk ne madam, Chandrijkka obatumige duwa ne. Amma kiyana de ahanne netnam e duwa gen eti wede mokakda. Kokatath kiyala balantako. Hebei be kivoth  apata wena viklalpayak gena hitanata wenava. Mokada Anuratanam pakshaya godaganta be kiyana ekai me rate wedidenage adahasa. Apeth adahasa ekamai, I replied. My two companions also agreed. She then agreed with my proposal and said hondai mama kiyala balannamko. Ere two weeks passed CBK came back to the country with the two children and took over the party. The rest is history now. Everybody in this country knows how she messed up the country for 11 years thereafter. I do not want to delve in to details of her miserable performance as the President as everybody knows about the unique record she has left behind as a Chandrika legacy, with a guineas record of getting late for meetings, so much so people dubbed her as Pamawathi.

I do not know why, but CBK never liked MR. To begin with she did not want to appoint Mahinda as the PM when Mrs B passed away. But circumstances made her to concede though reluctantly. When CBK completed her two term as President in 2005 she had no choice but to nominate MR as the UPFA Presidential candidate.  But the way she acted and behaved after nominating him clearly shows that she didn’t like Mahinda at all. Immediately after nomination was given, she started the cold war. She asked the voters not to vote MR and requested to support Ranil who was her arch rival up to that time, the only similarity being the social class,  as against the nominee of her own Party. Her argument against MR was that Bandaranaike policies were not safe in his hands. She said if you want to protect Bandaranaike policies don’t vote MR. Both Chandrika and Anura supported Ranil at that election. When I came to know this situation I wrote a piece under the caption ‘Who are the real enemies of Bandaranaike Policies from Wisconsin (US) where I was on an assignment. It was published in the Island 3rd Nov 2005and. Prabath Sahabandu the Editor of the Island was so happy he sent me the following E-mail.   ‘Dear Sir Your piece went down very well. I don’t think anybody else would have done better, wrote back after publishing it within two days’. In that article I argued as to why MR should be supported by everybody who love the country and made a strong appeal to lukewarm and reluctant JVP and JHU to go all out to support MR as I felt it was the best chance to shift Colombo based political leadership monopoly to the true base of Sri Lankan traditional leadership, that is the village, as MR came from Magama.

In spite of Chanrika’s malicious campaign thanks to the Tigers miscalculations MR won the election in 2005 unfortunately for the tigers but fortunately for the Sinhalese Buddhists.  But the conspiracy did not end there. Chandrika continued her dirty  game against MR, marking for time she hatched the coup in collaboration with her chum Ranil and all those anti Sinhala Anti Buddhist elements both at home and abroad and finally in 2015 she was successful in hijacking Maitripala Sirisena (MS) as the common Candidate to hit MR. Hers is the mastermind behind this conspiracy, which definitely had both local and international ramifications. MS who has an ax to grind with MR as he was not appointed Prime Minister was used as the cat’s paw as both Ranil and CBK knew that Ranil cannot defeat MR as Tanil want get any SLFP votes in any case.  So this way on Jan 8^th 2005 CBK got her first round of malicious wishes fulfilled.

Having done all the dirty work to ousted MR as President now again she has got down to the field to do the same treachery and wipe out MR from the political field for good. But what she has forgotten now is that she does not have any captive appeal, charisma or the power to attract the crowed. She does not have a following either. Her voice is not heard in the years of the masses. She is only a dead coin. Though she pretend to know Bandaranaike policies I do not know whether she has read at least the Charakaya and Goyam ketha written by her father in 1933, which succinctly outline Bandaranaike’s philosophy on politics. As a vicious woman who has deserted and betrayed her own mother and destroyed all what her father and mother did from1956 to 1977 she must be ashamed to talk about Bandaranaike policies now over which she has absolutely no claim at all. She hit the last nail on Bandarnaike policies when she openly declared few weeks back that Sinhala Buddhist Majoritarianism should be defeated in this country. This clearly proves that she does not know the history of this country and she refuse to accept the reality and even the basic principle of Democracy. She only displays her ignorance and hate towards the Sinhala nation. That alone disqualifies her from holding any public position in this country. A man or woman who doesn’t love his/her country or people ‘shall go down to the vile dust, from whence he/she sprung, Unwept, unhonoured, and unsung’ as Sir Walter Scott said.

How many times she has deserted and betrayed the party

Didn’t she plan to hand over the North and East to Prabhakaran for 10 years in 1997

Is she aware that the SLFP is the only political party in this country that is based on policies that go with the needs of the Sinhala Buddhist aspirations?

Is she aware that it was her Father who started the Sinhala Maha Sabha in 1935 in reply to Ceylon Tamil Congress founded by Arunachalam in 1910 and thus paved the way for the need of a political Party for the Sinhala people who constitute more than 75 % of the total population in this country?

Is she aware that it was his father who championed the cause of the Sinhala Language, Buddhism, Ayurveda, Sri Lankan culture and Independence, freedom and Sovereignty of this Island. Is she aware that she is injecting saline to a leaderless, rudderless anti Sinhala Anti Buddhist and treacherous political gang to destroy the SLFP while continuing to be the patron of the SLFP at the same time?

Does she know that SWRD and MRS B are turning in their graves these days in shame of their daughter’s betrayals?

Does she know that it was MR who defeated the LTTE and liberated the country after 30 years of political instability death and destruction restoring political stability and peace to this country and deployed an unprecedented programme of infra structure development and  Economic development and elevated the image of the country to great heights without kneeling down and giving in to external pressure.

On the other hand can she show us a single High way, Airport or any single development work or achievement at least a small culvert she has constructed during her 11 year period in office?

Why don’t you admit the good work of MR and the stark fact that he is more capable than you as a leader?

In fact she should be thankful to MR for giving a new lease of life to the party and keeping the torch burning while she and even her brother were jumping from one side to the other

Dear lady at least now  accept the reality that MR is  an asset  not only for the SLFP but for the whole country who has given a new spirit to the country after 1956 , a man who has inculcated a sense of patriotism and a new vision that will enable to make this country once again a great nation. So lady please give up your malice and rancor against MR and stop your destructive actions against the party and the country by working against MR. Think about your great parents and If you can’t adjust please leave the shore of this Island and go to some place of your choice where you can spend your sunset days in peace.

I have told you even before this to behave like a Bandaranaike. Please don’t try to be  another Kuweni instead strive to leave a name as a Vihara mahadevi just like your mother did. Or please don’t go down in history as a Maname Bisawa, that foolish young girl who betrayed Dhanuddhara the King of Benaris to elope away with a Vedda king in the jungle and got destroyed herself. This is the destination you are headed to if you keep on supporting vicious and treacherous forces rallied around UNP  that has not done any good to the country after the death of D.S Senanayaka

Finally I must tell you that as for me I don’t have personalities or Political parties or axes to grind against anyone.  But I love my country more than anything else. I also love your father and mother and people like DS, CWWC and Lalith Atulathmudali and next in like MR.

My one and only concern is my country, Nation and the Religion. As such I don’t care whether it is MR, Ranil or any other. What is done and how is it done is more important to me than looking for who has done it. Even if it happened to be Prabhakaran resurrected, if he is committed to work for the protection of the above Trinity and for the wellbeing of people of my country and our people, I am with him. Other than that I don’t write with ‘malice towards none, but with charity for all’ as your great father declared, at that historic occasion in Parliament quoting Abram Lincoln, as he left the UNP and sat in the opposition in 1951 as the leader of the SLFP, that Great Political movement and beacon light that laid the foundation stone to the new national resurgence in modern times.

All   patriotic Sri Lankans, especially the Sinhalese Buddhist, in my view should vote for Mahinda, if they are really serious about protecting the country and the nation at this crucial juncture of our history. All Buddhist monks should and must take the lead in this Island wide operation as they did in 1956. They must, in the name of the country and the nation, should give up their green, red and even blue robes and go forth only in yellow robes of the Buddha, as the protecting deities (Jatiye Muradevatavo) of this Island nation, blessed by the Great Teacher and honourably offered to him thrice by our ancient Kings.

The purpose of my writing this piece is threefold.

1 To give a message to the people of this country not to tale CBK seriously as per above details

2 To request CBK to stop this anti-SLFP, anti-Sinhala, anti-Buddhist and anti-Sri Lankan actions and sayings and refrain from bringing discredit and disrepute to her parents who are universally accepted as world leaders of great fame.

3 Finally, caution her to refrain from attacking Mahinda Rajapaksa at this critical hour of the nation when he is identified as the Mosses of this country and the Sinhala nation by the great majority of people.

Dilrook Kannangara

Local folklore has it that if a night heron (Kana Koka) cries while in flight over a house it is a sure warning that death will come soon to an inmate of the house. So is Tony Blair. Wherever he has stepped in, doom and gloom followed. Now he is in Jaffna while travelling to Sri Lanka and this surely is the most ominous sign of death and destruction yet to come.

Alleged War Criminal

An inquiry by carried out by Sir John Chilcot into the conduct of Tony Blair in relation to his involvement in the Iraq War and associated war crimes. The British government has managed to delay the release of this report by years. Several countries have already banned his entry alleging war crimes by him. He played a difficult role in forcing an unwilling British government and public to go to a needless war in Iraq, which permanently destabilised that country. Today Iraq is the most dangerous country in the world. We have Tony to thank for it.

Wherever He Went, Doom Followed

In 2007 Blair was appointed the Peace Envoy to the Middle East just four years after he initiated a needless war in Iraq. In January 2015 he resigned after having accomplished what he was tasked with. Yes, he did achieve his goals of further destabilizing the Middle East. If his first involvement was bad, his second one was worse. He has left a trail of death and destruction wherever he went. Millions have died in the Middle East since he was party to the middle east interference in 2001. Although some Middle Eastern countries welcomed him in 2007, by 2015 all of them wanted him out.

Libya was another assignment he took upon himself. He managed to fool the then Libyan leader to give up his defences. Then he fooled Libyan people to riot against him. Today Libya is a hellhole. People seek refuge in Italy and rest of Europe. Blair exited after running that country. He pretended to be a friend of Palestinians in 2007 but soon became apparent that he only prolonged their misery.

Is He in Sri Lanka to Reignite the War?

Peace in Sri Lanka is a very big problem for NATO and India. Their bitter enemy (for reasons of jealousy than anything else) is China. As most Chinese imports and exports pass through the Indian Ocean, NATO and India want to disrupt these shipments by introducing chokepoints and A2/AD (anti-access/area denial) tactics in the Indian Ocean. Sri Lanka is closest to Chinese shipping lanes and hence the obvious target of NATO and India. When the LTTE was active with Sea Tigers (world’s only sustained sea based terrorist group), it provided a natural deterrent to China. People in NATO countries and India helped LTTE with hundreds of millions of dollars each year to bolster its sea terrorist wing to disrupt China. To their misfortune, the LTTE and its sea wing were decimated in 2009. Since then, NATO and India have lamented over their loss on several occasions at the UNHRC and elsewhere. Now they want to somehow reignite the war and resurrect Sea Tigers to disrupt China. It is worthy to note that during the CFA in 2003 Tamil terrorists attacked a Chinese vessel off the coast of Sri Lanka killing all 15 Chinese on board. This is what NATO and India wish.

The Next Diego Garcia Base?

Diego Garcia lease expires next year (2016). It is a group of atolls in the Indian Ocean captured by the British and leased to the US military to maintain a military base. Since then USA depopulated it wiping out all its inhabitants. The US Diego Garcia military base is the most important external US base. It was responsible for launching attacks on Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and elsewhere. It houses US nuclear weapons too. With plans to disrupt Chinese shipping, it assumes even higher importance today.

However, Chagos people (rightful owners of Diego Garcia islands) petitioned the International Criminal Court for justice. If justice is upheld it is a textbook case. Diego Garcia islands must be returned to them and USA and UK must exit. Although the occupiers are trying hard to fool the locals and the ICC and continue their occupation, there is some risk of them losing this battle. Therefore, they need a Plan B. Their Plan B is Sri Lanka. Tony Blair is in Sri Lanka to lay the foundation for their search for Diego Garcia replacement. Northern Sri Lanka is much safer from the elements of nature than Diego Garcia which is barely a metre above sea level. It is also much closer to action.

Tamil Autonomy and Diego Garcia from Jaffna to Trincomalee

The new Diego Garcia will be established in Jaffna peninsular and Trincomalee. For that to happen, Sri Lankan government control must be removed from the north and the east. UK, USA and India played a huge role in thinning out Sri Lankan military presence in Jaffna peninsular and Trincomalee already. Now they want Tamil autonomy in these areas so they can build their Diego Garcia base there. Tamils will need protection from Sri Lanka in the event of Tamil autonomy. Sri Lanka with a well established military is the biggest threat to Tamil autonomy. To counter that, Tamils will need the military presence of a foreign army. Once a certain level of autonomy is granted, India and NATO will get Tamils to plead for a NATO-India peacekeeping army. In 1987-90 it was the Indian army. From 2016 onwards it will be a joint NATO-India invading army. Soon they will depopulate the Jaffna peninsular and Trincomalee (particularly Muslims for which they have a great skill as shown in Libya, Iraq and the entire Middle East. Trincomalee has a Muslim majority.). Thereafter they will turn them into full-fledged military bases. Tamil men garlanded the Indian peacekeeping army upon its arrival in 1987 but Tamil women garlanded the Indian Prime Minister with a bomb-laden garland in 1991 after Okinawa base style sexual violence against Tamil locals by the Indian army. Thankfully by 1990 the Cold War was coming to an end and India had no reason to stay back. However, a new cold war is now brewing and NATO and India will not leave Sri Lanka.

Tony Blair came with nothing but he will leave with part of Sri Lanka firmly tucked under his armpits for the next Diego Garcia base in the island.

Your Excellency,

I am submitting herewith pictures covering the ceremonial inauguration of houses built on state
land classified as ‘conservation areas’ abutting the Wilpattu National Park, where I believe Minister
Rishad Bathiutheen is seen in the company of Arab visitors representing  Sheikh Jassim Bin Jabor
Al-Thani Charitable Foundation based in Doha, Qatar, who funded the illegal housing project.  This
matter was brought to your attention by my letter dated April 27, 2015 which is annexed hereto.

It is indeed distressing to note that Sri Lankan citizens are able to partner with foreign financiers
and encroach into state lands deemed conservation property and construct houses for members of
a particular community, and even name the encroached region by the name of the donor organization
which in this particular case is referred to as “Jassim City”.  To my knowledge, even backward countries
derogatorily called “banana republics” do not allow their citizens or foreigners to illegally acquire land
and set up housing schemes for members of a particular ethnic group.  Even if they are persons who
had been previously evicted by the terrorist LTTE, then it becomes the responsibility of the state to
ensure that they are re-settled in their original places of residence just like the Tamil IDPs were settled
after de-mining the land, putting in essential infrastructure and making the area safe and habitable.
Just as much as the Tamil IDPs were resettled, similar action has to be taken to resettle the 27,000
Sinhalese who were evicted from the north between 1971 and 1981, and the roughly 75,000 Moslems
who were also driven out of the north by the LTTE around 1990.

Sri Lanka has enough and more laws to cover every subject, but it is most disappointing that the laws
are either unevenly applied or not enforced by the officials due to political interference.  All law abiding
citizens of Sri Lanka expect you to take appropriate action against those responsible for the illegal
encroachment and construction work carried out in Wilpattu and elsewhere in the island.

I trust the rule of law will be upheld by the administration headed by your excellency.

Continued Rape of the Wilpattu National Park and
Establishment of Unauthorised Settlements  

I am writing to bring to your notice the continuing rape of the Wilpattu National Park that is
taking place at this very moment, whilst the authorities responsible for the conservation of
forests and protection of the environment are hibernating in their comfortable offices in the
capital city.  When this matter was brought up earlier by another group of concerned citizens
with photo evidence, they pointed a finger at a minister of the state whom I believe was
Mr. Rishad Badthiutheen, as being the person responsible for the encroachment and
construction of houses for settling members of his community.  I note that Mr. Badthiutheen
is once again holding a cabinet rank in your administration as well.

I am giving below a link to a 5 minute 51 second video which shows the construction of roads
and permanent houses within the Wilpattu National Park. This is a clear violation of the
existing laws relating to conservation of the limited forest cover in the island needed for climatic
reasons as well as provision of areas for our wild life to freely roam in safety as envisioned by our

You will observe paved roads and permanent houses already in place, with road extension and
house construction underway.  A board has been erected denoting this illegal housing project on
encroached crown land in a conservation area as ‘JASSIM CITY’ comprising a total of 179 houses.
The funding has been provided according to the signboard by Sheikh Jassim Bin Jabor Al-Thani
Charitable Foundation based in Doha, Qatar.  Does the law allow foreign organizations to establish
cities for members of a particular community on Sri Lanka’s sovereign territory involving the
deforestation of national parks which are deemed conservation zones? Such funds should instead be
direted to the government to resettle Muslims and others who were internally displaced in their
former places of residence.

The usual reason given for such illegal action is that there has been a delay on the part of the
government to re-settle members of the Muslim community who had been forcibly evicted by the
LTTE from their abode in the northern province.  There were also over 27,000 Sinhala people who
had also been evicted from the north by the separatist Tamil terror groups between 1971 and 1981,
none of whom have been resettled by the state, except for a handful of about 25 families who have
staked out their temporary homesteads in Navattakuly without any assistance from the state. The
right of return of those who had been forcibly evicted by the Tamil terror groups who carried out
ethnic cleansing of non-Tamils in both the north and east must be honoured by the government.

While there are an abundance of laws established in Sri Lanka, the failure to prevent wrongdoing
is mainly due to the non-enforcement of the laws by the authorities concerned.  Could this be as
a result of political interference which prevents officials from carrying out their entrusted duties?
I have also been made aware of similar encroachments in the Eastern Province by members of the
Muslim community into strictly conservation areas such as the forests surrounding the estuaries of
waterways flowing to the sea, and even producing bogus deeds prepared by members of their own
community working in the kachcheri or district office administering the area.  We are also aware of
the ‘Ashraf Nagar’ where 500 houses were built on land close to the Deegavapi Temple complex in
the Ampara district supposedly to house 89 Moslem families who had been displaced by the 2004
tsunami, nearly 30 miles inland from their original place of residence with funding from the Middle
East.

I trust that you would initiate an investigation immediately and take appropriate action against who
so ever has had a hand in this unlawful venture to build unauthorized houses by encroaching into
conservation properties belonging to the state.  These houses have to give way to the preservation
of the National Park, and steps taken to restore the forest cover without delay.  Notwithstanding
ethnicity, the government must uphold the law in order to win the trust and confidence of the people.

In one of his finest discourses in the Anguttara-Nikaya the Buddha speaks as follows: “The sum of all that makes a bad man is ingratitude; the sum of all that makes a good man is gratitude “. The Buddha further said that it is hard to find people who do kind deeds and people who are grateful for the kind deeds done. In so saying the Buddha placed a heavy emphasis on the need to treasure and value people who do kind deeds and cultivate good virtues.

It is on a footing of gratitude, that the larger Buddhist community both within and outside Sri Lanka must take stock of the significant contributions made by the members of the Sumathipala family to the cause of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and in particular to the revival of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC), the premier Buddhist organization in the country, when it had virtually collapsed due to fractious litigation in courts between various factions of the ACBC. It was a disheartening scene at that point in time to see the closure of the main gates to the premises of the ACBC barring any one from entering and to note with sadness that access to ACBC funds had been blocked by court order on an indefinite basis.

It was at this stage of the waning of the fortunes of the ACBC that Dr. Mrs. Milina Sumathipala courageously stepped forward to give leadership and take on the mantle of the Presidency of the ACBC. She thus became the first female to hold this high office commencing in 2001.  The ACBC did not have sufficient funds to meet even the basic requirements such as payment of salaries of the staff and maintenance, as the pre-existing funds were all frozen, by order of court.  The innumerable challenges faced by the ACBC were no small ones. The very survival of the ACBC became an issue causing dismay among both the Buddhist clergy and laity. It was during such financial difficulties that Dr. Mrs. Milina Sumathipala and her family rose to the occasion to prevent the collapse of the ACBC by financially supporting the ACBC to enable it to continue its regular activities. The Buddhist public began to breathe a sigh of relief over this development.

All Ceylon Buddhist Congress

The All Ceylon Buddhist Associations Congress was founded in 1919 by Dr C A Hewawitharana a leading Buddhist activist and a close relative of Anagarika Dharmapala. Sir Don Baron Jayatilaka became its first elected President. The following year i.e. 1920, the name was changed to All Ceylon Buddhist Congress and thereafter it became closely associated with the revival of Buddhism in both Sri Lanka as well as in other parts of Asia. As the premier Buddhist organization, the ACBC functioned as an umbrella body and gave leadership to all Buddhist organizations/associations in Sri Lanka. Its foremost objective was to promote, foster and protect Buddhism and the Buddha Sasana, and safeguard the rights and privileges of the Buddhist community.

Mrs. Sumathipala’s son Jagath Sumathipala succeeded her mother to the post of President, ACBC, in 2006.

Here is a summary of the outstanding contributions made by the ACBC under the watch of the Sumathipala family and Executive Committee members of the ACBC:

1) A Programme called ‘ Bauddhaloka Wesak’ was commenced in 2002 to light up Colombo during Wesak celebrations and showcase the occasion particularly the elaborate Buddhism themed decorations and festivities at Bauddhaloka Mawatha to the world. This programme continues to this day during Wesak.

2) A Dambadiva Tour Service was inaugurated in 2003 thus enabling thousands of Buddhist pilgrims to travel to India at an affordable price.

3) A Buddhist Renaissance (Punaruda) Project was commenced by the Executive Committee of the ACBC to enable inputs from patriotic scholars directed at the revival and restoration of Buddhism to its rightful place in the country as in the past under Sinhalese Kings when a Buddhist Social Order prevailed to ensure peace, justice and compassion to all living beings.

4) Tsunami Disaster on 26^th December 2004 destroyed / damaged 76 Buddhist temples throughout Sri Lanka. The ACBC came forward and undertook to renovate 20 selected Buddhist temples to protect the sacred places.

5) A Women’s Progressive Society was founded by Dr. Mrs. Milina Sumathipala with the objective of uplifting the lives of rural women and spreading the Dhamma among Buddhist women. The provision of financial assistance to low income groups to cover cost of marriages and shelter for needy families constitute a part of the objectives of this Society.

6) A Commission on Unethical Conversions was established by the ACBC under the guidance of Mr. Jagath Sumathipala (then President of ACBC) in 2006 to investigate the incidence of conversion of Buddhists into other religions by illicit and unethical means. A comprehensive Report containing the findings of this Commission was released in 2009 under the title ‘Report of the Commission Appointed to Inquire and Report on the conversion of Buddhists in Sri Lanka to other Religions by immoral and fraudulent means’. 7) A project entitled ‘Preservation of Archeological Heritage’ was launched in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology with the aim of protecting and preserving the Buddhist archeological heritage and to instill in the Buddhist community a sense of moral responsibility to preserve these heritage sites from generation to generation. The programme commenced by educating the monks via courses.

8) An Annual Buddhist Literature festival was commenced in 2007 to highlight and appreciate the on – going contributions to Buddhist literature and felicitate dedicated Buddhist writers and authors and place on display their literary work and publications.

9) 60^th anniversary of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB)

The WFB was founded by Dr. Gunapala Malalasekera in 1950 with 129 foreign delegates from 29 countries, attending the inaugural session held in Colombo. The head office is currently in Bangkok, Thailand. The 25^th Annual General Conference marking the 60^th anniversary of the WFB was held in Sri Lanka in November 2010 with the main Regional Centre i.e. ACBC, playing the role of host. The total expenditure of staging this event was Rs. 30 million. The Sumathipala family, singularly and on its own, contributed a princely sum of Rs. 10 Million to meet the expenditure and ensure the success of the event. Mr. Jagath Sumathipala is an Executive Council Member of WFB.

 10) In addition the Sumathipala family has fully funded the construction of the Ransivige’ in Dalada Maligawa, the Stupa at Sambuddhaloka Viharaya, Fort and planting of the Ananda Jaya Bodhiya in Sithulpauwa, among others.

11) Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala, brother of Jagath, donated his entire monthly salary which he drew as Chairman of the Sri Lanka Telecom to the ACBC altogether totaling approximately a sum of Rs. 3 Million for the period 2002 to 2004.

These initiatives have been taken single handedly by a family for the betterment of the Buddha Sasana in times where Buddhists did not have the finances to help sustain Buddhism despite the over bearing challenges and incursions into Buddhist space and territory.

It is time to recall and appreciate these noble contributions to the cause of Buddhism by the Sumathipala family with a deep sense of gratitude as extolled by the Buddha.

තමන් අපේක්ෂා කරන අවසාන අරමුණ වූ දරිද්‍රතාවයෙන් පීඩා විදින ත්‍රිකුණාමල දිස්ත්‍රික් ජනතාව නඟා සිටුවීම සඳහා පැහැදිලි අවබෝධයක් සහිත භක්තිමත් අධිෂ්ඨානයකින් යුතුව පුංචිනිලමේ සිය ප්‍රතිපත්ති ගරුක දේශපාලනයෙන් කටයුතු කළේය. ත්‍රිකුණාමලය දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ පැහැබර අනාගතයක වරුණ මතුකර ගැනීමට ජනතාවගේ වැහැරී ගිය ශ්‍රමය යළි පුනර්ජීවනය කරන චින්තනයට ඔහු අඩිතාලම දැම්මේය. වැලලී ගිය සම්පත් යළි උදා කරගැනිමේ සංකල්පය ගොඩ නැගුවේය. ගැමි ජනතාවගේ සැඟවුණු හැකියාවන් ප්‍රතිඋද්දීපනය කිරීමේ ප්‍රාර්ථනාවන් යළි මල්පල ගැන්වීය.

මල්වානට පැණි රඹුටන් සේ කළුතරට මැංගුස් මෙන් මැණිකට නම් දැරූ රත්නපුර මිණිපුරය ඔහුගේ නිජබිම විය. එහි දසතින් නෙත ගැටුනේ ළාහිරු රැසින් රිදී තැටියක් සේ දිලිසෙන කුඹුරු යායක් සහ පෙන බුබුළු නංවමින් ඇදී යන දොල පහරකි. ගැමියන්ගේ හදවත් පෑදුනු දියත්තක් බදුය. වැඩබලන සෞඛ්‍ය ඇමති සහ සබරගමු පළාත් මහ ඇමති වශයෙන් කටයුතු කල ජී.වී. පුංචිනිලමේ ඔහුගේ පියාය. ප්‍රකට දේශපාලන පවුලකින් සමාජ සේවයට පිවිසි හෙතෙම ප්‍රසිද්ධ දේශපාලනයට 1988දී පිවිසෙන්නේ එවකට ජනාධිපති ජයවර්ධනගේ ආරාධනයක් අනුවය. පසු කලෙක වෘක්ෂයක් සේ දළුලා සරුවට වැඩෙන ජනතාවාදී දේශපාලඥයෙකුගේ තිඹිරිගෙය එය විය.

ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂයන්ගේ ඉල්ලීමකට අනුව 2006දී දෙමළ බෙදුම්වාදී ත්‍රස්තවාදයෙන් රට බේරා ගැනීම සදහා පුංචිනිලමේ එක්සත් ජනතා නිදහස් සංධානයට එක්වන්නේ 2006දීය. සියළු දිය සිරාවන්ගෙන් පෝෂණය ලබන ගඟ ඉනික්බිතිව ගඟක්ම විය. එසේමුත් උල්පතකින්, දොළ පහරකින් ලත් උදව් උපකාර නිරතුරුව ආවර්ජනය කරන ගඟක් මෙන් මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂයන් ජනපතිවරණයේදී ඉකුත් 8වැනිදා ලත් පසුබෑමෙන් පසුව හිටපු ජනාධිපතිවරයා පසුපස සිටි නැගෙනහිර පළාතේ අයෝමය ශක්තිය ඔහු විය. නුගේගොඩින් ආරම්භ වූ අනාගතයට සහතිකයක් පෙරවදන සපයන නායකයා වෙනුවෙන් වේදිකාවට ගොඩවූ පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී පුංචිනිලමේ, මහින්ද සුළඟ දසත සිසාරා යද්දී ත්‍රිකුණාමලය දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ ඒ වෙනුවෙන් පෙරට පැමිණි සහ ක්‍රියාකාරීව කටයුතු කල එකම දේශපාලන සෙන්පතියාද වූයේය.

සුසන්ත පුංචිනිලමේ ආත්ම විශ්වාසය සහ බැදුණු අසමසම පෞරුෂයකින් යුත්තය. සුවපහසු රත්නපුරය අතහැර ත්‍රිකුණාමලය දිස්ත්‍රික්කය සිය මූල කඳවුර ලෙස තෝරා ගත්තේ ත්‍රිකුණාමල සංවර්ධනය ප්‍රබෝධමත් කර එහි ජනයා‍ගේ සැගවුණු සම්පත්වලට නව පණක් දීමටය. ත්‍රි’මලේ ජනතාව කෙරෙහි නොපෙනී, නොඇසී, නොදැනී අක්‍රීයව පවතින ශක්තිය උළුප්පවා ඒකරාශි කොට ඵලදායි මාර්ගයක් කරා යොමු කිරීමට පුංචිනිලමේ සමත්විය. පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට හාපුරා 1994 මනාප 57,029ක් ගෙන පැමිණි ඔහු 2000දී මනාප 77,198ක්ද 2001දී මනාප 110,030ක්ද 2004දී මනාප 96,591ක්ද රත්නපුරයෙන් ලබාගත්තේය. ශ්‍රිලනිප නියෝජනය කරමින් 2010 මැතිවරණයෙන් වාර්තාගත මනාප සංඛ්‍යාවක් ලබාගනිමින් ත්‍රිකුණාමලයෙන් ඔහු පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට පත්වූයේ ශ්‍රිලනිපයේ තවත් අයකුටද පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට තවත් අයෙකුටද යෑමේ වරමද ලබාදෙමිනි. පුංචිනිලමේගේ අපරාජිත පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී දිවියට අගෝස්තු 16වැනිදාට වසර 21කි.

සිය දේශපාලන ජීවිතයේදී කුඩා පරිමාන වතු සංවර්ධන ව්‍යාපෘති ඇමති ලෙසත්, ජනතා වතු කළමනාකරන සහ සංවර්ධන රාජ්‍ය ඇමති ලෙසත්, ධීවර සහ ආර්ථික සංවර්ධන නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය තනතුර ඔහු දරණු ලැබීය. නැගෙනහිර නවෝදය වැඩසටහන යටතේ ත්‍රිකුණාමල දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ ගම් නියම්ගම් පුරා දියත්වූ සංවර්ධන කටයුතු වලට මුළුමනින්ම වාගේ නායකත්වය දුන්නේ සුසන්තය. එමගින් දිළිදුකම පිටුදැකීම, මූලික සමාජ සේවා සැපයීම, භූමිය සහ සම්පත් නිසියාකාරව බෙදාහැරීම, රැකියා උත්පාදක වැඩසටහන් තුළින් සමාජ සංවර්ධනය එමගින් උදා විය. මිනිසුන්ගේ විවිධත්වය සහ සංකීර්ණත්වයේ අත්දැකීම්වලට ඇහුන්කන්දීම මගින් ත්‍රිකුණාමලය දිස්ත්‍රික්කය නව අරුණාලෝකයකට මඟ පෑදීය. එතෙක් නොනැසී තිබූ දුප්පතුන්ගේ හඬ අදියරින් අදියර දැන් සමුගනිමින් තිබේ.

ත්‍රිකුණාමලයේ කරදිය සහ මිරිදිය මත්ස්‍ය වගාව ප්‍රචලිත කරමින් ධීවරයින් දහස් ගණනකට අත්වැල සැපයුවේය. අධ්‍යාපනය සඳහා සුවිශේෂි පියවර ගණනාවක් මගින් පාසැල්වල පහසුකම් වැඩිදියුණු කෙ‍රිණි. සාමාන්‍ය පෙළ සමත්වූ සිසුන්ට දිරිගැන්විමේ වැඩසටහන් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමෙන් සරසවි ප්‍රවේශය සඳහා ඇතුළත්වන ශිෂ්‍ය සංඛ්‍යාවේ ප්‍රමාණාත්මක සහ ගුණාත්මක වැඩිදියුණුවක් ඇතිවිය. දෙමළ බෙදුම්වාදී ත්‍රස්තවාදින්ගෙන් විනාශයට පත්වූ ආගමික ස්ථාන වැඩිදියුණු කළේ රජයෙන් දෙන මුදලට පමණක් සීමාවීමෙන් නොව දානපතින්ගේද උදව් උපකාර වලිනි. ත්‍රිකුණාමලය දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ දිස්ත්‍රික් සම්බන්ධිකරණ කමිටු සභාපතිවරයාද වූයේ ඔහුය. දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ විදුලිය ‍නොමැති නිවාස සියයට 95කට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයකට විදුලිය ලබාදිමටද ඔහු සමත්විය.

වැවි බැදි රාජ්‍ය ලෙස නම් ‍‍‍නොකෙරුවද ත්‍රිකුණාමලය දිස්ත්‍රික්කය වැව්, අමුණු, ඇළ‍වේලි ඇතුළු වාරි කර්මාන්තයට වැඩි නැඹුරුතාවයක් දක්වයි. ත්‍රි’මලේ දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ ලොකු කුඩා වැවි 455ක් ඇති අතර ඉන් ‍ගොවිජන සංවර්ධන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව යටතේ ඇති වැවි 428ක්ද මධ්‍යම ප්‍රමාණයේ වැවි 18ක්ද මහවැව ඇතුළු වැව් 9ක්ද නඩත්තුවූයේ ඇමති පුංචිනිලමේගේ සෘජු අධීක්ෂණයෙනි. පරෙව්පඤඤං වැවේ සිට සාලියපුර දක්වා ජලය රැගෙන යන ඇල මාර්ගයේ මුළුමනින් අලුත්වැඩියා කිරීම තුළින් ගොවි පවුල් දහස් ගණනකට සෙත සැදිණි. කන්තලේ ඇල අමුණ පමණක් නොව ඉදිවැව ඇතුළු වැවි අමුණු ගණනාවක්ම ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණයට ලක්විය.

චීන ආධාර යටතේ බිලියන 35ක ආයෝජනයකින් යාන්ඔය ජලාශ්‍ර ව්‍යාපෘතිය මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ විසින් ආරම්භකල අතර ඒ සදහා මුල්වූ කිහිප දෙනා අතර ඔහුද පෙරමුණේ විය. ඒ යටතේ ත්‍රි’ම‍ලේ නිසරු බිම් අක්කර දස දහස් ගණනක් ගෝනෑව වාරි ව්‍යාපෘතිය තුළින් ඉදිරියේදී සරු කෙත්බිම් බවට පත්වනු ඇත. පුංචිනිලමේගේම යෝජනාවක් අනුව පන්කුලම ඔය හරහා ඉදිවන අමුණ තුළින් අක්කර 4,981කට දියවර සපයනුයේ බෙත්තෑව වැව ඇතුළු වැවි 14ක් ජලයෙන් පෝෂණය කරමිනි. දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ වාරි කර්මාන්තය නඟා සිටුවීමට ඔහුකල සැපයීම සුවිශේෂීය. ත්‍රිකුණාමලය දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ අග්‍බෝ යුගයෙන් පසු පුරං කුඹුරු පවා අස්වද්දමින් වාරි කර්මාන්තයේ පුනරුදයක් ඇතිකල යුගය මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ ආණ්ඩුවේ කාලය වූ අතර එහි පෙරගමන්කරුවා වූයේ පුංචිනිලමේය.

දැයේ දු දරුවන්ට යහපත් හෙටක් තන්නට තම පාර්ලිමේන්තු දිවියේ වසර 21ක් අපරාජිතව කටයුතු කල හිටපු ඇමති සුසන්ත පුංචිනිලමේ නොයෙක් නව මංපෙත් තව තවත් එළි පෙහෙළි කිරීමට සහ නැවුම් පැතිකඩකින් සංවර්ධනය දෙස බැලීමට ගෙන ඇති ප්‍රයත්නය ත්‍රිකුණාමල දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ ජනයාගේ නොමද සතුටට හේතුවේ.

Wimal S. Surendra  who was my uncle by relationship, was the chief Photographer attached to the Upali Newspaper company, of the newly started newspaper Divaina in the 1978. He was married and had two children who lived in Aniwatte ancestral home in Kandy. I was schooling and was of the same age as his children.

Around July/August,  the same year we were shocked of the sudden news that he had died in an accident but story was other way about.

He had been returning from Negombo after taking of some photographs of an event participated by the then P.M. Premadasa’s wife madam Hema. On his way on the motor bicycle he was knocked down purposely at Wattala junction and John Amarathunga’s thugs beaten him to death.

It had been a clear murder and planned thuggery of the John Amarathunga who lead the underworld in Wattala area on Negombo road.

The truth was suppressed brutally and all investigations were drowned never to come up.

It is just a tip of an iceberg but one such an example to demonstrate how brutal the UNP is.

I am writing this to remind  all readers what UNP is and what they did since 1977!

In a keynote speech on 23 April 2014, Tony Blair blamed Islamic extremism for failures of western intervention in the Middle East. Here are ten things he neglected to mention about the extremism of his own political career.

1. Tony Blair has never shown a shred of remorse for the extremism of mass slaughter and destruction for which he was directly responsible, not least in Iraq.
2. Tony Blair is a supporter of extremism around the world, whether it be the dictators in Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan, the despots ruling the oil states Kuwait and Bahrain, or Israel’s apartheid regime that occupies Palestinian land in contravention of international law and countless UN resolutions. When prime minister, not content with waging illegal wars, he was up to his neck in CIA torture and kidnapping’every step of the way’.
3. Tony Blair defends and applauds the military coup that overthrew the democratically elected government in Egypt, saying that it ‘was the absolutely necessary rescue of a nation’. He was a supporter of the Egyptian dictator Mubarak, calling him immensely courageous and a force for good”,right up to the day he was overthrown in a popular revolution by the Egyptian people.
4. Tony Blair blindly ignores the catastrophes in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, as he endlessly promotes more western military intervention, whether it be in Syria, Iran or beyond.
5. Tony Blair has called repeatedly for western military intervention in the Syrian civil war. He believes it was a terrible error that the west did not launch an air attack on Syria in August 2013. He says the west should impose no-fly zones and arm directly the Syrian rebels. He believes Britain should have invaded Syria, whether the British public wanted it or not (all opinion polls show a majority of the British public opposes intervention).
6. Tony Blair’s lack of self awareness and remorse makes him a highly dangerous individual and totally unsuited to his role as envoy for peace in the Middle East. He supported Israel’s wars in Lebanon and Gaza. He never loses an opportunity to praise the Israeli apartheid state, one recent example being his sickening eulogy at the funeral of the mass murdering former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, who he called a giant of this land”.
7. Tony Blair is pathologically incapable of recognising that his actions have not lessened, but have hugely exacerbated, the threat of terrorism. When in office, his own foreign policy establishment concluded that his wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were a major driving force behind acts of jihadist violencein Britain and beyond.
   8. When under fire for his disastrous record, Tony Blair’s answer is to blame the Muslims. He attacks Islam as a means of absolving his wars from any connection or responsibility for atrocities like the London bombings on 7 July 2005 and the killing in 2013 of UK soldier Lee Rigby. He accuses Muslims of imposing an ideology based on the belief that there is one proper religion and only one proper view of it. As he well knows, this is not the view of most Muslims in most countries. It is true however of his allies in Saudi Arabia.
8. Tony Blair is an ‘extremist’ when it comes to accumulating vast personal wealth – now calculated to be over £70 million– by exploiting the contacts he made when he was prime minister, committing war crimes that should have seen him behind bars. He sells his services to merchant bankers, oil companies and despotic regimes such as Kazakhstan, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi. He is one of the world’s highest paid public speakers, often earning over £250,000 for one speech. He flies around in a £30 million private chartered jet. On top of this, he takes £435,000 a year from the British taxpayers, who finance the prime minister’s pension of £70,000 which he still draws, the £250,000 cost of his security and £115,000 for his ‘political office’.
9. Such is the widespread revulsion towards Tony Blair’s extremism, that he cannot travel anywhere without fear of facing a citizen’s arrest for his war crimes. There have been five attempts so far. Promises ! Promises !!Promises !!!  But what has UNP done since 1978.

UNP  profiting from a President elected mostly by a Tamil and a Muslim vote not knowing what to do with the Presidency cast upon him fell heavily on  Ranil Wickramasinghe of UNP as his saviour and made him his Prime Minister. Ranil Wickramasighe and his UNP rejected 29 times by the people revelled at the sudden fortune fallen upon them to set up a UNP government with a cabinet of UNP Ministers.

It was a hostile government based on thoughts of revenge ,hatred, jealousy, slandering , and mudslinging at the Previous President Mahinda Rajapakse  and his government and associates.  They continued it for 180 days, having stopped most of the development projects that had been undertaken by the former President and his government.

To-day the Country-Sri Lanka is negatively affected by this hostility of  Ranil Wickramasinghe and his UNP Ministers.

The country under Mahinda Rajapase had developed from being a developing country to a medium income state within ten years of  indefatigable work undertaken by  the previous Government of  determined Mahinda Rajapakse . His object was to  bring Sri Lanka to the top amoung once developing countries and  make it equal to a developed country.

Mahinda Rajapakse would have succeeded despite the barriers put before him by the USA and the West along with a resolution against Sri Lanka for imagined’  violation of human rights  in the elimination of a group of Tamil terrorists, if he had not  unexpectedly suffered a defeat at the Presidential elections of the 8^th January, 2015.

The subsequent setup of  a UNP government headed by Ranil Wickramasinghe, Sri Lanka suffered the most, and has  gone backward in development, and will suffer further in development, security and freedom.  The West, since colonisation of Sri Lanka by the Dutch Portuguese and the British,  was determined to diminish the importance of   Buddhism and the culture  built around it  preserved and protected by the Sinhala.  But the Sinhala and the Buddhist monks were strong and helped by Sinhala Buddhist leaders thwarted this attempts by the West and their local political henchmen.

The West found an ample number of local henchmen to carry out their nefarious activities against developing nations  within  most of the developing countries.  In Sri Lanka they found  in UNP  their breeding place for anti-nationalist, anti Buddhist , activists. The UNP Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapakse said recently that Sri Lanka does not belong to the Sinhala. 

Eran Wickramaratne   and  Hansdunetti of JVP who work along side  the UNP with amoung them a CIA Agent according to latest news, castigated a Sri Lankan expatriate living in London who participated in a TV Political debate(Aluth Paralimenthuwa) to show with photographic evidence the activities of the pro-terrorist Tamil diaspora in UK in collaboration with the British Government, saying that he was raising a racial issue  and  that type of information cannot be accepted.

UNP has other Christian UNP Ministers working  against Sinhala Buddhist issues, such as John Amaratunga, Michael Perera, Rosy Senanayake, Ravi Karunanayake, Mangala Samaraweera, Ranjan Ramanayake, and Ranil Wickramasinghe – himself a Christian.

Now they keep promising lot of things but never keep their promises. Today, Ranil Wickramasinghe promised to build an Island in the Indian Ocean  to accommodate 80 lacks of people.

The UNP has put lacks of people of work with the stoppage of the development projects undertaken by the previous government and promises  20 lacks of jobs for youth.

President Sirisena promises a fundamental transformation to democracy, with a new government . But for all intents and purposes Sri Lanka was always an exemplary democracy and what they propose with fundamental transformation to democracy is another vague unaccountable promise.

Wijedasa Rajapakse promises a new constitution for a pluralistic  society which he does not define.  Madoluwawe Sobhita is promising reforms for a just society which the learned Bikkhu too does not  define.

But there are negative issues which they try to hide such  as a a tax on water, which will be a burden on farmers,  for which a cabinet paper has already been prepared. UNP also suggests a bridge to connect Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka which is already  planned.  Ranil Wickramasinghe promises to give back the Companies taken over by the Sri Lanka government .  Upul Jayasuriya wants to pay compensation to owners of Companies that had been taken over by the government.

There you are  dear voters of Sri Lanka the shape of things to come with a capitalist unrealistic UNP if they come to power.

Should we go by these promises and vote for the UNP for them to carry out the parts of the hidden Agenda, such as a  water tax, bridge to connect Tamil Nadu to North of Sri Lanka, an Island in the Indian Ocean to house 80 lacks of people, a Federal System of Government with a separate Tamil State in the North and a Muslim State in the East.  They also speak of an American base in the North and perhaps lease Mattala airport to an American Private Company.

The alternative is what had been done by Mahinda Rajapakse from 2005 to 2014.  Those activities  that had been undertaken and completed successfully are there to be scene. They are real.

Going by what Mahinda Rajapakse had done after elimination of terrorists it is evident that he keeps his promises.

And going from what he had done,  what he promises to do if he were to come back as the Prime Minister  cannot be doubted.  He is a man who had been tried out by the people and approved as a genius who changed Sri Lanka from a hell that it was when he became the President in 2005 to a Paradise when he left on the 8^th January,2015.

Of course  Ranil Wickramasinghe, and his UNP Ministers will not give credit to what Mahinda Rajapakse has done, as condemning his work is a means for them to dupe the voters to get their votes.

Ranil Wickramasinghe and his UNP Ministers are now wallowing in the environment of peace and freedom without fear, which Mahinda Rajapakse has provided by eliminating terrorism, building a strikingly beautiful infrastructure and make Sri Lanka a place equal to many place in developed countries.

 Hence Dear Voters do not hesitate, do not go by negative publicity about MahindaRajapakse and his previous Government .  Neither  Mahinda Rajapakse nor his entourage has stolen any money from any projects.

 Ranil Wickramasinghe and  his hostile UNP Ministers tried since January 8^th 2015 to prove that Mahinda Rajapakse , his government and every one connected to him had stolen public money, but have miserably failed to prove one case against any one of them. 

Some of those with Mahinda Rajapakse  may have had human failings common to every one but none of them have  been proved to have embezzled public funds. 

These were methods  imagined and  proposed by the CIA as a means to make Rajapaksas unpopular and change regime.  These are well tried out methods suggested by CIA which is in close contact with Ranil Wickramasinghe Mangala Samaraweera and the rest to keep Mahinda Rajapakse from coming back to power as the Prime Minister.

Having failedto bring disrepute to Mahinda Rajapakse with all accusations of theft and bribery, now they sayt hat Mahinda Rajapakse paid Millions of Rupees to Prbahakaran to assure his safety and that of his family. UNP really takes the people for fools.

If you the Voters get fooled by these blatant lies and vote against Mahinda Rajapakse, you will be doing a mistake you will regret all your life. Because if UNP comes back to power it will sell Sri Lanka to America and the West and divide the country between the Tamils and the Muslims. If that  happens you will never be able to put it back to right again.

Therefore be wise and intelligent think and discuss amoung yourselves and understand exactly what you are doing  and ask yourself  whether you are doing the correct thing.

If you have any doubts about  Mahinda Rajapake and vote against him Sri Lanka will be doomed for ever.  There is no real reason to doubt the honesty of Mahinda Rajapakse. He is a real patriot, and above all he is a Buddhist.

Vote for the Betel Leaf to bring back Mahinda Rajapakse as the Prime Minister and be assured you will not regret. 

 That will be the act of your life time, for which the generations to come will thank you with gratitude.

With a bounty on his head for complicity that led to a million or more deaths an invasion based on lies and a dossier full of allegations of conflict of interest, Tony Blair declared guilty as a war criminal by the People’s Court has arrived in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks. More than suspicious having browsed through the portfolio of side-dealings associated with Blair ever since he left office in 2007. Not motivated by money, he says read on to understand how he represents the imperial agenda that is now slowly descending on Asia having destroyed the Middle East and neutralized the American public into a nation suffering the ills of Western liberalism.

If Iraq was an invasion based on lies it means that everything that followed were also lies. What about the highly classified program of secret detention and ‘extraordinary rendition’ of terrorist suspects who were seized and secretly flown across national borders to be interrogated by foreign governments that used torture, or by the CIA itself in clandestine black sites” using torture techniques. Ranil Wickremasinghe PM in 2002 collaborated with the US torture/rendition program and allowed CIA to use the international airport as a transit point. These tortures were violations of international humanitarian law & Geneva Conventions.

In inquiry into Britains role in Iraq was ordered by PM Gordon Brown in 15 June 2009 and headed by Sir John Chilcot. That report is unlikely to be released on account of the damaging contents and the implications to the UK Govt and Tony Blair in particular.

Why Tony Blair is a War Criminal

• Blair committed a crime against peace under Nuremberg Principles planning, preparing, initiation or waging of a war of aggression”. Iraq war was a crime of aggression and violated Article 33 and Article 51 of the UN Charter
• Blair knowingly broke international law – 8 months before Iraq invasion Lord Goldsmith senior legal advisor in the British Government informed Blair that attacking Iraq would be a breach of international law/UN Charter. Lord Goldsmith stated that Britain could not use ‘self defense’ because Iraq had not threatened Britain. Blair ignored Goldsmith’s letter and banned him from attending cabinet meetings and denied him going public.
• Blair ignored his own Cabinet – Foreign Secretary Jack Straw’s advice that Britain had no legal conditions for war were ignored.
• Blair lied that the UN Security Council Resolution 1441 authorized war. This resolution passed on 8 Nov 2002 gave Iraq a final opportunity to comply with disarmament obligations but the Resolution did not authorize war.
• Blair lied, deceived and mislead the British to hype a false threat from Iraq to justify war.
  • Example 1: In April 2002 Blair claimed Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of chemical & biological weapons (inspite of British intelligence saying the contrary a month before)
  • Example 2: Blair claimed publicly that Iraq posed a regional threat. The previous month a cabinet paper says Saddam was not a serious threat to neighbors.
  • Example 3: Bush and Blair in a joint press conference quoted IAEA to claim Iraq was 6 months away from developing a nuclear weapon. IAEA spokesman Mark Gwozdecky denied the agency issued such a report.
  • Example 4: Blair claimed in September 2002 that Iraq had existing and active military plans for the use of chemical and biological weapons which could be activated within 45 minutes” Another lie.
• Documents released by the US have revealed that thousands of pounds worth of gifts had been exchanged between George Bush and Tony Blair all of which were not declared. Mr Blair received undeclared gifts worth £2,700.

Blairs lies & illegal war on Iraq has resulted in

• At least 108,000 Iraqi civilian deaths (Iraq Body Count Project) following the 2003 March invasion
• Tens and thousands of Iraqis are wounded, traumatized and millions are displaced.
• Lies & an illegal war has left 5000 military personnel dead
• The environment of Iraq is destroyed having dropped banned chemicals
• Children are born deformed, water is polluted, there is no end to bombing.

Arrest Blair

A website http://www.arrestblair.org/performing-a-citizens-arrest has put a bounty on the arrest of Tony Blair and even advises people who to make a citizens arrest. Six such attempts have been made so far. The first in 2010 by Grace McCann as Blair was leaving the Chilcot Inquiry. The next by David Cronin who approached Blair who did get close enough to say ‘this is a citizens arrest’. Another attempt was made by Kate O’Sullivan at his book signing in Dublin, Ireland and she received her cheque for £3,129.02 as well. In 2012 Tom Grundy attempted to arrest Tony Blair while he was speaking at Hong Kong University. Then came Twiggy Garcia’s attempt in 2014 while Blair came to the pub. Therefore, it goes to show that the people are very angry with Tony Blair for his role in totally ruining a nation. 

Hiding behind a pretentious FAITH foundation, war criminal Blair is aligned with Saudi and allies to arm and fund Islamic extremists the world over while helping spread Wahhabi Islam which helps Western imperialists use their ‘intervention’ to invade, occupy and take over nations while changing the demography using their Evangelical organizations now cleverly linked as NGOs to Western Government funds and posing as bogus ‘civil society’ agents.

In viewing the manner Blair has nicely set himself up as an agent of a global imperial agenda his 2 week visit to Sri Lanka is no holiday and it would be good for the Muslim journalists of Sri Lanka to seek an interview with Blair and question him on the lies that destroyed a fellow Muslim nation and led to the destabling of the entire Middle East as well.

Rosy Senanayake boasts, beating her own tom-tom, that she never can say can’t”. That word is never in her vocabulary, she says. Any woman who can’t says can’t” is bound to end up in all sorts of trouble. Obviously, she must be like the proverbial hitha-honda ghani” who is always pregnant.  Most  likely these poor things are bound to up in the maternity ward singing : I should have danced all night!” In fact, at one point she claims that she had delivered within 100 days more than any other competitor in the field. She displays her come-on-onah-ekek” attitude in her latest interview with the Daily Mirror. In it there is no end to her macho politics.

That’s fair enough. This  is election time  and as there is no one else to talk for Rosy Senanayake she has a right to write some advertisements to give a glossy veneer to her heavily painted cosmetics. Constantly pulling her sari pota nervously to keep both shoulders covered, she announced that only born-again Ranil Wickremesinghe, her new found lord after ditching Sajith Premadasa, can perform the miracle of running an oligarchy disguised as a democracy. To sum  up she says: Can you find anyone else like me – me – me — who can talk about me delivering all the  great things that no one has delivered before me, eh?She has all the characteristics of a loud-mouthed evangelist from the pop Christian cults in the American Bible Belt but not the quiet depth that inheres in profound Christian theology. Her brand of Christianity was typified by Burt Lancaster in his role as Elmer Gantry, a tour de force, marketing pop Christianity in the film classic of that name.

She brings that evangelical marketing techniques to her politics. She must be excused. As she says, after 28 years in the UNP, of which 21 has been in the Opposition with her failed guru, Ranil Wickremesinghe, the time has come to go forth and tell the world the great wonders she  and the 100-day” oligarchy had achieved. So she declares :  I think no government has delivered what we have delivered in 100 days”.  Alleluia! Praise my lord Wickremesinghe, who art in the FCID (Fascist Centre for Indicting Dissidents),  she says.  Alleluia!

Apart from praising her lord who is in the FCID,  she told the Daily Mirror that one spoon of  honey with breakfast is good for the day. Her boast of performing  wonders  within 100 days which no other government has done could be possibly due to the rush of blood caused by her taking more than one  spoon of honey for breakfast on the day she gave her  interview.

Anyway, let’s tick one by one the deliveries” made within 100 days by Wicky-Siri oligarchy which she praises as a unique achievement. I must confess that her accuracy is impeccable. Here’s the list of achievements which she forgot  to mention :

1. No government in known history has caused the biggest banking scandal within 100 days.
2. No government has  imported a foreigner and handed over the Central Bank for him to gift a dowry of Rs. 420 million to his daughter, through his  son-in-law who was a registered bond  dealer with the Central Bank at the time.
3. No Prime Minister has been a part of  the bond  scandal at the time the deal was pushed through.
4. And when the scandal was exposed by a Parliamentary Committee no government rushed to censor the publication of its findings.
5. No government promised to clean up the nation within 100 days and failed to do so even after six months.

If nothing else, these five deliveries / achievements” alone are sufficient to confirm that the born-again Rosy Senanayake’s 100-day” oligarchy has broken all records. But let’s not stop at  that. Let’s go further to consider the deliveries /achievements” of her oligarchy :

6. No sensible leader had promised to deliver the ideal society” (Ranil’s manifesto) within 100 days and failed, as promised, to stop corruption (new contracts for road construction on a corrupt deals exposed by Rajiva Wijesinha) cronyism (example: Wickremesinghe appoints his pet MP, Sagala Ratnayake’s brother as Chairman of Lake House) and nepotism (example : President Sirisena appointing his brother to head the Telecom).
7. No government before  has cut  down plans  of constructing three-lane  highways to two and accused the  previous regime of producing costly highways.

8.. No government has nominated corrupt and not-so-clean NGO wallahs to a Constitutional Council which is meant to keep the administration clean with the appointment of Mr and Ms, Cleans.

9. No government has appointed cronies and classmates to diplomatic posts after promising to keep 80% for career diplomats
10. No government has appointed a new Police wing, (a.k.a. FCID ) without the approval of  Parliament, to summon and persecute political opponents within the first weeks, with Rosy’s lord, Wickremesinghe, (Alleluia! ) presiding over it.

11, No head of government went to London to visit the Queen and shook her bare hands hand without gloves. Wow! What an achievement for Rosy within 100 days, eh? Alleluia!

Not satisfied with singing  the praises of  her lord, Wickremesinghe, she has rushed to include the President. Maithripala Sirisena too in her amazing 100-day government”.

She says that there has not been a better combination of leaders than in this Yahapalanaya. Obviously, she has not seen double bullock carts going up Haputale hill drawn by breathless twin bulls!

But consider the following :

12. No government ran an oligarchy with a nominated – not elected – prime minister for six months after promising to hold elections within 100 days. Praise, Rosy’s lord (Wickremesinghe) and her master (Sirisena) for running  this unique oligarchy in the name of  democracy!
13. The twins have functioned so effectively that when one gives the order to clean up the administration the other ignores it. In the words of Sirisena, when  he asked Wickremesinghe to get rid of the Governor of the Central Bank he virtually asked Sirisena to fly a kite. Aren’t the double bullock carts going up Haputale  hill better managed than the twins running Yahapalanaya, with one sacking  the governor and the other keeping him, eh?
14. Both of them jointly steered the Titanic”, in the words of Sirisena. Though Sirisena claims that he saved it from  sinking there has  been no record of any one of the Titanics being saved.

Thais means Rosy too is going down in Wicky-Siri’s Titanic. Alleluia!

 The present unpredictable scenario in world politics is certainly conveying an important message universally to the entire world population.  The recent general election results in the UK were astonishing, unexpected and amazing! David Cameron’s sweeping victory shattered all predictions of politicians, political pundits and media analysts and managed to send the main opposition rival Labour Party into a frenzy and its leader to elegantly back out; Liberal Party leader and the leader of the UK Independent Party  (UKIP) also honourably resigned from their positions by conveying a message to the world at large that ‘ hanging on to power once defeated is not their style’!

After David Cameron’s return to No. 10 Downing Street, London’s Daily Telegraph came up with a headline with a pronouncement: A fresh era of British Politics dawns”; The Times added: Cameron would need every ounce of statesmanship to surmount the challenges facing him with a slim majority, which would not be easy but his real work starts now”.

 A similar situation arose in Sri Lanka on the 8th of January 2015 when Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was sworn in for a six-year term initially, with full Executive Powers as the President of the Country on 19 November 2005, was replaced by peoples’ majority decision in a poll   held two year’s prior to its next due date.  The result being, the present incumbent President, Maithripala Sirisena’s promise during his election campaign to bring about a ‘yaha palanaya’  (honorable governance) and to eradicate all ‘corruption and bribery that had been ingrained into the existed system which acted as a parasite on the society as a whole’, appealed to the masses.  The general consensus of the people when Maithripala Sirisena surfaced as the winner made many to believe in a ‘divine intervention’ to save this sacred Island nation at the nick of time.

The Difference

The vast difference between Sri Lankan and British politics, which is ‘poles apart’, is that the British have always enjoyed the reputation of maintaining a high standard in public life when it came to represent the very people elected them to public office. Occasionally, of course, as in any scenario, there have been instances where a Member of Her Majesty’s Government was caught with his pants down by being ignominious at which point the politician, whether it was a member of parliament or a government minister, always resigned from office with dignity.

During the past six months what people have seen on TV and read in newspapers was an unprecedented situation of various big wigs of the old regime, including that of senior executives and administrative staff, being summoned to the Bribery Commission and Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) almost on a daily basis, which in certain opposition politicians’ eyes were seen as ‘ political vendetta’!  Certainly, there is no fire without smoke!

However, the new temporary administration insisted that what was taking place was giving every ‘ accused’ a fair chance of presenting and defending oneself before a court of justice, as opposed to decisions taken in the past according to the whims and fancies of a single high-powered individual or in kangaroo style court! In this regard, when the ousted Mahinda Rajapaksa made an appeal to President Maitreepala Sirisena, during a couple of meetings some of the UPFA members organised, made an appeal to the President ‘ to refrain from political vitimisation’ on members of his UPFA (coalition), the simple answer from the President was quoted as saying: ‘ let them take refuge in the Courts’, which many endorsed as ‘ yaha palanaya’ true to its meaning!

Nolan Committee

Sometime ago the British government appointed a team called The Nolan Committee to bring about a code of conduct to British Ministers. Subsequently, the Commission came up with three principles, the very essential element of which being the British Constitution – The Cabinet Responsibility. This meant that the Ministers were required to uphold collective responsibility and decisions to arrive at by becoming obligatory and mandatory on all members of the government.

It also highlighted cabinet ministers’ accountability to the parliament on policies, decisions and actions on their departments and agencies and expected ministers to be open and transparent and not to misinform, deceive or hoodwink the parliament and the public.

The other most relevant recommendation of the Nolan Committee was to avoid any conflict situations between public and the private interests; non acceptance of gifts or hospitality which might appear to be compromised, as such to keep ministerial and constitutional interests separate.

Responsibility and Accountability

It is pertinent to quote here what President Maithripala Sirisena had to state recently when he addressed an audience of Nurses from the Presidential Secretariat how he had delegated full authority and responsibility to the outgoing Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne, as well as to all the other ministers in his cabinet to discharge their responsibilities effectively and independently (Konda Panathiyagana Weda Karanna) without out any hindrance or interference from him.

Although Sri Lanka has adopted most of the British parliamentary practices, many today question after seeing ministers, politicians and administrators, and once senior powerful figures of the past regime parading in front of TV cameras coming out of the Bribery Commission offices or at the threshold of the FCID and pretending to be relishing with pride by raising their cuffed hands with broad smiles to their supporters and pretending to be quite happy about it when actually they are being escorted by prison guards and police officers to the Black Maria after shameful interrogations.  This made one wonder whether those contemporary representatives of the people who had entered Sri Lankan politics recently were even aware of the elements of parliamentary conduct and practices in the first instance!

In Sri Lanka various professional bodies have adopted copious codes of conduct to represent their industrial woes and to seek justice to their assertions. Public has not forgotten when doctors’ went on strike, the call that came from the general public for doctors to abide by the Hippocratic oath.  Shouldn’t a code of conduct for politicians also in a similar manner be introduced in the future?  Perhaps, after forthcoming elections to be held on 17 August 2015, a completely diverse and a distinctive   national government expected to be formed under the agis of President Maithripala Sirisena, a behavioral program similar to the code of conduct introduced in the UK parliament can only cement a justifiable administration and help make it work effectively by extending its tentacles equally to administrators, the police, security forces as well as to the judiciary to exemplify their duties to the general public, especially by uprooting all inclement elements and getting rid of the rotten residue from the old system and replenishing with new ideas and new patriotic set of officials  who are sincere, hardworking  and inclined to work for the betterment of the people and  to maintain a just society.

Lessons from past.

The late Wijeyananda Dahanayake, who was a popular member of parliament from Galle, and a short, lived Prime Minister in Sri Lanka, set the divine example by commuting always between Galle and Colombo by train.  In doing so, he always chose to travel inside a third class compartment intermingling with the general commuters. When a journalist once asked him the reasons behind his decision, his answer was apt: Because there is no 4th class in the train”!

Sri Lanka could be classified as the only country where the modern politician abuses privileges exceedingly. Britain is a classic example to prove this point where politicians commute by British Rail, the Underground railway and some even riding bicycles to their offices! The thought process between the British and Sri Lankan politician seems to be evidently different, for, the British think they are representatives of the people, whereas our elected lot in Sri Lanka seem to get the wrong idea that they are of a different breed altogether and many seem to dwell in cloud nine!

An extraordinary feature of the majority of our Sri Lankan bygone politicians was that many entered the political arena out of their sheer patriotism and the yearning to work for the people. Besides, many of them were icons of wealthy families who died after spending all their fortunes on politics.

It’s very sad to note that modern politics in Sri Lanka have diluted to become a thriving industry where thoughts of many hinge on possessing duty free vehicles, official residences and bodyguards only. The reason for this could be ascribed to the fact that only a handful of them have such attributes of their ‘ancestors’, from local government members, Provincial Councilors or Members of Parliament, a degree of vulgar affluence seems to affect them. Perhaps on the day and with the elimination of the ‘proportional representation system,’ mother Lanka will be able to wean a new breed of sober, efficient, clean, educated and uncorrupt politicians in the future.

According to this prognostication the future of the Nation Island will be influenced by the novel idea of maître yaha palanaya with virtuous politicians and rulers only surviving and rotten tyrants getting completely eradicated.

Sri Lanka has been flooded with fundamental Christian NGOs – the number has been put at 300 by surveys. There is a daily phenomena in the press where large number of these NGO’s are applying for registration to the Registrar of Companies, as religious companies. Truly they are religious companies marketing Evan Gelis M, in remote villages and in the estate sector. They do so by exploiting poverty by unethical methods by bribery and fraudulent ways such as cash, dry rations, clothing and even employment, by saying it is the gift of god who has seen the plight of the believing unsophisticated villager or estate worker.

In the process they in a subtle way try to undermine the age old Buddhist or Hindu way of life by providing breeding material for piggeries, poultry and goat rearing which fosters killing. In this way they assail the socio-religious-cultural life of the village.

The regional centre for strategic studies who did a survey of evangelism in Sri Lanka as far back as 1998 forecast a conflict situation leading to violence as in some Asian countries. This forecast has come true as there has been 40-50 incidents in different parts of the country leading to violence. These incidents are rarely reported in the press. Recently in the uncleared area of Eravur, on May 25, a mob of about 500 Hindus attacked the new church and manhandled the pastor. Eravur police stepped in but were outnumbered by the mob and had to withdraw with the pastor. The government has to take serious notice of this grave situation and take meaningful steps to control the escalation of the problem.

The government’s hand is being further strengthened by two landmark judgements of the Supreme Court against unethical conversions in determination Case No. 2/2001 dated 24.5.2001 and Case No. special determination 2/2003 of 24.01.2003 wherein the Supreme Court has specifically ruled “The freedom guaranteed by article 10 (of the constitution) to every person to adopt a religion or belief of his choice postulates that the choice stem from the free exercise of one’s thoughts and conscience without there being any fetter or allurement which in any way distorts that choice. (Sc 2/2001).

“The constitution guarantees to every person the basic choice he makes with regard to his religion or belief, would be taken with complete freedom without being exposed to any undue influence or fraud”. (Sc. 2/2003).

The country takes precedence over any other thing says CBK. This is dead right. This is why Mahinda Rjapaksha despite enormous pressure exerted by the West to save the LTTE and Prabhakaran, took all the pressure on himself and mobilized the Nation to pave the way for the security forces to defeat LTTE terrorism.

Once again Sri Lanka is under threat not due to an impending war by ex-LTTE cadres and or diaspora ; but due to an ongoing internal political and constitutional subterfuge, supported by the LTTE diaspora,  some western governments, and Tamil Nadu to pressure Sri Lanka to award a federal government to a combined northern and eastern Province. This is invisible than the Eelam wars; hence more dangerous.

Some would say that this is exaggerated talk designed to confuse people?

It is not; this is evidence based reasoning.  There is clear evidence of an impending threat: TNA’s 2015 Manifesto refers to the principle of national self-determination and winning a federal form of government as the electoral goal of the 2015 parliamentary election. At a launch meeting of the TNA Manifesto, it was reported in a few media that the people were psychologically and emotionally persuaded by the organizers to invoke  Prabhakaran as a hero who brought Tamils of Sri Lanka into international prominence

The Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Chief Minister (CM) played a different role in establishing pre-conditions for identifying North as an independent entity. He called upon international organizations to provide international assistance directly to the Northern Provincial Council (NPC).To catalyse the ire of the international community the CM made a statement that since D.S. Senanayaka’s time the Sri Lankan governments had committed genocide against the Tamils. The Wickramasinghe Administration did not take up issue on either of the two statements. The second erroneous statement may create an impression that the Tamil people need to be separated from the Sinhalese in order for them to be safe.

Mrs. Vijayakala Mahendran, the UNP’s lead candidate for the Jaffna district, as informed by Dr.Dayan Jayatilaka at a TV interview with CSN, had prevented the raising of the National Flag of Sri Lanka at a cricket event in the peninsula. She is also quoted by Hindu as having told the Paper that the Wickramasinghe administration had agreed to give autonomy to the North. This was followed up by Mr. Sumanthiran in a statement to the ‘Divaina’ Sinhala newspaper of August 10 to the effect that western governments have agreed to establish a Federal Government in the North of Sri Lanka. All these and the below noted international signals tend to give the impression that the North is a distinct entity, and plans are a- foot to strongly publicise such an unfortunate rhetoric.

The most recent is the war crimes investigation document of the United Nations Human Rights Commissioners office leaked to the international media. The most dangerous recommendation said to contain in the document is that the national war crimes investigation should be done by both the Central Government of Sri Lanka and the Northern Provincial Council. If the leaked document is accurate, the implication of this recommendation is that the United Nations has apparently and may be perhaps innocently equated the Republic of Sri Lanka to the Northern Provincial Council in Sri Lanka. However, such unfortunate references may provide an opportunity for extreme groups to push the issue that the north is different and a separate entity. And about 2-3 months ago, the Ceylon Daily News an organ of the State Media reported that the Head of UNDP in Sri Lanka had reported about a ‘Northern province Government or a similar idea. Neither the government of Sri Lanka nor the United Nations had corrected this erroneous comment,( to the best of my knowledge).

The Asian Tribune has raised another serious issue– that is the planned entry of the United Nations Peace Building Fund (UNPBF) to the north and east of Sri Lanka. The Asian Tribune article titled UN in Jaffna: Needs answers from Sri Lanka Government” published  on August 06, 2015, states that the operatives within the Tamil Diaspora have been advocating a UN entry to these provinces to administer affairs in the region to lessen the authority of Sri Lanka’s central government”. The article raises the concern that the LTTE diaspora’s hidden agenda for advocating UNPBF’s presence in the north and east may be to advocate for a UN sponsored referendum in the north and east.

It thus appears that many local and foreign interest groups are apparently synchronizing their activities to advocate a federal solution for the north and east. Unfortunately the vast majority of Sri Lankans are currently involved in a game of electoral politics without a concern about the effect of a call for federalism on the territorial integrity of the Country.

We are not questioning the right of political parties and personalities to make statements urging federalism. But we are questioning the attitude of some of the politicians in the government that equate a public discussion of the implications of giving federalism to the north ( and east) to raising communalism and catalyzing communal disharmony in the country. This attitude borders on application of double standards.

Even though Sri Lanka defeated separatist terrorism, it appears that a fresh political and constitutional battle is beginning to be waged against the unitary state of Sri Lanka. What the LTTE could not achieve with its military might, (in Sri Lanka), the LTTE diaspora, western governments , Tamil Nadu, some international agencies , TNA, and foreign funded ‘civil society’ groups are planning to achieve  through political  cunning. The apparent plan is to dupe the power-eager political elements who want to convert their short run of governance into a much longer run, by offering support to form a political union that would be pressured to provide plums to the north and the east.

The August 17^th would really be a choice between those patriotic forces who want  to keep Sri Lanka as a unitary country where all citizens the Sinhalese the Tamils and the Muslims can continue to live not in idealistic harmony(which is not available even in the USA) , but certainly in positive harmony as we have been living for centuries, but with the added assurance that aberrations that occurred in the fifties, late seventies and in 1983 would never  be allowed to happen.  All communities would also be positively and pro-actively supported to enhance the quality of harmony, and fundamental rights, through the introduction of new legal, educational, economic, and human rights measures brought in by a leader who has learnt lessons due to the weaknesses of his previous administration. This group also did start economic renaissance-oriented activities on an unprecedented scale national scale(since the Accelerated Mahaweli scheme), while bringing back universal franchise to the people of the north, which was deprived to them for about two decades.

On the other side are forces that supported the ill-advised draft constitution that attempted to force a Confederal system of governance on Sri Lanka in the mid to late 1990s,and a Post Tsunami  Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS) which attempted to give greater power to the LTTE to rule the north and the east. Both were rejected. This same side is also integrally linked to the forces that supported the signing of the 2001 Cease Fire Agreement with the LTTE under Norwegian guidance .The CFA which was designed to bring peace to the country did not succeed in bringing any real and palpable peace to Sri Lanka as proved by the enormous number of contraventions of the provisions of the CFA by LTTE.  The ultimate purpose of the CFA was to reach a political solution through peace talks. The LTTE dashed those expectations by unilaterally withdrawing from the peace talks. The majority of Sri Lankans who were better readers of the minds of separatists knew that this would eventuate.

On August 17 people would decide whether the country would move towards the facilitation of a gradual but sustainable ethnic reconciliation process through the maintenance of a unitary system of government combined with the implementation of politically feasible and peace-nurturing new devolution mechanisms,  OR take a path leading towards the potential of gradual destabilization, through a series of divisive and emotionally-charged  power struggles to bring in a federal system of government with participation of some western international  elements and the LTTE diaspora.

It is imperative for all Sri Lankans to understand the issues facing the Country at this crucial time.

Former Lance Corporal of Sri Lanka Military Police, Indrananda de Silva, reveals the last moments of JVP leader Rohana Wijeweera before he was killed after interrogation.
Q: What is your name?
A: Indrananda de Silva.
Q: Do you remember
November 1989?
A: The most unfortunate incident of my life took place in that month.

Q: What were you then?
A: I was a Lance Corporal of Sri Lanka Military Police.
Q: What was your duty?
A: I was the photographer for Military Police.
Q: Where were you on the night of 12 November?
A: I was sleeping in the single officers’ billet of Military Police in Narahenpita, Colombo.
Q: What was the time?
A: About 1 a.m.
Q: What happened?
A: I was fast asleep. An officer came and woke me. He was Captain Abeynayaka. He asked me to get up silently, get the camera equipment ready and get into the Commanding Officer’s car, parked in the compound. It was special duty. Lights were not switched on. Everything was done in darkness.
Q: What did you think?
A: It was 12 November, 1989 and I suspected that I too had been exposed, since I was sympathetic towards the JVP. Several friends of mine, who were in the armed services had disappeared then. I suspected it was a plant to abduct me.
Q: What did you do?
A: I took out the camera equipment and put a revolver, I had secretly kept, into my bag. But, I thought again that if there was only suspicion about me, the pistol could prove it. It was not the property of the Army. Therefore, I kept it back in my secret hiding place within the photography unit. Then I walked out with only the camera equipment.
The CO’s vehicle was there and the CO was in it. I got in and the vehicle drove off silently. When the vehicle passed Narahenpita fair, the CO asked if I had a girlfriend. I said no. CO said he would not question me but I should not divulge the incident to anybody. I had suspicion, but I had never thought of arresting a person of Comrade Wijeweera’s calibre.
Q: Who was this CO?
A: Colonel Dassanayaka. He was commanding our unit.
Q: Where was your vehicle driven to?
A: We went directly to the Ops Combine operation centre in Thimbirigasyaya.
Q: Who was there?
A: We climbed the steps. There were 15 seniormost Army officers there. I understood that something important was happening there.
Q: What happened next?
A: An officer asked if the photographer had come and suggested photos be taken.
Q: What was happening there?
A: In the main conference hall, 15 officers were sitting at the round table. I did not recognize the person sitting on the main chair. That person was handed over to me to be photographed.
Q: Did you speak with him?
A: I didn’t know who he was. Therefore, I inquired from an officer. He said that the person was Rohana Wijeweera.
Q: What came to your mind?
A: I could not think of anything. I had seen Comrade Wijeweera at a meeting when I was schooling. Then he had long hair. I could not imagine that this was him. I thought it was a conspiracy. There were such actions then.
Q: Did you speak to him?
A: A screen was arranged to photograph him. While arrangements were being made I asked who he really was. He smiled and replied he was Wijeweera. When I asked where he was caught, he said the officers captured him at Ulapane.
Q: What else did you
talk to him about?
A: I had only two minutes to talk to him while the screen was arranged. I understood that he was Wijeweera who had cut his hair short and shaved. I took several photographs and an officer asked him to pose smilingly for one.
Q: Did he smile then?
A: He did not pay attention to that. I captured several photographs from the front and sides. Then our video crew arrived there. An officer said to record the video. I moved aside and they arranged for the video.
Q: How long did it take
for the video?
A: About 40 or 45 minutes.
Q: You said there were about 15 senior officers. Who were they?
A: General Cecil Waidyarathna was the most senior officer. There were Brigadiers Lucky Algama and Jayasundara, Colonels Ivan Dassanayaka, Balagalla, Lieutenant Colonel Janaka Perera, who was the chief of the intelligence wing, Captains Gamini Hettiarachchi, Muthalif, Weerasinghe, Abeynayaka, Thoradeniya and the famous Udugampola’s brother Padmasiri.
Q: Did they give instructions to Wijeweera about the way to speak in the video?
A: No. They asked him to say what he had in brief.
Q: Did he continue to speak?
A: They were around him listening. Comrade Rohana went on speaking. Nobody objected and nobody made suggestions.
Q: What were the feelings and expressions on Wijeweera’s face when the video was recorded?
A: He appeared to be in a state of shock. The movement had been destroyed then. His face said that everything had come to an irreparable end. He controlled his emotions and faced the moment boldly. He clearly presented how the JVP was pushed out of the democratic path and suppressed.
Q: Only five minutes of Wijeweera’s last speech was aired on television.
What was hidden?
A: Leutinent Muthalif took both the video cassette and the negatives of photographs from me.
Q: I want to know exactly what Wijeweera said.
A: He explained that the aim of JVP politics was not arming. He recalled the elections of 1982. He said that we had done everything in the democratic manner contesting elections. He pointed out that the JVP was wrongly banned by connecting it to the Black July. This injustice was revealed to everybody in order to get the ban withdrawn, but nobody listened, to them. Several Party members were also killed. The Party had been informed of the plans to murder the leaders. The situation was not good for open politics. We had the challenge of either quiting politics or facing suppression. He said that the party had opted to face suppression.
“We did not select this path willingly. We are ready to quit the armed struggle whenever the democratic space is opened.” He demanded that students and youth lay down arms and join the democratic mainstream again.
Q: What were the expressions on the faces of the officers when the speech ended?
A: He was taken to the discussion table again after the video was recorded. Again he was questioned for about 30 minutes. Several officers were shocked with those answers.
Q: What did Comrade
Wijeweera say?
A: He said that we knew how the Premadasa regime had given arms, cement and money to the LTTE in Wanni jungle. He said that those weapons would be turned on us one day. He pointed out that we had to hand over weapons to the separatists while killing the patriotic people of South. He appealed to the officers to awaken their conscience without letting this crime continue. He also begged of them not to darken the future of the country further.
Q: What special questions
did they ask?
A: They asked if he had trained as guerilla. He said no and provided a long reply saying he had been among people. He said what he wanted. I noticed the officers were shocked with the answers. They did not know that Comrade Wijeweera would be killed.
Q: Did somebody question
about the killing of Vijaya Kumaratunga?
A: Yes. They asked why Vijaya Kumaratunga was killed. “No, we did not kill him. I think it was a result of a political march with the support of the government,” he replied. When repeatedly questioned, he said that the JVP did not want to kill Vijaya Kumaratunga. He said that JVP was criticical and was not happy with his political strategy.
Q: Did anybody question in a threatening tone?
A: No. The questioning was very cordial. I noticed they were shocked and agitated with the answers.
Q: What happened after that?
A: After 20 minutes, Cecil Waidyarathna opened the door of his room and called several persons by their names.
Q: Who were called?
A: Five or six persons, including Colonel Ivan Dassanayaka, Major Thoradeniya and Superintendent of Police Ronnie Gunasinghe. Their discussion ended in 15 minutes.
While the discussion was going on, I was taken to a room on the ground floor and several photos of Comrade H.B. Herath were taken. He was half dead then. We put him against a wall with difficultly and took several photographs. His face was swollen and the entire body was blue.
Q: What was said after
you came up again?
A: Wijeweera was ordered to be taken downstairs. Several persons came with him. All thought he would be taken somewhere. Nobody thought he would be killed.
Q: Didn’t you scent that he
was to be killed?
A: I understood that something dangerous was taking place. Muthalif told me the trouble was over. I asked him why he said so. He said Rohana Wijeweera’s work would be finished that day. I felt what was going to happen. But a single person could not do anything on behalf of Comrade Rohana Wijeweera.
Q: Did Wijeweera say anything while he was going down the staircase. Did he feel something was going to happen?
A: He was blindfolded. The spectacles were removed and put into his pocket. Comrade Wijeweera asked where he was being taken. Nobody answered. It was a dull silence.
Q: What was time then?
A: It was past 2.30 a.m. Everything was unbearably silent. Everybody knew Comrade Wijeweera was to be killed. Nobody could imagine what would happen. Before he was blindfolded, Ronnie Gunasinghe took Comrade Rohana’s hands and tried to read his palms from the torch light. Then Comrade Rohana asked if there were death signs. All gasped at it. Ronnie Gunasinghe said he was checking if there were marks of weapon training.
Two Pajero vehicles were brought and Comrade Wijeweera was taken away.
Q: Who else went in the vehicles?
A: Major Thoradeniya went in one vehicle. Ronnie Gunasinghe boarded the other one. As I remember, Major Udugampola also got into it. Major Muthalif and several randomly selected soldiers also got into the vehicles.
Q: Didn’t you go with them?
A: No. I thought our vehicle would go but it didn’t. I went inside looking for CO Dassanayaka. He was sitting alone in an upset mood. I said, “Sir, the other two vehicles left. Won’t we go?”
He said, “No. Let us go to the camp.”
I didn’t know what his duties were. But our CO was assigned to monitor the shooting and report. It was a serious responsibility. When Colonel Dassanayaka was walking out, he met General Cecil Waidyarathna. He thundered in English, “I gave you an order. I will kill you like a dog if you cannot carry out that order. Go now.”
He got into the car. I got in. He did not check what happened to Abeynayaka who came with us and drove off. At the colour lights of Thimbirigasyaya, he asked me where Wijeweera was taken. He had been at the discussion in an upset mood. I said, I did not know. I was asked to go back and inquire from Brigadier Jayasundara. When I went there General Cecil Waidyarathna was getting into his car muttering that trouble was over. I was afraid what would happen if he saw us again and ran back to our vehicle. I said that General was leaving.
Q: Where did you go then?
A: I was taken in and the vehicle was driven to a byroad to be kept hidden until the General left with the squad. After that we went back, got information and went to the cemetery.
Q: Did you go to the place where Wijeweera was shot and killed?
A: No. We went directly to the cemetery. When we went to the gas plant, Comrade Wijeweera had just been brought there after being shot at the Golf Course.
Q: Was it the crematorium
on the other side of
Devi Balika Girls’ School?
A: That’s right. Comrade Rohana was brought and placed on the cement floor.
Q: Did you go there and see.
A: Yes. There was some light. He was lying face up.

Q: His clothes?
A: Same shirt and trousers.
Q: Eyes?
A: Blindfolded.
Q: Did you see the wounds?
A: Yes. They had shot him on the chest. The shirt was soaked in blood.
Q: Was blood oozing?
A: Blood was flowing on the cement floor.
Q: Hands?
A: They were not tied. They were dropped sideways like in a normal dead body.
Q: Wasn’t the body moving?
A: No. The custodian of the crematorium was brought. He said, “I cannot do it like that. I am performing a duty here.” Major Thoradeniya kept the pistol to his head and ordered, “Give the key you dog. I’ll kill you otherwise.” He gave the key humbly. The way to burn the body was also learnt from him.
Q: Was Wijeweera’s body
taken in on something?
A: No. It was ordered to throw his body in. Two personnel took him and threw him in but he knocked on the wall and fell on the ground.
Q: Then?
A: He groaned loudly. All heard that painful groan. My heart burnt within. Everybody knew that Comrade Rohana Wijeweera was not dead. Somebody shouted, “You cannot do a job right.”
Q: Who shouted?
A: I did not see properly. I think it was Major Muthalif. He was swung in the second time and the gas switches were put on. We did not wait there for more than two minutes.
Q: Who actually shot
Rohana Wijeweera?
A: I was not there. I went to the cemetery. Therefore, I did not see. But, I visited the Ops Combine often then. I know the soldiers who joined the task. From them, I knew that an Army Major and a Superintendent of Police had shot him.
Q: Is it true that Wijeweera was tortured before killing?
A: Those savages took Comrade Wijeweera to the Golf Course. They had tortured him. A soldier who was there told me that they did not know he was Wijeweera. The story that he was put in a gunny bag was a lie.
Q: Were you informed that Wijeweera said something before death?
A: No. It happened in a short while. I thoroughly believe history will give a fair judgment for this crime

Ten years ago on this day Sri Lanka lost an illustrious son at the hands of terrorists. Lakshman Kadirgamar was his name. A statesman par excellence, legal luminary and, above all, patriot to the core, he adorned Sri Lankan politics and infused professionalism into an ailing foreign service in his capacity as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He helped repair the country’s badly dented image and win over the international community and, in the process, had himself placed high on the LTTE hit list.

Kadirgamar, or Kadir as he was fondly known to one and all, was a lodestar in Sri Lanka’s political firmament. It was a pleasure to see the great man stand up, draw himself up to his full height, tower above others and thrust and parry during parliamentary debates. The late Anura Bandaranaike, one of the finest debaters Sri Lanka has ever produced, once took him on. Well read, Anura quoted Erskine May, Bertrand Russell, Bernard Shaw et al. Kadir, rose to his feet, adjusted his jacket, ran his tongue over his lips and cracked his characteristic grin. There was pin-drop silence. He treated the House to a superb speech, which he ended with these words: ‘Mr. Bandaranaike, I am braving real bullets and bombs and don’t think I will run away fearing your popgun oratory!’ And, a few moons later, he was felled by an assassin’s bullet!

The LTTE was not the only enemy Kadir had; some of his ‘friends’ sought to destroy him politically as he refused to soften his stand on terrorism for expediency. He resisted an attempt by the Chandrika Kumaratunga government to share tsunami relief with the LTTE in 2005 and incurred the wrath of the proponents of that hare-brained scheme. Orders were given to the kept press to target him. This newspaper offered him covering fire.

He politely turned down our offer, saying he did not want to embarrass President  Kumaratunga. That was Kadir! A government-controlled Sunday paper had lined up a malicious piece to tarnish his image in August 2005. But, the LTTE took him before its publication.

Kadir, referring to himself at the unveiling of his portrait in the Macmillan Room at the Oxford Union a few months before his assassination, famously said Oxford was the icing on the cake which had been baked at home. It was a pity that the other ‘cakes’, poorly baked in the City of Lights and other capitals with ‘Sri Lankan icing’ on them sought to destroy him politically out of sheer jealousy. He was unfazed. He knew the people loved him!

In 2004, Kadir revealed, with the help of a navy intelligence dossier, that the LTTE was moving its heavy guns to areas south of Trincomalee. He pointed out that the LTTE was making use of the CFA it had signed with the UNP-led UNF government to make preparations for laying siege to the Trincomalee Harbour and the Palali airstrip simultaneously and paralysing them with artillery fire so as to cut supplies to the North and trap tens of thousands of soldiers in the peninsula. Prabhakaran effectively used his heavy guns following the resumption of hostilities under the Mahinda Rajapaksa government and shells landed on the Trinco harbour and the Palaly camp. Angered by our report on Kadir’s revelation the UNF government threatened to withdraw his special security in a bid to frighten him into submission. Kadir was made of sterner stuff! He did not give in. Sanity prevailed and the government changed its mind. It was sacked a few months later mainly on the basis of that intelligence report.

Kadir knew that talking peace with the LTTE was an exercise in futility. He insisted that the outfit be neutralised militarily for a solution to be found. Prabhakaran plunged the country into war about one year after Kadir’s assassination and the rest is history.

Today, there are no terrorist attacks. Children go to school without fear of being abducted and turned into cannon fodder. People of the North and the East are free to live, work and vote. The politicians who dared not open their mouths even for tooth extractions while Prabhakaran was around and shamelessly grovelled before him are today fighting for democracy! Kadir must be smiling––somewhere.

If you make a mistake in giving your vote on the 17 August, Sri Lanka is doomed to be divided, loose its freedom and peace, dominated by the Western powers, destroying our unique features of a very civilised culture.

If you are fooled by a few relief measures, a salary increase or low price of petrol , and want  insecurity, fear and an uncertain future, communal  disunity, and bad features of a western dominance

 Then the symbol you should vote for is the Elephant.

 If you make an intelligent decision unswayed  by those wearing coats, ties and English trousers, hiding their pocket size Bibles, want a united Sri Lanka, assured of  security, free and peaceful, developed and progressive.

 The symbol you should vote for  is the betel leaf.

 It is a parliamentary election, but the  interest is around two contenders for the office of Prime Minister. One is Ranil Wickramasinghe caretaker Prime Minister and the second Mahinda Rajapakse the former President of Sri Lanka.

The former RanilW,  had been in the opposition for more than 20 years and done absolutely nothing for the good or the welfare of the country. He never made any constructive criticism other than throwing mud and discrediting  the President MahindaR and his government. He was rejected by the people 29 times.

RanilW had however been  given the opportunity by a grateful President Sirisena who thinks he is President of Sri Lanka today thanks to Ranil Wicramasinghe,  to be the PM. Sirisena grateful to Ranil but ungrateful to his former boss MR,  made  Ranil W the Prime Minister the same day he became the President.

RanilW  formed a UNP government for 100 days after the people had elected Maithripala Sirisena for a change-Wenasa. Ranil and his UNP Government  stayed on for 180 days.  It is this 180 days that is being taken into account by some  to admit RanilW has done some good and others to blame him for what happened to Sri Lanka within those 180 days.

Three wheelers say he is good because  they got  petrol at a lesser price.  They cannot think much and do not seem to know the price of petrol had fallen in the world market and therefore it is easy for the RW’s government to give them petrol at a lower price.

Some like teachers think that RW’s government has increased their basic salary by Rs.10,000,00,  in reality it is only an allowance not an increase of the basic salary.  They also give credit  for RW’s government for reducing the prices of  basic commodities.  But now they do not say much about it as the prices have again increased.

Some are happy that RW’s Government has no rogues and are making all attempts to accuse  the Former President; his family and every body connected to the previous government for theft of all sorts and taking bribes and commission on development projects. RW with his experience in Batalanda appointed a police force under him FCID, to investigate thefts committed by the Former President, his family and all connected to him politically or otherwise. Ranil W has made Sri Lanka a Police State since 9^th January,2015.

RanilW has his own Chief Justice, Judges and Lawyers to judge, those accused  and have them arrested and put  immediately  in  remand Jail, even if the accusations are so flimsy that there do not seem to have an iota of evidence against those put in remand. It is a mockery of Justice, but the RW is in power with his UNP Cabinet of very vociferous  Ministers who know nothing of what they have to do but full of belligerence towards every thing the Previous government has done.

RW and his cabinet were not interested in doing any work for the country within the 100 days government but  they were all out looking for thieves and thefts,  there was also JVP  handing over files to the Bribery Commission, all against previous government of  the former President Mahinda Rajapakse.  They stopped large numbers of on going  major development project started by Mahinda Rajapakse making thousands of persons working in those project unemployed.

But todate  Ranil and his investigators have not found any  evidence whatever to tarnish the good name of the previous President Mahinda R., his family or those who were connected to him and investigated for bribery and corruption.  RanilW after his experience in Batalanda has no respect for people or lives.  Otherwise he will not allow persons suspected by his police force to be detained  indefinitely in  Remand.

RanilW  who pays lot of lip service to Good Governance appointed Ravi Karunanayake as his Finance Minister for whom a case was pending in court for money laundering..

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, quoted earlier in this article, faces court charges for alleged money laundering a few years ago, violating Sri Lanka’s Central bank regulations and the Exchange Control Act. He is accused of facilitating the transfer of Rs.390 million (USD 3 million) to Sri Lanka by Raj Rajaratnam, the infamous Tamil Sri Lankan American, billionaire and founder of Galleon Group hedge fund. Rajaratnam, who was “convicted of conspiracy and securities fraud in one of the biggest insider-trading cases in the history of Wall Street” is currently serving an eleven year prison sentence in the U.S.A. A report by David Rose entitled “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Raj” published in Vanity Fair in 2011 revealed that Rajaratnam had links to the LTTE and provided funds to the terrorist organization.  (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/asoka-bandarage/good-governance-in-sri-lanka_b_7087768.html )

The case ended in very mysterious circumstances with the Judge, retiring and going abroad immediately after the case.

In the mean time RanilW’s government engaged in finding thieves in the previous Rajapakse regime were themselves preparing for the biggest theft of the century.

Sri Lanka does not have a shortage of qualified, experienced individuals with exemplary records who can fill important positions. However, individuals facing charges of serious financial and legal irregularities have been appointed to some of the highest offices by Prime Minister Wickramasinghe. These appointments and subsequent outcomes have raised public concern over good governance and anti-corruption.”

RW  likes to work with foreigners and does not look for efficient men in Sri Lanka. RanilW appointed a foreigner Arjun Mahendran,  a Tamil Christian  a citizen of Singapore as  the Governor of the Central Bank, whose antecedents are not very clear ,being a friend of  Raja Rajaratnam a  billionaire crook who financed the terrorists and now in American Jail.

Even more serious charges of legal and financial irregularity are involved in the appointment of Arjuna Mahendran as Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Mahendran a Sri Lankan born Tamil and a citizen of Singapore, was given Sri Lankan permanent residency within 24 hours of his appointment, a privilege not available to many others awaiting Sri Lankan residency and dual citizenship. Mahendran is also a close friend of Raj Rajaratnam. Indeed, many Sri Lankans are asking if Wickramasinghe’s nomination of his friend Mahendran as the Governor of the Central Bank represents good governance or cronyism?”

All governments everywhere must be held accountable to the same principles of good governance.  Karunanayake and Governor of Sri Lanka’s Central Bank, Mahendra 

 Ranil W appointed a Committee to investigate into the Bond affair and according to its finding exonerated the Governor of the Central Bank. The Ground View  states with regard to the committee appointed by RanilW,

 However, we noted that the three members appointed, who have legal backgrounds, did not have any known formal technical qualifications, professional experience or competencies in economics, banking, finance or central banking to make the inquiry that was needed. Moreover, we, as well as others, questioned the credibility of a committee that consisted of individuals who at one time or another were closely associated with the ruling United National Party.”

This is about the first contender for the office of Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe , about whom the people have to decide whether he is suitable to be a Prime Minister of Sri Lanka or not on the 17 August,2015.

Within 180 days Ranil Wickramasinghe has not only utterly failed to conduct the affairs of the country well, but has also allowed the worst bank bond theft of the century . He has failed to dismiss the fraudster, making his culpability in the affair more evident.  He is on the above evidence against him not suitable to be the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

 Now the Second contender to the office of  Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse .  It is impossible to speak  of a unitary Sri Lanka without the fear of a resurgence of terrorism without speaking of Mahinda Rajapakse.  He gave to Sri Lanka and to all its people no one else since the independence of Sri Lanka had even dreamt of giving.

Mahinda Rajapakse blew a breath of life to a people living in fear of death from bombs and being hacked to death with the heads of children smashed on trees.

It is that past under terrorism that Mahinda Rajapakse eliminated that has now given Ranil, Chandrika and all their cohorts the freedom to speak without fear to even accuse the Mahinda Rajapakse their saviour as well.

Chandrika  Kumaratunga dare say yesterday at a meeting that Mahinda Rajapakse  cannot take credit for himself for the elimination of terrorism, as Chandrika and the UNP too contributed to it.  People have not forgotten the past Chandrik seems to have forgotten. It was Chandrika having had no idea what to do with terrorism offered Prabhakaran the North for ten years to rule it as he wants without any election.  Ranil of UNP said that Toppigala is a rock and that there were no terrorists.

Neither Chandrika nor Ranil did any thing by way of eliminating terrorism in Sri Lanka.  They only contributed to make it worse one with her famous P-Tom and the other with his CFA. Sarath Fonseka was there before Mahinda Rajapakse engaged in the war with the terrorists, but he could not eliminate terrorism all that time, until Mahinda Rajapakse came into the scene as the President of Sri Lanka in 2005.

The elimination of terrorism and ending the thirty years of terrorism is itself reason enough to bring back Mahinda Rajapakse as the Prime Minister , to complete the work he had commenced in 2005, by his cutting short the period of his executive Presidency  to go for a Presidential Election on the 8^th January,2015.

Mahinda Rajapakse since his election as the President had so much to do that no one, beginning from JR Jayawardhana , R.Premadasa, Chandrika Kumaratunga and Ranil Wicrmasinghe had ever thought of doing. Even if  they had thought what to do they did not know how to do, and did not know how well to do what they begin to do.

Mahinda Rajapakse when he became the President he knew what he had to do .  It was first to eliminate terrorism, what ever Chandrika, Ranil or even TNA say now , Mahinda Rajapakse  was determined to complete what he was beginning to do- the elimination of terrorism what ever be the difficulties he would have to face.

The world’s greatest violator of Human Rights USA and its followers, UK, and the rest of the Western world were ready to pounce upon Mahinda Rajapakse to thwart his determination,  to protect the Sri Lanka terrorist who were not a threat to them. Mahind Rajapakse’s determination  and his political leadership were greater than the collective western threat.

Whoever now comes to claim credit for the elimination of terrorists, knows beyond any doubt  that the elimination of terrorism  was the determined effort of Mahinda Rajapakse.  That alone is  reason  why Mahinda Rajapakse  should remain  the leader of Sri Lanka as long as he lives , and after that build lasting monuments to remember his greatness, in our hearts and hearts of generations of grateful Sri Lankans.

He did not stop at elimination of terrorists, he built the country faster, and better than any political leader before him. He built roads, massive bridges, built power houses with electrical generators, laid pipeline for water, he built Hotels, Hospitals, schools, harbours, airports, laid railway lines, brought IT to villages, built boat building yards, established industrial zones, high security zones, and modernised Sri Lanka every way in a very short period of time i.e from 2009 to 2014.

Ranil Wickramasinghe and UNP may also say that they also have mega projects to their credit.  Yes of course under D .S.Senanayake there was the Yoda Ela project and settlements for Sinhala villages, There was the Laksapana Dam and power houses, Mahaveli project was the work of Gamini Dissanayake. Or even R.Premadasa’s Gam Udawa and heritage projects.

But that was the UNP’s past. Even  R.Premadasa’s  few progressive projects were marred by his later acts of cruelty against the JVP uprising where Ranil Wickramasinghe took a prominent role in setting up torture camps in Batalanda, Matale etc.

UNP under Ranil Wickramasinghe has done nothing progressive , except setting up a police State with a FCID directly under himWickramasinghe, Chandrika, Rajitha Senaratne, Mangala Samaraweera, Ravi Karunanayake, Kabir Hachim, Laksman Kiriella, Ajith Perera,  Harin Fernando,  cannot contribute to Sri Lanka  any thing constructive  or memorable like those great projects of Mahinda Rajapakse that pushed Sri Lanka to modernity and to be a middle income state..

Temple Trees under Mahinda Rajapakse  was a place from where pervaded cool winds carrying sounds of the sublime  teachings of the Compassionate Buddha, as it should be from the highest abode of the land where a Sinhala Buddhist leader stretches his rule  through out the country without discrimination against other races or religions.

 But today from Temple Trees under Ranil Wickramasinghe  pervades  fires of jealousy, hatred, anger, revenge as it was from the abode of Kalinga Magah the cruel invader who set up his kingdom in Rajarata.

 Those who are opposed to Mahinda Rajapakse ask why he failed to do what he now proposes in his election manifesto.  It was because he failed to continue his full period of office of President, and called for an election on the 8^th January, 2015.

We know Mahinda Rajapakse is a man with a determination to do what many thinks is impossible, and unfortunately the Sinhala Buddhists failed to unite to vote to bring him back as the President on the 8^th January.

We can trust Mahinda Rajapakse to rebuild Sri Lanka  which had been devated in 180 days by Ranil Wickramasinghe and his hostile Cabinet of UNP Ministers, and give the people the reliefs he promises to give in his Election  Manifesto.

Mahinda Rajapakse raised the standard of living of the people ever since he was elected President in 2005.  That was also reason for the high cost of living, which only Mahinda Rajapakse wil be able to bring down by a real people friendly Budget.  He had done what he had promised before and surely will do what he promises to give the people when he is back as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka on the 18 August,2015.

Please vote without hesitation to Mahinda Rajapakse and all those who contest under the Betel Leaf.

August 17, 2015 will be a turning point in Lankan history. It will either make or break the nation and its economy. This time voters, not soldiers will have to do their work. Although much downplayed, the May 2009 war victory saved 31,250 lives so far at the rate of 417 lives per month. Nanthikadal Victory also saved more than 60,000 war related injuries for the 75 months so far. It also saved billions of rupees in averting calamities. These are by no means small numbers and should not be taken for granted. The danger is a UNP government under its present leadership will drag the nation back to terrorism. Here is how a UNP government will destroy peace and the economy.

Replacing China with IMF

IMF was the preferred lender to all UNP governments. The UNP regime has already discarded China and is keen to remarry the IMF. Everywhere IMF went it left a trail of death and destruction. For IMF to help a nation, the nation has to surrender all its good industries to the IMF. It doesn’t take a long term partnership view. Instead, it always looks to profit at the expense of the borrower. IMF also imposes political conditions for help. These include cutting government jobs in hundreds of thousands, increasing food prices and charging additional taxes. Under a future government, at least 75,000 government jobs will be either lost or suffer an actual reduction in salary after public sector restructure plans already in the UNP pipeline.

CEPA with India Makes Most People Unemployed

Due to intense pressure from India, UNP has already decided to sign the CEPA (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) agreement with India, which Mahinda refused to sign in 2010. Under CEPA, Indian workers will be able to get jobs currently held by Sri Lankans in both government and private sectors. Small businesses will also be taken over by Indians. Locals will be without jobs and business. Interestingly, even traditional UNP supporters will suffer as their businesses will be rivalled and eventually taken over by Indians.

A large influx of Indians will be residing in Sri Lanka who will eventually settle down in Sri Lanka, which is way ahead of India in per capita income, quality of life and human development index. These new arrivals will be able to manipulate political parties in Sri Lanka as new kingmakers. No other country in the world, except South Korea, has signed a comprehensive economic partnership agreement with India. However, thanks to South Korea’s (a developed country) high bargaining power, it managed to keep India at bay. Sri Lanka will be unable to do so.

A Bridge to India

In 2002, then Prime Minister Ranil proposed a bridge to India. Now he has revived it with South Indian politicians agreeing with him. If the UNP wins, the bridge will become a reality within a decade. A large influx of South Indians will come to Sri Lanka changing the ethnic composition. Water, food, transport, education and healthcare systems will be destroyed by this massive influx of Indians to the small island. These systems are already in stress.

In 2014, India officially stopped the Sethusamudram project to allow for the possibility of a bridge across the strait. There is the real danger of it becoming a reality over shallow waters in the Mannar basin.

Impending Dictatorship

All democratic countries recognise the right of the people and their elected representatives to elect and dissolve governments. However, according to the 19A passed without showing it to the people, the next government is guaranteed a minimum life span of 4 and a half years! It means no matter how harsh, cruel and dictatorial the oncoming government is people will be unable to replace it. This is a scary thought, which hints at UNP’s plans for extremely harsh measures, particularly economic measures, against the people. Voters have six (6) days to make up their mind to avoid this calamity ahead. Mahinda on the other hand skilfully avoided economic meltdown in 2006 and thereafter by turning to alternative lenders without compromising people’s interests.

Ranil’s Unimaginable Greed for Power

Ranil holds the world record for the longest standing Opposition Leader. There has never been a party leader in the world that wasted 22 years unable to get to the top post of the country except Ranil. He lost two presidential elections, four parliamentary elections and an innumerable number of other elections. Nevertheless, he still hangs on to power and wants more power. Mahinda on the other hand was party leader for just 8 years despite being the president for 10 years and prime minister for 2 years.

In order to retain his power, he went to extreme lengths like Batalanda (1989) where thousands of civilian political supporters of the SLFP and Sri Lanka Mahajana Party lost their lives.

Ranil was Prime Minister twice before and both occasions were disasters! People removed him from power within 15 months in the first instance and 28 months in the second instance. What is more interesting is on both occasions, UNP was routed very badly at elections showing how unpopular his governments generally are. This time he is coming with a constitutional safeguard of his government that prevents people from taking action against him for 4 and a half years. Coupling Ranil with this dictatorship provision creates a very bad despotic mixture.

Lives of Army Personnel and Peace at Risk

UNHRC report on war crimes in due at its interim session in September. It has already hinted 41 security forces offices are framed by the report. UNP government bigwigs have made it clear they will not prevent the capture and deportation of them. Such an act will lead to island wide unrest, violence and riots. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers who worked under them are also at risk as investigations will drag them into war crimes. They too will be captured and deported. It is a wrong move the UNP is trying. No country hands over its justices to the UNHRC! In other countries, these matters are handled domestically. Emboldened by the move, radical elements in the north will launch attacks on persons of different ethnicities plunging the north back to war. Relatives, well-wishers and patriotic Sri Lankans will be utterly frustrated by the betrayal. The country will be ungovernable. Sri Lanka’s external friends that protected Lankan war heroes will be let down causing an international embarrassment to Sri Lanka and losing its all weather friends.

Until its leadership changes, a vote for UNP is a vote for disaster.

1815 දි සුද්දාට රට සින්නක්කරයට ලියාදිමෙන් පසුවද අපි දෙවතාවක් ‘හරාකිරි’ වීමට උත්සාහ කල අතර අවසාන වරට පසුගිය ජනවාරි අටවන දා සිහිකල හැක. මීට ඉහතදී 2002 වසරේදි රනිල් වික්‍රමසිංහව අගමැතිකොට ‘සටන් විරාම ගිවිසුමක්’ ත්‍රස්තවාදින් සමග අත්සන් කිරීමට ඉඞදී කරගත්තේද හරාකිරිය. එමගින් රටේ භූමියෙන් තුනෙන් එකකුත් මුහුදු තීරයෙන් තුනෙන් දෙකකුත් ත්‍රස්තවාදි පාලනයකට නතුකොට ත්‍රස්තවාදින්ට අයබදු අයකරගැනීමටත් ත්‍රස්ත පොලිසි හා උසාවි පිහිටුවා වෙනම පරිපාලනයකට මගපෑදිමකුත් සිදුවිය. තිස්දහසකට ආසන්න රණවිරැ ජීවිත පූජාවද එම හරාකිරියේම ප්‍රතිපලයකි. රනිල් අගමැතිවූ හැම වරකම රටද අහවර වන්නේ බෙදුමේවාදින්ට රට පාවාදීමෙනි. මෙය ජන්මාන්තර පුරැද්දක්දැයි කෙනෙකුට සිතෙනා තරමටම ප්‍රකටය.

කෙසේ හෝ ජාතියේ පිනට පහලවූ මහින්ද රාජපක්‍ෂයන් බටහිරින් පැමිනි සියඵ තර්ජන ගර්ජනා හමුවේ නොසැලී සිට ලේ පිපාසිත ත්‍රස්තවාදය  සහමුලින්ම පරාජය කොට මේ හෙල දෙරණින් තුරන්කර දැමුවේ ඔහුගේ ජීවිතයට බටහිරින් හා ත්‍රස්තයන්ගෙන් පැමිනුන අනතුරැද නොතකාය. බටහිර අධිකරණයකට කොටුකර ඔහුව නැතිකිරීමේ කර්තව්‍යය තවමත් එලෙසින්ම දේශීයව හා විදේශීයව සිදුවේ. ලිබියාවේ ගඞාෆිට උසාවියක් හෝ දකින්නට වරමක් නොවීය. ඒ රටේ ඇතිවූ ‘යහපාලන’ය ඔහුව ඝාතණය කරනුලැබුවේ මහපාරේය. එවැනි වාතාවරණයක අපි සැමට ජීවිතදාණය දුන් මේ උදාර මිනිසාව අපි බලයෙන් පහකොට ඔහුව නිකම්ම නිකම් මිනිසෙක් බවට පත්කර ජාත්‍යන්තරයට ඔහුව කුදලාගෙන ගොස් මරාදැමීමට අවශ්‍ය පසුබිම පසුගිය ජනවාරි අටවනදා  සලසා දුනිමු. අපගේ ජිවිත වලට නැවත වටිනාකමක් ලබාදුන්නේ  මේ අපූරැ මිනිසාය. ඊට අමතරව ඔහු ශ්‍රී ලංකාව නැවත මුඵ ලෝකයේම අභිමානයට ලක්වන පරිදි කල හැකි සෑම දෙයක්ම කල ජන නායකයෙකි. සංවර්ධනය වන රටක් ලෙස තිබූ ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සංවර්ධිත රටක තත්වයකට උසස් වෙමින් තිබිනි. සෑම ජාත්‍යන්තර දර්ශකයකම ශ්‍රී ලංකාව ඉහලට ගමන් කරමින් තිබිනි. රටේ දස දිසාවේම සංවර්ධන ව්‍යාපෘතින් ක්‍රියාත්මක වෙමින් රට එකම කඞිගුලක්සේ ජවසම්පන්න වී තිබූ සමයක අපි දෙවන ‘හරාකිරිය’ කරගතිමු.

සයිබර් බණ ඇසූ අපි අපේ සදාදරණීය නායකයා එක රැයකින් ගෙදර යැවීමට තරම් ‘කෘතඥ’ වුයෙමු. ඔහු නිසා ජීවිතය රැකගත් අපි, අනතුරේ ඇති ඔහුගේ ජීවිතය තුටටුවකටවත් මායිමේ කලේ නැත. දැන් අප නිදහස්ය. දැන් තැන තැන බෝම්බ පුපුරන්නේද නැත. මල සිරැරැවල කෑලි ඇහිදිමින් මිහිදන් කලා කිසිවෙකුටත් මතක නැත. රණවිරැන්ටත් රටටත් නායකත්වය දුන් මේ අපූරැ මිනිසා කුදලාගෙන ගොස් ජාත්‍යන්තර අධිකරණයට පමුනුවා මරණ දන්ඞණයට යටත්කලාට කමක් නැති ගානය. එම දණ්ඞණයට එරෙහිව ඔහුට තිබූ එකම ආවරණය එක රැයකින් ගලවාදැමු අපි බලා සිටින්නේ යහපාලකයින් ඔහුව ජාත්‍යන්තරයට කුදලා බාරදෙන තෙක්ද?

අපි සියඵ දෙනාටම එදා ජනවාරි අටවනදා වැරදුනා. මෙ වරද නිවැරදි කරගත යුතුයි නැතිනම් අපි තෙවන වරටත් ‘හරාකිරි’ කරගන්නවා පමනක් නොව නායකයෙක් නැති නිහීන ජාතියක් වී බටහිරින් හැලෙන යමක් ඇහිද ජිවත්වන නිවටුන් බවට පත්වේවි. අපි සිටිය යුත්තේ බටහිර හා සමසමවය. අප සතුව ඇති දැනුම් සම්භාරයත් බුදධියත් වෙනත් කිසිම ජාතියකට නැත. අපේ මුතුන් මිත්තන් මේවා අපට ඉතුරැකර තැබුවේ එමගින් ලෝකයේ ඉන්නා උසස්ම ජාතිය වී නිර්මලවු බුදුදහම රැකගැනීමටයි.

රටකට ජනතාව, සංස්කෘතියක්  මෙන්ම ජනතාවට ආදරයකරන නායකයෙක්ද අවශ්‍යය.. යහපාලකයින් රකිනා රටක් නැත. ඔවුන් මේ රට කාගේදැයිවත් නොදනී. ‘මේ රට සිංහලයින්ගේ යැයි ලියා ඇත්තේ කොහේද’ යනුවෙන් ඔලොක්කු කරන්නේත්, මේ රට කාගේදැයි කියා ඔවුන් නොදන්නා බව ප්‍රසිද්ධියේම ප්‍රකාශ කරන්නේත් සිංහලයාට මේ රටතුල ඇති අයිතිය හා හිමිතැන නැතිකරන චේතනාවෙන් බව අප තේරැම් ගත යුතුව ඇත.

යහපාලනය සමඟ අපේ ජීවය බඳුවූ මේ රට ගමන් කරනා දිසාව දැන් පැහැදිලිය. මේ ව්‍යාසනයෙන් මිදෙන එකම මාර්ගය ලබන මැතිවරණය හරහා අපට ලැබී ඇත. එදිනට මහින්ද  ‘කල රට’ ලැබූ සංවර්ධනයත්, ඔහුගේ හැකියාවත්, අද යහපාලනයේ නොහැකියාවත්  තේරැම් ගැනීමට තරම් අප බුද්ධිමත් වෙමු.

රටට ආදරය කරන අපගේ තිරණය ඉතාමත් සරලය. එය නොයෙකුත් නිර්ණායක මත පදනම්වී සංකීර්ණ කරගත යුතු නැත.  2009 වසරේ මැයිමස දහනමවනදා සිට අද වනතුරැ අප නිදහසේ සුලඟ පහස ලබනේනේ මහින්ද රාජපක්‍ෂයන් තම දිවි නොතකා ගත් ඒ අභීත තිරණය නිසයි. එදිනට පසුවද අප රට ලෝකයේ අනෙකුත් රටවල් සමග ජයමාවතක ඉදිරියටම ගියාමිස රට හෝ ජාතිය අපහසුතාවයකට පත්වන කිසිවක් මහින්ද සමයේ සිදුනොවීය.  පසුගිය මාස හතතුල එම ගමන තරමක් අඞාල වූවත් නැවත එදෙසට අපට පියවර මැනීමට හැකිය. ඒ සඳහා අවශ්‍යවන්නේ ඔබගේ  සරල කැමැත්ත පමනි.

පසුගිය ජනවාරි අටවනදා ජනතා තීරණයට හිස නමා ඉතාමත් නිහතමානි ලෙස රටේ නායකත්වයෙන් සමුගත්` මහින්දගේ මුවින් සෑමවිටම පිටවූයේ සෙෳම්‍යය මුදු මොලොක් වදන්මය. ඔහු කිසිවිටෙක කිසිවෙක් අපහසුතාවයට පත්කලේ නැත. අවශ්‍ය සෑමතැනකම අභීතව නැගීසිටි මහින්ද රටත් ජාතියත් රැකගත්තේ ඔහුගේම පන මෙනි.

බුලත් කොලයටත් මහින්දට හිතවත් අපේක්‍ෂයයින්ටත් පමනක් ලැබෙනා ඡන්දය  දල්වන එක් පහනක් නම් ලබන සඳුදින අපි පහන් අසූ ලක්‍ෂයක් දල්වා දැනට ඝනඅන්ධකාරයේ ගිලී ඇති අප රට එළිය කිරීමට ඇප කැපවෙමු.

එතෙක් මෙතෙක් කිසිම ජන නායකයෙක් නොලැබු ආසන සංඛ්‍යවකින් මහින්දයන් ප්‍රමුඛ එ නි ජ සංධානය දිනවා නැවත ජය මඟකට අප ලක් මෑණියන්ව රැගෙන යමු.

වංශපුර දේවගේ ජානක

වයස අවුරුදු විස්ස තිහ පමණ වෙන තරුණ තරුණියන් වයස මත පදනම්ව අවශ්‍ය නම් අළුත් පරපුරක් ලෙස වෙන් කල හැකිය. මේ ඊනියා අළුත් පරපුරට ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ සහ එක්සත් ජාතික පක්‍ෂය විසින් අසූවේ දශකයේ මෙරට ඇතිකල භීශණය පිළිබඳව පුද්ගලික අත්දැකීමක් නැත. ඔවුන්ට කොටි ත්‍රස්තවාදය විසින් ඇති කල භීශණය පිළිබඳ යම් අත්දැකීමක් තිබුනද එය වර්ධනය වූ ආකාරය පිළිබඳවද පුද්ගලික අත්දැකීමක් නැත. නමුත් මේ කිසිවක් ඔවුන්ගේ වරද නොවේ.

තනි පුද්ගලයින්ට නැතිවනුද ජාතියකට මතකයක් ඇත. පොදුවේ ගත්විට මෑත ඉතිහාසයේ ඉහත කී අත්දැකීම් පමණක් නොව ජාතියක් වශයෙන් අත්විඳි දෙදහස් වසරක දේශපාලන අත්දැකීම් සිංහල ජාතිය සතුව තිබේ. ජාතියේ මතකය නොමැරී පවතින්නේ එය පරම්පරාවෙන් පරම්පරාවට ගලායාම තුලය. නමුත් අද විජාතික බලවේග ඊනියා අළුත් පරපුරෙන් ඒ මතකය ඉවත් කිරීම සඳහා කටයුතු කරමින් සිටියි. එහි කාර්යය ජාතියේ ඓතිහාසික දේශපාලන මතකය අවැදගත් ලෙස සැලකීමට අළුත් පරපුරට ඉගැන්වීමය. එය එක් ආකාරයට කුඩු ගැහීමට පුරුදු කිරීමක් වැනිය. කුඩු ගැසූවා මෙන් රඟපාන තරුණයින් මැතිවරණ ප්‍රචාරක දැන්වීම් සඳහා යොදා ගැනීමෙන් පිළිබිඹු කෙරෙන්නේ එය විය හැකියි.

කොටි භීශණය තිස් වසරක් තිස්සේ පැවතුනද විජාතික බලවේග වැදගත් කොට සලකන්නේ ත්‍රස්තවාදයට එරෙහි මානූශීය මෙහෙයුමේ අවසාන සති දෙකෙහි සිදුවීම් පමණය. ඉතිරි කොටස අමතක කරති. එසේ අමතක කරන්නේ අතීතය අත්හල විට අවසන් සති දෙක ඔවුන්ට වාසිදායක ලෙස යොදාගත හැකි නිසාය. එපරිදිම ඊනියා අළුත් පරපුරේ මතකයද විජාතික බලවේග විසින් අතුගා දමන්නට ක්‍රියා කරන්නේත් අළුත් පරපුරේ දේශපාලන විභවය විජාතික බලවේග වලට අවශ්‍ය පරිදි හසුරුවා ගැනීම සඳහාය.

පැහැදිලිවම මේ මොළ සේදීමේ මෙහෙයුමේ කෙටි අරමුණ එන මැතිවරණයෙන් රනිල් වික්‍රමසිංහ දිනවීමය. ඒ හරහා රනිල් වික්‍රමසිංහ යනු කවුද? රනිල් වික්‍රමසිංහ සහ ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ මෑත ඉතිහාසයේ මෙරටට කර ඇත්තේ කුමක්ද? ඔවුන්ට කල හැක්කේ කුමක්ද? වැනි ප්‍රශ්ණ ඇසීම වැලකෙයි. නමුත් මොළ සේදීමේ මෙහෙයුම එතැනින් නිම නොවේ.

සෞභාග්‍යමත් නිවහල් රටක් ගොඩනැඟිය හැක්කේ දේශපාලනමය වශයෙන් ස්ථාවර රාජ්‍යයකය. ස්ථාවර රාජ්‍යයක පදනම ආණ්ඩු වෙනස් වෙද්දීත් රාජ්‍යයේ දේශපාලන ගමන වෙනස් වෙමින් නමුත් කඩ නොවී ගලායාමය. ගලායාම දෙවිදිහකට අත්කරගත හැකිය. පළමු විදිහ නම් රටේ සාමාන්‍ය ජනතාව තමන්ගේ අතීත අත්දැකීම් පදනම් කරගෙන රටේ අනාගතය පිළිබඳව දේශපාලන තීරණ ගැනීමය. එවිට අතීතයත් අනාගතයත් අතර යම් ගලායාමක් ස්ථාපිත වේ. දෙවෙන ආකාරය රටේ වැදගත් ආයතන තුල (විදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්‍යාංශය, ආරක්‍ෂක අමාත්‍යාංශය, රජයේ ඔත්තු සේවාව, වෙනත් ආර්ථික වශයෙන් වැදගත් ආයතන) ප්‍රතිපත්තිමය වශයෙන් ස්ථාවර භාවයක් ඇති කිරීමය. එවිට ඒ ආයතන වලට කුමණ රජයක් යටතේ වුවද කෙටි කාලීන හැල හැප්පීම් වලට ඔරොත්තු දීමට හැකියාවක් ලැබෙනු ඇත. රාජ්‍යයක දේශපාලන ගමන ස්ථාවර කල හැක්කේ එහි ගලායාම පහල මට්ටමේත් ඉහල මට්ටමේත් මෙලෙස පවත්වාගැනීම තුලය.

නමුත් ඇමෙරිකාවට මෙන් අපට දේශපාලණික වශයෙන් ශක්තිමත් රාජ්‍ය ආයතන නොමැත. ඉංග්‍රීසීහු අපට තිබූ ආයතන මෙන්ම අපේ දේශපාලන ක්‍රමයද ආර්ථික රටාවද බිඳ හෙලූහ. ඉන් පසු ඒ ගොඩනඟා ගැනීමට තවමත් අපට හැකිවී නැත. අපට ඇති එකම ශක්තිය මෙරට සාමාන්‍ය සිංහල මිනිස්සු තමන්ගේ ඓතිහාසික දේශපාලන මතකය මත පිහිටමින් අනාගතය පිළිබඳව තීරණ ගැනීම පමණි. අද විජාතික බලවේග විසින් අළුත් පරපුර යොදවාගෙන කරන්නට උත්සාහ කරන්නේ ඒ ක්‍රියාදාමය බිඳ දැමීමටය. එහිදී මෙරට තරුණයින් ඊනියා අළුත් පරපුරක් යැයි වෙන් කර හඳුන්වාගෙන ඔවුන්ට මෙරට සංස්කෘතියට එරෙහි වන්නට උපදෙස් දෙයි. දැහමෙන් සෙමෙන් කෙරෙන පාලනය වෙනුවට ඊනියා යහපාලනයක් ගැන කියා දෙයි. යුතුකම් වෙනුවට අයිතීන් ගැන ඔවුන්ට කියා දෙයි. තමාට පෙර රට වෙනුවට රටට පෙර තමා වැදගත් යැයි කියා දෙයි. ඒ සියල්ලෙන්ම සිදු කෙරෙන්නේ මෙරට තරුණ පරපුර නොමඟ යවා සිංහලුන්ගේ දේශපාලන ගමන නැවතීමය.

2009 දී බරක් ඔබාමා ඇමෙරිකා එක්සත් ජනපදයේ ජනාධිපති ධූරයට පත්වූයේ මෙවැනිම අළුත් පරපුරක් විසින් නිර්මාණය කරන ලද යුධ විරෝධී රැල්ලක් මතිනි. (රනිල් වික්‍රමසිංහට ඔබාමා රජයෙන් මැතිවරණ උපදෙස් ලැබෙන්නේද මේ අත්දැකීම මත විය යුතුය). නමුත් අවසානයේ බරක් ඔබාමාගේ රජය බුෂ් රජයටත් වඩා යුධකාමී විය. ඒ බවට එරට ප්‍රධාන රාජ්‍ය ආයතන වග බලා ගත්තේය. ඇමෙරිකා එක්සත් ජනපදය පැත්තෙන් සැලකුවිට ඔබාමාගේ අළුත් පරපුර විසින් දැරූ වැරදි දේශපාලන ආකල්ප එරට රාජ්‍ය ආයතන මඟින් නිවැරදි කර ඇමෙරිකානු රාජ්‍යයේ ගලායාම ස්ථාපිත කරන ලදී.

නමුත් අපේ රාජ්‍යය ප්‍රබල නොවේ. අපට ඇමෙරිකාවට මෙන් බලවත් නොසැලෙන රාජ්‍ය ආයතන නැත. ඒ නිසා අපේ අළුත් පරපුර විසින් ගනු ලබන වැරදි තීරණ නිවැරදි කල හැක්කේ අපටමය. එලඹෙන මැතිවරණයේදී මෙරට සිංහලුන් තමන්ගේ ඓතිහාසික වගකීම ඉටු කරමින් රට නැවතත් නිවැරදි මඟට ගනු ඇත.

History has been taken out from our school curriculum in 1972. So you can’t blame Justice Minister who is a young man uttering that Sri Lanka is not a Sinhala country. Let him learn.

Now  Let us go deep into the pre-history for the sake of those who are ignorant of the true history of our  Sinhala country. The term SINHALA exists from about 1200 B.C. Historical wise I first came across it in the second book of MAHABARATHA.(translated by Van Beutenen) where there was a poem which depicts a SINHALA deputation gone from our country to participate in the Royal Consecration,(Rajassuya) of the king  Udisthra carrying a load of  gifts  such as pearls, conches sea beryls,,elephant husks etc.and further elaborated what the Sinhala Chieftain of the deputation had dressed for the occasion.(2-27-48)-subsequently Mr.K.M.Ganguly who translated all the 18 books, revealed the term Sinhala appeared in Book 1,Ch 177 and Bk 2 Ch 33  and Ch 51. Besides these it is given in several ancient Sanskrit books viz Markandya Purana, Bhagawatha and Brahath sanhitha..Dr.B.J.Perera contributed an article to the Ceylon Historical Journal Vol.2. where he says Sinhala is given in the  Jaina Canonical works which was compiled before the dawn of Buddhism. According to Dr.Senarath Paranavithana, the term Sinhala is Sanskrit. In Pali it is Seehala and Sainhala in Prakrit..Internet depicts Mahabharatha commences its compilation in 900 B.C.But Monier Monier Williams who compiled the first English Sanskrit Dictionary says it was 1200 B C .That shows it is  much before the advent of Vijaya from Gujarath as elaborated in the chronicle Mahavansa.Vijaya is not the progenitor of Sinhala race as described in Mahavansa.. .400 years prior to the advent of Vijaya there had been a civilization at Anuradhapura according to extensive research conducted by veteran archeologist Siran Deraniyagala.The Sinhala Litarati late Mr. Arisen Ahubudu says four major tribes in the ancient island were Deva,Naga,Yakka and Raksa.Prof.J.B.Dissanayaka is agreeable with this. They were speaking  a dialect Illu.Helu or HELA.The combination of the four tribes  Siv + Hela= It became SIHALA the equivalent for the Sanskrit, SINHALA. Scholar Mr.Cumaranatunga contributing an article to  Prabhashodaya in 1935 depicts Sinhala is the term used by ancient time for the country as well as  the language. For both.

According to archeological revelations in the country the first human bone has been discovered in  123,000 years ago at Pathirajawela down South, Subsequent excavation at 80,000 have discovered not only a human bone but fossils of LIONS, rhinoceros  and Hippopotamus. Subsequently more fossils of lions have been discovered from Ratnapura and Sabagamuva province. I hypothesize it is quite possible to have some connection to lion the term Sinhala from ancient time..Our Historians and archeologists must make an attempt to trace this from very old Sanskrit  books of ola leaves  in the Sanskrit  University at Thripunna thurai and several other places in India.We may not have anything for this purpose in our country.

Even in the recent history Jaffna was occupied by Sinhalese. It confirms by Mudliyar Rasanayagam in his book ‘Ancient Jaffna’  page 384 ,if I Quote,-Jaffna was occupied by the Sinhalese earlier than by the Tamils is seem not only in the places names of Jaffna but also in some  of the habits and customs of the people. The system of branding cattle by which not only the caste but also the position and the family of the owner could be traced was peculiarly Sinhalese. That shows from ancient times entire country,North,East,South and West was a Sinhala country.

Isn’t it quite evident that our country is Sinhala  from more than 1000 BC.How could it has any claim to any other community who stepped in just in yesterday!

Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. Who is governing a vast area of India. Why does she wants to grab Kacthchative from Sri Lanka?.It was outhourticaly given over to Sri Lanka after several discussion by two great leaders in the world,Mrs.Srimao Bandaranaiake and Mrs Indira Gandi.Why on earth she who living in a vast area of India wants to grab Kachchative belongs to this small island.Why she wants to send her fishermen with massive boats to grab the ocean floor of the Sri Lanka waters not only to catch fish but to ruin the ocean floor.We had a minister in charge of the area but I do not know whether he uttered a word. Perhaps during that time Chief Minister was in the Jail. Prime minister Modi has no right to falk his fingers into this when he has million of problems.Two hundred and fifty million Dalit people are suffering miserably.Why can’t he look into his problems? What a world!
