When will the Tamil leaders let Jaffna rest in peace?
Posted on August 11th, 2016

H. L. D. Mahindapala

I am neither surprised, nor overly worried about the Tamil students of the Jaffna University beating the Sinhala students. Intermittent inter-ethnic conflicts in various locations have occurred in the past and will continue to happen in the foreseeable future which is, hopefully, transiting from Nandikadal to a more rational and settled period of race relations. Of course, it all depends on whether the current indicators, which are seminal, would turn into a consolidated and  irreversible trend.

What is disconcerting, however, is the fact that the violence of the Jaffna students had taken place at a time when the usual litany of complaints, starting from  1956” to 1983”, have receded into the depths of healing time. The unwanted violence unleashed by the Tamil undergrads had exploded just when the political climate has begun to change, though tardily, to ease tensions and resolve issues within the framework established under the Yahapalanaya regime – a regime, mark you, enthroned by the Tamils, the Muslims and the NGOs and their masters in West. This makes any Tamil violence counter-productive. They will be putting their own security and future at risk if they revert to violence again. Besides, at a time when the international community is ganging up against terrorist violence as never before – and the violent Tamils are still on the  international list of terrorists – any violence raising its menacing  head in Jaffna will have a hard time in convincing the world that they are  the victims of a democratically elected state allied to the West.

In the latest outburst  of  violence there is some consolation in the fact that the Tamil student leader was caught by the cameras wielding only a solid piece of wood and not a kalashnikov. There were also heartening and  spontaneous efforts made from  both sides to douse the flames of wrath. In a calculated move the state has played down the import of violence which is commendable. However, in dismissing the campus  rumpus as another one of  those passing events, it should not be forgotten that the violence has its roots in the indigenous Tamil political culture to exclude non-Tamils from the Jaffna.  The campus violence cannot be dismissed as a sporadic outburst of some misguided students. What took place in Jaffna campus is a part of the political culture that has dominated Jaffna in the post-independent era.

In many ways this incident fits into the Jaffna-centric violence driven by their political obsession to preserve Jaffna as the exclusive domain of the Tamils. It is another episode in the recurring criminal  chain of ethnic cleansing to keep the Muslims and the Sinhalese out of Jaffna. It is the latest manifestation of the Tamil propensity for mono-ethnic politics. It is also a micro-mini replay of the Vadukoddai violence that was aimed at carving out a racist state for Tamils only. In fact, the  language used to excuse Tamil violence in the Jaffna campus echoes the Vadukoddian slogans of demographic colonisation”,  the primacy of Buddhism”, cultural invasions and even the vamsa chronicles”, etc. Recycling the Vadukoddai slogans is another way of reviving the anti-Sinhala-Buddhist racism that dragged Jaffna all the way to Nandikadal.

The overwhelming  post-Independent streak of Jaffna reveals that the  North has lived ONLY (emphasis is mine) by the sword of anti-Sinhala-Buddhist racism. There was no space either in the feudal fascist-casteist (Vellahla) phase, or in its morphed manifestation of fascist—Prabhakaranist tyranny – the only two dynamics that dominated Jaffna — for liberal, democratic, socialist or humanistic politics. The closed society of Jaffna resisted the liberal and pluralistic winds of change that swept the south. Behind the ubiquitous cadjan curtain there was space only for authoritarian cults of fascist casteism or fascist Prabhakaranism. Both cults ruled Jaffna with an iron fist, denying the hapless Jaffna Tamils even the right to walk in the sun. The arrogant leadership of Jaffna always assumed that they knew what was best for their people and led them by their noses to Nandikadal. In the end the leadership of both cults paid with their lives for their arrogance and folly.

There is no one else to blame except the narrow-minded, short-sighted but cocky leaders of Jaffna who overestimated their power and, consequently misled  themselves and the people, missing the  best opportunities of power sharing that came their way, with international guarantees. When the end came they had no one else to blame except their own arrogance and stupidity. With no one else to blame in the last days the Tamil leadership turned on the Tamils. They blamed the Tamils who were deserting  them in droves and running into the shelters provided by the vilified Armed forces. The immorality of Tamils killing Tamils, even when they were fleeing in the hope of finding safer alternatives, reflects the ruthless and obscene politics ingrained in the political culture of Jaffna.

Throughout its history Jaffna politics was driven by hate politics. The Vellahla leadership that steered peninsular politics justified their hate of low-castes with Hindu dogmas revised by Arumuka Navalar, the revisionist who elevated sudra farmers (Vellahlas) to the status  of Brahmins in Jaffna. Under the cover of Navalar’s Saivite sanctions, the Vellahla elite oppressed the imported Tamil slaves and the low-castes as if they were a breed of beasts not  fit for human society. In the post independent period they diverted their hate politics towards the Sinhala-Buddhist of the south. The Vellahlas maintained  their grip on power in the peninsula by stoking hate politics against these two sectors. The Tamil leadership waged wars against both.

Tamil spiritual and secular  leaders joined hands to keep the fires of hate politics burning. Arumuka Navalar, the greatest religious icon of the Vellahlas, led attacks on the low-caste schools to prevent them from coming  up. Even their  revered leader Sir. Ponnambalam Ramanathan did his utmost to retain the oppressive caste system. In the twenties he went  to London on a special mission to legitimise the casteist system. In the sixties, Prof. C. Sutheralingam, the caste fanatic, made a desperate bid at Maviddipuram Temple to keep the low-castes out  of the sacred premises.

According to Prof. Bryan Pfaffenberger the Tamils hated S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike not because of the Sinhala Only Act, though it was there in the background, but because of the Prevention of Social Disabilities Act which was aimed at dismantling the pernicious caste system. Language was to protect government jobs. But  the attack on the caste system was to threaten the entire way of life that was sacred to the Vellahlas.  When the Vellahla leadership switched their anti-low-caste politics to the Sinhala-Buddhists in the post-independent phase they were making  their last stand to save their feudalistic and  colonial powers and privileges. The hidden agenda in the Vadukoddai Resolution was to protect and maintain the Vellahla supremacy at any cost. And when they declared war against the Sinhala-Buddhists at Vadukoddai it was the last throw of their political dice. It was their biggest gamble.

It can also be argued that they were pushed into the Vadukoddai War by the anti-Sinhala-Buddhist mania generated by them in the post-independent era, with  promises of a Tamil Eelam. Over the years it gathered a momentum of its own, raising unattainable expectations. They had steered post-independent politics demonising the Sinhala-Buddhists which left no room for compromise. Besides, with S. J. V. Chelvanayakam’s   little now and more later” tactics he was dragging peninsular politics, step by step, to the bitter end of mono-ethnic extremism. Tamil expectations had reached the giddy limit by 1976. At this point the Northern leadership was in a dither unable to deliver their promises. They were hoisted by their own petard. The disillusioned Tamil youth, partly influenced by the JVP youth and partly by Southern missteps, were at their throats demanding solutions. The desperate Tamil leadership rushed to pass the Vadukoddai Resolution, declaring war, as a politically expedient move to get out  of their predicament. The Tamil leadership legitimised violence and opted for a military solution, abandoning the democratic  mainstream. The ageing leadership urged the Tamil youth to wage the Vadukoddai war against the demonised Sinhala bogeyman. The Vellahlas were hoping  to ride into power on the backs of the misguided Tamil youth drawn from the low-castes mainly. The Vellahlas youth went abroad with their parents to pursue careers in middle-class professions.

The Tamil leadership went as far as they could, living on anti-Sinhala-Buddhist hatred. Inside Jaffna, they defeated their Tamil rivals in electoral politics by pursuing hate politics that demonised the Sinhala-Buddhists. Any attempts  to co-exist in a multicultural, pluralistic society was anathema. Those who were inclined to co-exist were stigmatised as collaborators”. Competing Tamil parties scored electoral victories by  wielding the sword of Sinhala-Buddhist hatred. The  Biblical judgment that condemns those who live by the sword came down decisively to crush their arrogance and  bitterness at Nandikadal. For a while, before the fall at Nandikadal, there were ample opportunities for the Tamil leadership to negotiate a peace deal with honour. But the hatred of Sinhala-Buddhist blinded them to the new possibilities. The Tamil leadership chose to live by the sword of hate. In the end they died by the sword of hate.

What is ominous in the latest Jaffna outburst of violence is the re-birth of  the venomous hatred  that led to Nandikadal. Hate was written all over the faces of Tamil students wielding their  home-made weapons. Though the latest Jaffna incident can be dismissed as a manageable aberration, it nevertheless signals dangerously that Jaffna is ever ready to revert to Vadukoddian violence on the slightest pretext. And, as will be shown in due course, there are rabid elements waiting for an opportunity to exploit the ingrained strain of anti-Sinhala-Buddhist racism for their own profit and glory..

In a febrile attempt to explain the campus violence the NGO and other assorted pundits have rushed to recycle the hacked theories that led to the futile Vadukoddai war. The latest theoretical construction claims that too many Sinhalese students have been sponsored by the state to occupy academic places in the exclusive homeland of Tamils and, what is more, they are manipulated by the Army and the state to enforce”cultural colonisation”. Predictably, Jehan (Pacha) Perera is in the forefront  of this propaganda campaign to demonise the Sinhala-Buddhists and white-wash the Tamil violence.

His theoretical jiggery-pokery has been consistently to keep the fires of anti-Sinhala-Buddhist hatred smouldering. Throughout  the longest war in Asia he not  only sided with the Tamil Pol Pot but even went to the extraordinary extent of conferring the Pol Potist ideologue, Anton Balasingham, the Tamil translator at the British High Commission, with a doctorate which he knew was a lie. Now that Dr.” Balasingham and his master are no longer there he has thrown his weight  behind V. Wigneswaran, the Chief Minister of the northern province, who is making a strenuous bid to take the place of Velupillai Prabhakaran, dressed not in military fatigues but in symbolic and ritualistic Hindu garb, with an unmistakeable dash of holy ash splashed right across his forehead. This symbolism, unfortunately, is not a soothing display of spirituality. Rather, it represents militant Hindu fascism.

Falling in line more  with the extreme politics of the Tamil Surya Devan”, Wigneswaran’s political conduct indicates that he is bent on keeping peninsular politics tied intransigently (Surprise! Surprise!) to the extreme end of Hindu-Tamil racism. His egregious resolution branding all Sinhala leaders as genocidal” killers of Tamils, his prickly relations with the TNA which is, at least, making a show of wanting to find accommodation with the Sri Lanka state, his role as the Abominable Tamil Showman attempting  to fill the vacuum left by his Surya Devan, his demand for a disproportionate share of power bordering on a separate state, his latest resolution on Jaffna violence in which he raises the evil ghosts of the destructive Vadukoddai Resolution etc., reveal his ineradicable mono-ethnic extremism. Apart from adding Prabhakaran to his political pantheon, he is also known to be a devotee of Swamy Premananda who was convicted of raping 13 girls and also murder in India. Using his judicial credentials, he pleaded with the Indian Prime Minister to pardon Swamy Premananda which, of course, was rejected.the fall

It is also well known that Wigneswaran is allied to Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of India – an extreme, right-wing, anti-Muslim political organisation that spits racial hatred, provoking inter-ethnic  violence. VHP programme is to cleanse India of Muslims. It  is not surprising, therefore, to find Wigneswaram participating in VHP platforms in Delhi and urging Indian Hindus to lead a pan-Hindu regional front to protect Hindus. He is noted among the Muslims of Jaffna for marginalising Muslims, almost treating them a non-persons. Despite Muslims of Jaffna raising issues of education, health and welfare with him, he has turned a deaf ear, refusing to give them even a hearing.

Painting a dismal picture of Jaffna under Wigneswaran’s rule, Prof. Rajan Hoole states: Hindu nationalism, already a festering phenomenon in Tamil run institutions, particularly in Jaffna University, attained a more open manifestation in the form of the northern province chief minister, C.V. Wigneswaran. His rise to power in 2013 signified a deep rot and was a sign of things to come.” As in the south, the rot in Jaffna  begins at the top.  Wigneswaran represents the worst elements of the  hate politics of Jaffna. He wriggles like the worm in the pus that oozes out of the incurable hate politics of Jaffna. But what is most  depressing  is the rot that is eating into the Jaffna University. Of the 17 universities it is the most scandal-ridden tertiary institution. Academics giving an A” for a lay has sullied its integrity. Jockeying for academic  positions, unqualified hacks getting promoted over the qualified, and funds flowing into private pockets are unacceptable in a community that reveres education on the  same  plane as Ganesh – the  God of knowledge. Dr. Noel Nadesan, the Tamil expatriate journalist and activist of Melbourne who was targeted by the LTTE, wrote after his latest visit to Jaffna : The most essential elements lacking in the North are moral, social and political leadership. The Jaffna university incident has been the clearest example of failed leadership.”

There is a growing awareness among the Tamil intellectuals now of the failure of the Tamil leadership. The absence of a genuine leadership that can think out  of the racist box and move forward to a more pragmatic phase of peaceful co-existence continues to plague peninsular  politics. The silver lining among the dark clouds over Jaffna, however, is the opening up of free space in the post-Prabhakaran period  for the Tamils to engage in reappraising their past. But no new thinking has emerged to re-evaluate the hate-filled politics of the past. Nor has a  new leadership emerged to take Jaffna out  of the pit into it has fallen.

Getting out of this plight is not easy. The atavistic pull of the racist past is ingrained in peninsular politics. If you remove Sinhala-Buddhism from  their agenda they have nothing to go on. Wigneswaram represents this menacing force. It is the racist extremism, currently spearheaded by Wigneswaran, that will be the biggest stumbling bloc to any future reconciliation. Reconciliation  demands moving  away from the Tamil intransigence of the past and advancing  closer to multi-ethnic co-existence within the natural boundaries of the nation. The Northern leadership threw all what they had, including children, to pursue their elusive goal of Eelam. And they failed. Unfortunately, there are no signs that their tragic history  has taught them any lesson as a guide for  their future.

Northern obsession with power politics at the expense of all other existential considerations dragged the Tamils to depths of a bloody hell. Prabhakaran personified this megalomania. The power he acquired did not save the Tamils. Under him the Tamils were subject to abject servility with no dignity or self-respect. The vast mass of Tamils of all ages – from school children to the aged – were forced to serve him obediently, on their  knees. Of course, the apparatchiks who were a part of the oppressive one-man regime were pleased. But  the  others were waiting for an opportunity to escape. When the end came they voted with their feet to escape the Prabhakaranist gulag.

It is the vilified Sinhala-Buddhists and their Forces that lifted the Jaffna Tamils from the misery of the war declared by their leaders. Their leaders financed the war. They directed  the war. They mobilized the forces for the war. And when the end came where were the Tamil heroes to serve the needs of the abandoned Tamils? The money that flowed from the Tamil Diaspora to kill the Tamils suddenly stopped. There was no money to build  peace for Tamils. There was money only to kill Tamils.

The award-winning French film Dheepan captures the plight  of the Tamils who were trapped in the Vadukoddai war. In one critical scene, Dheepan, who escapes the LTTE violence, is confronted in France by a war-mongering agent collecting  money to buy arms. Dheepan says he has given up fighting. He is thrown to the ground and kicked for refusing to contribute money that goes  to kill the Tamils. He survives. The film ends with Dheepan settling down in his new  home in France, surrounded by multi-ethnic families. He finds peace only in a home away from home, far, far way from his fellow-Tamils killing each other.

Dheepan is fed up of fighting. He wants to lead a normal life. Politics has not  taken him anywhere. Is there any point in chasing a mythical homeland that can’t give Tamils their peace? Dheepan settles for  peace and normal family life. He has stopped chasing illusions of homeland that bleeds everyone to death.

Dheepan  symbolises the life experienced by Tamils trapped in the violence and  hate engineered by their leaders. His life experiences confirm that Tamils have lost their capacity to find peace among  his own Tamil community, whether in Jaffna or France. Isn’t the violent outburst in the Jaffna campus another sign of the inability of Jaffna Tamils to find peace? Isn’t this innate and  chronic violent culture of Jaffna a threat to all communities – most of all to the Jaffna Tamils? Does this mean that they are  doomed to live in perpetual anger and hatred of their non-Tamil neighbours? Is Dheepan saying that there is peace and happiness in a non-violent home abroad than  in their violent  homeland?

The  Tamil leaders have shown  their capacity to lead the Tamils to Vadukoddai and Nandikadal. But can they lead the Tamils to live in peace without killing each other?

After dragging  the Tamil people into a futile 33-year-old war the Tamil leadership owes it to the Tamil people to lead them into a safe haven of peace. Blaming the Sinhala-Buddhists is no longer the solution. They tried that trick long enough and failed. It is time  they took responsibility for their  stupidity that led them to Nandikadal. It is time they opened their eyes and, for the sake of the war-weary people of Jaffna, committed themselves  genuinely for peace and reconciliation. The Tamil people deserve a future without Tamil Pol Pots and Boko Harams. They deserve a future that  will save them from their Tamil saviours who had led them only into death, destruction and  despair so far.

Tamils leaders in S/L and South India will never ever Jaffna or south India rest in peace. They always want more. No ending greediness. In History will show their greediness and it will continue for ever.

  2. Christie Says:

Here we go again. They will rest when the Sinhalese become the minority or when the Indian colonial parasites take full control of the country with the JVP.

    You Know this.

    * The British left behind the rotten legacy of ‘divide & rule’ which Tamil Vellala leaders fell for.
    * The British also left behind the snooty classs system they had back home, which some of our Colombians took to like ducks to water. It’s still simmering : Colombo vs Rural people, everywhere in Lanka.

Best thing to do now to unite the Nation is to OFFICIALLY REVOKE the Vadukoddai Resoln (1976). If the Tamil leaders do not do this, it is obvious that they do want to indeed ‘divide & rule’ in Lanka, and go on misleading low caste Tamil folks who will probably not be allowed any peace of mind, again and again.
The Vadukoddai Resolution (1976) – Eelam through Violence – is the great ‘divide & rule’ piece, dividing the Tamil & Sinhala people.

The ILLEGAL 13-A is the other great ‘divide & rule’ piece, coming from INDIA.

After the British colonists left Lanka, the ‘divide & rule’ priniciple is being carried on through the Tamil leaders and INDIA !

    * REMOVE the ILLEGAL 13-A.
    * Tamil Leades must REVOKE the Vadukoddai Resolution (1976) – Eelam through Violence.

Thank you HLD Mahindapala for this super article which clearly articulates the problems of Jaffna for the whole world including the West and Indians to see. However, as Christie says India is using the fault lines in the Caste system of the Sri Lanka Tamils to take over Sri Lanka one way or another. Now the Yahapalanaya is expediting the Indian takeover by bringing ETAC, bridge to India and opening Indian consulates all over the island. The Indian ambulance service is an example of how India thrusts things we do not ask for on us. They have now taken over the Petrol and Diesel distribution in the country. Each time they come they bring a hoard of low-caste Indians who only want to stay on. The perpetuation of myths such as Ramayana is designed to make Tamils pour into Sri Lanka. Same idea in brings 16 statues of their Tamil poet and planting them all over the island. Why do these Yahapalanya jokers allow all this nonsense? Do they want the Sinhalese to be Indianised? I can imagine Ranil doing it. How about the rest of them including My3.

Therefore, my response is to return the HUG that I will gladly give any Tamil sahodaraya.

My issue is not with Tamils in general, but with Tamil Separatists Tamil Racists who want to divide our motherland demanding rights that other people in the country have.

At this time, I have GIVEN UP on the hope that the majority of Tamils will decisively support living as mere equal citizens of Sri Lanka; they are tempted too much by the prospect of having their own cake in Sti Lanka and eating the Sinhala cake too.

I can guarantee that the Tamils are in for another devastating lesson and more destruction to their community in the future, and are wasting valuable time in reconciling themselves to living as law abiding patriotic equal citizens of one nation.

Sinhala attitudes are HARDENING in thr face if the RENEWED THREAT WE FACE, as have my own views, and the current set of demagogic Tamil leaders are CONTONUING to lead their community over the same cliff that the Surya Devan did earlier.

They have LEARNED NOTHING from the previous disaster. GREED is such a powerful force in the Tamil mind.

The day traitor tamils can rest is when they take over the whole of Sri Lanka. Never loyal, never grateful,
never a good word to say, never enough foreigners will not rest until they annex Sri Lanka to their beloved
tn hell hole. The plan will never die until it succeeds. Take one look at at any of the tamil racist politicians:
traitor Rxx samabanthan, sumanthiran etc. etc. always seething with hatred. Hatred, hatred and hatred
with the drealam mantra are the only things you can see.

They want their crown jewel Colombo to themselves as well initially so they carving out tamil enclaves
along the coastal belt through Chilaw, Negombo etc. Then the upcountry slowly joining to the north and
east. What the racist cancer doesn’t know is while they overwhelming the Sinhala modayas with the support of
traitor catholic-run UNPatriotic party, other racist cancer mussies multiply and multiply and pushing them out in
previously tamil areas. But the racist cancer can’t see that since their never ending hatred towards the
Sinhalese they see as the main goal. So the two cancers killing Mother Lanka with its native Sinhalese slowly
but surely. Sinhalaya being famous for modayas will soon relinquish all the rights and become the doormats
of the two racist cancers before long.

Since we didn’t bring them to Sri Lanka or invited them, they should go back to their beloved tn where
their hearts and loyalties are. I’m sure nobody is going to stop them, miss them or cry for them. Only contribution
to Sri Lanka from them is killing over 100,000 Sinhalese. Still not happy of course, since they couldn’t achieve
their drealam. Maybe maybe traitor chief die hard catholic token Buddhist pol pot ponil wickramaSinhalakiller

  23. plumblossom Says:

There is absolutely no doubt about imperialistic US plans to build a US army, navy and air force base at Trincomalee. Please note that once the US builds their US army, navy and air force base at Trincomalee, they are not going to stop there. They will build other bases within the island. For example, Hambantota harbour could also end up as a US navy base and the Mattala airport a US air force base. Iranawila will again recommence their CIA operations and Palaly in the North in Jaffna will also be converted into a US air force base.

This is the main reason that the US has, from the every beginning, supported the LTTE terrorists, who are their proxy force, wage a war against Sri Lanka to set up a bogus Eelam. The US knows that the only people who are standing against them are the Sinhala people who due to they being majority Buddhist and wanting to preserve Buddhism, being the indigenous people of the island with over 2500 years of history behind them and with our tribal ancestors having over 30,000 years of history within the island and due to they being very socialist in nature and supportive of socialist ideals will never, ever let the US set up any bases in the island.

Therefore the imperialistic US, UK ,EU, Canada, Sweden, Norway and India supported the LTTE terrorists and the TNA set up their Eelam within the island for sure so that they can then set up US army, navy, air force bases within the island.

Sri Lanka lies along the world’s busiest sea route or the maritime silk road. South of Sri Lanka is a the vast Indian ocean. Sri Lanka is located at a most strategic location with the Middle East, Africa and Europe to the North West, with India to the North and with South East Asia and East Asia to the North East of Sri Lanka.

At present the US uses its Diego Garcia base extensively to subdue, bomb, decimate and dominate the rest of the world. However, due to sea level rises, low lying Diego Garcia may even be taken over by the sea. What better place therefore to build a US base than Sri Lanka? This is the reason that the US supports Eelam since sepoy, slavish LTTE, TNA will do whatever the US tells them to do. The only people standing in the way of the US building bases in Sri Lanka are the Sinhala people and they have been slapped with bogus US resolutions at the UNHRC with a view to partitioning the island and bringing on an Eelam with these constitutional changes to turn Sri Lanka into federal states or to even implement the13th amendment to the full which should never ever be implemented and no more powers should be given to the provincial councils, especially no land, police or fiscal powers should be given to the provincial councils under any circumstances. Also the concurrent list subjects should be given over to the national list.

About Trincomalee Harbour, please visit this absolutely stunningly and vast harbour and then anyone can see its potential. Already, the road from Trincomalee has been built and the roads and bridges around Trincomalee harbour has been built. There are over 99 oil tanks near the harbour. There is the existing Sri Lankan air force, army and navy bases. Trincomalee town has been refurbished. Trincomalee harbour is the world’s second largest natural harbour. It has a submarine canyon along its sea floor which is a very deep canyon along the sea floor which can accommodate submarines which then cannot be detected by radar. The harbour itself can accommodate a large fleet of ships. There is also a railwayline all the way from Colombo to Trincomalee. All the infrastructure development was completed by the previous government.

Therefore, there is no doubt that the US would want to build a US army, navy, airbase at Trincomalee. For that they only need an Eelam or federal state and this treacherous Ranil, Sirisena, CBK and Mangala will make sure that happens since they have accepted the bogus US resolution at the UNHRC and placed our armed forces in deep trouble when our armed forces are totally not guilty but the LTTE war criminals are now suddenly totally innocent of all the war crimes that the LTTE terrorists committed for over three decades. Also all Sri Lankans should totally oppose implementing the 13th amendment to the full or any more powers being given to the provincial councils than they have at present. Especially no land, police or fiscal powers should be given to the provincial councils under any circumstances. Also the concurrent list subjects should be given over to the national list.

  25. Nalliah Thayabharan Says:

The venomous racist politics of Jaffna is always self-destructive. “Jaffna Tamils” lost their social culture since they started supporting political murders. There was a lack of conviction about condemning the barbarous massacre of Buddhist pilgrims in Anuradhapura, in 1985. Prabhakaran led LTTE was intensely fascinated by death and dead bodies. Tamil Diaspora is yet to reform and still suffering from victim-hood mentality.

Racist Vellalar of Jaffna were the founders of the fascist culture in Jaffna. Despite the civilized veneer presented to the outside world, Jaffna Tamils ran a fascistic regime reducing the depressed Tamils to slaves. Jaffna Vellalar’s cruel caste system has no other parallel in any other part of Sri Lanka. Jaffna Vellalar virtually had a free run of the Jaffna peninsula because the colonial rulers turned a blind eye to the subhuman Jaffna Vellalar culture of violence. Thesavalamai legitimized slavery and the Jaffna Vellala slave-owners ruled the peninsula with an iron fist, with the Portuguese, Dutch and English colonial administrators often refusing to interfere in the laws and customs of the ruling caste and class. Thesa (land) walamai (laws and customs) legitimized the land-owning Jaffna Vellalar as the slave-masters of Jaffna peninsula. From feudal and colonial times until May 18, 2009 when the Tamil cult of violence sank in Mullivaykal, Jaffna peninsula was under the jackboot of, first, Vellala fascism followed, second, by their equally brutal fascists – Velupillai Prabhakaran led LTTE. Both Vellalar and Velupillai Prabhakaran led LTTE oppressed and subjugated Tamils and denied their victims the fundamental right to live with even a modicum of dignity and self-respect. The LTTE took over from where the Vellalar left and perpetuated the cult of fascist violence which reduced the Jaffna Tamils to subhumans.

Tamil speaking Sri Lankans had shown almost an inexhaustible capacity to produce engineers, doctors, accountants, clerks and shopkeepers but the Tamil political culture failed to produce an enlightened political leadership that could rise above their Jaffna peninsularity of mind and lead the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans towards realistic and attainable political goals. Not since Sir Pon Arunachalam left the Ceylon National Congress, rupturing hopes of communal harmony, has Tamil speaking Sri Lankans produced a political leadership which has had the vision to accept co-existence in a multi-ethnic society as the most natural, viable and peaceful path for the welfare of all communities in Sri Lanka. Blind to the future, the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans have grown up during the past several decades in a self-made political culture of resistance to reform. Tamil speaking Sri Lankans suffered the most in Sri Lanka because of their leaders’ blind refusal to co-exist in a multi-ethnic society sharing the land in common with the other communities. Their suicidal political ambitions, arising from an exaggerated view of their self-importance and superiority, drove them to an end on May 18, 2009 at Mullivaykal, they never thought would come.

Velupillai Prabhakaran led LTTE was a reflection of Jaffna Vellalar. Velupillai Prabhakaran led LTTE emerged from among the Jaffan Tamils, and shared the same “Jaffna peninsularity of beliefs”. Velupillai Prabhakaran led LTTE did the most to destroy the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans. In counting on gains through its strength as a conventional military force, and dragging out the war for 25 years Velupillai Prabhakaran led LTTE missed opportunities to even entrench their own position. Velupillai Prabhakaran led LTTET’s singular focus on military strength, to the detriment of political gains and support from the people on the ground, all while ensuring their emergence as the dominant Tamil armed force was the cause of their demise.

Many castes in Jaffna Penisula can be found in South India except Nazhavar, Koviyar and Madappalli. Ancient Kalinga territory did bleed into both today’s Andhra Pradesh and Orissa and it was a maritime power. They exported people and both Hindu and Buddhist ideas all over southeast Asia. Indians were called as “Klings” in Malaysia. A lot dynasties in ancient and medieval Sri Lanka claimed to be Kalinga and Kashtriya dynasties including the later Arya Chakaravarthis of Jaffna.

Vellalar are Tamil speaking people who are a land owning feudal agrarian community. Some of the Vellalar in the Medieval period were sages such as Naayanmaar and religious scholars like Chekkilaar. Out of the 63 Naayanmaar, 13 were Vellalar. Several castes used many made up stories to upgrade them in the caste hierarchy in Jaffana peninsula. This is how 65% Tamil speaking Sri Lankans ended up being Vellalar where as in Tamil Nadu Vellalar never make up more than 10% of a local population except in Kongu Nadu. This is a never-ending game throughout South Asia in every ethnic group. Even after converting themselves as Muslims doesn’t prevent people from inventing stories about their past. In Afghanistan and Pakistan Pashtun tribes claim Semitic Arab origin to elevate them in the tribal hierarchy. Jaffna peninsula was a virgin territory for a lot of adventurers from India of `lowly’ origin who rose up in the hierarchy by hard work and cleverly masking their past. If each and every high caste Vellalar families do an unbiased genealogical study they will find adventurers from India of `lowly’ origin .

Though Jaffna Tamils claims to be the heartland of Tamil culture it has yet to produce something significant, or classical to stand out of the other varieties of Tamil, either local or abroad. It has yet to produce masterpieces of value to be recognized as the fountain of Tamil arts, architecture, music, literature and other creative activities. If Jaffna Tamils put to the test and asked to cite one piece of literature, drama, poetry, music, architecture etc that could match either the Tamil culture of South India or the Sinhala-Buddhist culture of the south they would withdraw into a stunned silence like the thuthiri creeper. In other words, they have come to believe that they have a great culture with nothing to back up their claim. The failure to produce a significant Tamil culture debunks the mythology which leads them to believe that they are the creators and owners of Sri Lanka — at least a part of it.

Unlike the Sinhala-Buddhist they, obviously, had no sense of belonging to the land , or sense of destiny tied to the land. This is understandable because they were always linked to their motherland and they regarded Sri Lanka as a convenient transit lounge to get back to South India as and when they please. The historical fact is that while the Sinhalese settled down as the inheritors of the good earth from the pre-Christian era the Tamils decided to settle down as permanent inhabitants only in the 12 – 13th centuries. If they had settled down from the time they claimed to have arrived — i.e, the pre- Buddhist era — and dedicated themselves to make the island theirs they would not have been passing the Vadukoddai Resolution in 1976 making spurious historical claims to a land which belongs to all communities. It is after the Sinhala-Buddhists transformed the natural wilderness into a glorious civilization that they set out to grab a share of it claiming that they were founding fathers of Sri Lanka.

  26. Nalliah Thayabharan Says:

Most of the people of Sri Lanka migrated to the island from Indian more than 2,500 years ago, often in the interest of trade, war, religion, economic opportunity, or colonization.

Sri Lanka’s history left the island with a diverse population composed of self-conscious ethnic groups, differentiated by religion, language, and social customs. Hinduism, the island’s first religion, came from India during its era of unrecorded history.

Theravada Buddhism was introduced from India 2,300 years ago. Arab traders and western colonists brought Islam and Christianity in the tenth and sixteenth centuries.

Early in Sri Lanka’s history, education became associated with high caste status and privilege. The sweep of Buddhism from India into Sri Lanka in the 2,300 years ago converted kings and people. Monasteries were erected to educate monks. These monks built the first pirivenas, or temple schools, in the villages, educating the laity in religion and secular subjects.

The Portuguese who arrived in 1505 with a gun in one hand and the bible in the other, occupied the coastal areas and soon became a constant source of aggression, annoyance and terror to the large mass of people. In the coastal areas that they occupied, almost all Viharayas and Privenas were destroyed, including the Kelani Raja Maha Viharaya, the famous Totagamuwe Vijayaba Pirvena, Padmavathi Pirivena of Keragala and Sunethra Devi Pirivena of Pepiliyana. Portuguese rule of Sri Lanka brought both Franciscans and Jesuits, who founded 41 parish schools, and 3 Franciscan and 2 Jesuit colleges. Converting the island’s diverse population was a primary focus of this educational mission. The Dutch who ousted the Portuguese in 1640 were instrumental in destroying temples, monasteries including the royal palace at Hanguranketa.
The Dutch replaced the Catholic parish schools with schools affiliated with the Dutch Reformed Church. Both the Portuguese and the Dutch used religious conversion to promote access to educational opportunity. Native Sri Lankans quickly realized that if they wanted to gain a public office or qualify as a schoolmaster, they had to convert to the Dutch Reformed faith, and did. A Dutch seminary in Colombo, the capital, provided additional higher education. The Dutch educational system in Sri Lanka continued to foster the public’s perception of a link between education and financial success.

The British who ousted the Dutch in 1796 had a well-planned program of activities, for a continuous period of about 150 years, led to the greatest damage to the country’s culture, social cohesion, unity and dignity. When the British began their occupation of Sri Lanka, they gave responsibility for the island’s education to Christian missionary societies who promoted an English, western-oriented education designed to “civilize” the Sri Lankan people. English schools charged fees and received British government grants. The island’s nonEnglish vernacular (secular) schools were taught in Sinhala or Tamil, Sri Lanka’s two principal languages. Vernacular schools were traditionally under financed because they were denied government educational grants. Without government subsidies, these schools could offer only the basics of an elementary education. Buddhist temple schools, primarily in rural areas, suffered the most: in addition to being denied government funding, they could not charge fees, the result of successful lobbying by the missionary societies who wanted the elimination of any rival religious schools. Under British rule, Sri Lankans who spoke English were eligible to become teachers. Colonial administrators only recruited only English-speaking Sri Lankans for government service. Thus the Sri Lankans who prospered under British colonial rule were more likely to be better-educated, high-caste Hindu Tamils, Tamils who converted to Christianity and were educated in English schools, or descendants of the Burghers.
Christians, the island’s smallest minority, were historically the best educated. In 1901, approximately 55 % of Christian males were literate, compared to only 35 % of Buddhist males, 34 % of Muslim males, and 26 % of Hindu males. Among Christian women, 30 % were literate, compared to 5 % among Buddhist women, 3 % among Muslim women, and 2 % percent among Hindu women. The lower literacy rates among Hindu males can be attributed to the inclusion of the uneducated and stateless imported Indian Tamil males who worked tea plantations. Cultural factors account for the low literacy rates among Buddhist, Muslim, and Hindu women. By 1921, within just 20 years, literacy rates among the island’s male population rose to 66 % for Christians, 50 % for Buddhists, 45 % for Muslims, and 37 % for Hindus. For women, 50 % of Christians were literate, while literacy rates among Buddhist, Muslim, and Hindu women rose to 17 %, 6 %, and 10 %, respectively.

When independence was granted in 1948, Sri Lanka had 5,895 schools enrolling more than 1 million students. The nation’s literacy rate was 57 %, the highest among both Great Britain’s colonies and Asian nations. British rule had favored an English-speaking Tamil minority who benefited from better education, which led to higher incomes and more valuable careers. For centuries Sri Lankan Tamils used education to promote their social mobility. The Tamil region in northern and eastern Sri Lanka is arid and infertile compared to the rest of the island and is unsuitable for profitable farming. The Tamils depended on education to prosper. Under British rule the Tamil minority received a disproportionate share of university and government positions. Higher earnings among Sri Lankan Tamils plus the income sent home by overseas Tamils generated greater economic prosperity in the Tamil regions than in the rest of the country. But the Independence in 1948 changed the balance of power.

Sri Lankans should have retained their friendly, childlike nature and combined it with the inventiveness of their European conquerors. Sri Lankans inherited the power lust of their European colonisers, but none of their vision. Sri Lankans also inherited Portuguese lethargy, Dutch hedonism and British snobbery. The British left no room for the leadership to emerge from the truly indigenous people. All colonial powers acted on pure and absolute “self interest”. British occupation of Sri Lanka was one of sheer exploitation and devastation. Whatever benefits that were derived by local inhabitants were merely incidental to their exploitation of the country’s natural and human resources in order to reap enormous benefits for the British government. The vast changes that they brought about in almost all areas of life in the country, led to the disruption of the long held culture, values and way of life of local inhabitants, particularly those of the main stream community the Sinhala Buddhists.

To serve their self interests the British practiced the “divide and rule” policy by setting communities against each other. The British gave special privileges to the Tamil minority and those of the Christian faith, by providing with better opportunities for education, employment and other government services to became privileged communities. Jaffna district had the highest density of schools per unit area.

In 1870 there were only two Buddhist schools left in Sri Lanka – in Panadura and Dodanduwa, with an attendance of 246 children as against 805 Christian Schools with an attendance of 78,086 children.

Several people went after the British and then started to follow their religion and culture in order to gain various positions and other material benefits.
Colombo assumed prominence as the commercial centre and also the center of learning and opportunities for better employment and better amenities for living. This created an outer-oriented, English-speaking urban sub-culture consisting mostly of Christians, with attitudes and behavior patterns seemingly akin to that of the British. Most of the outer-oriented urban elite which included the so called Sri Lankan leaders, held to half-baked foreign values, superficialities and strange ways of living. They were barely conversant with the plight of the majority of the ordinary people. They were not representative of the large mass of people, but they were the ones who became the trusted servants of the British administration. Almost all of the qualified professionals belonged to or subscribed to this sub-culture. The excessively poor living conditions of the large mass of rural youth led to migration to Colombo and other big towns. Some were subjected to the influence of the extremes forms of undesirable urban culture including alcohol abuse, crime and underworld activities that was gaining ground in urban areas. To make matters worse, power -political, administrative, and economic was inherited by those belonging to the westernized Colombo sub-culture.

Dr Ananda Coomaraswamy urged Sri Lankans to develop a sense of their own traditions and national culture. He challenged the intrusion on eastern values by the expansion of western society. Besides, he was one of the world’s greatest exponents of oriental art, comparative religion and aesthetics.
There were also fearless Buddhist monks who openly spoke out against British rule and the colonial mentality of our so called leaders. Prominent among them was Ven. Migettuwatte Gunananda Thera whose Panadura debate with the missionaries in August 1873 was a remarkable event in the country’s history.
Great Patriot Anagarika Dharmapala spoke of the superficiality of the lives of those of the Colombo sub culture who have joined up with the colonialists to run the country.

On February 4, 1948 we obtained the so-called Dominion Status with the Queen of England as the Head of State and with the British maintaining military bases in Katunayake and Trincomalee. Aging Englishmen became our first Governor Generals, whereas India became a free republic with an outstanding Indian Dr. Rajendra Prasad as its first President.

It was in 1957 through the initiative of Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike that these British bases were taken over by the Sri Lankan government. Even though Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike became a Buddhist to please the masses, Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike was a Christian till the day died. Dr. P.R. Anthonis testified that Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike was wearing a cross when he died.

From the 13th century when migration of Vellalar to Jaffna took place, Tamil Nadu has seen a decline in the traditional power of Vellalar. Successive colonial powers in Sri Lanka found Vellalar useful where Brahmins were not forthcoming. The Vellalar were not only cultivators, but a section of them which had developed scribal skills, provided the local officials, interpreters and accountants. Vellalar took the advantage of the situation and submitted themselves as slaves to the colonials and in return colonials were more kind towards their loyal servants. That is how Vellalar became the civil service force to help rule of colonials.

In 1847, Kandar Arumukampillai(aka Arumuga Navalar) left the Jaffna Central College where he was a teacher because a ‘low caste’ Tamil student from the Nalavar caste was admitted to the school by the principal Peter Percival. Three decades later when a famine hit Northern Sri Lanka Kandar Arumukampillai worked tirelessly to provide food and medicine to Vellalar only.

The lower caste Tamil speaking Sri Lankans were treated as stray dogs by Vellalar. Caste system among Tamil speaking Sri Lankans has given rise to serious social evils. It denied certain civil rights to a large number of people and let to the oppressions and exploitations by Vellalar, which paved a constant source of discontent or unrest.

Vellalar were the founders of the fascist culture in Jaffna. Despite the civilized veneer presented to the outside world Vellalar ran a fascistic regime reducing the depressed loer caste Tamil speaking Sri Lankans to slaves. Vellalar’s cruel caste system has no other parallel in any other part of Sri Lanka. Vellalar virtually had a free run of the Jaffna peninsula because the colonial rulers turned a blind eye to the subhuman Vellalar’s culture of violence. Thesavalamai legitimized slavery and the Vellalar ruled the land with an iron fist, with the colonial administrators often refusing to interfere in the laws and customs of the Vellalar.

In 1871, Caste clashes erupted between Vellalar, Dhoby caste and Barber caste in Mavittapuram when Dhoby caste people refused to wash the clothes of Barber caste people. Vellalar were blamed for the violence.

September 1923 in Suthumalai, Vellalar attacked lower caste people who had hired drummers for a funeral alleging that lower caste people had no right to employ drummers for their funerals as they were ‘low caste’. In 1931 a similar violent riot took place in Chankanai where Pallar were attacked by Vellalar people for hiring drummers for a funeral.

Do Tamil speaking Sri Lankans need to be reminded that they did not allow low castes to enter any place that Vellalar frequented? In June 1929 caste riots broke out again in Jaffna in response to the ‘equal seating directive’ of the government which was applicable to grant-aided schools. Under this directive ‘low caste’ students were allowed to sit on the bench. Until then they sat either on the floor or outside the classroom. This was how Tamil speaking Sri Lankans treated their own! Resultant riots bunt a large number of houses mainly of low caste Tamils. Their children en masse were stopped from attending schools. Repeated petitions were made to the government by Vellalar begging to cancel the directive! Ponnambalam Ramanathan went to request the Colonial Office in London to encode caste into legislative enactments. Ponnambalam Ramanathan led the opposition to democratization by opposing universal franchise proposed by the Donoughmore reformers in the 1920′ on the ground that it would give the lower caste Tamil speaking Sri Lankans the right to vote.

When Vellalar initiated their extremist demands it was the British who rejected them and not the Sinhalese. The British cultivated Vellalar as subservient and pliant agents of their regime. But this protection given to the privileges of the Vellalar was beginning to erode under the relentless invasions of modernity. The arrogant Vellalar reacted convulsively when the encroachments of modernity began to undermine Vellalar’s feudal and colonial privileges. Vellalar were reluctant to challenge the British whose patronage had made them the most privileged community in British Ceylon. Vellalar preferred to go along with the British colonialists, covertly aiding their white masters as complying agents in the legislature and in the administration. This political ploy was a common tactic, both under the Dutch and the British, to win a nudge-and-wink from the colonial masters to siphon off a disproportionate share of the state’s resources to Vellalar. The Dutch records categorically identify the need to win the Vellalar’s consent to be in command of Jaffna.

In 1931 the Vellalar attacked the lower castes for hiring drummers for funerals. The message of the Vellalar was clear – no low castes could hire drummers for funerals!

Even after Independence, the Sinhala speaking Sri Lankans hardly knew of the existence of the lowwe caste Tamil speaking Sri lankans. As far as the Sinhala speaking Sri Lankan leaders were concerned the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans whom they met in Colombo, the leaders of Tamil Congress and the Federal Party, the Tamil speaking professionals and academics, and the Tamil speaking public servants were the real Tamil speaking Sri Lankans, indeed they were only Vellalar!

G.G.Ponnambalam succeeded in burying the “aristocracy” of the old guard led by Arunachalam Mahadeva with his “50-50″ demand. Veluppillai Chelvanayakam buried G.G.Ponnambalam by taking “50-50″ to the next stage of separatism. And from the grave of Appapillai Amirthalingam rose Thiruvenkadam Velupillai Prabhakaran. Each death was a milestone in escalating racism. No other community has pursued and injected racism into an electorate as the Vellalar fighting for their survival, with Jaffna as their base.

It was S.W.R.D Bandaranaike who opened the doors for low caste Tamil speaking Sri Lankans to attend schools & temples – places that were taboo to them by their own Tamil speaking brethren.

The Social Disabilities Act No. 21 was passed in the parliament in 1957 giving lower castes of Tamil speaking Sri Lankans the right to attend schools & temples as the part of S.W.R.D Bandaranaike’s plan was to penetrate into the “low caste” votes of Tamil speaking Sri Lankans. Lower castes Tamil speaking Sri Lankan children could attend school regularly only after this act. A reawakening happened in the north among previously marginalised lower caste Tamil speaking Sri Lankans.

No sooner Vellalar realized the dangers of SLFP government led by S.W.R.D Bandaranaike courting the low caste Tamil speaking Sri Lankans, Vellalar devised their response. It was to create the best division possible. A rift between the Tamil speaking Sri Lankans and Sinhala speaking Sri Lankans which would strike better success than low caste – Vellalar divisions among Tamil speaking Sri Lankans. It is important to note that the satyagrahas, the tarring of Sinhala letter “SRI” instead of English letters on vehicle licence plates launched by the Veluppilai Chelvanayagam led Federal Party and G.G Ponnambalam led Tamil Congress – both Vellala high class political parties happened a year after making Sinhala the official language. Why did Federal Party and Tamil Congress not cry foul over the Sinhala Only Act in 1956 but oppose the Social Disabilities Act on 1957 with such venom? It is because Tamil speaking Sri Lankans wanted to deprive their own.

Wijeyananda Dahanayake who was the Minister of Education in 1957, gave teaching appointments to many lower caste Tamil speaking Sri Lankans who had three credit passes in the S.S.C Exam (G.C.E O/L). Appapillai Amirthalingam who was an Federal Party MP then, opposed this move under the pretext that it would bring down educational standards.

Similarly, when the Sirima Ratwatte Dias Bandaranaike led SLFP Government introduced university standardization in 1973 those that opposed were those who were against equitable distribution. The schools in thirteen out of twenty two districts did not produce a single engineering or medicine student until 1974. Students from Colombo and Jaffna who had been privy to education opposed opportunities that would be enjoyed by students from Mannar, Monaragala, Vavuniya, Ampara, Kilinochchi & other less developed districts. While the composition of the ethnicity did not change entrance, for Tamil speaking Sri Lankans it meant not only the Vellalar but lower caste Tamil speaking Sri Lankans too would gain university entrance. This was why Vellalar opposed the 1973 university standardization introduced by Sirima Ratwatte Dias Bandaranaike led SLFP Government.

Maru Sira already has a stranglehold on SLFP and it has no hope.

    Thank you, Nalliah.

  29. Ananda-USA Says:

Thank you Nalliah Thabyharan for pointing out the caste-related origins of the Vellalar orchestrated pitting of the Tamil people against the Sinhala people.

In short, the Vellalar wanted to gut the Social Diabilities Act enacted by two SLFP go ernments that undermined their discrimination and exclusion of low-caste Tamil people from public benefits and human rights.

The anti-Sri licence plate tarring campaigns of
Ponnambalam’s Tamil Congress and Chelvanayaksm’s Federal Party, Ramanathan’s 50-50 demand, and Chelvanayakam’s Federal governance demands were all ROOTED in the Vellalar’s urge to maintain their caste supremacy in the Tamil Community, something that the egalitarian actions against social inequities by successive Sinhala governments was undermining.

The Sinhala governments were destroying Vellalar caste supremacy among Tamils, so the Sinhale were labelled as the ENEMIES of the Tamils! The fact that the laws enacted by successive Sinhala Governments benefited socially deprived people in all ethnic communities of Sri Lanka, and especially low-caste Tamils, is LOST today in the Tamil Nationalist language of the self’proclaimed Tamil “victims” of the Sinhalese!

It is AMAZING how all of the egalitarian virtues of the Sri Lankan society that has been shaped by and come to fruition under these demon Sinhalese are ROUTINELY IGNORED by the world community in their hurry to demonize it for political reasonx. They never bother to unravel Sri Lanka’s true social history and the vast societal gains that have been made in our Motherland compared to the rest of the world!

  30. Dilrook Says:

    Ananda,

That was why Tamil racists demonised Sinhalese. Otherwise the Tamil community would have split politically – one holding on to barbaric caste discrimination (TNA, ACTC, TULF voters) and another – progressive Tamils and low caste Tamils. By demonising Sinhalese and Muslims, TNA, TULF, ACTC, etc. managed to keep their vote base intact.

Of course the world ignores it. Truth never wins by itself. Whatever that advances a country’s national interest is accepted as the truth. The problem is Sri Lanka has still not mastered this. We naively think that by some miracle truth will triumph whereas it does not.

Look what happens to Russia. USA is once again encircling Russia (and China too this time) but very successfully blames it on “Russian aggression”. Most earthlings buy that. Kashmir and Palestine are other examples.

  31. Ananda-USA Says:

Patriots! Please read Jayalalitha’s pro-Eelam statements in the following article, and Wigneswaran’s support for them.

Everyday, that the Yamapalanaya remains in power undermining our country, the Sri Lankan Tamil Separatists GROW STRONGER consolidating their hold on the North and East, and the security and territorial integrity of our Motherland falls into greater peril.

New Delhi-Tamil Nadu Relations and India’s Sri Lanka Policy
Sun, Aug 14, 2016, 06:39 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 14 (IPCS) “Could a state hostage the central government’s decision especially affecting its foreign policy towards another nation? State can’t put pressure for the central government decisions.

I am tired and like Muhammed Ali I will allow them to punch me continuously but wait for the right moment to strike,” said Salman Khurshid, the then Indian external affairs minster, at the Asian Relations Conference held in 2013 at the Indian Council for World Affairs, New Delhi.

He said this the same day India voted for the UN Human Rights Council resolution against its neighbor Sri Lanka due to much pressure from south India. It is worth remembering the incident and the statement to forecast how much pressure the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has and could lay on New Delhi in the future regarding relations between the two countries. India’s Sri Lanka policy had for long been hostage to the Tamil Nadu political parties’ stand on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

During the election campaign, the recently reelected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalitha, had promised that her party would pressure the Centre to provide dual citizenship to Sri Lankan Tamils in Tamil Nadu and to create a separate Eelam (state) in Sri Lanka. This would fulfil the dream of the defeated terrorist leader of the Liberation Tigers of the Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Prabakaran’s dream. With Jayalalitha’s victory in the state elections, the Sri Lanka South India relationship is back to square one. Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena would have to navigate his New Delhi-Colombo relationship with all these external political pressures.

Over her election campaign in 2009, she had said, “We will fight to attain that independent, separate Eelam. Till today, I have never said that separate Eelam is the only solution. I have spoken about political solution, this and that. But, now I emphatically say, a separate Eelam is the only permanent solution to the Lankan conflict.” This demonstrates clear indication of repetition in each election of a promised land with much better hope to the Tamils. The poaching and acquisition of Kachativu Island is also played up during the election time. Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka, Chief Minister of the Northern Province V Vigneswaran congratulated and admires her statement. Furthermore, both chief ministers will meet in the near future most probably without the consent of their central governments.

Seeking external assistance from Jayalalitha for Sri Lankan Tamils is a comical move while previous government and this government has provided so much assistance to the northern Tamilians. The recent request by Chief Minister Vigneswaran to evacuate the army from Sri Lanka’s northern peninsula could antagonise the national security of the entire country. Sri Lanka has come out of a three-decade war with deep scars and security should still be a top priority. Strengthening intelligence and security of the island nation should not be compromised for any political gains of individuals. On another dimension, we could see another threat slowly emerging with over 50 Sri Lankans having joined the terrorist group, Islamic State.

If one looks at regional geopolitics, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has elevated the US-India relationship to significant heights. Sometime back, Modi was barred from entering the US due to concerns of the 2002 riots, but is now a favorite of the US. Few days ago, during his visit to the US, speaking at Capitol Hill, Modi expressed his interest in deeper US-India security relations, especially combating terrorism together. Both India and the US have lost many civilians and soldiers during the fight against terror and the need of the hour is to deepen our security cooperation. The prime minister also stated the regional concerns of Chinese expansionism – a much discussed topic at the recent Shangri-la Dialogue.
When asked as to what India’s position will be if Sri Lanka gets another Chinese submarine port call, the Indian defence minister said it will be looked at case by case. Yet, it is necessary to have a proactive defence strategy among the two nations than firefight in such situations.

There are 48 warships under construction for the Indian Navy, including one aircraft carrier, one nuclear and six conventional submarines, and a variety of destroyers, frigates and corvettes. By 2027 the capacity will be expanded to hold 198 warships. While a silent yet aggressive naval build-up is taking place in Sri Lanka’s neighborhood, Colombo should be ready to proactively face any future challenge as the Indian Ocean security environment is expected to remain complex. On 20 June, the Nuclear Suppliers Group meeting will take place in Seoul, South Korea. India is supposed to step in as a member of this group with the assistance of the US, which China has already resisted. If given membership, the regional geopolitical tension on the Indo-Pakistan and Indo-China fronts will be tense.

President Sirisena with his decades of political experience has so far clearly mastered his decisions on foreign policy with his short time in office. The India-Sri Lanka relationship has strengthened in a positive way than his predecessor. The success of the G7 and his last visit to China show clear indications of perfect balance of foreign policy. These events could only predict a scenario where a positive sum game will be played by President Sirisena, who could bring back the golden age of Sri Lankan foreign policy or even do much better than late Madam Sirimavo Bandaranayake, a close political friend of President Sirisena for many years.

Armed guards on trains to prevent attacks

    By Kasun Warakapitiya
Armed Railway guards were deployed on the Jaffna-bound train yesterday after a series of attacks including Friday’s tragedy where a passenger was killed when he was hit by a bottle thrown at the Vavuniya-bound train.

Railways General Manger B.A.P Ariyaratna said yesterday that the Railways took this decision after a series of attacks, including an incident where a train passenger, an education officer, was killed when he was hit by a bottle which was thrown at the train.
Mr. Ariyaratna said that from Friday, the Railways had deployed two armed Railway guards on each long-distance train. He said the Railways believed an organised gang was behind these attacks and the main targets were long-distance trains.
The Railways security division and the Police are carrying out investigations to arrest the suspect who threw the bottle at the Vavuniya-bound train at Orugodawatte.

Railways Security Chief Anura Premaratne said that after the war ended more people were using trains to travel to the North and this was a big loss to private transport operators. He said the Defence Ministry had given the Railways security the authority to use weapons for the safety of travellers and self-defence.

Sri Lanka Opposition Leader briefs Norwegian PM on Tamil people’s concerns
Sat, Aug 13, 2016, 12:12 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Leader of Opposition and main Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) R. Sampanthan apprised the visiting Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg on the situation in the North East when she met the Opposition Leader Friday for discussions.

The TNA leader has drawn the Norwegian Prime Minister’s attention to several issues that are of concern to the Tamil people in the North and East including the land issue and resettlement of the displaced.

He has pointed out that although some of the lands had been released by the military in the North and East, the process is slow and the government could have done much more in this matter as well as in the resettlement of the displaced people.

According to the state newspaper Daily News, the Opposition Leader discussing the process of drafting the new Constitution has stressed that a solution to the national question must be found in the new Constitution.

Speaking at the meeting with regard to the Office on the Missing Person’s Bill, TNA parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran has said that it is a positive step the Government has taken in finding the truth which would lead to true reconciliation.

The Prime Minister assured that Norway would continuously and constructively engage with Sri Lanka in supporting to its economic development and also in the reconciliation process.

Sri Lanka Mulls Purchase of New Fighter Aircraft
Mon, Aug 15, 2016, 07:49 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 15 (Diplomat) The Sri Lankan government has publicly announced that it is intends to purchase eight to 12 new multirole combat aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), according to local media reports.

Last week, Sri Lanka’s President, Maithripala Sirisena and his Cabinet have officially granted the countrys defense ministry permission to solicit offers from foreign aircraft manufacturers for the procurement of new aircraft and associated weapons systems on a government-to-government basis.

The SLAF’s fighter fleet currently consists of one single Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Kfir multi-role combat aircraft. While the Kfir uses the same airframe as the French-made Dassault Mirage 5, it is equipped with Israeli avionics and an Israeli-built variant of the General Electric J79 turbojet engine. From 1995 to 2005, Sri Lanka acquired a total of 16 Kfir fighter jets from Israel. At least seven aircraft were lost due to accidents or ground attacks on airbases during the Sri Lankan Civil War.

“At the moment, only one Kfir aircraft – the remaining six aircrafts cannot be used. We have seven MiG aircrafts and eight other aircrafts but none of them can be used. The Government will consider all offers and select a suitable one,” Cabinet Spokesman and Parliamentary Reforms and Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka said during a weekly Cabinet press briefing last week.

The announcement of a request for proposals coincided with an official two-day visit of the chief of air staff of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Air Chief Marshall Sohail Aman, to Sri Lanka. Pakistan has repeatedly been pitching its Pakistan Aeronautical Complex/Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation (PAC/CAC) JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft to the SLAF and purportedly made a strong push to sell eight fighter jets back in January.

SLAF is in a TERRIBLE SITUATION.

    Kfir – TOTAL 7 – USEABLE – 1
    MiG – TOTAL 7 – USEABLE – 0
    J7 – TOTAL 8 – USEABLE – 0

This is HORROR maintenance. All in all 21 planes out of 22 cannot be used!! What absolute madness is this.

Next time we should buy good quality ones and MAINTAIN them well.

Kfirs are the OLDEST but one works which means we should buy Kfirs. They have tested the time. It also means we will NOT get into this Endia-Pakistan-China problems. Our national security is ABOVE all this nonsense. Go for the Kfir or Levi (another Israeli jet).

I don’t think this happened after the war. Even during the war despite having bought so many jets, VERY FEW actually bombed terrorists. During war time I CONSTANTLY pointed out in defence forums our HORRIBLE LACK of working jets. After war we lost 5 jets. We didn’t buy any. That means during war time we had 27 jets. But not even 1/5 of it was used in bombing.

This is UNACCEPTABLE. No corruption this time. Buy GOOD Kfir jets without anyone making money.

  36. Lorenzo Says:

We were screaming CAS, CAS, CAS (close air support) during the war when army was getting a beating from Tamils and some in the battlefield (including “Matara Ayya”) told us we have NOT ENOUGH jets in working order. Seems they were correct.

IF we had more working jets, many more soldiers would have SURVIVED and many more Tamil Elamists would have gone to hell. The cost of corruption and neglect.

    After the war TOTAL NEGLECT.

  38. Fran Diaz Says:

Instead of having expensive Jet Fighters that go defunct after some years, it is far more practical and so much cheaper to have a program to train EVERY true born healthy citizen of Sri Lanka (between ages 18-40 yrs), as part of a Stand by Reserve Army. At least 2-3 million true born citizens must be trained.

Stupidity will only lead to sadness, sorrow and more deaths. Who gains from such negativity ?

** Also REMOVE the ILLEGAL 13-A.
** Tamil leaders must officially REVOKE the Vadukoddai Resolution of 1976 (Eelam through Violence). What kind of leadership are these Tamil leaders providing – they are just killing off their own youth ?

** Re the UN and their ACCOUNTABILITY issues to Buddhist Sri Lanka :

    Suggestion :

Sri Lanka PORTS (both sea & air) must be used ONLY for peaceful purposes, always.

    – Is Yahap up to getting that done ?

    – Will INDIA back Lanka with such an idea ?

  40. Lorenzo Says:

    Fran,

What? Those sound like Mahadenamutta solutions.

A standing reserve army is NO SUBSTITUTE for fighter jets.

They each do a different service. SLAF needs jets.

“FREE Birth Control material to any adult”

TROUBLE MAKERS will NOT take it. They want to BREED. They will give it to INNOCENT GOOD PEOPLE FORCIBLY. Then the world will be a worse place.

  41. Ananda-USA Says:

    SA Kumar,

Unlike you, he very carefully read the article I posted on the sad state of SLAF fighter jets, and listed the numbers in a table

That only shows he can read, correctly add and subtract, and make lists.

Nothing else! He had no more inside info than you and I do!

Yes, he is back to making lists …like his fake corruption allegation lists including Namal’s Lambhorgini …as he did demonizing and undermining MR/UPFA in favor of the Yahapalanaya people ahead of the elections.

Now that his fondest desires have been realized with MR/UPFA GOSL ousted and the Yamapalanaya in power, he is coining insulting nicknames, such as “Maru Sira” for Sirisena, for the very Yamapalanaya leaders, he helped to inflict upon us.

Thinking patriots should ask, who gains from the turncoat Lorenzo somersaults and agitation?

Only the EELAMISTS and othet unpatritic minorities gained from the regime change Lorenzo vociferously supported, and only those enemies of Sri Lanka will gain from his current antics trying to creep back into the PATRIOTIC FOLD, so wining maximum confusion in the governance of Sri Lanka.

I will NEVER FORGIVE THIS REPROBATE for what he did, and will NEVER FORGET what he did heling to lead gullible patriots off the cliff to destruction.

There are many others at LankaWeb who conveniently forget his TREACHERY in the interest of good manners, but the survival of one’s Motherland should not be sacrificed on the altar of good manners.

By the way, Patriots should notice that Lorenzo recently returned to LankaWeb accompanied by his sand sung by his fan club of AVATARS …. As I had predicted before he disappeared for a vacation.

Stay tuned for more Hilarious Antics from this Professional EELAMIST AGITATOR and his coterie of avatars hoping to sow more anarchy in Sri Lanka!

  43. Fran Diaz Says:

    Lorenzo,

Lanka’s small supply of fighter jets to fight which country ???

The Way Forward is toward Peace, not more War. World War II saw nearly 100 Million dead – do we want more of the same, or worse next time.

Preparation for War will bring War.
    Preparation for Peace will Peace.

Each person in Lanka must be Loyal to Lanka first. There is no other way.

  44. Lorenzo Says:

    Fran,

Country? We never used fighter jets to fight any country. We used it to PREVENT and DESTROY Tamil terrorists.

Fearing a massive air attack, Tamil Elamists will not take up arms.

Look at Singapore. They have HUNDREDS OF FIGHTER JETS. Has it attacked ANY country? NO! It is part of self defence and PREVENTION of violence.

  45. Fran Diaz Says:

    Lorenzo,

Question : Who is going to allow Tamil terrorism to rise up AGAIN so that fighter jets can ‘destroy’ them ?

The amount of lives, funds, time & energy, reputation, etc., wasted in wars (internal & external), are an exposure of human stupidity.

There are better, more civilised, ways to handle our fears and insecurities. We should put our energies into PREVENTION, and the UN must do the same, if the UN wants to be a respected international organisation.

    Quote :

Einstein said “to do the same experiment and expect a different result, is insanity”.

  46. Ananda-USA Says:

    Dear Fran,

I must reluctantly STRONGLY disagree with you on the need for Sri Lanka to maintain a STRONG DEFENCE with a powerful army, a navy and an air force!

It is called DETERRENCE. The BEST DETERRENCE is the ability to bloody the face of any enemy rash enough to contemplate attaching Sri Lanka and to inflict such losses that even though we may not win, the COST TO THE ENEMY IS TOO HIGH for it to be worth while
The policy should be to make AGGRESSION so unprofitable that they will not risk it.

To that end, Sri Lanka should develop and maintain a highly trained and motivated 300,000 man peacetime army supported by a National Guard in which every adult man and woman citizen is compulsorily trained and ready to serve, a blue water navy capable of protectin our coast, our territorial waters and our marine economic zone, and a small but effective state of the art and always ready air force with fighter-bombers, atack and heavy-lift capable helicopters, and long-rangd surveillance and attack drones.

Who are our enemies you ask? Do you STILL have to ask knowing all that has happened in the last 30 years and is happening to Sri Lanka today?

We have a Tamil Diaspora led by formet terrorists still trying to create an EELAM by force, there are Tamil Nadu political leaders who vow to create a Sovereign state for Sri Lankan Tamils in Sri Lanka as a precursor to in corporation in the Greatet Tamil Nadu, a regional Indian hegemon who has undermined via terrorism, invaded, and dictating Sri Lanka’s governancr, a nation that has fought wars with
nearly everyone of its neighbors, including Sri Lanka.

We have the Western Powers pursuing their containment policy against China wanting to use Sri Lanka as a pawn in their game. The have orchestrated a regime change in Sri Lanka, and are moving to create big embassy complexes and naval.military bases in Sri Lanka replete with large contingents of their armed forces who will be beyond the reach of Sri Lanka Law. These forces will be used against other countries in the region, and even in Sri Lanka to protect and maintain their political puppets in power. Every day naval contingents from these powers are arriving in Sri Lanka to subtly threaten Sri Lanka to conform to their wishes!

We need a strong military DETERRENCE against ALL of these potential enemies, if only to offer a brief defence that will be costly to them in the case of the bigger nations.

Remember that the LTTE was encouraged to wage war on nearly equal terms with the Sri Lankan National Defence forces because of oUR MILITARY WEAKNESS created by the FOOLISH NOTION that we have NO ENEMIES. A powerful defence force is INSURANCE against all such calamities, and I would rather pay the cost of buying such INSURANCE than fight another 30 year war that debilitated our people and destroys our country.

It is TOO LATE to develop such a DETERRENCE after the crisis is at hand. It takes generations of careful fostering to create an efficient and resourceful army proud of its own history and accomplishments having the ESPRIT-DE-CORPS needed to defend and protect a country. That requires instilling pride in the servicemen, the nation’s honor and gratitude for their sacrifices, and their Ted badges of courage earned in battle. Those who spilled their blood for us are the best of us, and we must support them with our love and support at every turn.

Long ago the Roman senator, Cato the Elder declared that “If you desire PEACE, prepare for WAR!”

NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, has change since Cato’s time, for Sri Lanka and for other nations such as the United States.

We must be like Israel and Switzerland, and SPEAK SOFTLY but CARRY A BIG STICK, the biggest stick we can afford to beg, buy or steal!

In short, my dear Fran, you are sadly mistaken; Sri Lanka is surrounded by enemies from near and far, and has a greater need for a strong Defence Force than EVER BEFORE!

In particular, we need to REBUILD our Air Force to a strength greater than it had at the height of the war. Amazing how the stupid Yamapalanaya Government has allowed, by neglect or by design, the airforce to descend to this sad state in a short 18 months!

  47. Nanda Says:

    Fran’s arguments are contradictory.
He argues Sri Lanka is too close to 60 million Tamils in Tamil Nadu, therefore our problems are greater compared to Singapore. If our problems are greater, our defence spending shall be greater than Singapore to protect us from Tamil evil. Singapore’s problems similar, if not worse worse, they are surrounded by MUSLIMS, ZERO kilometres to Malaysia and 20 km to nearest Indonesian island.
We probably had a stronger army during war which was quickly dismantled by MR after war, however, we are 1000 times weaker in defence with Air and Sea. We have no allies.
We must purchase 20 kifrs but at correct price, not 30% going to MY3pala’s brothers pocket through various bank accounts in various people’s names all over the world.

  48. Fran Diaz Says:

    Hi Ananda,

    Appreciate your concerns.

But, so long as we go in for mainly military solutions and not emphasize acting through the Law of the Land, i.e. remove the ILLEGAL 13-A, and Tamil leaders officially REVOKE the Vadukoddai Resolution (1976), then we are headed in the wrong direction.

A local ‘enemy’ comprising of the Lanka Tamil North & Tamil leaders will spell divisions in Lanka for the future too. We have just completed an expensive (lives, funds, reputation, etc) war with the LTTE in 2009.

As for Security through an Army, in addition to our conventional Army, I am for maintaining a system such as done in Switzerland – a local civil citizens Army. That way, the entire population of Lanka is made aware of ground realities and facts, and UNITED in the defense of Lanka, against any external enemy, not an internal one, as the ‘divide & rule’ folk desire.

  49. SA Kumar Says:

Fran’s arguments are contradictory.- Not agreed his arguments for normal people but We are not normal.
Mother Lanka to maintain a STRONG DEFENCE- agreed as a Mother Lankan because When not If Eelam war V to defeat at Mulivaikal .

  50. Fran Diaz Says:

    Nanda,

I do not think I am making contradictory statements.

I have always pointed out the dangers of ILLEGAL MIGRATION from Tamil Nadu as TN has some 20 Million Tamil people of Dalit origin (this is written in their birth certificates).

    (a) It is best that such illegal migration is contained through the Legal System, (part of it now under threat through funding and possible take over of the BASL by USAID !), where illegal migrants are deported to their homeland. Of course, a strong Navy is necessary for Sri Lanka, as for all island nations such as Britain.
Also, as I stated above, there has to be conventional Army, PLUS a civilian army of millions, as in Switzerland.

    (b) The problem in Lanka is mainly Tamil leaders Tamil Separatism to form Tamil Eelam. To stop Tamil Separatism :

    – REMOVE the ILLEGAL 13-A.
    – Tamil leaders must REVOKE the Vadukoddai Resolution (1976) – Eelam through Violence.

  51. Ananda-USA Says:

    Fran,

I agree with you about the citizens national guard backing up a professional core that is ready to do battle at all times. That is in fact what I was advocating.

Every citizen MUST BEAR THE BURDEN ….PERSONALLY …
of defending the nation. That inculcated patriotism and responsibility without allocating that duty to sacrifice to the poorest people in our society. The lack of a personal responsibility for the country’s defence is why the elite and the rich Colombians today are the least patriotic people in our country, and the most susceptible to treachery and selling out to foreigners.

Lastly, the Defence Forces cannot function in a vacuum. They are subject to the will of the people as expressed through the elected government. If the government, though elected, proves to be unpatritic and treacherous, then the people must intervene to oust them with or without the aid of scheduled elections. But, the armed forces must stay out of that ousting; it must be done by the people, of the people, for the people of their own accord.

Whatever the status of politics in the country, the armed forces must be supported and maintained as a nationsl instrument of security and defence against all enemies , external and internal, and kept free of political involvement.

  52. Lorenzo Says:

Singapore has 127 fight jets (F-5, F-15 and F-16) and 17 attack helicopters. All together 144 attack craft.

    1. Singapore had NO WAR. But SL had war.
    2. Singapore does NOT have 75 million Tamilians waiting to invade. SL unfortunately has.
    3. Singapore GDP is $300 billion compared to SL’s $80 billion. SL should have 38 fighter jets and attack helicopters in total to be fair. Nanda’s off the cuff estimation is correct.

Fran alleges “military only”. I NEVER said MILITARY ONLY! But military component is an ESSENTIAL part of PREVENTION of another war. Iraq, Syria and Libya landed in deep trouble because they STOPPED INVESTING in weapons proportionately. SL did the same mistake from 1955 to 1970 and paid a heavy price. SL is doing the same mistake again since 2010.

And we have to STOP using jets for acrobat nonsense to entertain politicians. We lost 2 good Kfir jets in 2011 practicing for this nonsense. These are not SHOW DOGS but WORK HORSES.

SL won peace in 2009 thanks more to jet bombers, MBRLs, attack boats and warships THAN political solutions. Peaceful countries PREVENT war and invasion thanks to jet bombers, MBRLs, attack boats and warships THAN political solution nonsense.

Having our defences ready doesn’t mean we go looking for war. It means we PREVENT war from happening.
“itha onda gaani emathaama budding”. But if itha onda gaani knows KARATE, no loser will mess with her.

  53. Fran Diaz Says:

    Ananda,

    Agree with all you say.

    ——–

    Lorenzo,

Rather than depend on warfare, it is best to first have legal systems in place, to prevent wars.
Rather than depend on warfare, it is best to have the armed forces PLUS a civilian army (as in Switzerland), educated and savvy about ground realities that a country such as Lanka faces, to prevent civil wars and generate feelings of security within the country.

The earlier Civil wars happened in both the South & the North in Lanka because mostly due to near 500 yrs of Colonial rule plus Cold War acts, and Tamil Caste wars.

Now we have to bring the country together for mutual survival.

The time of warfare and divisions must hopefully be left behind from now on. All that divides the Nation politically through externally imposed laws such as the 13-A, and internal fear mongering through misleading acts such as through the V’koddai Resolution (1976), must be removed & revoked officially.

And this is just Phase I toward a just Peace in Lanka.
Much more to be done ….

    Hope you agree.

  54. Lorenzo Says:

    Fran,

    Who said warfare?

Have a strong military is NOT warfare. It is the ability to PREVENT. Look at Singapore.

Legal mechanisms are good but they ALONE cannot PREVENT war. You need a STRONG MILITARY to DETER any potential troublemaker. This is why ALL PEACEFUL countries invest heavily on defence.

So now you agree that PEACE TALKS not army attacks on Rathupaswala should have been better?
Or is it that when the victims are Singhalese, killing is OK but when the victims are Tamils killing is not OK?

  55. Nanda Says:

    Lorenzo,
You said,”Singapore does NOT have 75 million Tamilians waiting to invade. SL unfortunately has.”

Singapore has 350 million Muslims to invade. Bigger problem than us. Yes he has 127 jets instead.

But Singapore Chinese leaders do not go to Mecca to show they are nice people. LKY has rules to stop howling early in the mornings.

  56. Fran Diaz Says:

    Lorenzo,

Of course we want the Armed Forces of Lanka, comprising mostly of the Army & Navy. A Civilian Army as in Switzerland is also needed.

Legal mechanisms also needed as part of the Preventive Care.

Rathupaswela was another ploy to have another trumped up 1983 type Rioting session. The Police could not contain the rioters as they were brought in lorry loads from other areas as darkness fell. That is why the Army was called in. The riots had to be contained quickly. We have been through all this before – why are you bringing it up again ?

Rathupaswela water contamination was quite possibly pre-arranged too. A handful of a contaminent in wells is enough to cause algal bloom. Same thing happened in the 1983 Riots – trumped up.

Singapore is not next door to Tamil Nadu, INDIA – that is a real plus.

Nothing more to say – bi bi.
