Annan: Russia, West agree on transition government for Syria
The Syrian crisis is to be resolved by a transition government consisting of the current authorities and opposition leaders. RCMP arrest another man in smuggling case
VANCOUVER – The RCMP says it has arrested a man charged over the smuggling of 492 Tamil migrants into Canada. Resettlement reaches final stage
The resettlement programme launched by the government with the end of the humanitarian mission in the Northern and Eastern Provinces is at its final stage. Japan pushes for law to secure Iranian oil supply
Japan’s lower house passed a bill on Friday to provide government guarantees to tankers carrying Iranian crude, which is to replace commercial insurance by Europeans after the EU’s oil sanctions kick in. Foreign holdings of US debt hit record high
Foreign demand for U.S. Treasury securities rose to a record high in April. China, the largest buyer of Treasury debt, increased its holdings slightly after trimming them for two straight months. The Treasury Department said Friday that total foreign holdings rose 0.4 percent to $5.16 trillion. It was the fourth consecutive monthly increase. Demand for U.S. debt is rising largely because investors are worried about Europe's worsening debt crisis. Documents detail serious accusations against Secret Service agents since 2004
The federal government released details Friday of allegations against the Secret Service for roughly the past eight years – ranging from more reports about employees involved with prostitutes to a bizarre claim that an agent implanted a chip in a victim’s brain. The 229-page report by the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general also included reports of Secret Service agents involved in leaking sensitive information, publishing pornography, sexual assault, illegal wiretaps, improper use of weapons and drunken behavior. Indian runner Pinki Pramanik, who claimed gold medal at the 2008 Asian Games women’s 4x400 meters relay, has been arrested following rape claims and accusations that she is actually male. Increasing bloodshed leads to suspension of UN observer mission in Syria
UN observers in Syria have suspended their patrols and activities. Rajat Gupta convicted of insider trading for tipping Rajaratnam
June 15 (Bloomberg) -- Rajat Gupta, who reached the pinnacle of corporate America as managing partner of McKinsey & Co. and as a director at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co., was convicted by a federal jury of leaking inside information to hedge-fund manager Raj Rajaratnam. Gupta, 63, was found guilty of securities fraud and conspiracy by a federal jury in Manhattan today in its second day of deliberations.
