Merge Sinhala Majority Villages in the East with Nearby Provinces Without Using them as Political Pawns
Dilrook Kannangara
Since 2009 ethnic Sinhalas in the East have been totally neglected. Politicians who entered parliament from the East by exploiting the miseries of ethnic Sinhalas there have since settled comfortably in Colombo. Eastern Sinhalas have become mere political pawns used at elections and dumped thereafter. Their suffering must be maintained in order to win their votes for the SLPP. If they stop suffering, racism cannot be sold to them during election time. This is why they are condemned to suffer by all political parties. I have suggested a workable, simple and effective solution to... -Full Story-

A world at crossroads: Seeking peace in times of turmoil
by A. Abdul Aziz
As the world immerses itself in festive celebrations, a stark and harrowing contrast unfolds in the Holy Land. This scene of strife is not isolated; as we witness the turmoil in Ukraine, where the echoes of war reverberate, and the protracted suffering in Yemen, it becomes clear that the shadows of conflict are cast wide across our world. While the West bedecks its streets with lights and nativity scenes, reimagining... -Full Story-

Colombo, December 26 (Daily Mirror): Sri Lanka’s relationship with Israel has been unique. In the past 75 years as an independent nation, Sri Lanka has recognized, derecognized and again recognised Israel, guided by ever-changing ideological, geopolitical and domestic factors.   But in contrast to Sri Lanka, Israel has been consistent: It has always wanted good relations with Sri Lanka and has helped Sri Lanka whenever its help was sought, irrespective of the official status of the relationship. Interestingly, war has been one of the determining factors in the relationship. War... -Full Story-

China’s Colombo port logistic centre gets generous tax relief
By Namini Wijedasa/Sunday Times
Colombo, December 24: President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as Investment Promotion Minister, on Friday gazetted the initiative under the 2008 Strategic Development Projects Act (SDPA), stating that the aim was to turn the Colombo Port into a logistics hub for South Asia. I2U2: The Israel-India-U.S. Triangle - The Human Toll of the new QUAD in the Western Indian Ocean Will Be Incalculable
By Priti Gulati Cox and Stan Cox
In 1981, India’s post office issued a stamp showing the flags of India and occupied Palestine flying side by side above the phrase “Solidarity with the Palestinian people.” That now seems like ancient history. Today, Hindu nationalists are flying the flags of India and Israel side by side as a demonstration of their support for that country’s catastrophic war on Gaza. It’s a match made in heaven (or do we mean hell?), because the two nations have similar “problems” they’re trying to “solve.” Israel has long been engaged in... -Full Story-

Since identifying chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) in Sri Lanka in the mid-1990s, little progress has been made in aetiology and prevention. Despite the numerous hypotheses and conjectures—with more than 35—none have been thoroughly studied or substantiated as the definitive cause of CKDu. The development of CKDu necessitates simultaneous exposure to various factors and conditions over an extended period. Hence, it is also called chronic kidney disease of multifactorial origin (CKDmfo). A recent newspaper article suggested that... -Full Story-
