THE ARMED FORCES AFTER EELAM WAR IV
During the Eelam war, the UNP government decided to weaken the army by sending troops abroad. UK’s General Rose was invited to study the armed forces and advise on sending Sri Lanka troops for UN assignments abroad (2002). The service commanders had no say in the matter. In 2004, Sri Lanka sent troops to the UN peace keeping forces in Haiti. These troops were not recalled when Eelam war IV started. They continued in Haiti till the UN project ended in 2015. Disciplinary action against police personnel for assaulting female protestors
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has instructed the DIG of North Central province to take disciplinary action against the police personnel who assaulted females at a temple in Eppawala. Most of us were under the impression that the politicians who rush to the Mahanayakas on the slightest provocation, would have consulted them before declaring Vesak in April. SS Sagaing: WW2 shipwreck refloated by Sri Lanka navy
A British passenger ship that sank after it was bombed in a Japanese air strike in World War Two has been raised off the Sri Lanka coast after 75 years. A friend in Melbourne sent me a stimulating email last week, about a novel experience inside the SriLankan Airlines, single aisle Airbus 320, Karachi-Colombo Flight (UL184).
