Devaluation
The question before policy makers today is whether to seek a bail out from IMF and face a certain devaluation of the rupee. It is like the proverbial curate's egg. Sri Lanka has had several devaluations of the rupee. I am not aware whether a proper evaluation of the impact of devaluation on exports and the economy has been done. Daily Covid-19 cases count at 1,281 today and death toll sees uptick with 31 more victims
The Health Ministry says that another 1,281 persons have tested positive for Covid-19 today, as the daily count of new cases continues to rise in the country. This brings the tally of Covid-19 cases registered in the country thus far to 640,578. According to official figures, 607,583 positive cases have recovered. Four and a half hour power cuts tomorrow
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has approved the request made by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for rotational load shedding tomorrow (Feb. 23), due to the shortage of fuel supplies. Colombo, February 14: A survey conducted by the Colombo-based Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA) in September-October 2021, found that while the majority of Sri Lankans were wedded to the principle of elections, they were also hankering for “a strong leader who is not inconvenienced by elections.” An overwhelming majority (92.2%) were in support elections as a way of choosing the rulers. Sri Lanka to import 100,000 tonnes of rice from Myanmar
COLOMBO (XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Trade said yesterday it decided to import 100,000 tonnes of white rice from Myanmar to control the rising price of rice in local markets. Sri Lanka sees 26 new Covid-19 deaths
The Director-General of Health Services has confirmed 26 new coronavirus-related fatalities for February 06, increasing the death toll in the country due to the virus to 15,621. Fully vaccination compulsory from April 30, Gazette issued
While issuing an extraordinary gazette notification the Health Ministry announced that people should not enter public places without having proof of being fully vaccinated against the Coronavirus from April 30. The gazette notification was issued by Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. The gazette mentioned 'fully vaccinated' as a relevant person has obtained the required doses of the relevant vaccination as specified by the Health Services Director-General. Daily cases of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka hit 1,287 today and records 28 new coronavirus-related deaths
The Ministry of Health says that another 1,287 persons have tested positive for the novel coronavirus today (February 05).
