Returnee from Bangladesh adds to COVID-19 case count
Another foreign arrival testing positive for the coronavirus infection has taken the tally of virus-positive cases in Sri Lanka to 2,037. The latest case is a recent returnee from Bangladesh, according to the Health Ministry. With the new, four individuals have been detected to have contracted the virus, so far today (28). COVID-19 cases tally hits 2,033 as arrivals from Bangladesh test positive
The Ministry of Health has confirmed that 19 more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 as of 2.30 pm today (27). The latest coronavirus infections have moved the tally to 2,033. The Department of Government Information said all of these patients are arrivals from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 recoveries confirmed in Sri Lanka increased to 1,639 earlier today as 20 patients were discharged from hospitals. Commission to probe irregularities in state banks during Good Governance govt. – PM
A commission will be appointed to look into the financial misconducts and irregularities in the loans provided by state banks during the government of Good Governance, says Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Defence Secretary Major General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne has reiterated that punitive actions would be initiated without delay against prison, law enforcement and other officials, who were found to have abused official powers through corrupt practices, abetting and collaborating with underworld criminals and drug traffickers. Bayer Settles Glyphosate Cancer Lawsuit for $10.9 Billion
Bayer-Monsanto have announced that the company will make a total payment of $10.1 billion to $10.9 billion (€9.1 billion to €9.8 billion) to settle the non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Roundup litigation in the U.S.. Roundup is the most sold glyphosate-based herbicide in the world. Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 cases cross 2,000 mark
With three new COVID-19 positive cases being reported, the tally of confirmed cases in Sri Lanka crossed the 2,000 mark on Wednesday evening. Three more navy personnel from the Iyakachchi quarantine center have tested positive for Coronavirus. This brings the total number of confirmed patients thus far in the country to 2,001. ‘The Finance’ depositors to receive compensation up to Rs. 600,000
The government has decided to pay compensation up to Rs. 600,000 to all insured depositors of The Finance Company PLC (TFC) which is to be liquidated. Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunawardena stated this during the media briefing to announce Cabinet decisions today (04). Four new Covid-19 cases brings total to 1,653
Four new cases of Coronavirus have been identified increasing the total number of confirmed cases reported in the country to 1,653. Meanwhile the number of new cases reported within today (02) has reached 10. This includes a total of 07 navy personnel from Iranamadu, Kalpitiya and Mulankavil quarantine centres. Ballot paper printing commences; EC to meet tomorrow
Printing of ballot papers for the General Election 2020 was commenced from today (02), the Government Printer, Gangani Kalpana Liyanage said. Over 17 million ballot papers are due to be printed for the upcoming election. Sri Lanka confirms 11th COVID-19 death
Sri Lanka has reported the 11th death from the COVID-19 infection, the Ministry of Health confirmed a short while ago. The deceased is said to be a 45-year-old male who had arrived in the country from Kuwait. Another four individuals have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the Ministry of Health confirmed a short while ago. The latest cases have been found among those who had returned from Bangladesh, according to the Department of Government Information.
